Losing a loved one was undeniably painful. Losing that loved one when you had only just barely found them after years of believing them gone… Suffice to say that such added a whole new layer of anguish. To make matters worse, Melyra felt responsible for her mother’s death, considering it had been in her defence that her mother had been fatally wounded. If only she had known sooner about the severity of her mother’s injuries. Perhaps if she had taken Mother to Mount Vigilum immediately, instead of all the way back to Rain Forest Beach…. But she had not known. Nor had she known about the Vigilum and their ability to heal until it was already far too late for her mother. Alas, the knowledge she had acquired since that fateful day was of no help when it came to what had taken place. As far as she was aware, not even the powerful entities of the Afterlife itself could change the past. Which… admittedly seemed a tad odd that entities one assumed were all powerful were, in fact, limited in what they were capable of. Idly, Melyra found herself wondering how such a thing was even possible. And, for that matter… why?
Giving herself a brisk shake, Melyra glances higher up the slope. How was Warrior’s time with the Vigilum going? Convincing him to come, to accept the help that was offered and available had been no easy feat. The fact that her elder brother had been living with nightmares all his life and had witnessed their mother suffer in the same way for as long as he had known, and even before, from what Simplicity had mentioned… well, perhaps it was no surprise that belief in there being help for it was difficult for him to conjure.
Still, in the end she had managed to convince Warrior to at least give it a try. Which was what he was doing now, while she loitered towards the bottom of Mount Vigilum. Melyra could only hope and pray her brother received the aid she knew he really needed. It was not often that Sparrow left the realm of the beaches here in Wild Equines, but he knew he would never learn more about his new home if he did not start to explore it. Not that he'd never left the seaside before, because of course he had. He'd explored mountains and caves and deserts and beyond before, he just felt most at home near the ocean. Today, his hooves had carried him toward a mountainous terrain, a fair ways away from the sea. The morning air was fresh, with hints of rain upon it. He breathed in the air and sighed happily, his tail swishing against his hide as he trotted along. His dreadlocked mane bounced against his neck with every stride, the beads that adorned his hair rattling together with his movements. When he wasn't trying to be sneaky, it was very obvious where he was. Not that it bothered him. If he had no reason to sneak, why would he bother using up his energy on being quiet? He was even humming as he plodded along, a sea shanty from back home. He debated if he wanted to climb up the mountain he was approaching, or if he wanted to stay on more even ground. Did he dare ascend the mountain when he had no idea what the territory here was like? Were there predators lurking, or perhaps enemies hiding in the crevices waiting to strike? The possibilities were endless, but he ended up slowing his pace instead of increasing it like he would have had he been going up the mountain path. Why? Because he spotted a woman, perhaps around his age, all by her lonesome. Curious, the pirate whinnied to gather her attention and began to walk in her direction. She was at the base of the mountain he'd had his eye on and as he got closer, he realized she looked... unsettled? Unhappy? Something negative. "Hello there!" he called out to her, a grin on his face as he eyed the saddened mare. What could she have to be sad about? A lot, he supposed. Not everyone could just bounce back from trauma like he apparently could. Every few moments Melyra found her gaze pointing upwards along the mountain's pathways. She did not expect to see her half-brother. Not yet. While Casimiro had given her some vague ideas on what helping her brother would entail, it had mostly been enough for her to realize that it would be no easy task. Certainly not the sort of thing that could be accomplished in a scant few minutes. No, Melyra did not really expect to see Warrior strolling down the mountain pathway anytime soon. Despite that fact, she could not help the fact that her gaze kept right on straying in that direction. If nothing else, she could not help wondering what was happening right that moment. And wishing that she could have done more to help. Of course, she had taken the initial steps that her brother never would have done on his own. Having heard about the Vigilum and their healing abilities, she had felt compelled to see if anything could be done for her brother. And when it seemed that maybe something could be done, she had successfully managed to convince Warrior to come and accept the help offered to help him with the awful nightmares he had suffered his whole life, which had only grown worse after their mother's tragic end.
Shivering a little at memories she could not quite suppress, an unfamiliar whinny broke through Melyra's thoughts. Though guarded as she turned to face the approaching stallion, the smoky silver black damsel was admittedly grateful for the interruption that had prevented her thoughts from fully plunging into the darkest depths.
"Hello there!" the fellow called out, a friendly grin upon his maw. "Will you be venturing up the mountain today?"
The question was innocent enough, but... Melyra had to suppress a wince at the raw wounds it exposed. Managing a smile, she answered, 'Hello there yourself.' Glancing briefly toward the mountain, she then added, 'No, I am not venturing up the mountain. Just... waiting on someone who did.' And Utopia willing... he would get the help he needed and would find the healing that he deserved after everything he had endured.
