Round 2
It has been approximately a day after the first round of battles were completed. The contestants were able to rest overnight, however, they are now feeling the extent of the injuries they received as they awake the next morning. The storm that had threatened the territory yesterday had held off, but today, it rages. Despite it being well into the daytime when the battles take place, the clouds are dark, dimming the earth below. Snow is falling forcefully, beginning to gather upon the ground. Today, all the battles will take place in the same vicinity - in the hilly plains to the south of the Colosseum. With the different sparring matches taking place so close to one another, not only will each individual competitor need to keep an eye on their own specific opponents, but other equines nearby as well.
Please remember that this post serves as the first post of the battle. It is taken as though both your characters are now present, and your following posts will begin the fighting (unlike regular battles where one equine enters and has to wait for the other to arrive). All battles are fought with the rules 3 attacks, 1 dodge, 3 days to reply. There will be no extensions given out, no exception. As these are meant to be shorter, quicker battles, the maximum word count is 800 words. *If the second poster finishes the thread with an attack, the first poster may post OOC to describe the results of said attack prior to judging (still needs to follow the three day rule).
Please ensure you utilize the battle for just like regular battles. + ebonite + , you were drawn to post first. You have 3 days from this point to make your first post. Let the battles begin!

The night had been rough. Her entire body felt like one giant bruise. Any position that she tried to sleep in hurt. The sleep that she had managed to get had come in short bursts, which did work out because she did have to make sure to move around. The last thing she needed was her muscles to stiffen up during the night and impede her next battle. She had claimed her victory over Hound and had advanced to the winner's round. The next opponent that she'd be facing was a stallion named Stark. That was all that they knew in these fights - just names and nothing more. It made it a bit fun to try to guess exactly what they were like. When Vojorn couldn't sleep and was pacing to keep her muscles limber, she tried to imagine what he looked like. Stark. There wasn't much she could glean from his name, though it might make more sense to her later. Hound certainly had made more sense once she'd gotten a good look at him. When she'd woken up from her last nap that morning, she was disappointed to see that the sky was swathed with clouds. This time, it didn't look like they would avoid their wrath. Despite it being well into the day, it was dark outside. The snow was coming down in buckets, coating the ground beneath them. Their battles would now take place to the south of the Colosseum, in a hilly area that made Vojorn wince. Hills made for more difficult terrain and the combination of the snow as well as the proximity of the other battles... Well, this was not going to be easy. She'd gotten lucky last time that the only environmental factor she had had to deal with was a wall. And even that had given her trouble. She took up her position and was faced with her opponent then. Stark was a blue roan stallion with a distinctive white mark on his face. A stark-white mark, huh? she thought with amusement. He had a scar over his left eye and the eye itself looked white. Was he blind in that eye or was it a coincidence? She would find out soon enough. He was nearly the same height as her, so she wouldn't have to compensate for any height differences. He also had a nasty looking bite on his shoulder. That could be a potential spot to exploit. She started them off by attempting to circle him toward the left. This could give her the tell that she needed to determine if he was blind in that eye. It would also help her see how slippery the ground was. The answer was: yes. Running on this would be difficult. She needed to be careful. Her breathing was already starting to become labored from her ribs. The snow settling on her coat felt like it should be easing her pain, but instead it felt like it was compounding it. Where to attack first, though? Exploit his weakness, her mother's words again. Her gaze fixed on Stark's right shoulder. Vojorn's pace quickened until she was on Stark's left side, assuming he hadn't moved. Making sure she had a decent grip on the ground, she launched herself toward him. She reached out for Stark's left shoulder with her teeth, hoping to tear an identical gash on his other side. Having matching wounds would impair movement on both sides, leaving him with no strong side. She hung there for a few seconds, hoping that if she grasped flesh, she would tear a deeper wound. Then, she backed off several feet from Stark - hopefully to safety - briefly watching the other fights going on around her to judge a safe distance. She did not want to disrupt any of the other rounds going on. Her gaze fixed on Stark, awaiting his move and hoping to see any damage she might have inflicted. Only a day had passed since the first round of battles, but the previous night had seemed to last for an aeon. As morning broke, Stark had awoken to a painfully fresh awareness of his injuries. The bite wound on his shoulder had closed over, thank the gods, but the flesh still stung, and any contact caused a hot flash of pain to the area. His pectoral muscles had been slightly bruised, though that was nothing compared to the pain he was feeling on his left side from Aftershock’s kick to his barrel. The bruising was more severe there, and every time Stark inhaled he could feel a slight twinge of pain, which indicated a possibly cracked rib. And yet despite all of this, he had still managed to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat, even though his injuries had been more severe than his opponent’s. Well, he couldn’t complain. This was exactly the sort of first impression he had wanted to leave with the inhabitants of Wild Equines; only time would tell how far he would go.
In spite of the slight burst of confidence he was feeling in the wake of his victory, his spirits were dampened slightly by the setting of the second round. All the contestants would be battling in the same area, in close proximity, fighting for space like squirrels in winter. And to make the day complete, it had started snowing quite heavily, and piles of white powder were already forming on the ground, creating a wet, slippery surface. Well, this should be interesting.
As Stark found his position (easier said than done when you were sharing the space with many others), he took a moment to observe his opponent. Vojorn, her name was. Splashed with bay and white, she was barely taller than him, though slightly leaner in build. Graceful, perhaps. Her movements indicated some bruising on her knees and possibly her side, though he couldn’t say for sure. She also appeared to have some cuts on her hip and inexplicably her spine. Whoever her previous opponent had been, they must have been taller and much heavier to cause such injuries. And yet she had won. Clearly this woman, whoever she was, was made out of sterner stuff than met the eye.
As Vojorn started to circle to the left, Stark followed her movements with his one functional eye. He wasn’t completely surprised by this. Almost all of his opponents went for his blind side, hoping to exploit his weakness. It was a fair strategy, but also completely expected. In a strange way, Stark’s blind eye was both a curse and a blessing. It was always the first place his opponents would think to attack.
As Vojorn lunged for his left shoulder, Stark reared upwards. The ground was too slippery to warrant a dodge at this rate, and immediately he felt her ivories sink into his chest, causing him to gasp in pain as a small chunk of flesh and skin was torn away. But in his elevated position, he could hopefully gain the upper hand. Pressing downwards, he stretched his neck out, teeth bared. Assuming she hadn’t moved out of the way, his aim was to sink his teeth into the crest of her neck or withers. Failing that, there was always the possibility that his downward lunge would unbalance her on the snow-covered ground. In spite of the pain, his blood was singing with anticipation. What would Vojorn do next?

It appeared that she was not going to escape to safety unscathed, despite her best intentions. Her teeth had grasped flesh, but she found herself contending with Stark's chest rather than the shoulder she'd been aiming for. She also found herself faced with Stark's teeth in return as he took advantage of his position. Dammit. Unable to duck or twist away quickly enough, she braced herself for the oncoming pain. He pressed downward, his teeth sinking into the crest of her neck, just below her mane. White-hot pain seared through her as he tore off a piece of flesh, blood spilling down her neck in rivulets. She staggered backward several steps to get away, her hooves slipping, just managing to keep her balance on the slick terrain. Her retreat appeared to have taken her to safety and kept her in their fighting circle away from the other gladiators. That part had gone according to plan, at least. She tried to curl her neck to examine the new wound for severity, but unfortunately, it was out of her field of vision and turning only made it hurt worse. She turned her head back, grumbling, and fixed her gaze on Stark again. Her eyes found the new gash that she'd opened on his chest. It looked painful, but it would not hinder any movements in that spot. Unfortunate. She forced herself to move, even if it was in slow steps. Her ribs throbbed painfully with every breath, but she had to try and keep up her momentum. Stark had turned his head to follow her movements when she'd circled before, which seemed to confirm that he was blind in that eye. Unfortunately, she could not use that to her advantage this time around, as she was circling to his right instead. However, the old wound on his shoulder was staring her in the face, just begging her to attack it. Well, she supposed she could oblige it now, couldn't she? She'd failed with the left shoulder, so she might as well try this one, just to be thorough. She increased her pace, grimacing, each step sending jolts of pain through her bruised body. The snow was settling into the raw wound on her neck, making it sting even more fiercely. She'd probably carry a scar from it, though she didn't mind. Scars were storytellers and signs of survival. All great warriors carried scars. Her mother carried the scars that she'd gained during her own battles and Vojorn had been delighted to learn about each one of them. When Avitas got older, Vojorn would tell him all about the tournament that she'd fought in and exactly how she'd gotten this scar. But enough reminiscing - it's time. Gritting her teeth, Vojorn circled back around to the front of Stark and then launched herself at him when she reached his right shoulder, assuming he hadn't moved. This time, she reared up and aimed three strikes at the wound in quick succession with her hooves, hoping to reopen it, deepen it, or cause some bruising. Her breathing was painful as she hung in the air, coming in quick gasps. When her hooves hit the ground again, she could not help the groan that escaped her. She didn't know if it had been a wise move to make given her condition, but hopefully she would be rewarded with the sight of a worsened wound for Stark. This battle has been forfeited. + ebonite + & Whisper . The winner of this round is Vojorn. As per our Gladiator Tournament Rules: As this will be the first loss for Stark, Stark will still continue on in the tournament, and I will roll injuries for both Vojorn and Stark. VOJORN:As Vojorn already took one hit prior to this, you can continue writing the injury you already gave her, and I will roll for a second injury. Vojorn rolled a 41. Please describe his second injury as follows as your progress forwards in the tournament: Stark struck out with a powerful kick with both hind legs, aiming for the lower portion of Vojorn's body, her more slender and fragile limbs. He kicked with a powerful force, with the intention of breaking the fine bones of her legs. Swiftly moving out of the way of danger, Vojorn's movements redirected Stark's kick, and instead, he landed his hooves with a powerful thump against her barrel, on the opposing side from her previous injury. Unlike last time, the kick was not hard enough to crack ribs, but she will still have much bruising on this side. STARK:
As Stark already took one hit prior to this, you can continue writing the injury you already gave him, and I will roll for a second injury. Stark rolled a 67. Please describe his second injury as follows as your progress forwards in the tournament: Stark attempted to move out of the way of Vojorn's flying hooves, but not before two out of the intended three kicks struck out at his already-injured shoulder. Her hoof catches and is not only able to re-open his wound and cause a great deal of bleeding, but also create a small muscle tear. This will be very painful to move for the rest of the tournament, and will be prone to reopening.
