Focalor
There wasn't much that Focalor liked about himself, be it his achievements in life (other than his kids? nothing), his looks (almost average), and his personality (some would say a doormat). That made it all the more strange when he felt Vojorn's attention on him, because it felt utterly undeserved. This woman who had accomplished so much already in her life and always got back up again when the world tried to crush her - why exactly did she humor him? Focalor genuinely had no clue. Even her little comment, "Sure it will! It'll be good because it's something you made," had him baffled. Still, he smiled in return, his face with just a permanent red tint to it. Maybe if he kept trying, he could actually become something worth all the time she'd given him. It felt daunting, but he was willing to put the effort in if it was for Vojorn.
At the very least, she was amused by him, agreeing easily to his ideas of what to do. The mention of socializing drew his attention up from his mask briefly to look over the other party-goers. They were beyond recognition in these new forms, not that he even knew anyone before the change. There were several competing for the competition of one particular lady, causing a short-lived frown to grace Focalor's face. He hoped that when they struck out, that they wouldn't move onto Vojorn, but he supposed if that's what she wanted... He shook his head, focusing on his work again.
By the time his mask was finished and he'd earned Vojorn's approval, Focalor had become distracted and no longer worried about the various other men. He brightened as Vojorn made her judgement, "So broody and mysterious," which sounded like a good thing. He'd just the start of a reply when his companion was suddenly very close, her lips pressed against his cheek. It took him a second to process, which was silly given they had several children, but this was still somehow... different? They were in public and not just producing a child, you couldn't get pregnant from a kiss, which meant she'd done it just because she wanted to do it? But Focalor couldn't place what he'd done to earn such a reaction - did she like his mask that much? Was it because he'd made one after all? "Huh. Humans are strange. But that did feel nice,"" was all Vojorn said on the matter and Focalor nodded quickly in agreement, bringing a hand up to his warm cheek in an attempt to pull himself together over such a simple touch. "Yes," he managed to get out, "strange, but nice." He swallowed hard, trying not to be the biggest dork in the world right then.
Fortunately, Vojorn was eager to follow him over to the karaoke, which sat at the edge of the party. A wooden stage sat on the neatly trimmed grass, looking slick, but inviting. Something in his once-horse brain reminded him of ice, but the warning was faded and lost to the magic of the party. He stepped up without hesitation, doing his best to ignore those still dancing, since he was certain he was going to make a fool out of himself, but at least he'd have fun in the process. Vojorn had moved ahead to pick out a song, playing with some sort of screen that seemed just as magical as them changing forms. "What about this one?" she inquired, settling on something called "Mr. Brightside". A twinge of recognition flickered in the back of his head, the same memories that told him he wore a suit and how to eat with a fork, suggested that the song was familiar. "Let's do it," he agreed, moving closer to the microphone and doing everything in his power to not just stare at the strangers around him; the ones definitely about to judge his singing prowess. At least he had a mask on, it'd hide some of the tomato his face was sure to permanently change to from this night.
With Vojorn joining him at the stand, the music began to start. It had a much quicker pace than he expected, but the same mystical memories pushed the recognition to the front of his mind and the words streamed out, unbroken and as though this was not his first time doing karaoke, as a human, at a magic party.
"I'm coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine
Gotta gotta be down because I want it all
It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this?
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss,"
The first few lines had his voice wavering with nerves and he squeezed his eyes shut, trying to steady himself. Honestly, entering a battle was probably less intimidating than getting up to sing like this, but he'd decided to do it and hell, he was going to do it. His voice strengthened as he continued, evening out into a decent rendition, though nothing award-winning. Focalor managed to open his eyes again, turning his sights to Vojorn as she sang alongside him. She seemed a hell of a lot more confident than he was, and also didn't really look like she was judging whenever he missed a note. It earned a smile from Focalor, encouraging him to finally just focus on singing and belting out the oddly familiar song.
"Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies, choking on your alibis
But it's just the price I pay, destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes, I'm Mr. Brightside,"
By the second chorus he'd almost forgotten what exactly he'd been so worried about, now leaning into the music and throwing dramatic poses as he sang, letting himself move freely as he just had fun with it. The other people really didn't matter, just trying to breathe correctly and get the words right and then also enjoying the sound of Vojorn's voice mixing with his own - that was all that mattered.
"I never
I never
I never,"
The last note came far sooner than he wanted and Focalor considered just putting in another song, but he could see others approaching the stage for their turns. He turned to Vojorn with a grin plastered on his face, still catching his breath. The surge from the song had driven some courage into his heart and he eagerly reached for her hand again. "Come on!" he gave a gentle tug, moving off the edge of the stage and onto the grassy field below. Others moved into their spots pretty quickly, but he couldn't spare much attention for them. Bursting with confidence (for once), he lead Vojorn to the edge of where the others were dancing, then stopped to face her. With a smooth motion, he lifted her hand and leaned in to kiss the back of it, then lifting his gaze to meet hers, "Would you care to dance?"
