The pale glitter of stars told Taliesin that it would be hours yet before the sun would rise and another day began. There would be no further rest for the bay overo, however, despite the time left before the end of the night. It had become a way of life for him, a nightly occurrence that rarely varied unless he had worn himself into hours of deep unconsciousness the day before. Which he usually did try to achieve. The sandy terrain of the beach for which his home got its name was particularly useful in that regard.
The shoreline had always been a place Taliesin found himself drawn to, even from a very young age. As a child, he had been fascinated by the tidal pools. He had spent hours at a time, just watching the lives of the creatures who lived therein. And, as he got a little bit older and understood more, he had also begun to carefully release any creatures back into the ocean who might have gotten caught in the tide pools after a storm.
He still did find some solace in the activities that had once brought him joy, even if there was little joy left in his sombre violet eyes. Witnessing the savage murder of his beloved grandmother had taken a heavy toll. It had only been worsened by the fact that he could not tell anyone of what he had seen. The killers were still out there, unscathed, unknown by the rest of his family, free to kill again. It haunted him relentlessly, but there was quite literally nothing he could do. With no way to communicate, he was helpless to do anything about what had happened to Grandmother and could still happen to others. It was a truly awful feeling.
And if that was not bad enough.... he had seen his newly-returned parents. He could not say how he felt about... well, any of it, honestly. He wondered if Nixi held a degree of resentment for the way their mother had left, though he could do naught but wonder, considering she had said nothing of her feelings to him on the matter. In fact, he had not really seen the youngest of the triplets much at all in quite some time. Given that she had a kingdom to rule and the Afterlife factions were at war, dragging the mortal realm into things as well... he understood that she was likely insanely busy. Just as their father had been, back when he had ruled.
At any rate, while Taliesin did not think he resented Mother for leaving, especially considering her goal had been to try and find Father... it was his father's condition that most distressed Taliesin. Mother's physical condition was bad enough. But the physical condition of Father was horrifying. Worse still was the look in his father's eyes. The fear and brokenness and just... Taliesin was pretty sure that his father did not recognize anything about home... or anyone living therein. Not even Mother herself. It was... frightening.
Giving himself a thorough shake, Taliesin registered that he had arrived on the beach. He had not deliberately set his path for that location, but it was generally where he went when night terrors pulled him from familiar nightmares recounting the horror he had witnessed and into wakefulness for the rest of the dark hours before dawn. Drawing in slow breaths of night air, Taliesin just let his hooves carry him slowly from one end of the shoreline to the other.
