Round 2
Undead Legion (@minaethiel ) vs Rianne (Sunfrost ) It has been approximately a day after the first round of battles were completed. The contestants were able to rest overnight, however, they are now feeling the extent of the injuries they received as they awake the next morning. The storm that had threatened the territory yesterday had held off, but today, it rages. Despite it being well into the daytime when the battles take place, the clouds are dark, dimming the earth below. Snow is falling forcefully, beginning to gather upon the ground. Today, all the battles will take place in the same vicinity - in the hilly plains to the south of the Colosseum. With the different sparring matches taking place so close to one another, not only will each individual competitor need to keep an eye on their own specific opponents, but other equines nearby as well.
Please remember that this post serves as the first post of the battle. It is taken as though both your characters are now present, and your following posts will begin the fighting (unlike regular battles where one equine enters and has to wait for the other to arrive). All battles are fought with the rules 3 attacks, 1 dodge, 3 days to reply. There will be no extensions given out, no exception. As these are meant to be shorter, quicker battles, the maximum word count is 800 words. *If the second poster finishes the thread with an attack, the first poster may post OOC to describe the results of said attack prior to judging (still needs to follow the three day rule).
Please ensure you utilize the battle for just like regular battles. Sunfrost , you were drawn to post first. You have 3 days from this point to make your first post. Let the battles begin!

Rianne wondered if she would ever get over the euphoria currently filling her to the brim, dosed with a light smattering of self-satisfaction. The bay mare ached from the bite wound on her neck and the bruising along the right side of her body, but she had never felt so satisfied. Peri had fallen to her hooves, and she would lord this over him forever. She would keenly follow his own progress through the tournament even as she paid attention to her own battles, the better to brag should he lose again. He had definitely hated being her lesser, but Rianne would be happy to face him in a rematch should Tricolor Treat so boldly ask for one. And speaking of rematches….today, the Dark mare was facing Undead Legion in the second round of the tournament. Rianne had a history with Legion. She had run into him one day on the battlefield, where she had been trumpeting for some horse to face her. Only Legion had answered the call, and he had proved to be a skilled opponent. The stakes then had been non-existent – they were just two horses wanting to take chunks out of each other. Fate must have approved, for here they were again, facing off in the Gladiator Tournament.
The fifteen hand high mare knew Legion was well-trained and a worthwhile opponent. He would’ve shamed the name of Helkaer if not, after all. Familiarity with him did not stop her from raking her bronze eyes over his form, smirking as she did so. Legion, like herself, had not come out unscathed from his first bout. He had a chunk of flesh torn from the left side of his neck that was proving to be a tempting target. Rianne couldn’t tell what his other injuries were at present, but she was looking forward to finding out. The anticipation and adrenaline singing through her blood almost made her forget about the aching of her right side from one of stupid Tricolor Treat’s attacks. The clouds painted the battlefield in a darker shade – the better to hide the blood she intended to take from Legion’s little Helkaer hide. The snow was not helping with staying loose and battle-ready, threatening to freeze her muscles and make every movement painful, but Rianne gloried in it. The tournament made her feel more alive than she had for many months. The injuries and aching muscles were worth it.
It seemed their match would be occurring close to the others, and on a more hilly area of the battlefield. Rianne was used to hills from living in Ittudale, and knew how best to move her lithe frame among them without losing her footing. Legion, however, was very agile, and she would be on the lookout for his teeth and hooves throughout this match. The proximity of the other matches would prove to be distracting if she let it. They would have to ensure they did not interfere with other matches even as they fought their own. Rianne welcomed the challenge, wondering who the mastermind organizing this whole tournament was. They had certainly thought through how to make each round as dramatic, if not more so, than the last.
Finally, all battles were called to start, and she sneered at Legion across the patch of ground they occupied to begin the ‘pleasantries’ and the match. Come to play again, little Helkaer? Didn’t get enough last time? She didn’t give him much time to respond, going from a standstill to being in motion within a heartbeat, lithe frame speedily closing the distance between them. Her goal was to get within striking distance of the Helkaer stallion and strike with her teeth, head snaking towards where flesh had been ripped out of the left side of his neck. Rianne would aim to sink her teeth into his neck, probably right under or on his existing wound, and rip to the side. The motion would theoretically reopen any scabs and increase the size of the wound. Let him try to fight while bleeding to death before her. She would enjoy watching that happen as she slowly wore him down with attack upon attack. Even if he dodged, Rianne was content to believe they would be able to fight in earnest, staying within striking distance of each other. She looked forward to seeing who the winner of this would be. Their last match had been inconclusive. This one would not be.
@minaethiel - so excited, good luck!! Name: Rianne Breed: Akhal Teke Age: 9 Gender: Mare Height: 15hh Alliance: Dark Health: 85% - Long, medium-deep bite wound on neck; it will bleed and will take a few weeks to heal, but does not hinder movement, breathing, or functionality - Light to moderate bruising along right side of body. Given the day rest from the previous fight, Rianne now feels the bruising sharply, but it does not hinder movement or functionality
Word Count: 741 1/3 Attacks Used 1) Rianne is closing the distance between him and, once within striking distance, reaching out with her head and teeth to try and bite Legion’s existing neck wound. If her teeth meet flesh, she intends to rip sideways to reopen the wound and enlarge it.

God damn was he tired. The blow Danika had dealt to his head had provided Legion with a raging headache that hadn’t abated by nightfall. It had actually kept him up all night, resulting in a bleary-eyed arrival to the hills for a fight. Snow drifted down in large flakes that had him scowl in further irritation. He’d need to watch his footing while he fought so he wouldn’t slip. Slipping against his next opponent would spell disaster. Rianne. Their previous meeting had ended in a draw, and now was as good of a time as any for a rematch. The weather seemed to agree. Above their heads, only the faintest of light cut through the clouds and snow to allow them to see. Annoyingly enough, the latter seemed content not to melt, instead sticking to the ground and creating a larger slipping hazard. Even his mane wasn’t safe from them, the flakes sticking to the strands and threatening to turn his ombre mane completely white. Still, his blood was burning. His fight with Danika had been a taste of this tournament. Rianne? Well, she’d lit his fighting fury like a goddamned lightning strike to a tree when they’d met the first time. This chance for a rematch just gave him an excuse to have even more fun. She hadn’t changed a bit since he’d last seen her. She was still full of pep and fury that was just begging to be crushed. He had to admit though, she was rather entertaining, despite being an outsider. There weren’t many that he’d gone toe to toe with outside of the Helkaer, and that she had stood against him had (though he’d be damned before he told her this) impressed him.
It wasn’t going to matter much when he won, but eh, that was her problem to deal with.
Rianne had an ego from what he’d seen so far. It took one to know one, he supposed, and it was because of that fact that he planned on being cautious. There was a hell of a lot he’d do to come out on top, and he refused to think any less of the bay mare in front of him. Further complicating matters was the fact that their fellow gladiators were engaged relatively close around them. But perhaps that could be a useful advantage as well. Getting up in the business of the other gladiators would complicate the fight, sure, but it would make it equally difficult for Rianne to maneuver. Legion, on the other hand, figured he could handle it. Especially because he was tall enough that he could shove past a good chunk of competitors thanks to his height. Ok, maybe he couldn’t bowl over the giant fighting Danika, but most of the others he was sure he could deal with. Come to play again, little Helkaer? Didn’t get enough last time? The remark was begging for a witty comeback, but this time Rianne clearly wasn’t playing around as she darted towards him. A grin crossed Legion’s face as adrenalin shot through his system. Now this was somebody who was going to give him a fight he deserved. She clearly wasn’t going to be adverse to playing dirty either as he noted where she was aiming, and like with Danika, he lunged to meet her attack. Teeth scraped along his neck, and fire laced through his body as Rianne’s jaw ripped across flesh that had barely begun to heal. A defiant snarl ripped through him. I don’t think you learned enough of a lesson last time we danced! the stallion spat back, equal parts infuriated and exhilarated. Legion lunged forward to block where Rianne had come from, his jaws snapping towards her rump to try and take out his own chunk of flesh, while simultaneously trying to herd her towards the other fighters. Corner and destroy, that was going to be his ultimate goal, and he was looking forward to seeing her fight against him tooth and nail.
Name: Undead Legion Breed: Standardbred Age: Four Years Old Gender: Stallion Height: 16.2hh Alliance: Dark Health: 65% (docked an extra 5% from prior fight due to sleep deprivation from his concussion keeping him up, plus 5% more from Rianne’s attack)

Rianne’s blood sang in anticipation of how Legion would react to her first strike. She had attacked him first last time as well, taunting him to attack her by leaving the high ground. Then, he had proved resistant to her taunts, showing some tactical knowledge within his brain – knowledge that she could respect. She had been forced to ascend and attack him from the low ground, and that had given him an initial advantage. Not that it had mattered much in the end – their match had still ended in a draw. Within striking distance of her target, Rianne reached out, her teeth scraping along his neck and finding some purchase in their intended target – the old, barely scabbed over wound that was evidence of his last match, located on the left side of his neck. Legion’s blood filled her mouth as she bit down, teeth almost clacking together as she ended up with a half-grip on his neck. Her motion had been upset by his sudden lunge to meet her attack. Why was he running headfirst into her? Had he no sense?
The Helkaer snarled, something Rianne barely heard given she was far more in favor of paying attention to her teeth buried in whatever they could reach of his neck. I don’t think you learned enough of a lesson last time we danced! Rianne would have snarled back and fought to bite a chunk off the edge of Legion’s nose at that comment. Let him try to talk without a nose and mouth to use. He thought to match her wit? As if he would be so skilled! As it was, her priority was clearly in her attack – and in reacting to Legion’s sudden lunge towards her rump. Her teeth were still buried in the left side of Legion’s neck, not quite firm given Legion’s own movements. She was therefore on his left side, meaning Legion was on her left, too. That meant she would have to use the muscles and agility of her right side to dodge to the right as Legion made to take a chunk of flesh out of the left side of her rump, teeth snapping towards her. Unfortunately, the right side of her body was also where Peri had bruised her badly the day before. The tightness and pain there made her slow to react, and she felt Legion’s teeth scrape her rump and find some purchase as she tried to pivot her hind legs away, swinging them further to her right. It felt like Legion had indeed managed to take some flesh out of her rump. She had not dodged fast enough, and that infuriated her. In addition, her bruises seethed in sudden pain, making themselves known and an encumbrance if she let it. She would not let it.
Rianne had let go of Legion’s neck while he had lunged and bitten her rump, and therefore had her mouth unoccupied enough to snarl her fury in his general direction, his head somewhere around the back and on her left side. She didn’t want some horse’s bite marks on her rump! It was practically like claiming ownership! Furious, the mare suddenly swung her hind legs in the direction from which she had initially tried to dodge his first attack, hoping to hit Legion’s head if it had remained low with the intention of biting her again. That wasn’t her ultimate intention, though, as then she bucked. Hitting him along the way would be a bonus; hitting him with her hind legs now would hopefully knock him flat on his back due to the ringing it would produce in his head. Let him try to bite and claim her! He had no idea what he was getting into.
@minaethiel Name: Rianne Breed: Akhal Teke Age: 9 Gender: Mare Height: 15hh Alliance: Dark Health: 78% - Long, medium-deep bite wound on neck; it will bleed and will take a few weeks to heal, but does not hinder movement, breathing, or functionality - Light to moderate bruising along right side of body. Given the day rest from the previous fight, Rianne now feels the bruising sharply, and as the fight continues the bruising may begin to affect her movements; extra 2% docked to reflect effort spent trying to use muscles of right side to unsuccessfully escape Legion’s first attack - Shallow-to-moderate depth bite mark on left side of rump. It is bleeding freely, but is unlikely to scar or take a long time to heal
Word Count: 622 2/3 Attacks Used 1) Rianne closed the distance between her and Legion and bit Legion’s existing neck wound on the left side of his body, successfully managing to reopen the wound. She wasn’t able to fully gain purchase in his neck given Legion’s movement. 2) Rianne is swinging her hind legs back in the direction of where she thinks Legion’s head is, intending to potentially hit him with her injured rump if his head remains low. She is then bucking with the intention of either re-hitting his head (if it remained low near her rump) or scoring an initial hit on his head (if it had been lifted).

Melees were just the kind of thing Legion craved. An opponent that gave as good as they got made it better. Winning the entire battle despite a skilled opponent? It fed Legion's ego like nothing else could. He couldn't claim that Danika had been anything more than a warm up. Rianne was the first real deal of this tournament, and Legion was living for the ferocity the both of them were demonstrating. While Danika had seen fit to taunt him with petty jabs, Rianne did her talking with actions. Ripping free of her teeth left a new, longer wound along his neck, but in his mind it was completely worth it. Her rage-filled noise as he snapped at her rump brought a smirk to his face. The feeling of his teeth tearing into her shot adrenalin through his system. She had to have been so smug when she drew first blood, but Legion was more than happy to play the long game. If he gave her a little hope of victory only to crush it later, then it would make his own triumph that much sweeter. Perhaps it was odd to display such patience during a bloodbath, but Legion firmly believed that it added a special flair to any fight.
This one was no different, and Legion was prepared for Rianne’s retaliation. The tensing of her muscles was the first and only hint the ebony Helkaer needed to shove himself to the right as far as possible. Thankfully, the quick maneuver kept him from eating more rump or hooves as he felt the air displaced by her legs hit his face. Damn, that was close. Another good knock like that would have put me down. Maybe for good. Legion’s head was already pounding thanks to that blow from Danika. Taking another one from Rianne probably would have ruined him for the rest of the tournament. Much as he wanted to prove himself, Legion wasn't dumb enough to completely break himself in 'friendly matches.' if he was going to break himself it was going to be over something worth it. But that didn't mean he had to hold back here either. Content at having dodged her attack, Legion rushed forward to attempt to slam his body against hers, hoping his greater size and strength would either bowl her over or throw her into the fighters closest to them. It was about time the tournament had a little chaos injected into it.
Whoever had the idea to have all of them so close together was a true connoisseur, and Legion intended to make use of it.

Failure! Rianne snarled as only air met her hind legs, smacking into nothing as Legion, damn him, managed to dodge her attack. Had she paused too long before bucking? Or was Legion truly just that experienced and had seen her attack coming based on how her muscles had twitched beforehand? You could have all the experience in the world but be unable to mask that. The fact that he had dodged infuriated her. She was thirsty for retaliation. Buried under it all, however, was a grudging respect for this opponent. Peri had proved to be fun to face; Legion lit a fury in her blood that came from facing a truly skilled and experienced opponent. Not many horses would have been able to get out of the way of a sudden attack like that. It was especially frustrating given it could have been the kind of debilitating attack that would have handed her this match.
It was also possible that she was giving herself entirely too much credit in expecting that her blows would land, but she refused to feel any guilt whatsoever over that. As far as she was concerned, she had every right to believe that her fighting skills were as good as she claimed. And even as the snow around them made the ground underfoot slippery and visibility low, Rianne still believed in her ability to win this fight. Let the snow trip up the less agile horses among them; Rianne would enjoy watching them fall over and injure themselves. She would especially love if Legion were to slip and fall, the better to crush him with her hooves. Speaking of, figuring out where to hit him next would be difficult if she didn’t move.
Rianne began to turn, pivoting on her left leg to protect her bruised right side in case Legion tried anything in the meantime. She wanted to be able to see Legion clearly as she plotted next how best to rip him apart. Unfortunately, Legion appeared to have taken an opportunity to rush her as she was turning, just as she had feared. Light on her feet as she was while turning, Legion had no issues at all as he bowled into her. The snow did not help as she slid backwards, the weight and force of his mass causing her to skid on the ground. Her left side bloomed into pain from the impact, enough to complement her achy right. Despite it all, Rianne refused to fall, stubbornly remaining standing even as her muscles trembled with exertion and the pain echoed around both sides of her barrel.
She would use this. Legion was probably gloating now, but he would not be for long. She would repay the favor. Rianne dug into the moist ground with her hind legs, arresting her motion and trying to steady herself, especially since they were now far too close to a nearby match. Her newly bruised left side shrieked in pain as she pivoted the moment she found stability, but Rianne did not care about the pain. That was a concern for later, not for now. She wanted to see Legion bruised and broken beneath her first. Weight firmly in her hind legs, Rianne lifted off the ground as she completed her pivot, striking out at Legion with her front hooves in an attempt to hit whatever part of his body she could reach – hopefully his head if he had not moved while she had, or part of his torso or neck if not.
@minaethiel Name: Rianne Breed: Akhal Teke Age: 9 Gender: Mare Height: 15hh Alliance: Dark Health: 70% - Long, medium-deep bite wound on neck; it will bleed and will take a few weeks to heal, but does not hinder movement, breathing, or functionality - Light to moderate bruising along right side of body. It is bleeding freely, but is unlikely to scar or take a long time to heal - Moderate bruising along left side of body, enough to make any motions with her torso painful. The combined bruising will take a few weeks to heal

The gamble Legion had made in getting so close to his opponent had failed.
The sneer of fury that crossed his face was a rebuke alongside Respira’s advice in his ear. How many times had he explicitly been told to use such a move as a last resort? Or only when he was certain of its success? Getting so close opened him up to pain from multiple sources, the biggest worry being hooves. He’d been so confident about his size difference being enough in addition to the slippery terrain and the close quarters. Failure hadn’t even crossed his mind when he’d committed to his attack. His ego had always been his downfall, even from an early age. Legion distinctly remembered one such challenge he’d given himself, to climb out of the training ring at night as fast as he could. He had to have been a year and a half at that point, and was feeling cocky for making it nearly a year into training. Surely with everything he’d survived, he could do this simple little task? Well, he had. At least he thought he had, until his hoof had slipped on one of the many rocks obscured by the desert sands. He’d tumbled back down the slope, screaming obscenities and fury, receiving no sympathy from mentor or desert. Legion had stood back up from the hole he’d fallen into, bleeding from a few scrapes, and had stared balefully up the cliff.
Maybe it had won the battle, sure. But it would not win the war.
That was how he looked at life. He could make mistakes and get knocked down, but neither meant he had completely lost. Legion was a Helkaer, trained by the best to be the best. He’d soaked up lessons and life’s beatings like a sponge, but nothing would ever break him. The black stallion would always come out on top in the end. Would that be true for this battle? Stars willing, it fucking would be. First he had to go through Rianne to get there. Unfortunately, Legion had given her the perfect opening to retaliate, and now he could do nothing but brace himself. Instinctively, the stallion curled his crown away from her and into his body to protect himself. It left the rest of him wide open, but sometimes you could only mitigate a situation instead of prevent it. Even with that in mind, Legion felt an enraged howl crack through his muzzle as her hooves slammed into his shoulder. He could practically feel the bruises blooming with each strike, and the Helkaer let his rage fuel one last ditch effort through the new pain on his left side. When the blows stopped landing, he snapped his neck back around, his teeth flashing as he attempted to take a bite out of her side.
Name: Undead Legion Breed: Standardbred Age: Four Years Old Gender: Stallion Height: 16.2hh Alliance: Dark Health: 55% Rianne’s hooves slammed into his shoulder, resulting in heavy bruising. It will cause him to limp until healed, like after a few weeks
Attacks
1) Legion bit at Rianne's rump 2) Attempting to use his bodyweight to shove her over and into other fighters 3) Attempting to tear a chunk from her side.
Dodge
1) Dodged Rianne's attempt to hit his head with her hooves/body
Injury Roundup
1) His neck wound reopened thanks to Rianne’s bite. The wound will take a few weeks to heal completely, and even then it will scar. 2) Still has a concussion from his fight with Danika, and the resulting headache kept him up all night. Sleep deprivation has set in. 3) Rianne’s hooves struck Legion’s left shoulder. The bruising will result in a limp and will clear after a few weeks (mostly thanks to his own inability to take it easy.)

Posting OOC with the results of the attack and to conclude the fight
@minaethiel (Always a pleasure to post with you!)
Name: Rianne Breed: Akhal Teke Age: 9 Gender: Mare Height: 15hh Alliance: Dark Health: 65% - Long, medium-deep bite wound on neck; it will bleed and will take a few weeks to heal, but does not hinder movement, breathing, or functionality - Light to moderate bruising along right side of body. Given the day rest from the previous fight, Rianne now feels the bruising sharply, and as the fight continues the bruising may begin to affect her movements; extra 2% docked in middle of fight to reflect effort spent trying to use muscles of right side to unsuccessfully escape Legion’s first attack - Shallow-to-moderate depth bite mark on left side of rump. It is bleeding freely, but is unlikely to scar or take a long time to heal - Moderate bruising along left side of body, enough to make any motions with her torso painful. The combined bruising will take a few weeks to heal. Due to the power and suddenness of Rianne's dodge at the end of the fight, extra 5% docked to reflect new tenderness in her muscles from overexertion during this movement
3/3 Attacks Used 1) Rianne closed the distance between her and Legion and bit Legion’s existing neck wound on the left side of his body, successfully managing to reopen the wound. 3) Rianne shifted weight into her hind legs to arrest her motion, pivoted to face Legion more fully, and reared, attempting to strike at Legion wherever she could reach with both front hooves – ideally the head or neck, potentially the barrel if he had moved while she was doing this attack.
1/1 Dodge Used 1) Rianne landed on the ground from her successful attack and instinctively began to back away to create distance for a future attack. When Legion’s head snapped back around to try and bite her, Rianne put more power into her movement, springing away from his teeth in a sideways, backwards motion that cleanly dodged his attack. Unfortunately, this also strained her aching, bruising body, particularly along her left side (which is bruised worse), so another 5% was docked to reflect the new stiffness and tenderness she feels after this dodge.

Roleplayer & Character: Sunfrost & Rianne Cohesiveness: 9 Comments:- Quite a few run on sentences that were distracting from the posts' fluidity. They either took a reread or were just too much information in one sentence. - Example: "Within striking distance of her target, Rianne reached out, her teeth scraping along his neck and finding some purchase in their intended target – the old, barely scabbed over wound that was evidence of his last match, located on the left side of his neck." - "Within striking distance of her target, Rianne reached out, her teeth scraping along his neck and finding some purchase in their intended target – the old, barely scabbed over wound that was evidence of his last match, located on the left side of his neck." - "Rianne had let go of Legion’s neck while he had lunged and bitten her rump, and therefore had her mouth unoccupied enough to snarl her fury in his general direction, his head somewhere around the back and on her left side." - "Weight firmly in her hind legs, Rianne lifted off the ground as she completed her pivot, striking out at Legion with her front hooves in an attempt to hit whatever part of his body she could reach – hopefully his head if he had not moved while she had, or part of his torso or neck if not." - The posts flowed nicely and were easy to comprehend Realism: 10 Comments:- Everything seemed realistic, I appreciated the mention of the snow. - Took note of previous injuries and how they affected her throughout the fight Movement: 10 Comments:- The first attack was good and tried to worsen an existing wound right away. Second attack is okay, a reaction to the fight, but still a heavy hit if it'd landed. The third attack is the better of both fighters' last attack. It plays smoothly into the fluidity of the battle and is still an attempt at a strong hit. Completion of the Form: 10 Comments:- Always complete. TOTAL: 39 Roleplayer & Character: @minaethiel & Undead Legion Cohesiveness: 8.5 Comments:- Minor spelling errors. Examples: - "She clearly wasn’t going to be adverse to playing dirty either" - The correct word here is "averse", meaning a strong feeling of dislike and it applies to people. "Adverse" applies to things and typically means harmful. - "He could practically feel the bruises blooming with each strike, and the Helkaer let his rage fuel one last ditch effort through the new pain on his left side." - There is a hyphen required in "last-ditch". - The flow of posts wasn't always as spot-on as other Legion posts in the same thread, sometimes even faltering in the same post - It left the rest of him wide open, but sometimes you could only mitigate a situation instead of prevent it. ~ Prevent should be "preventing" Realism: 10 Comments:- Everything seemed realistic. Movement: 8.5 Comments:- The first attack was good, a strong first bite and attempt to push Rianne into other opponents to make the battle more difficult. However, the second attack uses that same idea and isn't quite as thought out. Furthermore, the third attack seems a bit lackluster as it's just a quick reaction without strategy. - Could have benefitted from a little more detail about how his injuries affected his movements and reactions Completion of the Form: 10 Comments:- Always complete. TOTAL: 37 Amazing battle you two! The winner of this round is Rianne Gladiators, please prepare yourself for the third round of battling.
