Gidge and Eli had returned not long after the coronation for King Hunroor had ended. There had been many familiar faces at the gathering. He'd been particularly surprised and pleased to see both Xerxes and Akroma there. He'd not seen Akroma since her murder when he'd been leader of Trembling Shadows. Xerxes he'd seen more frequently, and was someone he'd always consider one of his best friends. Politically speaking, Gidge did find himself in a precarious position with that friendship. He had to balance what his family needed between his relationships with the equines in his life. It'd made for an interesting set of problems.
Sometimes Gidge wasn't the one to make the right choice either. Eli's presence had helped that since she'd become his companion. It was strange to think that his Elephant was a better moral compass than anyone he'd met. Aside from Casi of course. He knew his nature often clashed with the values Casi had, and especially when his mate had been part of the Vigilum. Still, the obsidian hessian tried to do his best for Casi, and now Kanoni. The child that Danika had carried for them. She was just as much a part of Kanoni's life as he and Casi were as their fathers.
Eli rumbled the ground beside him until she came to a halt. Gidge had told her he'd wanted to spend time together with the family. He parted his ebon maw and let out a call to summon Casi, Kanoni, and Danika if she happened to be nearby. It wouldn't have been terrible if any herd members joined them either. Gidge needed to spend more time with those he was leading. Words - I thought it'd be fun to have Gidge and Eli go searching for Kanoni and Casi <3 + ebonite + Pippin (if you wanted a big family thread!)

casimiro The months had gone by in a blur. Casi was not even sure if he was part of the regular world anymore. He hadn't left Omashu since. His main focus was Kanoni. It did not feel great, knowing that he was ignoring the rest of the herd in favor of his son, but he simply had nothing left to give. He had fucked up. He had betrayed his vows. As a Vigilum, he never should have ignored threats of an attack, no matter who the herd was. His personal bias was never supposed to be taken into account. But it was. He knew it was going to happen and he ignored it. His only saving grace was the fact that he had turned himself in. At least that part he hadn't entirely fucked up. But everything that came before that was still inexcusable and a reason to be kicked out of the Vigilum. He could still remember the day he'd returned home after it had happened, unable to speak, eat, or sleep. He had been in a fog ever since, unable to fully get out of it. So, he'd given everything toward Kanoni. The advice that he gave his son pained him every time, knowing that some of it he'd said, he had not followed himself. But hopefully his son would not follow in his footsteps. Casi constantly kept himself busy doing something so he wouldn't have to face the turmoil that was his mind. He couldn't face the pain, the shame, the anger at himself. The Vigilum had been everything to him and he had betrayed them. How could he do that? What purpose did it serve, keeping that information a secret? And now he did not think he could ever go back. Not even years down the line. How could they trust him after what he'd done? There was no way. They might be able to pretend, but there would be doubts there. There would always be doubts. He could never return. He was done. His misery was palpable today. Even Kanoni couldn't seem to break him out of it. His son was prancing around in a circle, striking different poses to try and make his dad laugh. Even at seven months old, his son was very perceptive and observant. He knew that something was wrong. And his response was to try and cheer him up. The thought made Casi want to cry and never stop. But he held it together, as he always did. Despite the toll that it was taking on him. He knew enough from Duramus' sessions that holding in emotions would never end well. But what else could he do? He didn't want to worry anyone else. Even though deep down inside, he was screaming for help. He was hiding it from everyone, including Gidge and Danika. The smiles that he gave them were pained, each and every one, but he made them all the same. When he heard the call from Gidge, his heart gave a lurch and he nearly lost it right there. Kanoni paused and exclaimed, 'Dad'! Without any further ado, the colt was off, running toward the sound of his other father. Casi trembled, but he made himself move toward the call. They would be more worried if he didn't attend it and that was the last thing he could do right? But they should be worried. The thought came to him. He clenched his teeth as he moved forward. Kanoni had beaten him by several minutes, dancing around Gidge and Eli, giggling and showing off some of the poses he'd been doing earlier. Casi managed a smile, but it was small and pained. Gidge will see right through that. But maybe Casi was ready for it. "Gidge, Eli," he addressed them both, "what's the occasion?"tag ➳ T e c h n o ➳ Pippintimeline kanoni is 7 months or so notes oof well here's a v depressed casi timeline is also wonky given that the whorehouse attack was never played out IC so keeping it vague about the specific herd i guess??? a little unsure what to do there

Danika had lately been spending more and more time away from home, doing what she could to aid in the war. This was made easier by the fact that Kanoni was old enough not to need her any longer and had weaned fully from her milk. She was feeling guilty about staying away so often however. She tired to excuse it by saying it was necessary, she was doing her part to make sure their home remained safe. If she was being honest with herself however it was because Kanoni was growing up and as always the feeling that she wasn't needed kept pressing in on her thoughts.
She never felt as if Gidge and Casi didn't want her around, nor had they ever made her feel uncared for or unwarted. And she knew Kanoni loved her as much as he loved them. She just always felt like she cared for Gidge and Casi differently than how they felt for her. She had never expected to feel this way, at the beginning her offer had been purely without emotional attachments. But in the months leading to Kanonis birth and than all the time the four of them spent together as he grew up caused something more to bloom within Danika. She was terrified to mention anything incase they pushed her away and so she threw herself into her work in the war.
She had been about to leave and head towards the freelands when she heard the call from Gidge, for a moment she almost decided to ignore the call. It would however be nice to see Kanoni for a little. It had been... what..? Two days? Three days? Since she had last seen the youth. She she turned about and headed towards the call. She spied Eli first and then as she got closer saw Casi and Kanoni had already joined Gidge. Danika trotted up, giving the elephant a big smile and then turning to Kanoni. "Hey kid!" She exclaimed as he pranced before Gidge showing off. "Nice moves."
She then glanced first to Casi and then to Gidge and offered up both a smile. "What's up?" She asked, wondering why Gidge had called them all together. She felt like it had been a long time since they had all been together like this. Her gaze fell back to Casi, she knew he thought he was hiding how he felt from her and Gigde but she could see how much everything that had occurred was hurting him. Maybe it was because she had lived though her own hurts that had nearly broken her. Or maybe it was because of how close she'd become to the stallion. She hoped Gidge saw it too. She locked gazes with the black stallion for a moment giving him a look she hoped he understood. 'We need to help Casi'

Gidge didn't have to wait long before Casi and Kanoni showed up. Eli wiggled a little in anticipation for their approach. The pair could see how down Casi seemed from the way he carried himself. That was something tha always pained Gidge. He wanted the bay to smile earnestly, but he often times wasn't sure how to make him feel better. So he always offered his unconditional love for the stallion. He had been through a lot. Gidge had too, but he rarely talked about it. He'd had the fortune to leave it all behind and start over, which was something Casi did not have. Even now that he'd left the Vigilum, his roots were woven deeply across Wild Equines.
His white eyes studied his mate as he drew closer and asked what the occassion was. Kanoni meanwhile was striking many poses in an attempt to get his father to smile. Gidge obliged Kanoni as did Eli who went to join him in attempting striking the same poses. The obsidian lead offered a soft chuckle as he went to close the distance between him and Casi. He reached to brush his muzzle gently across Casi's jawline just as Danika walked up and complimented Kanoni. "Aren't they? I'd say they were some of the best moves I've ever seen." Gidge complimented their son.
There was one thing Kanoni would never lack, and that was the abundance of love his family had for him. Not to mention that his family would to all they could to protect him. Danika asked what was up. He looked playfully insulted by the questions from both Casi and Danika. "Well, I was lonely and wanted to spend time with my four favourite individuals. I promise, I didn't do anything this time." He joked and hoped that would at least bring a smile to Casi's face.
He noted the look from Danika and offered her a knowing flash of his eyes in return. Words - sorry for the wait! + ebonite + Pippin

casimiro There was a time when gathering like this with his family would have brought him endless amounts of joy and a sense of gratefulness. Perhaps it did still linger in the back of his mind, that all of this was his, that he had made it to this point. He had a mate and a son that he adored, in lands that he cherished. Even without his position as a Vigilum, so much of it was a dream come true. And yet he felt hollow as he stood there, his son grinning widely and showing off in a brazen attempt to cheer his dad up. Casi felt even more heartbroken knowing that it wasn't working, that his complete lack of excitement was making him feel even worse. He bit his tongue to keep the tears from coming then and there. What right did he have to cry when he was the one who had betrayed his vows? He deserved to feel this way. An outcast among his family, a ghost among his lands. This was what he deserved. His son shouldn't have to cheer him up. When Danika arrived, it only made Casi feel worse. Another member of his family that he felt he was letting down. But he didn't have the energy to change. It was so hard, fighting it all of the time. It seemed so much easier to give up. 'Hey kid! Nice moves!' Danika exclaimed as she watched Kanoni pose, stretching himself this way and that, making silly faces to invoke even more reactions. In another life, Casi felt like he'd be snorting with laughter, unable to control himself, laughing til he cried and his muscles ached. It all felt so far away. 'What's up?' Danika turned to Gidge then, posing the same question as Casi. Why had he summoned them all here? Did he have some announcement to make? Had something happened to the herd? Casi's eyes narrowed slightly in concern (a welcome break from the depression pressing against every piece of him, if he was honest), but if that was the case, Gidge wouldn't be looking so cheerful. His mate was a vengeful one, if something had happened. Casi couldn't help wishing privately that something had, so he would have an excuse to focus on something else. Anger seemed like a much more productive emotion right now - at least, not when it wasn't aimed at himself. 'Aren't they? I'd say they were some of the best moves I've ever seen,' Gidge said, causing Kanoni to beam as brightly as Casi once had. Seeing that emotion on his son's face made Casi's lapse of despair vanish and he fell right back into the pit. 'Well, I was lonely and wanted to spend time with my four favourite individuals. I promise, I didn't do anything this time,' Gidge said, his tone light and humorous. Perhaps if Casi had been feeling more like himself, he would have joked in return that maybe Gidge should do something, or was he sure that he hadn't done anything? But that version of Casi felt so far away that he wasn't sure he'd ever come back. Instead, he felt the silence stretch out as he struggling to think of something, anything, to say in response. Kanoni had stopped his posing and was looking expectantly at the adults. What were they going to do next? Play some games? Race? Hide-and-seek or scavenger hunt? Maybe Casi would show Kanoni some herbs and tell him to try and find them? When Kanoni had been young, Casi had loved doing that. Now he couldn't think of a single herb to gather. His mind was blank. He couldn't think of anything to say. Instead he just stood there as the tears came, slowly, but inevitably. The startled noise that Kanoni made only worsened it. 'Dad, don't cry!' he exclaimed. But Casi couldn't stop it now. It was here. They were seeing it. He couldn't hide it any more. tag ➳ T e c h n o ➳ Pippin timeline kanoni is 7 months or so notes good lord i feel so cruel writing him like this ;-;
