Round 3
Two days into the tournament, and all the contestants are feeling their wounds. It has stopped snowing, but the previous day's storm has left a blanket of the fluffy white stuff coating the ground. This battle is taking place just after sunrise, towards the edge of the forest near the Colosseum. Beware, the icy snow covering the ground might make it difficult to get much traction.
Please remember that this post serves as the first post of the battle. It is taken as though both your characters are now present, and your following posts will begin the fighting (unlike regular battles where one equine enters and has to wait for the other to arrive). All battles are fought with the rules 3 attacks, 1 dodge, 3 days to reply. There will be no extensions given out, no exception. As these are meant to be shorter, quicker battles, the maximum word count is 800 words. *If the second poster finishes the thread with an attack, the first poster may post OOC to describe the results of said attack prior to judging (still needs to follow the three day rule).
Please ensure you utilize the battle for just like regular battles. + ebonite + , you were drawn to post first. You have 3 days from this point to make your first post. Let the battles begin!

Another day passed and another round won. Vojorn's confidence was bursting at the seams. Stark had been a worthy opponent and had certainly left his mark. The right side of her neck had continued to bleed even after their round had finished and she knew with certainty now that it would leave a scar. He'd also bruised the right side of her barrel, a place that had previously been blissfully unmarked by bruises. Her attempts to sleep had been predictably more difficult than the previous night. During her time awake, when she took to walking to keep her muscles from stiffening, her thoughts went to her family back in Dark Woods. She could have returned home to sleep during the tournament, but she decided she wanted to stay camped close by, so she didn't have to travel so far. Having a newborn at home had also swayed her decision. Though she missed him terribly and wished she could spend time with him, he was so little, and any rough housing could aggravate her injuries further. It was better for her to stay way for now. They had plenty of caretakers in Dark Woods for him. And then, when I return home victorious, it will be far more dramatic, she smirked at the thought, unable to help herself. It was automatic. 'Arrogance is dangerous. Do not let it overtake you,' she could hear mother's words echo in her head. She'd try to keep them in mind.
When the sun started to peak over the horizon, Vojorn made her way back to the Colosseum to face her next opponent. It had thankfully stopped snowing, though the storms had left a present behind. The ground was coated in a layer of snow, several inches deep. Traction would continue to be difficult. Her next battle was taking place at the edge of the forest surrounding the Colosseum. There were only a few trees around, given the forest was tapering off. Luckily, this was familiar terrain for her given she'd grown up in woods just like these. That did not mean that it was going to be easy, though. The undergrowth and tree roots snaking through the ground would make this difficult even without the snow as a factor. She was going to have to be very careful with her foot placement.
Her gaze then drifted to her opponent, an opponent she knew from before the battles had taken place. Undead Legion. The little Helkaer pest that she'd met at the Dark Royal coronation. She had him on her radar and intended on picking away at him in due time. Beating him in a battle like this would be a good first step. She had nearly a hand on him in height which gave her an advantage that she hadn't had in the previous two fights. She examined his injuries with scrutiny. The most visible one was a nasty gash on his neck, just like her own. That would be a good spot to exploit, just as she'd done with Stark. Apart from that, she could see nothing else that stood out, though other injuries could become more visible once they started moving. Vojorn was tempted to make a snarky comment to Legion, but she decided against it. Talking was only a distraction and she didn't need any more with her own injuries and navigating this tricky terrain.
She started off by circling Legion then, her movements slow as she tested out the terrain beneath her hooves. Her ribs ached, but she had grown accustomed to the pain. The ground wasn't smooth, but not impossibly pockmarked either. She was tempted to try to body slam Legion into one of the trees, but the tricky terrain and her own injuries would make that difficult and painful to accomplish. Best not. Instead, she shifted to the tried-and-true strategy of exploiting an already existing wound. Her height would also make it easier to reach. She set her sights on the wound on his neck and launched herself toward him, her steps shaky on the uneven and icy ground, causing her to lose speed. Fortunately, though, she managed to keep her balance and reached out with her teeth to try and tear at the existing gash. Hopefully, she would be able to reopen it and cause further damage.

The little sleep Legion managed to get had been uncomfortable and broken. Partially because his head still pounded. Partially because he was so pissed off. He’d lost to Rianne. Not only that, he’d lost to Rianne when he’d spotted Sly, Nemesis, and Respira in the audience during his first fight. He’d been so goddamned sure of himself and had come out the next day ready to go, but he’d failed. At least he’d made her work for it, he supposed, but the thought did little to actually soothe his pride over losing to somebody from outside the Helkaer. It grated on him more than he cared to admit. The last time had ended in a draw, but she’d clearly upped her game enough to break their even score. He’d make sure to pay that back later. If Rianne didn’t think he’d go back to her for another rematch, she was mistaken, because he refused for her to have the last word in their little duels for dominance. Some little part of him was almost grateful to have found a rival to fire up against outside of the Outlands. It gave him more of a reason to improve himself and kick some ass later. More like sooner than later.
Vojorn. Heh. How big is her bark compared to her bite? She’d talked a big game at Avinash’s coronation, but how was she on the field? She’d won her first match, sure, but the second had been a forfeit. Legion had no real idea what to expect, but he’d be damned before he lost a second time. He especially wasn’t going to lose to a painted lady with a big mouth. Despite those convictions, Legion narrowed his eyes as he squared up, thinking on his strategy. For once in this fight, he was dwarfed. This was really where his speed would matter more than bulk. Danika had at least been shorter than him despite her heavier bone structure, but Vojorn was a different beast entirely to adapt to. It took her a moment to make the first move, and Legion kept his feet planted, refusing to move and give away the limp he had entirely. Getting out to the field had been hard enough when he’d tried to walk normally. Phantom pains from the effort still rippled in his muscles. But he knew it would be well worth the effort to keep himself as unflappable as possible. He refused to be caught off guard or herded into less than ideal quarters due to any perceived injuries. Legion knew to avoid the trees with this mare. His maneuvering capabilities were really going to be his saving grace, if he could move.
For all his bravado, he knew the limp he had was going to be his biggest problem. And if he put too much strain on the bruising, it could very well turn into something worse. But he just would not back down. He couldn’t, not with his pride on the line. Indeed, just as he was about to quip about her keeping that pride waiting, he watched as her eyes shot to his shoulder. Shit. the inner thought came as he braced himself to move. He could not afford to have that wound reopened again. Much as he loathed the idea of not meeting a foe head on, necessity overruled his preference. Using the slick terrain to his advantage, the stallion leapt to the side ever so slightly, letting momentum on the snow carry him the rest of the way out of range of her teeth. You mares seem to have a thing with biting me, Legion snarled as he dug his hooves beneath the snow to gain a foothold to really push from. Mindful of his shoulder and the trees to his side, the stallion swung his body around, the speed dampened from his hooves dragging in the snow, and attempted to kick out at her face. This was both to get some space and keep her away from his injured neck.

1) Wound on left side of his neck is almost to his shoulder and barely scabbed over. Will scar over. 2) Concussion is still causing him headaches, additional health taking away for sleep deprivation into Round 3. 3) Limping on his left side thanks to heavy bruising from Rianne’s hooves hitting his shoulder.
Attacks
1) Kicking at her face with his hindquarters. His left shoulder is facing the forest now, to give a picture of how he’s oriented. 2) 3)

As she went to make her attack, Legion's snarled words echoed in her head, 'you mares seem to have a thing with biting me.' An amused chuckle rose in her throat, but it dissolved into a growl as her teeth snapped on empty air. Legion had sidestepped her attack and was now swinging his hindquarters toward her. She tried to scramble away, but her hooves slipped uselessly on the snow. Not fast enough. He kicked out his back hooves toward her face. In a last-ditch effort, she reared up to try to avoid them, realizing too late that she'd just exposed the most injured part of her body. Should have ducked. His hooves struck her in the upper part of her chest, though not as forceful as he'd probably intended. She managed to keep her breath as more bruises formed on her thoroughly bruised body. I'm going to be one giant bruise after this, she thought, not for the first time. She was not going to be able to play games with Avitas for quite some time. In fact, she was not sure if she was going to be doing much of anything. This is what you signed up for. Don't start whining now, she snorted. No more time to waste. It was her turn now.
Legion's back was to her for the moment, but that could change quickly. The ground beneath her hooves was slick and squishy from her attempted escape. Any attack she attempted from this point would likely end with her falling on her face. Snorting, she backed away from it, her steps slow, but steady. If she fell, getting up again might be too painful. She was now a few feet away from Legion's position. What next, what next? He'd already foiled her attempt at his neck. It might be time to use her height to her advantage. Her eyes narrowed. He'd gone for her face. Time to return the favor.
She located Legion, zeroing in on that pretty skull of his. It would be fun to land a blow right on that damned Helkaer brand. It wouldn't be equal payback for the burning of her home, but it was a start. She started off then, her pace slow to make sure her steps were sure-footed. Her two newest bruises joined the cacophony of pain as she moved. Her breathing was starting to become labored. Remaining on her feet in this terrain was taking a lot of effort. When she reached the front of him, she slid to a stop and rose to a half-rear. She didn't want to expose any more of her injured chest and ribs than she had to. She then aimed four swift strikes at the side of his face, alternating her front legs. Right, left, right, left. She wanted to get at least one strike on that Helkaer brand, though she'd still be happy to cut or bruise any part of his face.

It seemed trying to be careful with his momentum had caused his kick to lose power. Unfortunate, but necessary. Legion knew he couldn’t afford to slip on the snow. If he did he would sooner hang up his brand and crawl into a hole in shame. He liked to think that the desert sand made his footing more consistent, but he knew better than to assume he had the upper hand entirely anymore. For all he knew, Vojorn had grown up like some icy freak and could run on ice at full speed. Better safe than sorry, and frankly, after losing to Rianne, he wasn’t so sure of winning the games any more. The thought pissed him off. Trained by the best and yet he’d lost to her. He’d be damned before he lost to Vojorn too. This bitch would never let him hear the end of it, despite likely only seeing each other once in a while. Though really, he’d do his best to never see her again ever if he lost here and now. But win or lose, the choice wasn’t up to him, he could only give his very best to succeed. For the moment the upper hand wasn’t his to have as his eyes tracked Vojorn coming up on his right side. Shit! He hadn’t meant to get so distracted! He was slow to react as Vojorn’s hooves slashed towards his face. The first two slammed into his face, and the Helkaer stud felt blood well up on his brand before he could fully turn away, his head practically exploding into a new headache. The second two hoof strikes slammed into his neck as he turned away to protect himself, and Legion felt pain blossom in his flesh.
Still, rage blasted through him. How dare she go for his fucking mark?! She wasn’t even worth half of the damned thing and she had the gall to strike it?! Releasing a howl of fury, Legion spun again, the movement clumsy on the snow, and reared. His hooves struck out towards Vojorn’s shoulder, aiming to try and disable her movements at least a little bit to try and make his life easier. The second he hit the ground, he lunged forward to try and shove her off balance, knowing that if she hit the ground, it would be game over, at least in his mind. Being prone was vulnerable enough for him to finish her off, though the rules of the tournament would stay his hooves.

Legion's howl of rage was satisfying, but not nearly as satisfying as the feeling of his face against her hooves. All four strikes had succeeded. A smirk worked its way across Vojorn's lips as she landed on the ground, taking note of the blood welling on his neck as well as that damned brand. The sight of his mark bloodied made every single blow she'd taken in this tournament worth it. I got it, she thought giddily. She could take on the Helkaer. She could make them pay for what they'd done to her home and make sure it never happened again. They wouldn't know what hit them. She felt untouchable, her entire body alive and buzzing. Unfortunately, the feeling was abruptly broken as Legion appeared in front of her, rearing up and striking at her shoulder. Too slow! she cursed herself. She'd been so wrapped up in her victory that she left no time to get away. His hooves found their target, striking her squarely on the shoulder. The spot exploded with pain, radiating down her entire limb, and she had to bite her tongue to stop herself from audibly whimpering. Not that she would have had time for that, either. The moment Legion landed, he charged for her, slamming his body into her side. The leg with the injured shoulder immediately buckled under the sudden impact and Vojorn was helpless against the screech that escaped her. The pain in her bruised sides had been tucked away in the back of her mind, not at the forefront, but a constant presence. Now, that pain burst forth with a vengeance, threatening to overwhelm her. Do. Not. Fall. She gritted her teeth in concentration as her hooves slipped over the slush. Her other front leg collapsed underneath her, but she managed to stay upright.
Kneeling, she could feel the echo of the bruises she'd gotten on them in the first round. It felt like child's play compared to these recent injuries, though. The thought of getting on her feet again made her want to scream. Her left side throbbed with agony, each breath coming in a wheeze. You're taking too long, her mind prodded at her. She struggled to get up, lifting her right leg first, setting it on the ground steadily. Now, came the left one. Gasping in pain, she managed to settle it on the ground, as well, wincing. Now, walk, she told herself, even though it was the last thing her battered body wanted to do. She managed a few steps, her pace even slower than before. She was visibly limping. Her left shoulder felt completely useless. She wanted to end the round right then and there, but she had one more attack left. What she was going to be able to manage, she had no idea. Attacking with her front legs was no longer an option. Her right leg was the only one she could manage to raise, and her left leg would not be able to support it. Along that vein, she was not sure if she'd manage to kick out with her rear legs either, with only one good front leg to support them. That left her teeth as the only viable option.
She started to circle again, though she was moving slower than ever. Whatever part of Legion she decided to attack next, she was not going to be able to surprise him much. The terrain was more mud and slush than snow at this point, churned up by their hooves. Lovely. Her knees were coated in a layer of it - a pleasant chill compared to the heat of her wounds. She snorted. Her gaze roamed over the Helkaer stallion, trying to pinpoint a weak spot. Her mind felt too fuzzy, the pain nearly overwhelming every other thought. Well, when in doubt, trying to disable one of his legs would always work. She was not at exactly the right height as she'd been for Hound, but it would work, nonetheless. Pinning her ears, she began the charge, feeling like she was moving in slow motion. Her shoulder screamed at every step, her limp making the charge awkward and ungraceful. Once she reached where she figured Legion would be, she lowered her head and reached out with her teeth to bite at his stifle. She forced herself to stay for a few extra seconds, hoping that if she grasped flesh, she would make the wound worse. Then, she withdrew, stumbling her way away from Legion, hoping that her attack had made its mark.

There were few sensations as sweet as striking an enemy down. Legion felt like he could see the radiating agony as his hooves struck home, but nothing compared to the screech Vojorn gave as her leg gave way under his assault. A feral, goading smirk crossed his face and lit his eyes. That’s what you get for going for my face you uppity bitch, he snarled to himself. If any of those cuts scarred over his brand, he’d hunt her down and burn her home to the ground a second time just out of spite. It would make Persophone’s life a bit harder, maybe, but it would feel fucking good. Perhaps the pale mare would enjoy seeing the aftermath? At least that would be a bit of fun besides having to play the boring part of a neutral. For now though, Legion was getting to have all of the fun, even if wrath and glee were fighting a war of their own inside of him. Hell, just because he could, Legion began a slow, careful walk around her as she tried to get up, limping with each turn. The rapid, harsh movements of a fight were making it worse. Head in the clouds for that last move? he asked sarcastically. Such a proud neutral should know better than to lose their attention span in the presence of a Helkaer. You’re bound to get burned otherwise, Sweetheart! No way in hell would he show off how much she’d pissed him off over the strike at his face anymore. She didn’t deserve the satisfaction, and frankly, the bragging rights. Luck was a cruel mistress, giving and taking away so freely. It looked like she’d finally decided to drop in on Legion’s side as the painted lady struggled to her feet. Still, Legion knew the rules of these fights. Much as he wanted to shove her over further, the desire to win trumped his desire to humiliate.
At least this time.
Next time she wouldn’t be quite so lucky.
Legion eyed Vojorn as she got to her feet, mildly amused as she began to circle, same as him. Come on, give it up already. You clearly can’t- he was interrupted as she charged, the movement not exactly quick, but timed perfectly for his lucky streak of hits to run out. It was just as he was taking another step and, surprised, his hoof came down on a slick chunk of mud and ice. Instead of grounding himself to dodge, the stallion slid forward to catch his balance, and instead caught her teeth on the inside of his leg, harsh and desperate. A growl, warning and fury mixed, rumbled from his chest as he hopped away, feeling the wound bleed and tear with each step he took. But it was over. He couldn’t retaliate, as much as he wanted to get a taste of her flesh himself as payback. Even as she stumbled away from him, Legion began the slow, painful walk back to the Colosseum, not deigning to praise or insult her further. Next time, he repeated to himself, there won’t be any rules to hold me back.

Roleplayer & Character: + ebonite + & Vojorn Cohesiveness: 10 Comments:- Posts read well and had no noticeable errors. - It was better for her to stay way for now. -- Way should be away Realism: 10 Comments:- Kept the environment and the snowy, difficult terrain in mind. The first attack is based on this and she even contemplates doing something else, then decides not to due to it. This continues on throughout the fight, always keeping the terrain in mind. - Realistic Movement: 10 Comments:- Past injuries are kept very much in mind for how the attacks are planned. This extra thought puts her attacks ahead of Legion's. - Movements were easy to follow and comprehend Completion of the Form: 10 Comments:- Always complete. - Completed. TOTAL: 40 Roleplayer & Character: @minaethiel & Undead Legion Cohesiveness: 10 Comments:- Posts read well and had no noticeable errors. - Well written and easy to follow along Realism: 9 Comments:- In the last paragraph of the first post, it starts off describing how Legion's limp is going to be a problem and he must avoid furthering injuring it. He specifically stands in one spot for this reason. It seems odd that he then leaps, digs his hooves into the snow, spins, and kicks out in quick succession, without mention of the limp. This seems jarring since a large portion of the post was dedicated to his leg pain, but then it isn't mentioned at all when he does move without being effected by it. The next two attacks also don't mention this limp at all and it really doesn't come up again or impact his battle at all. Would have liked to see more of how his injuries were dealt with during the fight. - There is only some mention of the snowy terrain, but it seems a bit more like an afterthought and doesn't really effect his movements. - Realistic Movement: 10 Comments:- The double attack of going for Vojorn's shoulder and then for the shove was good planning to get the most bang for your buck. - Movements flowed and took into account the terrain Completion of the Form: 10 Comments:- Always complete. - Completed. TOTAL: 39 The winner of this round is + ebonite + with Vojorn! Please prepare yourself for the fourth round of battling.
