yvette It had been some months now since she'd visited the lovely stallion who'd volunteered to train her to defend herself. Some months since she had donned the mask of Carmilla, a poor lonely mare who had been abandoned by her lover after he'd gotten her pregnant. And then consequentially had lost her baby. Such a sad, sad tale that Yvette had constructed. Sometimes she worried that it was too sad. Sadness had never been her strong suit, but it was a quick way to earn sympathy and she very much wanted to get close to this particular stallion. Valfrid. He had Versai ties, that much she knew. But so far he was very careful to not reveal much about himself. Yvette found it maddening and Carmilla found it rude. She wanted to know more about him - and she was going to try to pull on those strings of guilt this time around. She had been quite busy lately what with doing her little experiments on those four lovelies - but she was back in this game now. Besides, it wans't that unusual for someone grieving a child to disappear for a bit. It meant, of course, that Yvette had to analyze and figure out where in the process Carmilla would reasonably be. The angry stage? That seemed appropriate. And it also might help her to get more information out of Valfrid. After all, how could he keep things from poor, angry, grieving Carmilla? She walked to Femiet Beach, toward their usual gathering place, a spot that she hadn't been to in quite some time. Hopefully Valfrid still checked this spot every week or this would end up being very disappointing. She'd have to resort to other methods then. More violent ones. Which she enjoyed just as much as this ruse. She'd coated herself in a light layer of dust this time, disguising her cambion mark with practiced ease. Carmilla as a character was not one to keep up on regular bathing, especially in grief. But this time, at least, her mane and tail were relatively groomed and not a tangled, muddy mess like they'd been the last time. She was showing some improvements. Now, she just had to wait and see if the stallion appeared. Their last session had been a very basic one and Yvette had to bite her tongue quite a few times to keep herself from giggling at what a fool she was making of herself. But she did have to hand it to Valfrid - he knew what he was doing. Perhaps she would end up learning a few new skills in this process as well. While being trained by some Light was abhorrent to her, she would not dispose of any skills that would help her. She would take every advantage she could get. timeline after she lets the dark woods gang go, after the dark coronation, murmur is 1 year or so tag fleabittengray with Xovad/Valfrid notes >D

x XOVAD Xovad was starting to get worried. He came here to Femiet Beach at their scheduled time, every time, but he never saw the mare who had called herself Carmilla. He worried that she may be in trouble, or may be hurt. Either way, she had not been at their designated meeting spit for many weeks yet. He would still come every week to look for her, in hopes of meeting up with the maiden once more. He had not even seen her since becoming a full Versai! The Versai brand was sprawled across his chest, loud and proud. He wanted to tell Carmilla about the Versai and the Highlands, but he had yet to really explain it much. As he approached the area where he and the mare had agreed to meet, Xovad was not expecting to see anyone. However, much to his delight and surprise, the still mainly unkempt mare was there! "Carmilla!" Xovad called out happily, red eyes bright with excitement. She looked decent but something, someone, was missing. "Did you want to get right int it woad, or start with something simple?" He had a few different ideas of what they could work on. "Or do you just want to chat and catch up for a little while? It's been a long time, hasn't it?" + ebonite + w/ "Carmilla" 218 | Xovad / ValfridForgive the quality, got discharged from hospital halfway through post sdhfsl 5 years 10 months, summer, after Selven's Coronation, after his war thread with Fennore

yvette Yvette had a mildly worried expression on her face with just a hint of the anger that simmered within. She was angry at the universe for dealing her such a terrible hand - a bad relationship, a hard pregnancy, and the loss of a child. How unfair life was. Valfrid was the only horse she was speaking to regularly and now she was going to have some questions about his origins. He knew a lot about her, but she knew next to nothing about him. That didn't seem very fair now did it? Were they actually friends if she knew so little about it? Yvette was excited to put on the pouting expression to try and guilt trip him. Oh, this was going to be so much fun! She wanted to bounce in anticipation, but she held herself in position, not betraying anything of what she was feeling on the inside. She had to maintain her disguise at all times in the fields, lest someone point something out in the future. It wouldn't do to have some stranger come up to Valfrid afterward and confide about how his innocent little Carmilla had been jumping with joy only moments before his arrival. That just wouldn't do. Yvette was pleased to see that Valfrid continued on with their tradition, despite how many weeks she had missed of their training. She had lost count of them, actually. Such a devoted soul! He must have some kind of care for her to continue to show up after so long. That thought was pleasing, both to Yvette and Carmilla. Perhaps he did care after all, even if she knew so little about him. 'Carmilla!' He greeted her. She managed her usual shy smile back at him. He really was a handsome fellow, she had to admit. And... what was that? Her eyes narrowed in on a distinctive brand on his chest. A Versai brand. Yvette had to bite her tongue to keep herself from beaming. Oh ho what was this? Valfrid was a Versai himself now? 'Did you want to get right into it or start with something simple?' he asked her. Yvette herself wanted a challenge, but Carmilla was a beginner and couldn't handle such things. In fact, she'd forgotten almost everything given how long it had been since their last session. 'Or do you just want to chat and catch up for a little while? It's been a long time, hasn't it?' he posed another question to her. She nodded to him, her nod slowing as she continued, as her expression turned more and more somber. "It has," she acknowledged, her voice soft. "I had to take time to mourn," she continued, "I'll never understand why it had to be this way." Her tone and face darkened, the rage peeking through. "Why?" her violet eyes fixed on Valfrid's red, "why did I have to lose my baby? Why did my partner have to... have to... abandon me?" Yvette bit her tongue to force tears into her eyes. Why oh why was life so unfair? timeline after she lets the dark woods gang go, after the dark coronation, murmur is 1 year or so tag fleabittengray with Xovad/Valfrid notes one more post for foal(s) if you wanna do it now LOL

x XOVAD She looked so sad... It worried him immensely and he was beginning to wonder if this was even a good idea to do today. If she was feeling too upset to properly train, then she wasn't going to retain anything and the training session was going to be useless. He hoped she would agree to just talk things out while she was here. Get some things off her chest so that she didn't have to carry such a heavy burden - whatever it was - all by herself anymore. He genuinely liked Carmilla and wanted her to have a successful and happy life. Right now it didn't look like she had either... as much as he hated to say that about someone. It was the truth. She did not look like a happy successful young woman and it was upsetting because for one thing, Carmilla was so pretty, but she wasn't taking care of herself. Not just because she should, but because she deserved to not look unkempt. She deserved to feel as pretty as she looked underneath the dust and the tangles. She didn't say much after he'd spoken and that went on to worry him even more. He tilted his head to the side, frowning, ears perking forward. His red eyes were attention to the mare , watching her expression become more and more sorrowful. Mournful. "It has," Carmilla finally spoke, and her tone was so soft Xovad had to lean in a little to make sure he properly heard her. "I had to take time to mourn," He nickered encouragingly, comfortingly, and gently reached out toward her with his muzzle. "I'll never understand why it had to be this way." There was another spark in her voice then, as well as in her features. A spark of rage. "Why?" Her violet eyes met Xovad's red and he held her gaze steadily. "why did I have to lose my baby? Why did my partner have to... have to... abandon me?"His poor friend! She had tears in her eyes and all Xovad wanted to do in that moment was embrace her, but they still didn't quite know each other well enough for that. So he reached his muzzle out again, touching her cheek. "I can't tell you why, Carmilla. Sometimes shit just happens, and we're powerless to stop it. But you're a strong young woman, and I know you can make it through this." He smiled, handsome and kind, "And if there's anything more I can do to help you, please, let me know. I'm here to do whatever I can."+ ebonite + w/ "Carmilla" 430 | Xovad / ValfridPardon the quality, just got my IV pain meds so I'm a lil loopy. <3 5 years 10 months, summer, after Selven's Coronation, after his war thread with Fennore

yvette The tears rolled down her cheeks and Yvette gave herself an internal applause. Crying had always been hard for her to do and she had succeeded this time. Her tongue was stinging, but it was a minor inconvenience. As long as the disguise continued to work, it was all worth it. Valfrid's eyes were full of sympathy and he reached forward to touch her cheek in comfort. Yvette-as-Carmilla froze, the touch of course, conjuring up all kinds of memories for poor Carmilla, of her ex-partner and all of the times he'd done that to her. Yvette herself was also a fan of physical affection, surprisingly enough, though she had yet to find a stable partner to sate her. For now, she was fine without it if the purpose was only to spawn more cambions for her army. It was one of her goals with Valfrid, though she was equally as interested in gathering information from him, which would be easier if he became intimate with her. It brought out all kinds of trust, didn't it? Especially for someone like him - a Light and a Versai at that. All about the feelings. She resisted the urge to smirk, keeping the shocked look on her face, her mouth opening and closing once as she tried to find words to reply. 'I can't tell you why, Carmilla. Sometimes shit just happens, and we're powerless to stop it. But you're a strong young woman, and I know you can make it through this.' He smiled at her after this. Ever the charmer! Poor sweet Carmilla was helpless against it, even as she felt anger over how assured he was that she would make it through this. How could he possibly know that? 'And if there's anything more I can do to help you, please, let me know. I'm here to do whatever I can.' He continued. Yvette was almost tempted right then and there to suggest that he comfort Carmilla and give her better memories to think about, but she had tread lightly here. She didn't want to drive him away. She had to play the long game here, take it nice and slow like a gentleman like Valfrid would want, right? Surely a virtuous Light like him wouldn't "take advantage" of Carmilla's fragile emotional state? Perhaps it was a path to prod at, though. See just how virtuous he actually was. "How do you know that?" she sniffed at him, recovered from the touch, wanting more of it, despite herself. "How do you know I'm strong enough?" Her gaze met his own, her eyes red and still misted over. "I barely even know you... you haven't told me a lot about yourself," she smiled in what Yvette hoped was an appropriately bitter way, "you know so much about me, but I know so little about you." Her gaze flicked from his face to the symbol on his chest. "What is that? I don't remember seeing it before..." she asked, hopeful, tentative. Carmilla was removed from most of Wild Equines society, especially since the loss of her child, so she didn't know much about the factions. She spent her time in the Freelands, a free spirit without a care for the politics of the lands. So, how would Valfrid explain the concept of the Versai to her, if he explained it at all? timeline after she lets the dark woods gang go, after the dark coronation, murmur is 1 year or so tag fleabittengray with Xovad/Valfrid notes aaaaaaaa

For someone with years of training, Xovad sure was falling for Carmilla's trickery without a second of doubt. His kindness would be his downfall, but right now he was hoping his kindness would just be enough to cheer the mare up. He doubted the other man had anyone else left in her life to comfort her. Her tears broke his heart and he yearned to pull her closer and comfort her, since he was a very physical guy in general when it came to friendships. He was reminded briefly of how he used to embrace Nixi and felt an uncomfortable pang in his chest. He was quick to push away all thoughts of the Queen and focused on Carmilla. In all fairness, Carmilla was very pretty. Dark bay with violet eyes and standing just a fraction taller than Xovad himself, she had a different air about her then Nixi had. Carmilla was... innocent? Naive? Something like that. But it suited her and intrigued him. If he wasn't still so heartbroken over Nixi perhaps he might have even been able to have a crush on her.
"How do you know that?" She asked him, sniffling, and Xovad tilted his head to the side, ears twitching. "How do you know I'm strong enough?" Their eyes met and Xovad was struck but just how pretty and vulnerable she looked then and there. He cleared his throat, wanting to avert his eyes but not allowing himself to do so. "I know you're strong because you've come this far without giving up. I can't pretend to know what you went through and how it felt, but I know it took a hell of a lot of strength and courage. And I think you should stop underestimating yourself, Carmilla. You've got so much potential!" What little training that they had managed to start, Xovad was already impressed with. "I barely even know you... you haven't told me a lot about yourself," Though she smiled, something about the way the words were said made him feel guilty and he gave a lopsided grin. you know so much about me, but I know so little about you." There was a beat of silence, in which Xovad spoke, "I apologize for being so mysterious."
He took note of how her eyes had traveled from his face to his chest, where his Versai brand stood out, loud and proud, white against gold. "What is that? I don't remember seeing it before..." Sheepishly, he chuckled, reaching to bump his own muzzle against his chest. There was a spark in his red eyes, one of pride. "This is the marking of the Versai. Have you heard of them?" he asked, though going on to also explain, "My mother, Allocen, has retired since our last meeting, and I took her place amongst the Versai since I was her heir. I now rule over our home, Lyrarcor, and am a Druid in the Versai."

yvette The way that Valfrid's gaze met her own set poor Carmilla's heart all a-flutter, but doubts crept in about whether or not she was making everything up or if she was even worthy of him... Such low self esteem for the poor girl! Carmilla held Valfrid's gaze for a few seconds before she looked away, heat rising to her cheeks. He was quite attractive for a Light, even Yvette had to admit. Carmilla felt barely worthy to stand in front of him, holding a conversation. How could such a lowly creature like her be worth him? He knew so much! So many things about fighting and that brand obviously meant he had a high up position somewhere. And she was just a homeless mare who was not worthy of partnership or motherhood. Yvette wanted to curl her lip in disgust at the despair in her own thoughts, but she refrained. She had to follow the path of Carmilla's thought process or she would never get her emotions down genuinely enough. She had to become the mask, as much as possible, without it taking her over. Luckily Carmilla was so polar opposite of Yvette's personality that it was very unlikely to happen. Still, it was something she had to keep in mind. After this meeting I'm going to find someone to spar with... She needed to wash herself of this feigned helplessness. She was beta and sister to a Helkaer, a cambion, daughter of the Underworld, master spy and assassin, and mother to her own army. Somewhere down the line, it would feel so good to reveal all of these facts to a horrified Valfrid. 'I know you're strong because you've come this far without giving up,' Yvette's gaze shyly met Valfrid's again as he said this, her eyes still full of tears, her lip jutting out just slightly in a pout. 'I can't pretend to know what you went through and how it felt, but I know it took a hell of a lot of strength and courage. And I think you should stop underestimating yourself, Carmilla. You've got so much potential!' he said to her. It was incredible just how charming he was. So supportive, so encouraging! Yvette could see how this technique worked. She made a note to adopt it into her own repertoire. He truly thought she had potential did he? That she was so strong? She wondered if her skills were showing through too much and also made a note to dial it back a bit. Something could be said for natural talent and fast learning, but if she showed too much, he might get suspicious. 'I apologize for being so mysterious,' he said to her then. His muzzle bumped against his chest, against that vile Versai brand. 'This is the marking of the Versai. Have you heard of them?' Yvette had to bite her tongue to tone down her excitement. He was a Versai. Not just associated with them. He was one of them now. 'My mother, Allocen, has retired since our last meeting, and I took her place amongst the Versai since I was her heir. I now rule over our home, Lyrarcor, and am a Druid in the Versai.' He explained to her. Allocen was his mother? She'd been the former High Priestess. Yvette couldn't wait to get home and inform her sister of the target that she'd chosen. What a perfect prize. Valfrid of the Versai. If Yvette could create cambion children with him as a father... Oh perhaps some would call him unworthy to be a father, a lowly Versai with weak blood, but Yvette could only imagine the inner turmoil it would create if he had children with a cambion mare who had ties to the Helkaer. Children that could be used as leverage if need be, children that would be raised to hate him and destroy him... If the act of creation itself didn't destroy him first. The laugh was building in her throat but she choked it down. Later, later. "You're always so kind to me," she murmured, her gaze drifting toward the ground again now that he'd finished speaking. Carmilla felt chastened and a little guilty for getting so upset with Valfrid. He certainly was talking about his identity now, wasn't he? "I'll... I'll try to believe in myself more," she said and then looked up at him again, flashing her best, most pure and innocent smile. It was dazzling, a work of art. The smile faded slightly as she tried to think of if she'd heard of a Versai before. "I might have heard of them? I don't really remember," she confessed, "I don't really get into the politics here. I just stay in the Free lands and keep out of it all. It all seems so complicated." Valfrid would have to explain it from the top. "That's... really cool though. Your own lands and everything. So much responsibility," she gave a bit of a nervous laugh, as if trying to imagine how she'd own lands herself. "What does a Versai do?" She asked. Yvette was chomping at the bit to hear it in Valfrid's words. It might be difficult to tamper her reaction, but she had no choice. timeline after she lets the dark woods gang go, after the dark coronation, murmur is 1 year or so tag fleabittengray with Xovad/Valfrid notes aaaaaaaa

And a fox somewhere is hiding That light I thought was blinding brought me here
He was going to feel disgusted with himself, once the truth about Carmilla came to light. He didn't even realize that she was a Cambion, since the Helkaer aligned mare had easily hidden the mark. He did not even think to look for one. Did that make him stupid, foolish, even, to trust someone so blindly? He had always been taught to be cautious, liars were everywhere, but Carmilla had never once given him reason to suspect her of anything other than innocence. She had been through a hard time, to his knowledge, but oh, how little he knew about her true nature! Instead of suspicions and hostility, he was giving her warm smiles and words of encouragement. Her gaze was soft and wavering, averting away from his red eyes, and he did not try to force her violent gaze to meet his own. He would not force her to do anything. That went completely against his nature.
When Carmilla did finally look at him again, her eyes were full of tears. He offered another kind smile, full of warmth and understanding - as much as he could understand of her situation, at least. He had not been through the things she had experienced, but he did understand trauma to an extent. He'd been through his own traumas at the hands of his father, Vyreth. He did not see any recognition, either to his mother's name or to the Versai in general, so he did not think that Carmilla really understood what the Sisterhood was. Maybe she would be willing to come visit him in the Highlands one day. That would be fun. She could meet his family! Maybe it would help her gain confidence to make some more friends.
"You're always so kind to me," Her gaze shifted back to the ground and Xovad chuckled a little, sheepish but kind. "I see no reason to be cruel," he stated simply, for to him, it was the truth. He did not know that she was an enemy - not yet, at least. "I'll... I'll try to believe in myself more," Slowly, she looked back up at him and his smile widened. "That's the spirit!" He was so encouraging, so warm and gentle and kind. It was little wonder a mare like Carmilla would be comfortable around him. "I might have heard of them? I don't really remember, I don't really get into the politics here. I just stay in the Free lands and keep out of it all. It all seems so complicated." He wished he could do that same. Just... not get involved in the politics that ruled the realm. Be carefree and happy. Not worry so damn much about, well. About everything.
"Complicated doesn't even begin to cover it," he murmured, soft and honest. "That's... really cool though. Your own lands and everything. So much responsibility," A nervous laugh followed by more words as she asked, "What does a Versai do?" An expected question, and one he wished he had a specific answer to. Oh, well. He would do his best to explain. "The Versai is made up of three horses. Myself and two other mares - Luna is our High Priestess and Ollie is the Acharya. We do our best to work together and be... sort of guardians of Wild Equines, is what we're aiming for. We all agree we want to make a good, positive change in the world. Make this place safer for all, regardless of alliance. The Versai..." he trailed off a little, frowning slightly. "Kinda has a... troubled past, I guess you could say. My mom and Ollie's mom, who were Versai before us, made some pretty serious mistakes. And now we, the new generation, are trying to rebuild a better name for ourselves. It's a slow work in progress but I have faith we can do it."

yvette How would Valfrid answer her question? Would he delve into the complicated history of the Versai or would he water it down for poor, innocent Carmilla? She was curious to see if he tried to spare her feelings or if he told her the truth. And what was the truth, for him? Did he see what the Versai had done as crimes or did he have a different opinion? Personally, Yvette found the Versai amusing. Light extremists who tried to make the world a better place by being just as bad as the Darks they claimed to fight. In a roundabout way, they were responsible for her daughter, as Xerxes' murder had given him his position as Lord of the Underworld, a position that made him worthy of fathering her firstborn. Telling him that was going to feel so, so sweet. But not yet. Not until she was expecting a child by him. She could be patient. Once he started to succumb to the cambion disease, however, the game would be up. Unless he somehow had another encounter with a cambion soon after their coupling, he would know what Carmilla really was. She would have to get the timing of her cycles down just right so it wouldn't take too many tries. It was a struggle to keep her facial expression neutral, but she just managed it, catching herself before her smile turned to a smirk. 'I see no reason to be cruel,' he said to her. She gave a short laugh, which Valfrid would likely interpret as nervousness or perhaps gratitude. For Yvette, however, it was more of a scoff. 'That's the spirit!' he said to her. Oh, yes, Carmilla would start believing in herself more. But it had to be gradual. Too quickly and he would get suspicious. It was such a delicate balancing act. Yvette did not intend to fail, of course, but if she did, it would not be the end of the world. There were always other targets for spywork and she didn't always have to be the spy, either. She had a diverse set of skills. She enjoyed outright destruction and chaos as much as spying. 'Complicated doesn't even begin to cover it,' he murmured to her and she raised a brow in question. Complicated how? Oh she couldn't wait to hear him explain it. 'The Versai is made up of three horses. Myself and two other mares - Luna is our High Priestess and Ollie is the Acharya. We do our best to work together and be... sort of guardians of Wild Equines, is what we're aiming for.' It was at this point that Yvette had to bite her tongue to keep from laughing. She continued to squeeze on it as Valfrid continued to speak. 'We all agree we want to make a good, positive change in the world. Make this place safer for all, regardless of alliance. The Versai...' A safer place for all, huh? She had to be careful not to bite hard enough to make her eyes water. 'Kinda has a... troubled past, I guess you could say. My mom and Ollie's mom, who were Versai before us, made some pretty serious mistakes. And now we, the new generation, are trying to rebuild a better name for ourselves. It's a slow work in progress but I have faith we can do it,' he finished. Well, Yvette had to say that she was more impressed than she thought. She figured it was about a fifty fifty shot that Valfrid would tell Carmilla the truth about the Versai's past. Now "pretty serious mistakes" didn't tell Carmilla that the Versai had committed murder, but it was better than glossing over everything and pretending it hadn't happened. She had to give him points for that. Such an honest boy. "That sounds like a hard job," she said after a few moments of thinking. It would appear that Carmilla was taking the time to think of a response, but in truth, Yvette was trying to pull herself back into Carmilla's personality after struggling not to laugh at Valfrid's explanation. "Even without the mistakes that were made. Being guardians of this entire place and making it safer..." she trailed off. The world would have been safer without horses like her mate, who'd left her pregnant and alone. Would the Versai have helped her with that kind of a situation? "Would... Would the Versai have helped me with my mate?" she asked, her tone quiet. Was that what the Versai were aiming for now? timeline after she lets the dark woods gang go, after the dark coronation, murmur is 1 year or so tag fleabittengray with Xovad/Valfrid notes aaaaaaaa continues

And a fox somewhere is hiding That light I thought was blinding brought me here
Such a timid maiden she was! Xovad hoped he could help her gain a bit of confidence in herself. He knew once he'd learned more and more how to fight and defend himself, he, personally, had gained confidence. He hoped the same would go for Carmilla. She had already come a long way from when he'd first met her, though he could tell she still had a lot of work to put in before she became as easily confident as, say, Xovad himself. The Versai Brother had faith in the young woman, however. He had faith that she was going to become a good friend of his, too. He already considered her a friend, the poor bastard. He had not a single clue that she was being devious. Was it his own, deep longing for connection and friendship outside of the Sisterhood that had him trusting so easily, or was "Carmilla" really just that good at her job? Perhaps, if things were better with Nixi, and the Versai as a whole were not so desperate for allies of any sort, he would not have been so quick to judge her as innocent. It was too late now, however. Xovad was in too deep, and there would be no way out of this mess without getting hurt one way or another.
Her short bit of laughter as he spoke did not cause any stirring of suspicion within him. He figured she was just in disbelief, since she seemingly thought so poorly of herself. It was heartbreaking, really, just how dismal and sad that mare presented herself as. At least she listened as he spoke of the Versai, hinting at their troubled past and explaining how he and the two other Versai members wanted to make a change for the better. If she asked questions about what his mother and Eos had done, he would tell her. He wasn't going to lie and keep secrets, especially about easily found out history in Wild Equines. His mother was woven into much of the history of the lands, after serving the Versai for so many years.
Carmilla was quiet for several minutes after he'd given his little explanation about the Sisterhood. He did not press her for a response. He knew it was a lot to take in. Finally, though, she began to speak. "That sounds like a hard job," He nodded, confirming that it was a hard job, but he was still smiling at her, because it was moments like this where it felt like the job was also rewarding. Making him be able to help others. "Even without the mistakes that were made. Being guardians of this entire place and making it safer..." She trailed off and in that moment of silence, Xovad spoke. "That's what we truly want. Peace in the lands. To be a light in all the darkness that happens." It sounded so noble. He could only hope that she thought the same.
"Would... Would the Versai have helped me with my mate?" His red gaze softened as he looked upon her. "Of course, Carmilla. We would have helped in whatever way possible." Another pause from him before his smile grew, affectionate and fond. "I'd still like to help, with whatever you need. Not only as a Versai Brother, but as a friend."

yvette There was already so much information for her to bring back from this encounter and it had barely started. They had not even started training yet! It had truly been a blessing for them to have met at that single's event. Yvette still couldn't believe her luck. The first time she had gone to such an event, it had been a disappointment. Sure, she had brought a stallion home with her, but their activities had resulted in nothing, and he had disappeared one day and had never come back. She had not been that attached to him, so her efforts to locate him had been lackluster. She could not say she had made a mistake for that, either. Xerxes was a far better and more worthy candidate for her firstborn. It would only be another year before their child was unleashed upon the world. Still, Yvette gave herself a mental shake to focus back on the conversation at hand. She couldn't afford to get distracted now, not when this was an important emotional moment and she was learning so much about the Versai's "new" strategies. 'That's what we truly want. Peace in the lands. To be a light in all the darkness that happens,' Valfrid said. Yvette managed a nod, covering up the laugh that she wanted to make instead. Peace? Peace was a ridiculous concept. There would never be peace. It was much better to revel in the chaos, to thrive in that. His gaze softened as she posed her question. Would the Versai have helped her? Did they want to be come a refuge for battered and beaten souls? 'Of course, Carmilla. We would have helped in whatever way possible,' he said. Yvette immediately wanted to ask if that meant murdering her mate, but she - of course - held her tongue. Perhaps that was something she could taunt him with later, once the truth was fully revealed. She nodded again, biting her tongue so that her eyes watered with tears. Valfrid was such a sweet, kind soul, with his Versai brethren, helping out lost souls like herself. Maybe if she had met him earlier, she wouldn't have gotten into such a mess. 'I'd still like to help, with whatever you need. Not only as a Versai Brother, but as a friend,' he said to her again. She looked at him with her misted eyes, so sweet, so innocent. "You've already helped me so much," she murmured, shifting slightly in place to convey awkwardness, her gaze dropping at she spoke. "I wish..." she started, biting her lip, and then looking back up at him, into his red red eyes. "I wish I would have met you sooner. Maybe this entire mess wouldn't have happened... Maybe..." she trailed off again, as if embarrassed. Maybe the two of them could have been a couple instead. But was someone like Valfrid interested in someone like her? Yvette had to weigh her options, wondering if she could lay on the sweet innocent girl with a crush act harder or if she should back off for now. Probably best to back off. It was more likely that Valfrid might think he was taking advantage of her if she tried to make a move now, and if he thought that, he would probably never do it in the future. "Maybe we should start the next training session," she said again, shuffling a bit more, as if she was aware of her own silliness at having a crush. Perhaps if she played that angle, Valfrid would start seeing her in that way a bit more gradually, gently, and not feel like he was taking advantage of her. timeline after she lets the dark woods gang go, after the dark coronation, murmur is 1 year or so tag fleabittengray with Xovad/Valfrid notes dun dun dunnnn

And a fox somewhere is hiding That light I thought was blinding brought me here
Xovad really was hoping to make a positive change in Wild Equines. He wanted others to look toward the Versai as leaders, those they could go to in times of need and desperation. He didn't want that to just be for the Light alliance, either. Equines of all alliances could need help! Who was he to deny them help just because of their alliance? He didn't want any longer to be labeled as an extremist... not after all that had happened with and to his mother. Allocen was a broken soul now. Xovad could only hope that she would live to see the day the Sisterhood rose to glory, and perhaps a time of peace settled across the entire realm. One could only hope! He wondered if maybe Carmilla would like to come back to Lyrarcor, maybe even live there. His mom could help train her, too! After all, she had done all of his training, and though she was older now, she still had more experience than Xovad did just yet. Plus, he wouldn't mind having her around more often. More permanently. He enjoyed her company, and he really did want to help her.
He noted that her eyes had started to fill with tears - not at all realizing that she was biting her tongue, more than likely wanting to laugh at his stupidity and kindness. He did not mention the tears. He didn't want to embarrass her or something. "You've already helped me so much," Her eyes were so soft, so innocent. It tugged at his heart. Grinning, he neighed, "Well, I'm more than happy to help!" He hoped that he could help her even more, to move on from traumas and hardships. She deserved it. She was pretty and kind - little did he know her true nature - and he thought Carmilla could do very well for herself, if she only gave herself a chance to thrive!
Her gaze dropped, and she was biting her lip as she began to speak again. "I wish..." Xovad's ears perked forward, his head tilting slightly as he listened to her. She looked back up at him, her violet eyes meeting his red, and he smiled at her encouragingly. "I wish I would have met you sooner. Maybe this entire mess wouldn't have happened... Maybe..." She trailed off, and Xovad felt a strange fluttering in his chest, like... like when he was with Nixi. Oh, crap, was his initial thought, but he showed no sign of it, his smile remaining. "Maybe we should start the next training session," She shuffled her feet in the sand and Xovad chuckled, giving a nod. "Let's start with a warm up. How bought some stretches, and then a short run down the beach?"

yvette The training sessions were always a bit difficult for Yvette to manage, because it required her to substantially downgrade her own abilities and act like she didn't know what she was doing. It was hard, to actively disengage her muscle memory. The fact that she had done so so far was a testament to her acting abilities, if she did say so herself. So far, Valfrid had not suspected that she knew more than what she was letting on. To his credit, Valfrid did know what he was doing and despite his Versai origins, she would never pass up an opportunity to learn more of the enemy's secrets. She would take every advantage. It was foolish not to. 'Well, I'm more than happy to help!' he said to her and she smiled again, that shy, tentative smile. Truly a kind soul. "The world would be a better place if there were more like you," she murmured. Saying the words made Yvette cringe inside, but they were true to Carmilla's philosophy and seemingly Valfrid's. He wanted more peace and harmony. It was not an achieveable goal while equines like Yvette and her sister lived. Not while the Helkaer as a whole lived. Even the Dark Kingdom liked to partake in chaos from time to time. How would peace be achieved, unless all equines like herself were wiped out? And going off of that, how could peace-loving equines justify wiping someone else out? It was all contradiction. 'Let's start with a warm up. How bought some stretches, and then a short run down the beach?' he suggested to her and she nodded enthusiastically. A warm up would help Yvette get into character more. Stretches, stretches... What had Valfrid taught Carmilla about stretches? Mostly in the legs and the neck, if she recalled correctly. She started out by bowing deep, doing the stretch with proper form, smiling to herself as if pleased that she had remembered how it went. Then she switched to the next stretch, going side to side, perhaps faster than preferred, but still the correct way. Then to the leg stretches. Her first ones were a little off, but not enough to make it look like she had forgotten them altogether... Just that she was a little rusty after not doing them for a while. "I'm surprised at how much I remember!" she said, giving a delighted laugh, "muscle memory really does work." She stopped with the stretches then, wondering which direction he wanted to go for their run. "Which way did you want to go for the run?" she asked, peering down. It was not overly crowded at this time of day, but some of the beach paths were rougher than others. Maybe they could run close to the water? "Maybe close to the water?" she suggested, gesturing with her nape to emphasize the point. If they did that, perhaps she could flirt with Valfrid by splashing him with water... A stereotypical way to do so, for certain, but there was a reason it was a stereotype. profiletag fleabittengraytimeline after she lets the dark woods gang go, after the dark coronation, murmur is 1 year or so notes >D "Speech"art by amber18db

And a fox somewhere is hiding That light I thought was blinding brought me here
There was no denying that Carmilla was pretty. He had noticed she was pretty right away, but he'd been so caught up with his feelings for Nixi to really dwell on it. But now, spending more time with the mare, it was hard to not focus on it. She was so soft and gentle and kind. She just needed some more confidence! Xovad wanted to help her with that, and he figured that he was, with the sparring and practicing self-defense. He truly did want to help her. Perhaps, being a Versai Brother, he should have realized that he was being tricked, but the woman in question was giving no hints at her malicious intent. How could one who smiled so shyly want to cause him harm? "The world would be a better place if there were more like you," Xovad chuckled, a bit awkward but still kind as he gave a small shrug. "I'm nothing special," he mumbled, his smile goofy and boyish. Xovad didn't want to think too hard on what he was feeling. It was best not to think about it at all.
He watched for a moment as Carmilla began with the stretches, in case he had to correct her position on something, but it seemed she had remembered them well enough. He smiled again, turning his red eyes away from her in order to focus on his own stretching. It would not bode well for him to just stare at her stretching like a dingus. It would probably make her uncomfortable. Don't be a weirdo, he thought to himself as he stretched his own neck and limbs out, making sure that he did the movements in a slow, precise manner. "I'm surprised at how much I remember!" The sound of her laugh, pure delight and happiness, had the Versai smiling broadly. "muscle memory really does work." He hummed, finishing his last stretch and looking back at her. She seemed so pleased with herself. So happy. It was a good look on her.
"It does work! See? I knew you'd remember everything." He grinned encouragingly at her, pawing gently at the sand, almost in a playful manner. "Which way did you want to go for the run?" He followed her gaze, his red eyes lingering on the water for a moment, remember times spent at the beach with Nixi. He missed her. "Maybe close to the water?" Perhaps he just needed to focus on something - someone - else for now. "That sounds like an excellent idea, Carmilla!" he agreed, turning his muscular frame more toward the water. "Away we go!" He gave a wink in the mare's direction and then he was propelling himself forward. Not in an outright sprint, more of a powerful jog. After all, the run was just meant to make sure they were properly warmed up, it wasn't a race or anything.
