Snow was not something Echo had seen much in her life, as lingering closer to the waters and beaches tended to keep the weather at bay. The precipitation was finicky and didn't like to stick to the sand as much, piling onto rocks and outcroppings - so as she took refuge in the valley instead she was greeted with the reality that snow liked to pile up. And blanket the ground. And be in her way. Having to make the extra effort to trudge through the inches of deepening snow annoyed her more than anything else. Mentally, of course. She did not mind expelling that little bit of extra energy to make it through, but it was the fact that she had to do it at all that bothered her. In another time or land it might have been called 'first world problems.'
Echo did, at least, enjoy that the snow itself was not heavy. It kicked up easy and fast and blew in the wind like dust. And the faster she trudged, the more that was thrown into the wind - once her gait became more of a gallop the snow began to fly up so much that it looked like smoke was following her rather than flakes. This gave her a more ethereal look, making it seem like she was a creature surrounded by mist and spirits which was honestly a much more exciting thought than it just being merely weather and gravity doing its work.
Her speed only increased as she let the decline of the land down into the valley take her, carrying her down until the ground became flat to which she let herself decelerate naturally into more of a lope. The lope turned to a trot, which slowed to a walk that seemed leisurely on the outside but on the inside? Echo was wondering why on earth she made the stupid decision to even come inland...but really she did know. One could only take being buffeted by the sea breeze for so long before it became too much to bear. The problem was, coming deeper inland meant the possibility of coming across more equines and she wasn't completely sure she was up for whatever that entailed. Hopefully it wouldn't too much of an issue, the weather had her in enough of a sour mood.

x CHARM It was a bright day, a sunny day, but it was not warm in the slightest. Winter was here in all of its glory, with fluffy white snow having fallen throughout the night and morning and well into the afternoon. Now, the skies were relatively clear, but though the sun shone down upon the earth, the air was bitterly cold and nearly painful to breathe in, burning your lungs with every inhale. It was too cold for the snow to start melting just yet. It was here to stay, at least for the time being. At least it was the light, fluffy snow today and not the dreadful heavy snowfall that left everything feeling so heavy and burdensome. In fact, it wasn't all that terrible, being out in the Free Lands, despite the cold. The large Shire was in a relatively good mood, all things considered, though only a taste for dramatics and trouble had drawn him to Kular Valley - after all, it was known to be a gathering place for the Neutral alliance, and he himself was (and always had been) of the Dark alliance. That, along with the fact he was the reason the Neutral Kingdom had to go finding a new Queen, considering he currently had Orel (the former Queen) locked up tight in the depths of The Whore House. He could not wait to see where this little scheme of his went. He looked forward to seeing it all play out. Thus far, no one had come searching for the kidnapped former Royal, though he had to admit, he was kind of surprised he wasn't considered t main suspect... considering what all had transpired at Hunroor's Coronation, and his known role in holding Aranu and Lexi captive. Aranu had just been accidental, honestly, not planned - and Lexi, well... she had come snooping around his home, he had every right to take her hostage, did he not? Honestly, both of them had just been in the wrong place at the wrong time. A wicked grin upon his lips, Charm lumbered through the fallen snow. It was becoming tangled in the feathering that adorned his legs, clinging to the hairs in little snowballs that were becoming bigger and bigger the longer he trudged through the snow. Perhaps he would go to Crystal Pools before heading home, to help melt away the worst of the snowballs. He had half a mind to head there now when, suddenly, in the distance, came the unmistakable (but muffled) sound of galloping hooves. Finding himself curious, wondering just who the hell was galavanting through the snowdrifts, the large brute decided to stay. He gathered himself into a halt, turning his head slightly in the direction where the sound of galloping was becoming slightly louder and louder. Eventually, down into the valley itself, where Charm stood, descended a smaller equine. A cream hue to their pelt, and quite a more slender build than Charm himself. It was as she began to slow her pace that the cogs began turning in Charm's mind, his sinister grin becoming someone much more warm and charismatic as he began to walk toward her, a "friendly" whinny emitted from his maw. "Hello, there!" he called out to her, still a bit of a distance away, but close enough that he wasn't technically shouting. "You seem to be enjoying yourself." He chuckled, dark eyes locked onto the mare as he drew closer... closer... "What has brought you to the valley today?"noh w/ Echo 581 | ProfileDON'T TRUST HIM ECHO!!! She forced quite an exhale, the audible snorting creating a puff of dragon’s smoke in the crisp air as she heard a call in her direction. Her dragging through the powder had promptly halted, turning her head in the direction of the sound to which she saw the much larger fellow ambling his way towards her. However, Echo was not as welcoming as he might have anticipated - her eyes narrowed and had she a brow it would have furrowed. The only thing missing was a cliche eye roll, but that she was saving for a more fitting reason. "Enjoying myself?" she replied, the perturbed tone in her voice subtle but still noticeable. "You’ve got a backwards idea of fun if you think I’m enjoying myself."
Well that was a little bitchy, and maybe that could be blamed on her distaste of the cold, but still snippy nonetheless. He probably wasn’t bothered by it as much, the extra weight on him likely kept him more protected from the chill or at least that’s what she chose to believe. Even if it wasn’t true, which was absolutely possible.
And while she was in no way going to apologize for her somewhat cross response to him, she would not completely ignore the conversation with this stranger. "Was just trying to get more inland, the wind at the beach was becoming a bit much for me," Echo added after a few brief, yet awkward moments. "Turns out I instead traded wind for snow. Don’t know which I dislike more." And if she really had to choose it would have been the snow - one could find shelter and protection from the wind, but snow? That was somewhat harder to avoid. (Though in theory one could also find shelter from the snow, but that’s besides the point.)
Echo did, strangely, have a strange feeling about this stallion as he drifted into her space and thus while she seemed to act fairly docile on the outside, she was a bit more focused on his mannerisms than usual. That and she made conscious efforts to take shuffling steps to the side or backwards in order to maintain a respectable distance from him - if anything she could argue that she was a firm believer of personal space. And to maybe keep him from paying attention to that, she leaned into the small talk more. "You just passing through? Where’re you headed?"

x CHARM She was not happy about his approach. Charm was entirely amused by that, and how she reacted to him, but he kept a warm smile easily upon his muzzle despite the desire to let out a roaring laugh at her. Had the snow gone to her brain? Had the cold frozen all sensibility within her? Being so outwardly vicious to a stranger without knowing if they were friend or foe could get her in a hell of a lot of trouble... especially with him, if he was feeling particularly despicable. "Enjoying myself?" The short maiden snapped at him and Charm cocked his head to one side, his ears perking froward all the more to listen to her. "You’ve got a backwards idea of fun if you think I’m enjoying myself." Now, Charm had to laugh at that, chuckling softly as he inched closer to her, carefully taking half steps to the side, to make sure he was always directly facing her, no matter how hard she tried to back or turn away from him. She'd have to do better than that to get out of his presense. "What have you against fun, Madam?" he teased her with a crooked grin and his tail swishing behind him, slapping upon his powerful haunches. "Was just trying to get more inland, the wind at the beach was becoming a bit much for me," So, it sounded like she could usually be found at the beach. Charm would remember that, and would perhaps go looking for her there at some point after this meeting. Depending on how the meeting went, anyway. "Turns out I instead traded wind for snow. Don’t know which I dislike more." The large sabino Shire chuckled, tucking his chin slightly toward his chest. "Not a fan of the cold, eh?" he asked, curious and teasing. "Need a warmer environment to be content?" He wouldn't mind passing the time by keeping her warm, of course. He was quite good at that... She seemed suspicious of him, with the way she was moving, but Charm kept himself utterly relaxed and smiling. Outwardly, he was showing no signs of the devious thoughts he was having. "You just passing through? Where’re you headed?" To that, Charm pointed with his muzzle in the direction of Crystal Pools. "I was headin' that way, actually. To Crystal Pools. Have you been there before?" It was a round about way of asking if she was a native, or if she had come here from elsewhere. noh w/ Echo 417 | ProfileI keep falling asleep while trying to type, I am so sorry this is trash :( 11 years 4 months, winter, mid-day

While she did not particularly enjoy that he was matching her steps which made it look like some awkward dance between them, Echo did at least appreciate that he kept himself completely in her view. If he’d tried to get around her or get behind her, oh it’d be a different story and things would be going quite differently. And while keeping that rather calm yet stern look on her face the cream-colored mare was keeping a close eye on him. Mannerisms, movements, words, all of it. Listening, focusing, and until he gave her a reason not to, mentally preparing herself to get out of the situation.
Or at least, what she was perceiving to be a ‘situation’; for all she knew it could have just been a stranger being kind to her. But having what experience in the world that she did, Echo could not fully trust that idea.
"Now, I’ve got nothing against fun! Just don’t want to freeze my ass off in the process," she answered, keeping her tone light so as to not alarm the brute or make him think anything less than that she was an amiable creature. Then again she didn’t know how convincing she was, he seemed rather astute and equally as studious of her - who was to say he wasn’t already two steps ahead of her? …And there she was again, getting ahead of herself.
He humored her question, mentioning the Crystal Pools - she had not been there before, though Echo was not sure if today was the day to go exploring. "I haven’t," Echo started, pausing with her breath when it blew like smoke from her nares. "I usually stick to the Opaque Beach, here, or the Plains. Wherever I feel like, really." Now that wasn’t an all-inclusive list in case he was keeping track of what she’d rattled off, but it was enough to keep things going on a seemingly normal path.
"And don’t call me madam. It makes me feel old."
