The dawn was fast approaching when Serendipity exited her mother's cave. A guard had come to grab her in the middle of the night to tell her that the former Versai was inconsolable and they were unable to wake her from a night terror. This wasn't an abnormal occurrence and while it was annoying that her sleep was disrupted, Serendipity got up shook and headed the familiar path to her mother. It took sometime to take her mother down from whatever ledge she was on. It normally took some time, as the older mare didn't speak much and what she did say was hard to interpret because it was broken by stutters and mumbles. The dream always seemed to be a similar dream, that Aurora died and couldn't come back. It sounded terrifying, Seren was sure it was. She also assumed that it had something to do with Aurora's encounter with Xerxes. Seren had only heard bits and pieces of the time Aurora had been captured, but knew enough that it fit the crime.
Standing on the ledge that overlooked the valley below, Seren contemplated whether it was worth going back to bed or if she needed to just head to the training grounds and get started. Maybe she could just stand her till it was time to either. A sigh escaped her lips. It was hard to deny that her mother was a huge burden on her shoulders. She loved her mother and she had been through too much in her lifetime. Now it wasn't just Aurora paying for those mistakes and choices. Serendipity had to take care of the old mare, it made it hard for her to live. The constant interrupted sleep made it harder and harder to focus. Her mother's unpredictable and hermit like behavior made it hard for Serendipity to go anywhere for long or have any sort of deep relationships with anyone.
The trouble was, that there was not many who Aurora would allow to take care of her. She barely let Seren and her siblings. The young Versai wasn't sure if there was anything she could do for the old mare, and contemplated bringing it up to the other Versai. Maybe they could help, but this damn war was really lowering the priority of old Versai. The young smoky mare shifted her weight, leaning toward going to the training grounds without moving from the spot she was in. It felt good to just sit in silence, even though she really desired an ear to unleash all of her thoughts on. It would be nice to have a beta or a mate to that she could completely trust to vent to. At least about some things. Anything would be better than keeping everything to herself. She wondered if the others felt like she did or even her mother felt like this at one time.
