Nikko's Melody suspected that she had traversed the path from Shadow Canyon to the Neutral Royal lands more times in the past month alone than had been true in all the years previous. She tried not to turn up too often checking for news about Orel and the well-being of Aras, in turn sharing how Chime was doing. Yet... these were her children and how could she not worry, longing for good news, struggling not to fall into despair. All while doing her utmost to lead Shadow Canyon just as her mother had trained her from the time she was little. Melody had always known she would lead the land of her birth from a young age. She was aware of how her father had disinherited her brother when he had refused to give up a relationship with the mare he had fallen in love with. And while she had made certain, once Father had passed away and she was old enough to truly understand what her father had done and the choice her brother had made, that Dorak did not wish to be reinstated as heir. Seeing as he had declined even then, she had thrown herself into learning everything possible her mother had to teach.
And maybe that was why she had been so tremendously vulnerable to Lethrblaka's manipulations...
Giving herself a brisk shake at the unwelcome intrusion to her thoughts, Melody focused on the path ahead. It was familiar by now, she probably could have run it at top speed with her eyes closed. However, better to focus on something even as familiar as this path than to have thoughts intrude that she tried so very hard not to allow.
Ahead, familiar landmarks told Melody that it would not be long before she would reach the border of Meraki Woods. It was no easy place to find without prior knowledge of where you were going... but as previously mentioned, this was a path Melody had grown very accustomed to in recent times particularly. Of course, while Orel had still ruled, Melody had frequently visited to see how she and Aras were doing. Pleasant social calls, back then. Now, however... things were different.
Would there be any news this time? Through the thickly forested terrain, Melody spotted a guard, who merely nodded in polite greeting. She was a frequent enough visitor by this point that aside from making their presence known and generally setting off to inform Avinash of her arrival, the guards did nothing to hinder her progress into Meraki Woods. She hoped that Aras was here... hopefully taking care of himself, though knowing her son... knowing how much he struggled over the fact that his twin was missing... given what she had observed of him the last time she had seen him... she could not exactly hold out much hope for that. [attr="class","insidetop"] [break][break][break] you cannot possibly withstand this storm [attr="class","inside"] Boudicca stood at the edge of one of the streams that wove through Meraki Woods. The trees towered above her, offering a ceiling to the lush woodlands. Well, normally lush… the lands were in the process of recovering and awakening from the harsh winter. The air was still cool, but even with the cooler temperatures, life found a way. Pieces of green jutted up from the earth and peaked out from every place that seemed to have a surface. The ground, between rocks, and even on the sides of the ancient trees around her. In the distance, she could hear rhythmic dripping sounds as the remnants of winter melted away and saturated the earth. Boudicca was deep in thought on this day that the world came back to life. Her thoughts mostly concerned the war, the neutral kingdom, Meraki… and they always seemed to circle back to Orel, her predecessor. She had made a promise to assist in the efforts of finding her, and even after asking almost every equine she had encountered on her rounds within the world of wild equines, she had been fruitless in trying to uncover any information on the previous Queen. She inhaled and let out a heavy sigh as the disappointment enveloped her. She had not ever searched for another equine before, so it was possible she was not even doing it right. But she had made a promise and the fact she had not made good on that promise was bothering her immensely. Orel was not just a figment of imagination. She was a real being and she, without a doubt, had family somewhere. The painted queen wondered how they were taking her disappearance.. if they even knew she was missing. [break][break]
It was not long after broaching the subject of Orel’s family in her mind that a guard appeared. Boudicca turned her dished dome in their direction and offered a kind smile, but her mind remained elsewhere. ”Good day,” Boudicca said just as the guard opened his mouth to speak. He smiled and nodded in greeting. ”The leading lady of Shadow Canyon has crossed the boarders.” Boudicca’s auds pricked forward and she nodded before thanking the guard for the notice. He bowed his head and turned to move back to his post. Boudicca’s gaze returned to the stream before her for a moment. Strange how life continued on, even when individuals disappeared or appeared.. time would always go on. She felt so small suddenly, and the feeling was uncomfortable. Perhaps, if not for that thought, she would have stayed there.. but she turned away from the stream and moved down the path. She walked for a short time when she caught the glimpse of another headed towards her. She let out a low, rumbling nicker towards the lead as they approached one another. Boudicca raised her jewel adorned dome as she came to a halt. ”Hello,” She said in her deep, rough tones. Her jewel-like gazers blinked as she collected herself and recognized the equine from her coronation. ”A pleasure to see you today, Melody. Have you come to see Aras?” Boudicca inquired innocently, not realizing that there could be more to her venture to the royal lands.

The sights, smells, and sounds of new life beginning to spring up all around the lands of Wild Equines were everywhere. Evident at home where the birds Abysm cherished – and her children had grown up watching with fascination – were preparing for broods. It was apparent all along the path she had taken to get here in the melting away of snow and the hints of green, growing things. And evident here in the touches of green sprouting in the trees.
And yet, Melody was relatively blind to it all. Her mind continued to circle the questions and worries that haunted her days and hounded her nights. As worried as she was for Aras, so far from the family and worrying himself into a frazzle… she knew herself to be in a similar state, if she paused to take the time to acknowledge it. The only difference was that she had the rest of their family to ensure she took care of herself. Aras, in the meantime… was without that family support. If only there were more that she could do for him!
Releasing a heavy sigh, Melody paused, seeking some semblance of equilibrium. On the off chance that Aras was here, she did not want him to see her in a frazzled state. Even if inwardly she felt herself going to pieces, she would present a strong front for her family.
When at last she started forward once more, it was not long before her path was crossing that of Orel’s successor. It was hardly Boudicca’s fault that things had transpired as they had, but neither could Melody deny the emotions to flood her at the sight of the mare who had become Queen in her daughter’s place. Still, she managed a polite smile as the jeweled sovereign greeted, ”Hello. A pleasure to see you today, Melody. Have you come to see Aras?”
Swallowing against pain that seemed ever more likely to choke her, Melody managed a slight nod, answering, ’Hello Boudicca. I hope to see Aras, yes… though under the circumstances, I suspect I won’t find him here. I was also hoping to hear if there had been any news pertaining to Orel?’ It was a struggle to quash the impulse of rising hope, knowing it could so easily be crushed.
