These lands were different than those she was raised in. Lights, Neutrals and Darks. Keres had heard rumors of some kingdoms being ruled as such and found the entire thing to be a bit funny. Lights claiming to be pure of heart only to do dark things to protect those they loved. Darks filled with cruelty to take on aspects from those both Neutral and Light for alliances. It was an odd concept. Allowing yourself to fall into such a grey area of an alliance. To be given a title and expected to act such a way. Stepping out of that box would be to taint your name. Your alliance. It was a foolish way of thinking- one the Kingdom she came from looked down upon. So it was this land that she would finally crossover. A years worth of traveling and a land filled with laughable practices was a sure sign that she would run into no one from her homeland. She needed a new start somewhere new. She would not face those she had served so loyally when they had written her off so easily.
From two to fifteen Keres had given the Kingdom everything she had. Nothing but a low grunt in the ranks and working her way up. She was loyal and determined to climb the ranks and prove so many that she was capable of more. She had been promoted over the years until the groups she trained with grew tighter- more close knit. And then she met Astrow and everything seemed to just click. The warrior brute destined to be her mate from the heavens above. So they both served dutifully to the Queen. Going on missions both alone and solo. Astrow climbing ever higher in the ranks until he found himself in the Queen's personal warrior group. A prestigious accomplishment. He was beyond gifted- but Keres was nothing to shy away from herself. She was skilled and served her time. Serving longer than most mares as an agreement with their Queen. At fifteen she would retire and begin producing foals to contribute for the royal army. Once retired, trying to get time alone with Astrow was nearly impossible. Keres had retired to the foothills where she finally found herself pregnant. It should have been an automatic stay-home order for Astrow. He should have been assigned to staying with his mate. But the Queen and Astrow were equally selfish in their wants. Astrow wanting to prove himself and his skills- the Queen wanting to find out more info and use him just a bit longer. Eight months. That was as far as she would make it into her pregnancy before being slaughter by the Kingdom's enemies. A death that was avoidable should Astrow have been there.
Years Keres waited in the afterlife of the world between. A mixture of emotions had been processed. Sad, angry, betrayed, lonely, etc. Yet she still waited. Waited for the day Astrow would pass so the two could travel to the other side together and start eternity together. Days passed. Weeks passed. Years passed. He never showed. Keres had waited for twenty-two years until a figure with familiar features appeared. So similar to her beloved Astrow, yet different. So Keres had questioned the middle aged colt and got more than enough information. Astrow had fallen in love. Found his mate and had four colts that proved to be talented beyond the average soldier. Keres' name was foreign to the colt. She had never been mentioned and was a no one. You were only supposed to have one mate. One lover if you were so lucky to find them. Yet Astrow could bend the rules and Keres could be so easily forgotten. Astrow had passed many years ago- not long after his mate as he could not handle spending anymore time on this Earth without her. It had been more than enough for Keres to decide this was not where she would pass on.
It was then that she had found this world of Wild Equines and their allianced, titled ways. While odd and foreign in these beliefs she decided it seemed worthy enough for her to pass over and begin serving again in the immortal realm. She had called upon the Utopian monarchs and was met with the Lady of the house. Keres shared her warrior history. The wars she had fought and private missions she had completed. There was no room for error in mistaking Keres for anything other than a soldier of her time. So when she was asked to go speak with the monarchs of each of these alliances on behalf of Utopia- the ghostly, skeleton marked creature had been thoroughly confused but accepted out of habit from her prior days of serving. It was mid-call of all those royal monarchs that she began to realize this was not a mission she would exceed at. Her training was not in formalities or that of a politician. She was not a social creature and having to seek out multiple sets of royals to try and figure out some sort of information was not in her skill set.
So the sooty bay found herself in this bleak world. The equines she did see were not remotely familiar and their features did not resemble any that belonged to the lineage of where she was from. Keres was not the most approachable equine. At sixteen hands she was slender and honed to be a lethal weapon. Dark mahogany pelt marked with ivory that represented the skeletal system of what would lie on the inside. Ivory tresses braided tightly upon her muscular boa. Features were like stone. Unwavering and showed no sense of warmth or friendliness. She had reverted to the warrior she once was- the one before Astrow had brought the light out in her. Cold and distant with only one wish- to serve. I, Keres, seek passage to the land beyond. I am ready to serve with fierce loyalty in exchange for a home. Her vocals strong as she called into the stagnant air. A light, foreign accent laced her lyrics- but they did not take away from the stonewall appearance she withheld. Hoping, just hoping that her call would be answered or she would be left wondering if there was more she needed to do to make the otherworldly forces appear. I shall accept any task to prove my worth and devotion. Keres chimed in once more. She would not expect a free ride. Could not. Proving herself would be easy enough; surely she was faced with much harder missions in her home Kingdom. So she abandoned the task given to her. If Utopia was not able to identify her talents from a shared history then why should she serve leaders who were not willing to listen? The Lord had changed since then. And the lands had broken out into war since then. Now who looked foolish? Chest deep in a war where Angels seemed to fall to the wayside and mortals were left to fight their battles. One could say Keres was a bit sour now that time had passed since her judgement task. A life stuck in purgatory was certainly not the goal, but trying to carry out a task she would ultimately fail at wasn't how she wanted to spend her time.
Sixteen hand frame remained towards the entrance of the area where asphodel had it's bleak grass growing. Colors were muted in this world, something she certainly didn't care for it wasn't the top of her complaints. The farther end of the lands grow brighter and resemble something more peaceful, but Keres hadn't planned on venturing that far today as of yet. From here she could see the well worn path where individuals would head to call forth the Afterlife leaders. Seeking their judgement and their task. Keres often didn't see many unclaimed souls in the area but she knew they existed; somehow the path always remained well traveled. Frame relaxed, hind tip of a dagger pointed towards the ground as her weight shifted to accomodate the relaxed limb. Golden-brown vision caught sight of a movement that caused her ivory dial to rise a few inches- twin harks pricked forward upon her cranium. A beast wandered that very trail she had view of. A diry, sun-kissed creature dipped in ivory and a scar across his facade that surely told a story. Maybe even his death. I hope you're a social butterfly if it's Utopia you seek. Her words drifted through the empty space between herself and the stag. Be prepared to seek out every, goddamn monarch in the mortal realms for some sort of information that still won't end the petty war they have found themselves in. Bitterness laced her lyrics as she spoke freely. It was the only soul she had seen here. Best to give him a fair warning so he knew what he was getting himself in to.
