Name: Bittersweet Symphony
Gender: Stallion
Age: 10 years
Breed: Gypsy Vanner x American Paint
Height: 16.1 hands
Colour: Sorrel Sabino Tobiano Overo
Markings: Badger Face, Sabino, Tobiano and Overo Paint Markings
Personality: (Can be added to or subtracted from) Bittersweet Symphony, or Sym as he calls himself, is a very gentle stallion. He is very loyal and protective of anyone he gets close to, though that takes a little while as he's also a bit untrusting and weary of anyone that does try to get close to him, it's a hold over from his childhood. Sym also tries to avoid any confrontation or conflict as he sees no purpose in trying to prove oneself better than anyone else. In Sym's eyes, everyone is an equal. Everyone deserves forgiveness. He's a rather gentlemanly beast which is surprising with his physical affliction and the events of his past. Sym loves everyone from the biggest stallion to the most delicate and playful of foals. He loves everyone equally so if he ever does settle down, it will be with multiple lovers as he is bisexual and polygamous. He does want to settle down, but it is hard for him to let anyone in and trust anyone anymore. He does have one weakness though and that is any being that is champagne (or any dilution of such colour) as the one being he really could trust when he was younger was of such colouration. All in all, Bittersweet Symphony is protective, loyal and quite playful if one can get in close enough to him.
History: (Can be added to or subtracted from) Bittersweet Symphony was born to a sorrel sabino tovero American Paint Stallion and a sorrel sabino Gypsy Vanner slave mare. Though his childhood was not all fun and games. His name alone stands testament to that. His dam, Bittersweet Violet was a slave to his sire, Bloodlance whom ruled his herd with an iron hoof. You see, Bloodlance had a thing for larger mares and a thing for bossing everyone else around and on his own sire's death, Bloodlance fought all his own family to take possession of the herd once ruled by his sire Blight, not that anyone really wanted to fight him for it, most of his family ran on Blight's death, save for his messed up brother Wrath, but even Wrath did not want to fight with Bloodlance he was pure evil. Biterswet Violet on the other hand, had been a gift to Blight, just before his death and Bloodlance laid claim to her virginity immediately, as his sire had not had the chance to take it from her yet on receiving her as a maiden of only a year and a half old. For her first year and a half of being there, no one touched Bittersweet Violet. Bittersweet Symphony was going to be the only foal she ever had though neither Violet or Blood knew that at the time. When Bittersweet Violet was just turned three years old, Blood raped her, violently and left her shaking and bleeding afterward and he shoved her into a cell.
While in the cell, each day Bittersweet Violet was not fed, she only received water, nor was she attended to to help with the worst of her bleeding. Without the food, or the help healing, Bittersweet Violet began wasting away, by the time her pregnancy was noticeable, she was very thin. This would be unfortunate with the child's birth, for when his time came to greet the world, as he exited her safety, he tore her terribly and though she had some strength after, in that dark hole of a cell, Violet had strength enough to arise from the hard stone floor and clean the colt and feed him, and she even managed to name him, 'You are like a beautiful Symphony to me my love,' she had said as the colt began to nurse, 'but you are a Bittersweet Symphony.' For she knew that upon his birth, she was not much longer for the world. A week after Sym's birth, the poor colt watched as the light faded from his dam's eyes in their dim little hole in the mountain. 'I will make you proud one day momma.' Sym said as she gave him a small, weak smile and then, Sym had to strain in the dim cell, to see her lips move and try to determine what she had said as he had in fact been born deaf in his left ear and could only hear partially in his right ear. 'I know you will my Symphony.' She told him on her last breath. Sym fought back tears as he lay beside his dam's battered thin body. Then when he started conversing with the one eyed soldier more after her passing, Sym began to read lips more easily as his partial deafness grew closer to full deafness.
His soft cries did not go unnoticed. For one of the ones guarding his dam's cell, had been keeping a close eye on the Gypsy Vanner mare, as he felt deeply for her. When she passed away the stallion outside the cell stopped his watch and approached the gate and rattled the gate softly, and Sym moved cautiously forward toward the dim shadow outside. 'Poor soldier, do not be ashamed to shed tears for the ones you loved Bittersweet Symphony.' With a hiccup, and a stalling of his own tears, Sym noted the tears in the older stallion's eyes. As Sym approached the gate a little closer, and saw the one eyed soldier outside of it, Sym offered him a small smile through the silent tears still falling down his badger marked face. 'I am not. It seems you are not either.' Sym said and the one eyed stallion chuckled lightly. 'Do not worry young one, I will get you out of here, even if it means my own death for it.' Sym smiled at the older stallion's silent lyrics and looked at the old one eyed stallion again. 'I will wait.' Sym said softly as he stepped back into the shadows of his cell and lay back down beside his dead dam and cried himself to sleep. A few days later a soft shadow outside caught his attention as it approached the gate. 'Are you awake Sym?' The one eyed soldier had asked and Sym read them as he rose and moved toward the small pool of light. In the shadow of the light, was the one eyed soldier. 'Have you finished?' A silent, soft chuckle more lyrics to read, 'Just about. I'm gonna release you, I'm sure it's beginning to burn your nose staying in there.' Sym nodded a little. It wasn't awful yet, but it was getting there.
Soon after, the one eyed stallion, opened the gate of the cell and Sym stepped into the blinding light. As he stood in the freedom he looked around as he settled his gaze on the one eye stallion again as he spoke once more to Sym, 'I'm gonna put you in a new cell, but this one has a escape in the darkest part of the hole.' Old One Eye told him and Sym gladly followed the soldier. Upon reaching his new cell, Sym stepped in and turned to look back at the soldier. 'And my father?' Old One Eye chuckled as he spoke 'He is far too busy causing havoc and terror within the herd to worry over a child he never really planned upon.' At Old One Eye's urging, Sym made his way to the back of his cell and allowed his good pale ice blue orb to adjust to the darkness. When he could see in the darkness, Sym searched for the escape at the back. It took him a while but eventually Sym found a loose rock and thought he may have found it. Approaching the gate again and his guard, Sym spoke to Old One Eye. 'Will we ever meet again One Eye?' The old stallion smiled, 'I will neither say yes nor will I say no, just pray and hope that we will and we will see what fate has decided for us.' One Eye told Sym and the painted colt smiled.
'Then I will wait and see.' Sym said and made his way back to the escape he had found. Pushing and nudging the rock softly, Sym eventually managed to get the rock far enough to one side to start on another one that had been revealed. It took him a few more hours of softly pushing and nudging but the exit was then, just big enough for a young horse to crawl through to freedom. Sym did just that. As he crawled through the tunnel on the other side of the cell, he looked around and noted that it was just now after moonrise. 'Bittersweet Symphony?' The lyrics startled him briefly, 'I apologize young one. Old One Eye told me you'd be getting out tonight.' This being knew One Eye? That drew Sym's curiosity and he made his way into the silver light of the moon. There before him was a being maybe a year and a half or two and dyed a classic champagne and she was beautiful under the glow of the moonlight.
'I am Nightlily, but you may call me Lily. Old One Eye helped me escape too.' Sym smiled as he looked toward the mare, Lily again. 'He rescued you too? Did my sire end up abusing and eventually murdering your dam as well?' Sym asked softly as Lily started away from the tunnel and toward the woods a bit farther up the hill that Sym's good eye had just noticed. 'He did not no. I was a gift to his brother Wrath, but Wrath didn't want a mare, he likes the boys instead. So, Ol' One Eye, asked to be posted as my guard and quietly, we managed to make the escape route in the cell that you just took.' Sym was intrigued. Just how old was One Eye? How did he manage to save not only Lily but him as well, and who knew how many other foals before either one of them? How had he not been murdered yet? 'Lily? Did Ol' One Eye ever come after you once you were free, before telling you of my escape tonight?' Lily gave a small sigh. 'No, but not for lack of trying. Bloodlance and Wrath both always seemed to find something else to keep him busy. Some new slave or other, or some new training task or the like.'
The more Sym and Lily conversed on Ol' One Eye, the more at ease and happy Sym became. With Lily's aid, Sym finally managed to learn to properly read lips. Nightlily was the first being that Sym grew to trust. He wanted to make sure while he and she lived in the wilds outside of Bloodlance's herd that they remained one hundred percent safe. When Sym turned three and Lily was five, his deafness was fully complete and his lip reading was perfected, he and Lily ended up being forced apart by storms and wildfires. Sym was never able to make any other friends aside from Nightlily. He tried, but every other being he ran into, attacked him, never tried to gain his trust or anything. So he continued to wander, alone through the world until he finally found his way to this place to try once more to make more friends or run into Nightlily or Ol' One Eye again, but only time can tell if this Bittersweet Symphony will have a new symphony to sing.
