Amaranthine Wars

This is a thread between Leviathan (fleabittengray ) and Mictecacihuatl (Roman ). 

Prompt:

Leviathan was able to escape the clutches of the Underworld twice, but Lady Mictecacihuatl was successfully able to capture him upon second attempt. Now that Leviathan is at the mercy of the Underworld, how will this meeting unfold?

This thread can become a battle if you so choose. 

Please ensure you have read the information regarding the plot here. At least three posts from each roleplayer are required for this thread for it to be considered as complete, however further posts are encouraged. Thread should be completed no later than September 1st, 2023.

LEVIATHAN

A couple of days had passed that he could tell since he'd been brought to the Underworld by one if its leaders. Mictecacihuatl had found him in Unclaimed Hearts, on his way to warn Nessa and her family of the impending war. He'd never made it there, of course, and had instead winded up getting captured but at least with the demon blood mixed in his veins, Hell wasn't trying to entirely get rid of him. Still, it felt wrong to be here, because he was loyal to Utopia, to his mother. The boy sighed heavily, carefully flexing his right wing. It was about halfway healed, the majority of his other injuries he'd received in his tussle with a demon while looking for Nehemiah mostly healed already. It was the wing that had been the major issue. The tear in his wing had scabbed over and had stopped bleeding, but it was sore and ugly looking while it healed. He kept trying to gently flex it, to make sure it remained usable. He would hate to never be able to fly again... though the Daeva supposed he had bigger issues to worry about right now. Like the fact he was in the Underworld now, at least for the moment, until his mother found a way to get him back. He hoped she would not trade Everest and Venari just for him. There had to be more to the war than just winning back her son.

They had to win back the world. They had to show the realm that darkness did not reign over all. There would always be hope, even if your eyes got so used to the darkness you didn't think you needed to hope anymore. Justice would be served. Someone was going to win this war and Leviathan desperately hoped that it would be the Utopians. They deserved this. They deserved to have hope restored in the Heavens and on Earth. Maybe with more hope, the mortals would be more willing to go to the Utopians for help instead of to the Underworld. Levi did not trust Teca and Xerxes - but right now, he had no choice but to hope and pray that Teca would keep her word of not looking for Nessa and her family. He could only hope he had done the right thing...

Having secured a grand prize within the Underworld, Mictecacihuatl felt a little more accomplished now that they had another bargaining chip in play after Nehemiah's disappearance, one that should help bring Xerxes children home. Being a mother herself now, Teca played the card she felt would gain a reaction from Utopia's Lady, a favourable one for them as long as Rasa wasn't as stubborn as Xerxes. The volcanic woman shook the ash from her body as she rose from the ground, bloodied eyes looking in the direction of where they kept their prisoners, pondering a visit to Leviathan or if to leave him be. Past experience told her that leaving him to rot would not end well, while Levi wouldn't feel the pain and crushing weight of the Underworld like Nehemiah had, Teca could not risk the Daeva's safety on assumptions. There was also the matter of Nessa, Teca's curiosity of the miss would not allow her to rest, she needed to know more if she could pry it from Levi. While Mictecacihuatl had never felt a romantic love for anyone, she was not oblivious to it, to know it drives the actions of others, and she thought it was safe to assume that Levi had at least a crush on the maiden.

Setting into motion, the Underworlds Lady trotted across her domain, thoughts of the Daeva filling her head. More than likely he had been fed lies about the Underworld, however, they did have quite a reputation so not all lies. There was more to the Underworld than what others believe, more to the equines that call it home, they weren't all mindless monsters and Teca liked to think that she can be pleasant. As the Lady reached the cells, Teca first came up to the one that once held Nehemiah, looking at the few feathers and the bloodstain that marked his existence here. Guilt was felt for not being more present with the Lord, to ensure he was more comfortable and able to withstand the Underworld, they had expected too much and Nehemiah had paid for it. Pressing on, Teca came to stand at Levi's cell before swinging the door open to enter and then closing it behind her, making sure the Daeva could not wander out. "How are you fairing Levi," came the Lady's soft, gentle tones, almost as if she was speaking to a child. The boy was technically a stallion, able to fight and reproduce, yet he was still someone's child, and that someone had something of theirs. "I can heal that wing of yours if you wish", Mictecacihuatl offered next, her ruby eyes on the scabbed-up mess on his wing, Nehemiah flashing before her eyes for a split second.

It was not wrong to assume that Leviathan had romantic feelings for Nessa, though Levi wasn't sure of it himself just yet. He just thought of her as his best friend, had been his best friend all of his life, and the thought of something bad happening to her or her family - especially because of him - made him feel awful. He didn't know how to describe the feeling of guilt he felt just thinking about it. He hated that he'd told Mictecacihuatl about her, but he'd not had much of a choice, and at least the Lady of the Underworld had said she would be safe... Levi was just going to have to trust her. Unfortunately, he didn't have much of a choice than that, stuck here in the cells of the Underworld.

The sound of of footsteps coming down the line of cells captured his attention and the youth brute turned his bodice to face the entrance of the cell. His movements were a bit stuff, if only because he was stuck in one spot for a couple of days now, without much stretching of his legs. The door swung open and there stood the Lady of the Underworld herself, the door closing behind her. The Daeva snorted softly, eyeing the demoness curiously. Cautiously. "How are you fairing Levi," Her tones were gentle, it was almost unsetting. "As well as I can be, Teca," he replied, his tone even, as neutral as he could keep it, given the circumstances. "I can heal that wing of yours if you wish", He blinked, looking over at his wing, flexing it gently. "And what would I owe yo in return, for healing it?

There was skepticism in his question, because surely she would want something - anything - in return for healing him? Levi would hate to be indebted to her even more, but it would also benefit him to be able to use his nail properly again.

The Underworlds lady stood, looking at the cell around the Utopian child. Dim and grey, rocks put together like bricks to make the walls, solid and indestructible thanks to the Underworld's magic. The floor, was dusty and ashen, with a few rocks laying about, rocks that Teca could only imagine that the ex-Utopian Lord used to entertain himself while here. The roof was made of the very same stuff as the walls and the door, which had a viewing window that they didn't use as often as they should have in the past. No one had been able to escape these cells in the past, and that wasn't about to change any time soon, as these cells they reserved for high-priority captives. There were other cells within the Underworld, kept on the other side for those that they tormented and tortured on a daily, their screams echoing around the area, but the sound never reached this part, giving the priority captives a false sense of security that no harm would come to them.

Blood-coloured eyes shifted to the ebony creature before her, eyeing him once more, he looked almost cramped in these small cells that didn't leave much room for more than two. "As well as I can be, Teca," the Daeva answered in neutral tones, she wondered how long Levi will remain civil before tempers rose or despair took over, or if her calm and gentle nature unnerved the angelic creature. Mictecacihuatl could imagine that it would unnerve many to have the Lady of the Underworld be so civil, and caring even, despite being at the head of the most devilish creatures. She hid the demon within herself carefully, keeping it tucked away for when she needed it the most, for now, Teca would play the role of someone reasonable to get herself a good image in other's eyes. Levi cast an eye to his damaged wing then, flexing it as his attention shifted back to the blood and bone woman, she assumed he was weighing up his answer to her, "And what would I owe you in return, for healing it?". As yes a price, they always assumed there would be a price for kindness, which was generally true when it came to Teca. The Underworlds woman moved closer to Levi, one step at a time, until she stood shoulder to shoulder with him, "Your life," she answered nonchalantly as she side-eyed him, rolling her shoulders. She grinned then as she wandered around the younger equine, inspecting the cell before returning to stand between him and the door again. "I only ask that you remain strong enough to live within the Underworld until it's time to strike a bargain with your mother. We don't need another Nehemiah incident on our hooves," Mictecacihuatl finished what she had to say, purposely leaving silence between her first answer and last, allowing Levi to wonder what she meant by his life.

The cell he was in was musty and dull. It was little wonder that so many lost their minds trapped in the Underworld like this, but Leviathan was determined to not lose his own. He kept himself occupied by thinking of his family - mother, sister, and Lateralus who played the role of father to him - and of course, thinking of Nessa. He imagined he was out in the mortal world with her, or back in Utopia with his family, and kept himself entertained by picturing the colorful landscapes that were so different from the dull gray hues of his stone cell. Teca brought with her more color, but in his eyes, her beauty was significantly dulled by who she was. He would never support the Underworld, no matter how much of his blood was tainted by whoever his demon father was. He may never know, but he worried not about it. He had much better things to worry about at the moment, like keeping himself mentally strong. He doubted he would be allowed out to walk and stretch his legs to keep his physical strength up, so all he had left was his mind.

"Your life," He dared not think she was joking. Levi stared at her, silent and thoughtful as she began to circle around him. There was hardly any space in the cell, meaning that there was hardly any space between them. Leviathan wrinkled his nose in distaste, but said nothing. "I only ask that you remain strong enough to live within the Underworld until it's time to strike a bargain with your mother. We don't need another Nehemiah incident on our hooves," Anger flared through him internally, but externally, the youth just grinned. "Fret not, Teca. I won't be going anywhere." He looked back at his wing again, flexing it gently and cringing but as he looked back at the Hellfire Queen, his voice was strong. "I think I shall allow it to heal on its own, but I appreciate the offer." He would not let the Queen of Darkness hold anything else above his head. He was determined.

The Underworlds Lady enjoyed toying with her prisoners and unsuspecting equines, and Levi was absolutely no expectation, he was her grandest prisoner after all, at least since Nehemiah was taken by the mists. Rasa's precious little boy, surely the Lady of Utopia would ask for an audience with the Lady of Hell once she finds out that Teca had lured the Daeva into the Underworld. Teca hoped that Levi would be enough to gain Rasa's attention and have her request for a trade, her son for Xerxes children or at least for one of them. It surely did not make sense for either parent to be dawdling on getting their children home, not if they loved and cared for them, despite the children in question being yearlings. The longer Rasa or Xerxes sat, the more pain and suffering their offspring faced and Levi was in the most dangerous pit of all.

Mictecacihuatl's words seem to only get a grin from the ebony stallion before he told her not to fret, that he wasn't going anywhere, yet she was certain that Nehemiah thought the same or that someone would have rescued him before time ran out. The Daeva's red eyes seemed to be fixated on his wing as he tried to flex it, cringing before his gaze fell upon her once more, "I think I shall allow it to heal on its own, but I appreciate the offer." A dumb move in Teca's books, but that was a choice that she had allowed him to freely make on his own, despite no strings attached. It crossed the woman's mind to heal it regardless of his choice, to then make up whatever story she felt was fit to suit her and her needs, but instead, she would prod once more before moving on. "Come now darling, you don't have to act big and strong, there's no one here you need to impress. The offer came with no strings attached, especially since you're determined to not allow the Mist to take you, but have it your way," Teca spoke with velvety smooth vocals, almost appearing to not really care what he chose as she looked at him from the corner of her eye.

Teca could not be trusted. He barely even trusted her to not bother Nessa, but he had to just hope that she kept her word for the rest of the war. Leviathan did not think that the Lady of the Underworld was all that trustworthy. What demon was? There were always loopholes to every pact made with a demon. They would find a way to wreck havoc. It was in their nature to be evil. Why else would they align themselves with Hell? What other purpose did the Underworld serve other than to be a home for those that passed who were just as cruel in their mortal lives? It disgusted him, honestly, that anyone would want to be involved with the inhumane things that demons did, or that some mortals did. He would never understand it, the thrill of evil and chaos, because to him it was just that - evil and chaos. It was not something to enjoy or thrive in. The world would do much better with peace than with war and hatred. However, Levi also knew it was of no use to try and explain such things to the older demon. She would most likely just laugh at him and mock him. Say his mother had brainwashed him. All the typical retorts he had heard all of his life from those in Hell.

"Come now darling, you don't have to act big and strong, there's no one here you need to impress. The offer came with no strings attached, especially since you're determined to not allow the Mist to take you, but have it your way," The young Daeva wanted to snap at her, to tell her she wasn't nearly as smart as she thought she was, but instead he forced himself to remain calm. Instead of giving the slightly shorter mare a look of disdain, the winged youth just grinned. "Oh, I will have it my way, but again, I appreciate your concern." Not that he actually thought she was concerned about him. At most, she was probably only concerned about him being taken by the Mists. Yet, Leviathan himself was not even worried about such a thing happening. Considering the current situation, he was relatively calm about everything.

It was clear that the Utopian youth had no trust in the Underworlds Mistress, it would be foolish for him to, yet to make such a bargain there had to be some belief that the red woman could be trusted. Nessa clearly means a lot to the Daeva, putting her safety before his own blood relatives, did Levi think less of his mother in comparison to the little mortal girl? Who would he choose to save should it come to life and death? Sure, Rasa is already in the afterlife, but if she were to not exist at all compared to Nessa meeting an untimely end, who would he choose to save? It was something Mictecacihuatl was tempted to find out, yet unlike what others liked to believe, she is a woman of her word and Nessa would remain safe. Teca debated on whether to meet the girl to inform her of this deal or under the guise of a new friendship, that way Nessa would be able to call for her should protection be needed against a demon of the Underworld, and so Teca get under Levi's skin just that little bit more.

The thought had a soft chuckle vibrate within the elegant lady, which could be mistaken as a chuckle to Levi's expressed appreciation for her concern, yet that did not concern her. Finely dish skull tilted back as ruby eyes looked at the ebony beast, the leaf and feather headdress rustling with the movement as the feathers gently touched her shoulder, Nehemiah's feather sat proudly amongst the group. "You will find no further kindness during your stay here, the others long to see you suffer due to your mother's actions," came her matter-of-factly tone before turning away from him, delicate hooves clip-clopped against the hard dusty floor until she came to stand by the cell door, her gaze returning to Leviathan's form. He probably hoped that Teca was about to leave him to his now boring existence, yet the Underworld woman only wanted him to think that before picking at his mind, "Sweet, innocent Nessa. She seems more important to you than your family, it's a shame you can not touch her, but I can..." the woman smiled sweetly at him yet there was a wickedness behind it. "Do you plan some sort of odd future with this little dove? You placed her safety above your sisters, who I didn't know existed until our meeting," a soft chuckle followed Teca's honeyed words as she made a dig at the Utopian, wondering if Levi knew of his mistake, unless the Daeva was secretly trying to get rid of his completion by telling the Lady of the Underworld about his darling little sister.

If there was one thing that he knew, it was that demons and Underworld allies could not be trusted. As far as he was concerned, anyone who wanted to to deals with the Devil were foul beings who were no better than those demons that tormented lost souls in the pits. It was a shame, really, because he really did just want peace and prosperity for all. Just like his mom. Rasa wanted peace. She hadn't wanted a war. But Nehemiah being lost to the Mists had simply been the straw that broke the camel's back. She suffered from loss after loss, again and again, and was left to clean up the mess time after time. He felt bad for his mother. She hadn't even truly wanted to be Lady of Utopia. She just had gotten tired of so many others disappearing. Ironically, the Lord that had appointed her... had also disappeared. Claimed by the Mists, perhaps, or just gone Elsewhere - wherever that was, if it even existed.

The red woman chuckled. Levi was silent and watchful, waiting and ready to defend himself despite his wounds, if he needed to. "You will find no further kindness during your stay here, the others long to see you suffer due to your mother's actions," And to that, he gave a chuckle of his own. "I expect nothing else from the Underworld," he stated bluntly because that was, after all, what they were known for. Teca turned and began to walk away, but she soon stopped and spoke yet again. "Sweet, innocent Nessa. She seems more important to you than your family, it's a shame you can not touch her, but I can..." Though rage burned through him, Levi gave no response other than the clenching of his jaw. He refused to let her egg him on. "Do you plan some sort of odd future with this little dove? You placed her safety above your sisters, who I didn't know existed until our meeting," Well, that was an odd comparison, in his eyes, anyway. Hayyel was immortal. Nessa could still die.

"Mortality is much more fragile than the immortal existences of those in the Afterlife." It was another blunt answer, with just a hint of the rage he felt simmering between the syllables.
