decide your fate. Respira vs Trinity
Climate: It is winter, but it's a warmer day. The warring parties arrive early in the morning, just as the sun is rising. There is snow on the ground, several inches thick, and slushy - mixing with the mud it has happened beneath it. The sky above is cloud covered, perhaps it will snow later on, but if it does it will be light snow - pretty, despite the destruction that will be happening on the land below.
Battle Terms: - 3 hits - 1 dodge - 3 days to reply, NO EXTENSIONS - 3 posts each (an intro from one player, two battle posts each, and then one final post from the second player) - 1000 word maximum
Other Info: - Those siding with the Helkaer will have the Helkaer "fire brand" painted in mud/earth upon them so you can recognize who they side with. - All other regular battle rules still apply so be sure to address the battle thread for rules. - Please see the main thread for any other info: Click. This includes info on how the groups approached the battle and what not, so be sure you read it over.

respira The reckoning had come. The Neutral Kingdom would be facing its complete and utter destruction today. The Helkaer had sent out word and the allies had been slowly gathering over the past few days in Toxin Raj. Everyone was ready and eager to strike the finishing blow. The Neutral Kingdom was weak. Even if Divine had not outright admitted it in their meeting, it was obvious for all to see. Their families had been taken, their lands had been burned, and now their soldiers would be sent home, bleeding and defeated. Respira's face was stony as she glared down the opposing side. As their two lines drew closer and closer to one another, her gaze drifted across familiar and unfamiliar faces. She caught glimpses of Cathair and Kalila among the fray. Hooves thundered on the ground, wet and muted from the thick layer of snow. Whinnies and battle cries rang out from both sides, but Respira remained silent. Everything that had come before was building up to this moment. This was the best that both sides had to offer. Her eyes narrowed and focused on the horse immediately in front of her and she could have halted and whooped in laughter at the irony. Perhaps it was appropriate that they should meet here in the Battlegrounds. Perhaps it was cosmic symbolism. The relationship they shared was far from simple, despite being from so-called "opposite sides." Two enemies who had not only fought and murdered rapists side by side, but had also shared a bed together. In a way, perhaps they were kindred spirits. Had Respira been more sentimental, she might have qualms about hurting the Versai Second in Command. However, all she could see were images of Emrys being beaten and left for dead in Toxin Raj. Allocen was nothing more than a hypocrite. A Helkaer wearing a Versai banner. Respira did not slow her charge, her eyes narrowed and blazing silver as she charged for her fated opponent. "Fancy meeting you here, darling," she snarled, "this fight is long overdue." Her muscles ached for it. The Neutrals and their allies were only prolonging the inevitable, fighting for a lost cause. The Commander bared her bloodstained teeth as she came closer and closer. So far, her feet had managed to cling to the ground, despite the snow. She knew that this was something she would have to watch out for when she attacked. She was not afraid - despite what had happened with Kalila. Respira would not be the one near death's door today - not this time. She refused to let her pregnancy hinder her and had trained throughout it, adapting to the extra weight. Adrenaline pumped through her, every muscle and tendon alive and eager. She was ready to end this. Name- Trinity / Allocen Breed- Appendix Quarter Horse Age- Nine Gender- Mare Height- 15.2 Alliance- Light Health- 100% - One month pregnant The time had come. The war that had engulfed Wild Equines for months on end had finally reached its breaking point. Today would settle it. On this warm winter day, slushy snow covering the Earth's crust, either the Helkaer or the Neutrals would come out victorious. There would be blood, perhaps even death, but that was the price of war. Many would come out of this with harsh wounds, wounds that would leave behind scars that would mar their pretty pelts forever. Trinity was prepared for that. She was ready to deal with the consequences. She had prayed all night and while marching to the battlegrounds this morning, asking Utopia for guidance and protection. It was with her head held high that she charged into the battle, expecting the worst but hoping for the best. She was not afraid. She was fearless. War, the addition of new scars, blood... none of that scared her. She would rather face a war every day than have to return home to the ghosts that had been haunting her ever since the return of Vyreth. Even now, hooves thundering and sloshing through the muddy winter mix beneath her, the events of months ago were still in the back of her mind. She hoped that they would not distract her, for fear of losing the war for the Neutrals. Chaos was quick to erupt around her, making it all the easier to keep herself away from distracting thoughts. Equines clashed to her left and to her right. She recognized many of the faces, on both sides, either from word of mouth or from having interacted with them before. She noticed the muddy marks on those that were on the Helkaer side. The buckskin mare grimaced, having hoped that the Helkaer's numbers wouldn't be quite so high but she still believed that the Neutrals could win. She slowed her charge, coming to a halt, surveying the battleground with a determined gaze. It was then that her chocolate orbs locked onto the advancing golden frame of an all too familiar equine. The Versai wench snarled, baring her teeth and bobbing her head, giving a nonverbal challenge as she pawed the slush below. Respira. Of course, fate would have them meet in battle. They may have fought off and killed two rapists out in the Freelands together, but Trinity knew that did not mean that Respira would take it easy on her. Just like Trinity wasn't going to go easy on her rescuer. They were enemies, through and through, and the nine-year-old refused to see any similarities between them. "Fancy meeting you here, darling," Respira was close now, teeth bared. Trinity's body was tensed, coiled and ready to strike. "this fight is long overdue." Trinity cackled, watching Respira with a steady gaze, licking her lips. "I can't wait to sink my teeth into every inch of you, Commander," she hissed, her voice like venom. Respira was getting close now. The taller mare was but strides away, charging towards her over a slippery surface. It would be hard to stop quickly due to the terrain. Sneering, Trinity turned her bodice so that her hind end was facing Respira, doing her best to find stable footing, before putting her weight on her forehand and kicking out with her powerful hind legs. She hoped to have calculated her attack just right, so that her legs would kick out just as Respira got close. She aimed to have both hind hooves connect with Respira's chest or throat. But the turn and quick manuaver to kick had left her unbalanced and as her back hooves touched down to earth again, her front limbs slipped out from under her. She grunted, struggling to get her feet back under her, kicking up slush and mud in her hurry. What a glorious day for a war. Couldn't the snow have held off for a couple more days? respira The noises surrounding the two of them were a cacophony - horses screaming, running, falling. The sun was slowly turning the layer of snow into a dangerous slushy mixture. The two lines seemed to be evenly matched - it seemed that the Neutral Kingdom had managed to scrape up a suitable number of fighters. Her confidence in winning the war did not waver, however. They had won three battles and still harbored more prisoners. The fact that Respira would now get to face Allocen in battle was just icing on the cake. Allocen's lips were curled into a snarl as her gaze settled on Respira. The Commander wondered if Allocen found this moment as ironic as she did. 'I can't wait to sink my teeth into every inch of you, Commander' the Versai mare hissed. Didn't you already? Respira's crude thoughts cackled back at Allocen. It was too late to voice such concerns, however, as Respira had reached her target. Allocen was smart, though. Instead of taking Respira's charge head-on, the buckskin mare had turned around so her hind end was facing the Commander instead. Her hind legs flung out just as Respira reached her and Respira's reaction was to pull herself upward into a rear to try to alleviate some of the damage. Her ploy did not exactly pan out as Allocen's hind legs connected firmly into her chest, driving the air from her lungs. Sudden, horrific pain radiated from the impact site and she heard something crack. She had no breath in her lungs to scream. Instead she wheezed, blood rushing in her ears from the lack of oxygen after such a hard run. She landed back down unsteadily, just as she watched Allocen lose her own balance in the slush. Respira panted, every breath jarring her injured ribs. She was hoping Allocen would fall so she could crush her with her hooves. She was disappointed. The buckskin mare managed to stay on her feet, but Respira took the opportunity while the mare still had her back to her. The palomino advanced, ignoring the painful heat radiating from her chest, and circled to Allocen's right side. Once there, she aimed a bite for Allocen's rear leg, right at her stifle. It was, surprisingly, right where Allocen had her Versai brand, though that had not been Respira's intention. A happy mistake. If she were successful, she could seriously injure or cripple the leg. After the attack had been made, Respira did not give herself time to hesitate - the pain in her chest was severe and she would not make the same mistake she had with Kalila. She immediately turned to face Allocen's side, where she then reared up and tried to drape her left leg across Allocen's body, right near the base of her mane. She then pressed downward with her weight in an attempt to force Allocen to the slushy, muddy ground. Respira could feel her own legs starting to slip from under her as she made the attack and she could only hope that Allocen had remained in the same place so she could bring the Versai mare to her knees. Name- Trinity / Allocen Breed- Appendix Quarter Horse Age- Nine Gender- Mare Height- 15.2 Alliance- Light Health- 90% - One month pregnant She felt her back kick connect with Respira's body, she heard the distinct crack of a bone breaking. She allowed herself a moment of satisfaction before she focused her attention on keeping her balance as her front hooves slid out from under her in the slush. The Versai Sister was used to snowy terrain, but even the vast amount of training she did in the snowy Highlands wouldn't save her from slipping in this muddy winter mixture. She had no time to react to Respira's attack, no way of dodging it while she was so unsteady. All the buckskin mare could do was squeal and clumsily sidestep to the right when Respira came for her left stifle. The Helkaer Commander's teeth met their mark, tearing into the flesh. Trinity felt hot blood spill out from the wound, seeping down her left hind leg. She let out a pained sound and stepped again to the right, yanking herself away from Respira's grip. The area was bruised and tender and bleeding steadily. Goddamn it! she cursed, curling her lip. She had regained her balance then, but Respira wasn't finished with her yet. The mare didn't stop moving, coming at her again, rearing up and managing to secure a leg over Trinity's withers. The shorter Versai mare pinned her ears, again trying to pull away from the attack, to get away from the treacherous grip, but the slippery terrain again had her at a disadvantage. Trinity struggled to hold herself up as Respira pushed her down. Her hooves scrambled against the Earth, her left foreleg twisting once at an odd angle. She let out a pained squeal before her body collapsed completely onto the slush and mud beneath her. She grunted, shuddering from the cold. She was in danger now. She was at a severe disadvantage... but perhaps she could use it to her advantage, or at least try to. With some quick thinking and awkward maneuvering, Trinity half-rolled her body and aimed with her left hoof towards Respira's front right leg. She didn't care if she broke the bone, fractured it, or just made Respira stumble for a second. Anything that would give her an opportunity to get up. Mere moments after she kicked, she heaved herself to her feet, favoring both left legs. Her bodice was covered in slush and mud. It was cold, making her shiver, but she grit her teeth and ignored the temperature and focused on the battle. Turning to the right, the quarter horse lurched forward with parted jaws and ears pinned flat against her skull. She aimed to sink her teeth into the area of Respira's right withers and shoulder. She put must of her weight on her right legs, not wanting to strain her left legs, and she could only hope that Respira's wouldn't try to knock her off her feet again. She really didn't have the energy to go through that again. She only had two good legs now. She could feel her left front ankle beginning to swell already. At least she was lucky that she lived in a snowy home so that she could ice it when she got back to the Highlands. Hits: 3/3 - Kicked out with her hind legs towards Respira's chest/throat while Respira was charging at her - Kicked with her left hind leg at Respira's front right leg while she was down on the ground - Lurched forward and aimed to bite at Respira's right shoulder/withers area Dodges: 0/1 - Injuries:- Bite to left stifle, the flesh is torn and the area is heavily bruised and tender. Mild pain. She can move it and put weight on it, but she will be favoring it for a couple of days after the battle. respira Respira passed her tongue over her lips and found them coated in blood. Her first attack had landed. However, she could not catch a glimpse of this victory because her second attack had landed as well. She felt Allocen sinking under her weight, forcing her down to the snow coated ground. Respira's hind legs started to slip and a pulse of adrenaline went through her. However, it quickly passed as Allocen let out a squeal and collapsed to the ground, splashing Respira as she did so. Respira scrambled slightly awkwardly to unhook her left leg and nearly fell as she did so, huffing as she regained her balance. Her chest throbbed with pain and she clenched her teeth against it. Respira glared down at her opponent, a smirk rising to her lips. This was where Allocen should be. Laying on the ground in front of Respira, bleeding. But Allocen did not give Respira much time to gloat as the mare kicked out with one of her legs at Respira's own. Respira let out a screech as the hit connected. Her leg buckled underneath her and she went down to her knees. The slush sent a rapid chill through her, and she had to suppress the urge to shudder. As quickly as she could manage, Respira stood up again, tenderly setting down her leg. It was throbbing, but not broken, and Respira could set weight on it - for now. Prolonged standing on it would be detrimental. In the few moments that she'd taken to tend to her leg, Allocen had gotten up off the ground. Her footsteps were muted in the slush and mud. Respira watched the buckskin Versai come toward her, teeth bared. Her first instinct was to rear up again to try to ward off the attack, but the agony in her chest threw that instinct away immediately. Instead, the palomino Commander attempted to sidestep the attack. Unfortunately, that meant using her injured leg to jump out of the way and the leg seized on her. The result was her moving only a few inches to the side and Allocen's attack made its mark anyway. Her teeth ripped a gash in her right shoulder. She had managed to move a little bit away, so it wasn't as deep as it could have been, but it still burned like fire. Respira clenched her teeth again against the pain. Blood spilled out of the wound, running down her side and her injured leg. She tentatively raised her injured leg and flexed it slowly. It throbbed in time with her heartbeat. Hissing, she concentrated on her next attack. Allocen was now close to her. She could not attack with her front hooves, as her injured leg would be useless for both attacking and supporting the other leg. A kick from her back legs could work, but she would have to press most of her weight into her uninjured left leg. She did not want to risk her injured one giving out again, but it was the faster maneuver she could think of while Allocen hopefully remained within range. She settled her weight into her front legs - mostly her left one - and spun so that her hindquarters were facing the Versai mare. Then, without losing momentum, she kicked out with her rear legs, hoping to catch any part of Allocen's body that was in range. She quickly settled back to the ground, her injured leg burning and slick with blood and slush. Her body was choked with pain, but she felt alive. She had hardly remembered she was pregnant. Horses all around them were fighting just as well, screaming and bleeding. Respira was just waiting for the inevitable victory. Name- Trinity / Allocen Breed- Appendix Quarter Horse Age- Nine Gender- Mare Height- 15.2 Alliance- Light Health- 95% - One month pregnant Her kick had been successful in giving her enough time to get to her feet, and also making Respira stumble. Trinity was glad she wasn't the only one in this battle to have fallen. Both mares were now covered in the cold muddy mixture, their pelts streaks with it. Excess water from her fall was dripping off of her underbelly as she panted, her wounded left legs shaking under her weight. Getting back to the Highlands would be rough, but she was determined to see this battle out. Respira was a good fighter, she would give her that, but Trinity had already assumed that. She hadn't become to Helkaer Commander out of pure luke. The golden minx had skills. Talent. Power. But the Versai wench liked to think that she was an even match for her. After all, they were both doing quite well in this fight. Trinity may have fallen, but she had improvised and landed an attack and then gotten back up. Her third attack, the bite at Respira's shoulder, ended with the taste of fresh blood on her tongue. Respira had tried to get away, but her newly injured leg seemed to hinder her. Trinity spat the blood from her mouth, bloodies lips curling into a sneer. She wasn't a blood drinker or a flesh eater but, god damn, did it feel good to taste Respira's blood. Blood was now running now Respira's front leg just as blood was seeping from the bite to Trinity's stifle. Crimson droplets littered the slush-covered ground, leaving ruby accents against the stark white and brown terrain. Trinity's sides were heaving as she panted, adrenaline coursing through her body. A layer of sweat was forming on her buckskin frame, making her figure steam in the frigid atmosphere. The battle would hopefully be over soon so that she could take a break and regroup. Around them, the other warriors clashed. The air smelled of blood. The land's aura crackled with rage. Shouts, grunts, and cries of pain sounded all around them, but Trinity wasn't about to take her eyes off of Respira to watch everyone else. She kept her attention on her opponent, eying her with a steady and fiery gaze. She watched Respira turn, noticing that she was heavily favoring her injured leg, and as she went to leap out of the way of the Helkaer Commander's kick, her left foreleg gave out under the strain of moving so quickly. She grunted, half rearing and lifting her head out of the way of Respira's kick. The mare's hooves landed squarely on her right shoulder, pushing Trinity slightly off balance. She snarled, coming back down on all fours to quickly catch herself before she fell again. She stumbled clumsily to the left, wincing from the pain in her legs, but thankfully she did not fall. She caught herself, stepping further away from Respira so that she was out of range. Her shoulder throbbed, but it was a minor injury. Just a bruise, it didn't feel like any bones had cracked, but it would hinder her movements still, leaving her with only one good leg. She was really going to have to be careful and take it easy until she was all healed up.
