Anwen's heart fluttered with apprehension as she contemplated the possibility of finding love amidst the throng of strangers that had arrived to this event. Years of past trauma had left her guarded, her insecurities lurking just beneath the surface, a constant reminder of the scars she bore, but this was also why she had decided to come here, in hope to maybe find someone who could make her feel safe and.. wanted. Lost in her thoughts, Anwen scarcely noticed the approach of a stallion, his stride cutting through the disappearing crowd like a beacon in the night. Her breath caught in her throat as he drew nearer. Was he coming to her? All the others seemed to scurry off to meet others, and she was the only one seemingly in his path as she stood to the side of the crowd.
As he reached her side, Anwen's instincts urged her to retreat, to shield herself from the vulnerability of connection. But something in the stallion's demeanor gave her pause—a gentleness in his eyes, a kindness in them that made her stay. Maybe she could hope - just a little bit. With a hesitant smile, Anwen stood her ground as the stallion drew near, her ears twitching nervously atop her head. She watched in silence as he came to a stop before her, his presence both reassuring and unnerving in equal measure. "Hello... I'm Anwen." She murmured, her voice soft and careful, like she wasn't completely sure that it would carry rnough for him to actually hear, but at least she tried.
As they stood together at the edge of the meeting place, Anwen felt a glimmer of hope stirring within her wounded heart—a tentative ember of possibility flickering to life amidst the darkness of her insecurities. The fact that someone had actually chose to come up to her, to meet her, gave her a sliver of hope that she could start to meet people and maybe eventually get better, get out of her insecure little bubble. In reality she was quite the firespark, she had always as a filly, whenever her father hadn't beat her, but eventually the abuse had just become too much, and she had locked herself up.

avitas This was it. The event had now begun. Avitas found himself looking over the crowd that had gathered. It was fewer than he had expected. He couldn't decide right now if that made it better or worse. Better, perhaps, because there weren't so many around to figure out who to talk to, but worse because it was a fewer pool of equines to talk to and get along with. Oh well, this was what it was, so he had to figure it out. He had walked in here feeling confident, but now that it was actually starting, he felt nervousness stirring in his belly, his adrenaline spiking just slightly. He closed his eyes and took a few calming breaths. It'll be fine. This isn't hard, remember? You've been through something way harder than this. He opened his eyes again and found his gaze had settled onto a mare just a little ways ahead. She was alone so far. He would go and talk to her. His mind decided, his legs carried him toward her, hoping that he projected more confidence than he felt. You can do this. It would be easier once they started talking, right? Once they found something to talk about, it would get easier. Starting out was always the hardest. That's the way it was with everything. His mom had taught him that when he'd watched her train for the gladiator tournament. He'd been fascinated at the way that she moved, at how hard she hit, how fast he could run. How did she do it? It looked so hard! 'Everything's hard at first,' she'd told him, 'but you have to keep going. Push through it and it gets easier. Every time you do it, it'll get easier. It's as true with fighting as everything else. Practice makes perfect!' She'd given him one of her dazzling smiles afterward. His heart ached at the memory, even as he smiled himself. He hoped that one day they would be able to get back to that. They would all recover from what they'd gone through, right? He had to believe that. As he got closer to the mare, he found himself tracing the beautiful patterns on her side. He'd never seen anyone like that before. She was... beautiful, really. His eyes drifted back to her own. She looked... scared almost? Nervous, at least. Her body language was not open, at the least. That alone made him want to talk to her more, to reassure her that there was nothing to be afraid of, at least not from him. He wasn't going to hurt her or make fun of her. How could he, when he had never done anything like this himself? Moments ago, he was sure he'd looked just as nervous. In the few seconds as he got closer to her, he contemplated what to talk about. The weather? The event itself? His home, perhaps? All valid topics, he felt. His gaze was gentle as he approached and he let a small smile come across his lips. 'Hello... I'm Anwen,' her voice was so soft that he could barely make out the words. He gave her a respectful nod, his smile widening slightly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Anwen," he said to her, "my name is Avitas." There was a small pause as he looked out over the small crowd, chuckling slightly. "I've never been to anything like this before. I'm a bit nervous," he admitted, hoping that that would help make her feel like she wasn't alone. "I live in the Neutral Kingdom, in a herd called Dark Woods," he continued on, "do you have a place to call home?" He figured that was a safe enough question. profiletag faeriiefox timeline 2 years, 4 months notes <33

As her gaze drifted across the crowd, noticing that stallion approaching her, his confident stride contrasting with her own nervous demeanor. Her breath caught in her throat as he drew nearer, his gentle smile and warm gaze immediately putting her at ease. She couldn't help but admire the intricate patterns on his side, a testament to his unique beauty. When Avitas introduced himself, Anwen felt a surge of relief wash over her. "It's nice to meet you, Avitas." She replied softly, her voice still that soft voice that she didn't have the courage to quite raise, not yet. She couldn't help but admire his confidence, wishing she could muster even a fraction of his ease in social situations. As Avitas admitted to feeling nervous himself, Anwen couldn't help but feel a sense of camaraderie. "I know what you mean." She admitted, a small smile playing at her lips, feeling a little pang of guilt that she hadn't been confident enough to be the one to come up to him in this event. "This is all new to me too, but I... I wanted to give it a chance, meet new people, you know." She appreciated his honesty, feeling a sense of reassurance knowing that she wasn't alone in her apprehension, and thus she wanted to be equally honest if she could. When Avitas mentioned his home in the Neutral Kingdom, Anwen's interest was piqued. "I've heard of Dark Woods in my travels, but I have never met one from there." She remarked, her curiosity evident in her voice. "I haven't had the courage yet to even try to approach any of the herds or alliances..." She found herself drawn to his warmth and openness, grateful for the opportunity to engage in conversation with someone who seemed genuinely interested in getting to know her. Someone who didn't seem to think her existance and company worthless. All while they continued to just exist in eachothers' presence, talking to eachother, Anwen felt her nerves gradually begin to fade away, replaced by a growing sense of comfort and companionship. She couldn't help but feel grateful for Avitas' presence, thankful for his willingness to reach out and make her feel welcome in this unfamiliar environment. In that moment, surrounded by the buzz of conversation and the warmth of Avitas' smile, Anwen knew that she had found a kindred spirit. She couldn't help but feel a sense of optimism for the future, knowing that she had taken the first step towards forging new connections and embracing new experiences.

avitas Now that he was settled in with someone to talk to, he felt some of the pressure lift off of his shoulders. At least the hurdle of approaching someone to talk to was over with. Now the next step was the conversation and he already had some topics on mind to talk about. Hopefully they would be sufficient and he, of course, wasn't the only one in the conversation either. 'It's nice to meet you, Avitas,' she said to him in turn, in the same soft voice, though he could hear it better now that he was closer to her. He nodded his head in acknowledgment. A polite, gentle conversation so far. 'I know what you mean,' she said to him again, a small smile on her lips, 'this is all new to me too, but I... I wanted to give it a chance, meet new people, you know.' He again nodded to her, feeling an even greater sense of kinship. They were both nervous and new at this. That made a world of difference and he felt himself relaxing even more. "That's why I'm here too! Practice makes perfect, that's what I've been taught," he said to her, chuckling a bit. Now the next time an event like this came up, he could bring his experiences here to that one and it would be easier. Easier and easier until he wasn't nervous to go at all. That would be his goal. 'I've heard of Dark Woods in my travels, but I have never met one from there,' Avitas felt a tiny spike of pride in this, that she had heard of his herd in her travels. "Well, you have now," he said in a lighthearted way. He wondered what exactly it was that she had heard about Dark Woods. Just that it existed or were there other rumors attached? 'I haven't had the courage yet to even try to approach any of the herds or alliances...' She said. So, she did not have a home it sounded like. Avitas couldn't imagine that. He liked the idea of having a safe place to return to, knowing his family was there, with everything that was familiar. He could see how it would be intimidating to an outsider, though. Trying to fit in as someone who was brand new and learning all of the history and connections... that could be overwhelming. "What did you hear about Dark Woods?" he asked her and then added, "approaching a herd can be intimidating, so that's understandable." He maintained the friendly smile as he waited for her answers. He felt this was going very well, so far. Hopefully she felt the same! profiletag faeriiefox timeline 2 years, 4 months notes <33

Anwen found herself settling into the conversation with Avitas, the initial nerves gradually dissipating as they exchanged words. His understanding demeanor and friendly attitude made her feel more at ease with each passing moment. As they discussed the idea of practice making perfect, Anwen couldn't help but feel a sense of camaraderie with Avitas, and a small laughter left her for a brief moment. It was comforting to know that she wasn't the only one navigating the unfamiliar waters of social interaction. "Exactly." She couldn't help but agree, her voice growing a touch more confident as she spoke, mulling over the answer for just a moment or two extra before she continued. "It's all about taking those first steps, even if they're a bit daunting at first." Anwen glanced around the bustling event, feeling a surge of gratitude that she had taken that initial leap to attend this gathering. She realized that sometimes, the most rewarding experiences required a bit of courage and willingness to step outside of one's comfort zone.
As the conversation shifted to Dark Woods, Anwen's curiosity deepened. She had heard whispers and rumors about the mysterious forest, but meeting someone directly from there was a rare opportunity. "It's fascinating to meet someone from a forest rumoured to house so many dark creatures." She remarked, her eyes sparkling with genuine interest. "I've always been intrigued by the tales surrounding your homeland. The monsters, the fog... Is any of it true?" Anwen couldn't help but wonder about the truth behind the stories she had heard. Were they merely embellished legends, or did they hold some semblance of reality? The mare glanced at Avitas, curious to see his reaction. Did he find these tales amusing, or did they strike a chord of truth within him?
As Avitas reassured her about the challenges of approaching new herds or alliances, Anwen felt a sense of validation. His understanding and empathy made her feel seen and heard, easing any lingering doubts she had about her own apprehensions. "Thank you." Her voice sincere and soft, grateful for his understanding, a soft smile gracing her lips. "It means a lot to know that others share similar feelings." In that moment, surrounded by the hum of conversation and the friendly presence of Avitas, Anwen felt a sense of belonging she hadn't experienced in a long time. She realized that sometimes, the most meaningful connections were forged in unexpected places, and she was grateful for the opportunity to share this moment with him, despite him being basically a stranger. Her head suddenly turned while she waited for him to answer, and her forest-coloured eyes caught two swallows flying by quite low, circling eachother in an attempt to woo eachother for this season, and by the looks of it, there would be little eggs in their nest soon. A wide smile made her eyes shimmer with happiness when seeing the birds, they seemed so carefree, flying above everyone else in their dance, so deeply involved it seemed like they only had eyes for eachother.

avitas Any doubts or regrets he might have had about coming here had almost faded entirely. He was grateful that he'd made the decision to come. This conversation was going so well and the next one would be easier now. He hoped that Anwen would want to maintain some kind of contact after this was all done. He wanted to get to know her more outside of this. Maybe she would want to see his home sometime. 'Exactly,' she said to him in agreement, 'it's all about taking those first steps, even if they're a bit daunting at first.' He nodded to show her that he agreed in turn. "The first step is always the hardest," he added on. Now that they'd both taken these first steps, the next ones would be easier. Even if it felt like it was easier not to take the first step and just avoid it instead. 'It's fascinating to meet someone from a forest rumoured to house so many dark creatures,' she said to him and he made an amused expression. He supposed that was somewhat true. There were still lingering rumors of Dark Woods housing monsters - remnants of its time in the Dark Kingdom many years ago. Now that it was a part of the Neutral Kingdom, though, he thought those rumors would have died down. Apparently not. 'I've always been intrigued by the tales surrounding your homeland. The monsters, the fog... Is any of it true?' she asked him. The fog, certainly. The fog was one of his favorite parts about his home, if he had to be honest. Some found it spooky, but he found it beautiful. It gave everything such an otherworldly look, made his home seem like something out of a dream. It was comforting, even. He supposed that was probably because he'd grown up with it and was used to it. The monsters, though, that part was pure fiction. Long ago there had been wolves that lived in Dark Woods, among the caverns at one of the northern borders, almost outside of their territory entirely. His grandmother, Reth, had driven them away for good finally, though he suspected that the fire set by the Helkaer had also helped put that final nail in the coffin. "The fog certainly is. I suppose it's because I grew up with it, but I find it comforting rather than scary," he said to her, "the monsters are fiction, though. The only 'monsters' we had were wolves that were driven away years ago." There was always the possibility that they would come back or new predators would move in, but given how large the herd was, he didn't see that happening anytime soon. "If you ever want to see it sometime, you're welcome to come visit," he said, extending the offer to her and hoping that he was being too forward, "no pressure though! I know we've just met." He didn't want her to feel obligated to say yes. She was perfectly fine to say no. He would be disappointed, sure, but it was her choice. 'Thank you,' she said again, 'it means a lot to know that others share similar feelings.' He nodded in acknowledgement. He was comfortable around his herd because it was all he ever knew. He could imagine that someone who'd never had that would be nervous to approach a herd with so many new faces and new territory to become familiar with. He couldn't imagine leaving Dark Woods to live somewhere else. He could still probably do it easier, though, than someone who had never been with a herd before. profiletag faeriiefox timeline 2 years, 4 months notes <33

Anwen felt a sense of relief wash over her as the conversation with Avitas unfolded. Despite her initial apprehensions about attending the gathering, she found herself grateful for the opportunity to connect with someone as genuine and understanding as the one beside her. His easygoing demeanor and genuine interest in her made her feel seen and valued in a way she hadn't experienced in a long time. Anwen nodded in agreement when he said that the first step was always hardest, a small smile playing at her lips. It was reassuring to know that Avitas understood the challenges they both faced, and she found herself feeling more at ease in his presence with each passing moment.
As the conversation turned to Dark Woods, Anwen couldn't help but feel a surge of curiosity about Avitas's homeland. The rumors and tales surrounding the forest had always intrigued her, and she was eager to learn more about the truth behind the myths, even though that eagerness was laced with just a touch of caution, because of her own experiences, Avitas's amused expression at her mention of dark creatures in the forest elicited a soft chuckle from Anwen. She supposed it was only natural for outsiders to have misconceptions about rumoured places, but she was eager to hear Avitas's perspective.
As he explained that the fog was real, but the monsters not, Anwen found herself nodding in agreement, her curiosity piqued by his description. The offer to visit his home caught her off guard, and she couldn't help but feel a flutter of excitement at the prospect. Excitement, but also a little hesitation. Would she dare? What if everyone would be as cruel as her family had been? But she knew it wasn't fair for her to think that way of a stranger, but sometimes it was hard not to. "Thank you.I appreciate the offer. It's... it's something to consider." She offered Avitas a warm smile, her heart filled with a newfound sense of possibility. The thought of exploring Dark Woods with Avitas by her side filled her with a sense of adventure she hadn't felt in a long time.
Figuring that they had spoken enough about her, she isntead turned her eyes back on him with curiosity and a small smile, feeling herself more and more comfortable around his soft demeanor. "Now, you should tell me a little more about yourself. You feel so... kind and genuine.. I wish I could be a little more like you." She meant that would all sincereness and kindness, she truly wished that she could have been a little more open like he was, that she would have been the one to first approach another, not the other way around.

avitas He really hoped that he hadn't made her uncomfortable with his invitation. He did not want her to feel pressured in any way to accept. If she rejected him, he would not be offended in the least. He just thought he would extend the invitation while the opportunity presented itself. He would be disappointed if she didn't come, but that was on him for inviting someone who was essentially a total stranger. There were other ways that they could keep in contact, he hoped. 'Thank you.I appreciate the offer. It's... it's something to consider.' She said to him. It wasn't an outright no, though it wasn't an outright yes either. He did feel his heart sink a little, but that was his own emotions to deal with, not hers. He'd be wary too if he was in her position. "Like I said, no pressure," he added again, hoping to try to ease any anxiety she might be feeling about it. Maybe they could wander the Free lands together instead? Would that be less intimidating than going to a herd territory? She'd be much more familiar with the Free lands than he would. He had barely begun to explore them. "We can just as easily explore the Free lands together, if you prefer that. You know much more about them than I do, I'm sure," he said, smiling. The Free lands were huge and he'd love to explore them with someone. She'd probably know the best places to go. She offered him a small smile. 'Now, you should tell me a little more about yourself. You feel so... kind and genuine.. I wish I could be a little more like you,' she said to him and he couldn't help smiling himself, feeling a genuine warmth spread across his chest. That might have been the nicest thing anyone had ever said about him. Kind and genuine. He was glad to hear that. He was glad to hear that after everything he had gone through recently, that he was able to make someone feel comfortable, that someone actually admired him. Therapy had certainly helped him, after all. He wouldn't be where he was now without it. "Well, I was born and raised in Dark Woods," he started out, stating something that was probably obvious, but he had to give a bit of context, even if it was obvious. "My mother is Vojorn, the lead, so I'm something of an heir to the throne," he continued. It was odd, thinking about it. He supposed it hadn't crossed his mind as often when he was a child, but now that he had reached adulthood, it was more on the forefront. Of course, he was technically third in line after his sisters, though his mother had mentioned before that age wasn't the biggest factor in deciding who would take over next - it was ability. "I have two older sisters who are twins - Vrakali and Osias. They're about three years older than me. My dad visits us often, but he doesn't live in the herd. He's a nomad," he explained. His dad not living in the herd had never bothered him. It was what he was used to. And he visited often enough that Avitas never felt left out. He stopped there with his explanations, giving her some time to ask any questions if she wanted. He did want to tell her about the ordeal that he'd gone through, though he was going to keep it a bit vague so he didn't freak her out. It wasn't something that you talked about with strangers. It could be uncomfortable. He understood that. profiletag faeriiefox timeline 2 years, 4 months notes so sorry for the wait x___x i love these two <33

Anwen felt a pang of uncertainty as Avitas's response hung in the air, his words leaving a subtle tension in the space between them. She hoped fervently that she hadn't made him uncomfortable with her hesitant response to his invitation to visit Dark Woods. The last thing she wanted was for him to feel pressured in any way. If he felt disappointed by her answer, she would understand completely. After all, they were essentially strangers, and she had no right to expect anything from him. But Anwen appreciated his understanding and felt a wave of relief wash over her. She didn't want to disappoint him, but the thought of visiting Dark Woods still made her apprehensive. Perhaps exploring the Free lands together would be a better option for now. At least until she felt a little more comfortable, seeing that she barely knew him, and had already been through quite a bit of abuse that she was trying to overcome first.
When he suggested that they could explore the Free lands together, Anwen found herself nodding in agreement, a sense of gratitude welling up within her. The idea of showing Avitas around the familiar territory of the Free lands felt much more comfortable than venturing into the unknown of Dark Woods. Her request for Avitas to share more about himself was met with a soft warmth blooming in her chest at his kind words. Kind and genuine—those were attributes she admired greatly, especially after the challenges she had faced in the past. Avitas's willingness to open up to her made her feel seen and valued in a way she hadn't experienced in a long time. It even tempted her to open up a little more herself. But not yet, not quite.
The maren listened intently, her curiosity piqued by his description of his homeland and his familial ties. As he spoke about his mother, the lead of Dark Woods, and his older sisters, Anwen couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for his family dynamic. "That sounds lovely," she said, thinking over her own family-situation, knowing it wasn't anywhere near as good as his sounded to be. "I wish mine had been as picturesque as yours sounds." It was blatant honesty in those words, it sounded so nice to have a loving family, a herd to call home, and siblings that you could turn to for comfort or friendship. She had never had those kinds of family ties.
As Avitas paused, allowing Anwen a moment to process his words, she couldn't help but feel grateful for the opportunity to get to know him better. While there were still aspects of his life that remained unspoken, Anwen understood the need for caution. Some things were best shared gradually, especially with someone she had just met. "How is your father? Is he kind to you?" it was a question she couldn't help but utter, just to see if it had only been her father that had been as cruel as hers. She suspected, but asked anyways. Avitas was all too kind to have had such a parent. Looking over him once more, he was quite the looker as well, a handsome young man at the peak of his life, and so kind... What had she done to deserve to have these moments with someone who made her feel this happy?
