It had taken ages for her to first convince Leifr to go to the Singles Mingle event, and then even longer for her to convince their family that it would be a good idea to go. She had used the fact that they were adults now, young adults, but still adults! They had every right to go out into the world and start meeting new members of society! While both of them were well aware of the dangers that lurked in the shadows, and sometimes even in bright daylight, Leviticus still chose to see the good in the world. Or try to, anyway. The truth was, she was getting bored of her safe life in Dark Woods. She wanted an adventure! And that was the main reason for her insisting that she and Leifr go to Unclaimed Hearts to meet others. It wasn't so much that she was looking for love, honestly she wasn't all that interested in love right now, but she craved companionship that she could not get from her family. She wanted friends. Surely that wasn't such a bad thing, right? She'd been so excited last night that she couldn't sleep! And of course, that meant that she'd overslept and Leifr had headed out to Unclaimed Hearts before her. Originally, they had planned on going together, but she had not woken up on time and his father (her father figure) had told her that he'd told Leifr to set off on his own and that Leviticus would catch up once she finally woke up. She knew he was doing it to prove a point. If she wasn't responsible enough to wake up on time, then how on earth was she responsible enough to go to a sort of dating event? She'd scrambled to get herself together then, making sure her fleabittengray coat was groomed to perfection and her mane and tail free of tangles. Finally, she'd left Dark Woods, shouting a goodbye to her family over her shoulder and setting off at a quick pace toward the Free Lands. She had just enough time to make it and not be obnoxiously late if she took a short cut through Geysir. The terrain was a little more treacherous but... she'd wanted an adventure, didn't she? All smiles and gleeful humming, Leviticus picked her way between erupting geysers, careful not to let the boiling hot water land on her figure - no one wanted to be burned, did they? Wrinkling her nose at the thought, the young maiden quickened her pace. She had to hurry if she wanted to make it on time. But she also didn't want to ruin her pristine look. The season was finally feeling like it might be coming to an end soon, and the large stallion was looking forward to warmer weather. While he almost blended into a snowy backdrop with his almost entirely white coat, the cold made his burn scars ache as if he had aged a dozen years in a single instant. He was ready to be able to ignore that pain and his injuries again, he just had to hold out for the weather to take a turn.
The temperature had began to rise as the sun climbed higher, but Arcadius still was not satisfied. No, he needed real heat, and he knew just where to find it.
He had smelled sulfur before on his wanderings, and based off previous experience, that usually resulted in some type of hot springs. He had definitely found those warm pools, but they were unlike any he had seen before. Instead, this landscape was void of much life and periodically spewed scalding water into the air. The stallion liked it.
Coming to a stop near a small pool but with enough distance from any of the geysers, Arcadius took a moment to get a better grasp of his surroundings. Most scents here were stale with the exception of one. It was fresh, female, and most likely nearby. A wicked grin crossed his chestnut lips as Arcadius began to hunt. It had been so long since he had had any real fun, and after that strange meeting with Calliope, he wanted to be back to his regularly scheduled programming: reaping chaos.
He heard her before seeing her, and the beast turned his emerald eyes to lock onto a lithe gray figure moving with confidence through the plumes of water. Arcadius tilted his head - making a snap decision before he could let any of Calliope's words filter back into his thoughts.
"Ma'am! Ma'am could you help me?" Arc sounded fearful, nervous, and softened his stance to look uncomfortable. He side stepped closer to a geyser, eyes going wide and a touch wild. All she had to do was get closer, and then he could decide what to do with her.

The warmth of the weather combined with the humidity of Geysir was starting to make her feel sticky. She could see her mane and tail starting to become a bit frizzy and she grumbled, feeling like an idiot for thinking this shortcut would be a good idea. Her humming came to an end as she walked along at a quickened pace, now annoyed with herself rather than her typical cheerful attitude. Why couldn't she just have woken up on time? Why hadn't someone woken her up when they realized she was oversleeping? She felt like such an idiot, convincing her family that it was a good idea for her and Leifr to go to this event only for her to sleep through it! She wanted to scream from how frustrated she was, but instead she settled for pouting and walking just a little faster through the humid terrain. She was determined not to get sidetracked and to make it to Unclaimed Hearts ASAP - but then, of course, fate had other plans. "Ma'am! Ma'am could you help me?" The masculine voice called out to her from nearby and Leviticus snorted, stumbling to a halt as she looked around through the misted atmosphere. It was easy enough to spot the other equine, and she put on a friendly smile as she turned and began to walk toward him, whinny kindly to let him know that she had heard him and was coming to help him with whatever it was that he needed help with. Her blue eyes were curious, if a bit wary, but not fearful. This man did not fit the description of Charm, who she had been warned about all throughout her life, so she figured she would be safe enough to approach him so long as she was careful. "Hi there!" she greeted the stranger, giving a bob of her head as she got closer, tilting her head at him as she surveyed his bodice. He didn't look hurt. Was he lost? What did he need help with, she wondered, and was this going to make her miss the event entirely? However, Leviticus was a kind soul, and she couldn't just let this brute be alone when he obviously needed help with something! His eyes were wild and he looked... uncomfortable, perhaps, was the word to use? She wasn't sure, but she was worried now. "Are you alright, Sir? How can I help you? I'm Leviticus!"Tagged: illɘgal Words: 407 Character: LeviticusNotes: Sorry for the wait! <3 Timeline: 4 years 2 months, late winter, mid-day?, during the Singles Mingle event

The beast watched the small mare come to a screeching halt as he called out, deep satisfaction rolling through him. She looked so young, so small. So innocent. Ivy colored depths remained wide as he sent out a shrill whistle in response to her call. His wide legged stance was making the burns pull tight, and when he adjusted to get more comfortable, his stumble away from the plume of water was intentional. Arcadius glanced about, his gaze bouncing between the friendly face and the hot water that periodically shot up nearby. Internally, the stallion's gears were turning with a ferocity he hadn't felt in years. All the things he could do to this poor, unfortunate soul.
Hi there! He was finally able to turn and lock eyes with aquamarine ones that looked back with such youthful curiosity. A strained half smile pulled at his lips and Arcadius shuffled his hooves nervously, H-hello. His words were nearly a whisper, uncertainty painted across his features. He blinked, seeming to bring himself back to the present and focus on the mare in front of him. Are you alright, Sir? How can I help you? I'm Leviticus! The ivory beast forced a more genuine smile as he was able to hold eye contact. I am Haven. I-I'm sorry. I must have gotten lost, and these.. geysers remind me of my injury when I was young, he gestured to his heavy burns. I'm not even sure where I am or how far from home I've managed to wander.
He nervously danced around another spout, skittering closer to the gray fem with eyes that were again wide with mild panic. Could you possibly help me get home, Leviticus? Or, he diverted his gaze to the empty earth at their feet. At least point me in the right direction?

She wasn't as skeptical as she probably should have been, especially considering all she had been told about the big, bad world. However, Leviticus was more carefree and trusting than her family would have liked. She was quick to make friends everywhere she went, a skill that not everyone had that she had been gifted with. She was cheerful and bright eyed, with a smile that could light up the whole land. She liked to chat with strangers and find new friendships. So long as no one judged her for the skull marking on the left side of her rump. She'd met some that recognized the marking as marking her as a daughter of Toxic, the former Helkaer who was no longer around, yet still - they judged her for it, just for being related to him. Little did the know the circumstances of her conception. Leviticus did not know all of the details, but she knew that she was damn lucky to have been readily adopted by Hearty. So when the older stallion gave a strained smile, Leviticus could not help but feel like she had to do something. Anything. She couldn't leave this poor guy alone, not when he was so clearly in some sort of trouble. H-hello. He spoke so softly, so quietly, that she had to strain to hear him, ears aimed forward toward the stallion. I am Haven. I-I'm sorry. I must have gotten lost, and these.. geysers remind me of my injury when I was young, Haven gestured toward the gruesome burn scars that were dashed across his bodice. She frowned then, trying not to state. "I see..." she trailed off, a little awkwardly. I'm not even sure where I am or how far from home I've managed to wander. So he was lost away from home, unable to find his way back. This may take longer than she thought. Could you possibly help me get home, Leviticus? Or, He asked her, nervously dancing around the geyser, coming closer to her but she thought nothing of it. At least point me in the right direction? She had two options. Bring the man home herself, or just point him in the right direction and hope for the best. She chewed at her lip and then let out a soft sigh. "Sure, I'll help you get home," she said, trying not to sound reluctant. Hopefully, she would still have time to get back here to the Free Lands to get to the mingling event in Unclaimed Hearts. If the Draft stallion was any other man, he might have felt bad for the dainty creature. Instead, there was a softness about her that the beast just wanted to destroy. How could she be so naive to be out by herself? Whoever was supposed to be protecting her was clearing failing to do so, and the white beast knew it was a chance for him to teach the girl a lesson - that she needed to choose her protectors wisely. Her family definitely didn't warn her well enough about strangers, which was another lesson he could teach her. This was about to be far easier than Arc thought it would be.
He was watching her try not avert her gaze from the scars that he wore proudly. Though he had told Leviticus that they were from other geysers, if she knew what she was looking at, she could see the slices through them caused by the lick of flames, not scalding hot liquid. But, he had no intent to correct her. When she thought about the prospect of helping him, Arc continued to move nervously as another geyser went off nearby. His emerald gaze widened again and he stared at the pillar of water as it shot high into the air. A soft whine pushed past his lips before the sigh escaped the mare's. Sure, I'll help you get home. What Kingdom do you live in? I know the Neutral Kingdom best, since that's where I live, but... I can help you find the Light or Dark Kingdoms too! For a heartbeat, savage delight rolled through Arcadius as he remained looking uncomfortable. Where would he take her? It could be anywhere. There was one place he had heard about in the Dark Kingdom that he thought would be perfect for him to begin his teachings.
The smile across his chestnut lips widened in relief, Oh, thank you, Leviticus, thank you! The Dark Kingdom, I know that much. I only recently had found a home, the name should come back to me when I'm not full of panic. The strained laugh was borderline manic as he shifted closer and shuffled away from one of the mounds in the ground. Once we get closer, I should be able to recognize where I am and then you can be on your way! I will forever be in your debt!

All of her life she and her brother had been warned about Charm and others like him, but Leviticus stilled remained naïve. This scarred beast did not strike her as someone who was cruel like Charm was. He looked so scared right now, staring at the geyser as they erupted as if he expected them to dose him in boiling water despite the distance he kept from them. It was sad. She wanted to help him. She wondered if the Vigilum would he able to help him at all. They were supposed to be healers - did that include healers of the mind, too? Like therapy? Like Fan tried to do with her mother? She wondered if Fan would be able to do anything to help this stranger, too, but rethought her offer because if Fan found out about this... she was never going to be allowed to leave Dark Woods again. Yet the look of relief that passed across Haven's face when she agreed to lead the way home was worth it. She had always been taught to be helpful and polite... this had to be the right thing to do. Just look at the way he was smiling! Oh, thank you, Leviticus, thank you! The Dark Kingdom, I know that much. I only recently had found a home, the name should come back to me when I'm not full of panic. Oh. Dark Kingdom. The very same Kingdom that Charm was a part of. She doubted herself for a second, hesitating, but eventually nodded. "Dark Kingdom it is, then!" she said, trying to sound chipper and cheerful and not anxious like she was feeling. She didn't like the sound of his laugh, but figured it was due to his own anxiety about the geysers. Once we get closer, I should be able to recognize where I am and then you can be on your way! I will forever be in your debt! Despite her guy starting to tell her to change her mind and not go with him, Leviticus motioned off toward the direction she knew was toward the Dark Kingdom. "Off we go, then!" she announced, grinning, turning her bodice to begin her trek toward the Kingdom she had been warned against all of her life. The beast watched the dainty mare with barely concealed intensity at his mention of the Dark Kingdom. She almost looked unsure of herself, and the Draft mentally prepared himself for a chase. He was much larger and heavier than the lithe fem, but he had little self doubt about catching her. If anything, the chase would be worth it. Dark Kingdom it is, then! Leviticus's tone almost sounded forced, but Arcadius knew that he had her. If she was suspicious enough, she would have tried to escape his presence. Instead, the stallion thought about the different ways that he could teach her to take better care of strangers.
Off we go, then! His lips pulled into a matching grin as the pair began to watch, trying to remember the details of the dangerous land he had been told about that was controlled by an equally savage beast. They had not had the pleasure to meet, but perhaps Arcadius could use the mare as a way to bridge an alliance. He didn't actually have a home yet, but it never hurt to have allies in high places. What was the brute's name? Carnallust. Yes. The Whore House would be the perfect place to lure Leviticus. He intended to check up on her occasionally as well, to see how well she was taking the lesson he was so kindly bestowing onto her.
He let his thoughts wander for a little while, and decided that silence would do them no good in this hike. I really do appreciate this, Leviticus. I'm sure you had other responsibilities today, and hopefully this doesn't take up too much of your time, his grateful tone had purposefully softened to be free of panic. I thought I would eventually find my own way home, but those geysers seemed to scare the sense out of me. As they walked, the ivory and bronze stallion thought back to the description he had been told about by an annoying buckskin beast that he hoped he would never see again. I honestly still can't remember the name, but it's on the edge of the Dark kingdom. Thick forest, sometimes it gets misty. The path isn't hard to find though once we get there!
When they did indeed reach the edge of the dark forest, his emerald eyes were bright with excitement. This is it! My brother would love to meet you so he could thank you himself! I can make sure he gives you a gift! Arc reached out to nudge her playfully on the shoulder and cheerfully strode forward onto the thin path through the dense trunks. He knew what was lurking in the dark, and purposefully lengthened his stride to pull away from Leviticus after a few moments. After taking a sharp turn, he continued through the brush and paused behind a thicker trunk and waiting to be approached. It took only a heartbeat before an equine silently sidled up to the large stag, green eyes locking onto seemingly black depths. His gaze darkened and chestnut lips slipping into a savage grin.
Please, inform Charm that I have brought him a gift.

Something in her gut was telling her to run away, to not let this man get her to wherever it was he was trying to get her. However, she had already agreed to helping him get home, and Leviticus was too polite to suddenly change her mind. Plus, she was terrible at lying. She had been raised to be honest and polite and kind. How was she supposed to just up and leave this guy alone? What if he really was scared, and not just pretending? She was confused and torn about making a decision, so instead of making up some excuse to get away, she just went along with it. They walked in silence at first, Leviticus leading the way, and she had such a strange feeling. Like she was being stalked by the stranger. But Haven had been nothing but polite to her... she honestly felt bad for being so suspicious of him... Did that make her a bad person? I really do appreciate this, Leviticus. I'm sure you had other responsibilities today, and hopefully this doesn't take up too much of your time, She spooked slightly when Haven spoke, having been lost in her own thoughts, and she laughed, the sound nervous and shaky. "Oh, it's no problem at all! I got plenty of time!" Why didn't she tell him she was supposed to meet her brother somewhere? Why didn't she use that as an excuse to turn around and head to the mingling event? I thought I would eventually find my own way home, but those geysers seemed to scare the sense out of me.She noticed that he didn't sound so scared anymore and she turned her head to smile sheepishly at him. "Hey, no worries! Everyone is scared of something, right?" Like she was scared of the man she had been told stories about all her life. Warned about since she was a little girl... And now she was heading toward the Kingdom he lived in. She was terrified, honestly, but thought she was hiding it decently well. I honestly still can't remember the name, but it's on the edge of the Dark kingdom. Thick forest, sometimes it gets misty. The path isn't hard to find though once we get there! Thick, misty forest... That could be anywhere in the Dark Kingdom! It certainly didn't exclude The Whore House at all... Feeling more and more unsettled the closer they got to the border of the Dark Kingdom, Leviticus struggled to keep a smile on her face as her heart thudded rapidly in her chest. Something wasn't right... Another bit of silence as they neared a forest that gave her chills. She looked up at the trees, gulping slightly, and then Haven was pulling ahead of her. This is it! My brother would love to meet you so he could thank you himself! I can make sure he gives you a gift! His brother? He sounded so excited... But she was curious about a gift... What kind of gift might it be? Biting her lip, doubt filling her, but still too curious to turn back now, she shuffled along after Haven after he'd nudged her shoulder. He hurried along ahead of her... probably excited... but being alone in these woods was making her feel claustrophobic... "Haven, wait up!" she called out, a slight waver to her words, showing how unsettled she felt in the moment. When she finally caught up to Haven, there was another large equine standing there. Leviticus halted abruptly, eyes wide, a chill going down her spine as the large beast looked at her, smiled wolfishly, and then turned away from Haven. Leviticus's stomach churned nervously. "Was... that your brother...?" she asked suspiciously, keeping her distance now from Haven, eyes still on the disappearing form of the mysterious stranger that was slowly disappearing into the darkness of the trees. If the white beast had had the capacity, perhaps he would have felt a little guilty for luring this young, unsuspecting mare into Charm's grasp. Arc didn't miss her nervous laughter during their walk, wondering if she had an idea what was about to happen or if Leviticus was just naturally a little flighty. As Arcadius followed the gray fem to her doom, he watched her body language shift into uncertainty and fear with mild curiosity. If she was so nervous, why hadn't she just left him? Or ran off? Her kindness would be her demise, and Arc couldn't wait to teach her that important lesson.
Haven, wait up! As her pulled away from her in the forest, the fear began to ebb into her words. As he searched for a spot to meet one of the hidden guards, he couldn't help the smirk that crossed his chestnut lips. Arc wasn't surprised that Leviticus managed to catch up with him fairly quickly, not even concerned if she had heard his statement to the shadowy equine. She wisely kept her distance this time as the guard silently departed, Was... that your brother...? Emerald eyes softened at the edges, the beast taking a few slow steps closer. No, but he is going to get him. He shouldn't be long, and should bring the gift with him! His voice was light and excited again as he came to a stop. I was hoping the mist would thin out, it sort of looks spooky when it's like this. His expression was almost one of exasperation as he rolled his eyes. Come, let's go wait on the path where it feels a little less creepy. Maybe that will help you relax, because you almost look like me around those geysers.
Arcadius held her gaze for a moment then stepped back around the bush to walk between a few trees. The path was back into view, the forest thinning enough so that it would be easier for Leviticus to see anyone approaching. Of course, by then it would be too late. But maybe she could breathe a little easier for a few more precious moments. He looked back to her with a half smile that was actually genuine. This is a much better place to wait, Leviticus. The beast shifted his weight to tilt a hoof as excitement and anticipation shot through him. He had never met Charm, but looked forward to a potential alliance with the creature. Or at least the ability to access the enterprise he had built here.

Paranoia was setting in now. The mist of the land was closing in on her, making it harder to steady her breathing. Leviticus felt weak in the knees, wanted to turn tail and book it back to Dark Woods. She wouldn't even bother going to Unclaimed Hearts to find her brother. No, this kind of fear warranted her returning home without looking over her shoulder. This was a gut feeling telling her that something was wrong. Very, very wrong. And yet, her polite nature was making it impossible for her to just turn around and leave. She kept hesitating, weight shifting from hoof to hoof as she eyed the swirling mist in the woods and then turned her gaze back upon Haven. She chewed at her lower lip, rolling it between her teeth without realizing what she was doing. No, but he is going to get him. He shouldn't be long, and should bring the gift with him! Haven took a few steps closer toward her and for once, Leviticus tensed, though she managed to relax just seconds afterward. I was hoping the mist would thin out, it sort of looks spooky when it's like this. A somewhat panicked laugh left the young mare. "Heh. Yeah. Spooky."Swallowing down her fear and looking around, Leviticus twitched her ears in the direction of Haven as he spoke again. Come, let's go wait on the path where it feels a little less creepy. Maybe that will help you relax, because you almost look like me around those geysers. She looked back at him, meeting his gaze, and she wondered if he could see her panic, her fear. She didn't like this place. She shouldn't be here. Still, she followed Haven back toward the path - yet even that did not help to relax her. The blue-eyed young mare kept looking around, as if expecting someone to leap out of the darkness and attack her. This is a much better place to wait, Leviticus. Hearing him say her name sent a chill through her, but it was nothing compared to hearing the sinister chuckle from somewhere in the mist. Leviticus spooked, jumping forward a step and stumbling as she whipped her head around, trying to figure out where the laugh had come from. "Leviticus... now that name sounds familiar..." The voice was unfamiliar to her, but she knew, she knew, who it was the second she heard it. Her stomach dropped, her heart stopped beating, her breathing stopped. All she could do was stand there and shake as from the misted woods emerged the very Shire that she had been warned about all of her life. Tears immediately came to her eyes - tears of fear and frustration. "H-Haven?" she stuttered, taking a few frantic, clumsy steps backward. "Are you sure this is your brother?" Please, let it be anyone else but him! She wanted to scream, but she could hardly raise her voice above that of a hoarse whisper. Terror unlike any she'd ever felt coursed through her. The beast watched her body react to his approach with interest, thinking that maybe the the silvery was finally becoming aware of the gravity of the situation. Her laugh exposed how she was really feeling inside, and Arcadius bit back the wicked curve that threatened to erupt across his maw. Despite those blue, blue eyes reflecting her distress, the lithe mare followed the two toned stallion back towards the sparse space in the forest. He could have sworn that the fog was thickening around them, and the feeling of eyes made his pelt crawl as he kept an emerald eye on Levi. If he thought she was flighty before, the mare looked like she was ready to bolt if she saw a single leaf fall from a branch.
Instead, her body clumsily shifted forward in her fright at the chuckle that snaked through the trees. This time, Arc allowed his lips to pull back as he moved to lean against a nearby tree. Leviticus... now that name sounds familiar... That snakeskin green gaze were locked on the fem's every movement with amusement. Her frantic words and jerky steps reminded him of a snared rabbit trying to escape the inevitable. H-Haven? Are you sure this is your brother? A soft huff finally came from the Draft as he pushed off the tree and began a slow, slow stroll towards Leviticus. Brother is a... strong word.
Gone was the youthful tone in his voice, his own false fear a distant memory. Now, his tone deepened as the curve of his bronze lips became sharper. He finally pulled that now intense stare towards the heavier built Draft. I would like to propose a trade, he tilted his crown towards his shaking companion. You may do what you wish with the wee lamb. I would like us to be... Well, as she said. Brothers of some sort. An alliance. He looked back to the dainty thing. It's just business, Leviticus. Don't take it too personally. Perhaps next time, he stalked forward. You should be selfish instead of trusting strangers.

She had been tricked. She knew that now, and she also knew there was no escape. She had been warned all her life to stay away from this place, from this man, and now here he was, standing before her surrounded by mist with an amused smirk on his face. She tried to will her legs to work so that she could flee back to safety, or try to, anyway, but the terror had her frozen to the spot. Had Haven known who she was? Had this been planned? She tried to swallow down the lump forming in her throat as Charm took a step closer to her. She squeal, reeling backwards and bumping into a tree, her reaction causing the Shire to snort out a laugh. She could feel both men eying her, and it made her feel sick to her stomach. Black and green sets of eyes just watching her every move, amused by her fear. There was no remorse within either of those eyes. She began to cry, silently, tears rolling down her cheeks. She knew better than to beg for her life, for her safety, because Charm would just use it against her. She tried to shrink back further against the tree as the tears blurred her vision. Brother is a... strong word. Haven spoke, casually strolling toward her, and Leviticus sniffled, voice wavering. "You tricked me!" She figured he would laugh at her distraught words. She wished she was stronger, bigger, and able to fight her way out of this. Right now, her best bet was to just... pray. Maybe Rasa would hear her and help her. Maybe Utopia would save her. If they could even hear her, in a place like this. I would like to propose a trade, Her stomach dropped as Haven addressed Charm, who turned his attention to the other brute, though his ear was still turned toward her. She dared not make a break for it. You may do what you wish with the wee lamb. I would like us to be... Well, as she said. Brothers of some sort. An alliance. Her freedom. He was trading her freedom. She whimpered softly, legs shaking so much they could barely hold her up. It's just business, Leviticus. Don't take it too personally. Perhaps next time, You should be selfish instead of trusting strangers. He stalked toward her and she wanted to scream. Or spit in his face, but she was much too polite for that. "An alliance, eh?" Charm was speaking, watching the two of them interact. Leviticus's eyes darted from man to man, wide and full of horror. "Could always use another ally." And then the Shire grinned at her, and Leviticus felt she might faint from the fear. "I accept your offer - so long as you give me a name to call you, my friend." He chuckled and Leviticus pinned her ears back. Wasn't... wasn't his name Haven? Or had he lied about that as well?
