You'll never know what hit you
Femiet Beach: a section of the Free Lands that was typically crowded, especially in the summertime when the ocean was nice and warm, but ever since the war, the crowds had become less and less. Coming here now, mid-afternoon in the middle of autumn, Xovad felt like he was walking through a ghost town. The wide expanse of sand was virtually empty, aside from a few stragglers. The only difference now was that everyone was avoiding everybody else. There weren't as many interactions anymore. Xovad missed the days of interactions before the war. Before you had to be overly suspicious of every stranger that you met. Nowadays, you never knew who to trust, especially if they were a stranger. Anyone could be aligned with the enemy, even those you didn't think of... Traveling the Free Lands was more nerve-racking than relaxing these days. He hoped one day that things would go back to normal but today was not that day.
A quiet, contemplative sigh left the stallion's nares as he walked along the shoreline, just out of reach of the water but close enough to it that the sand was still slightly damp from high tide. He liked being at the beach. It reminded him, of course, of Nixi. He hoped she was alright. He had not seen her since the start of the war, when he'd received Rasa's Vision and gone to warn her. The conversation had been brief, but it had been enough time to warn her and allow the Light Kingdom to prepare themselves. Gods, he hoped it had been enough to keep them safe... to keep her safe... He loved her so much it hurt, and he was trying so hard to prove to her that he was worth it. That he wouldn't hurt her or the Light Kingdom or Wild Equines as a whole like his mother had. He would not make Allocen's mistakes...
Head lowering to sniff wearily at the damp sand, the Versai Brother kept his ears on a constant swivel, listening up for any commotion. Perhaps, if he tried hard enough today, he could somehow claim Femiet Beach for the Utopian side - so that it could, at least, be safe for the Utopian allies to travel within, without much worry of being attacked. Was something like that even possible? He supposed he wouldn't know unless he tried.

The wraith woke before the sun, as was becoming her routine. It gave her some peace before the little hellions arose and began to eat away at what little patience she had. But today? She planned to venture from her land again and took her time quietly bathing. She had a different plan in mind for her little adventure, and carefully ensured her mane would hang over the flame that was etched into her withers. Few people knew her before she joined the Brotherhood, and she was going to use it to her advantage. As the soft noises of the children began to echo in the caves, the Helkaer made her way above ground. A lone guard was grazing in view of the hidden entrance but not close enough to draw the attention of any unwanted visitors to its location. She paused, magenta eyes narrowing as he dipped his head low. The wraith said nothing as she glared for another moment and continued on. As the private crossed her borders and made her way towards the Freelands, she extended her gait to keep her muscles loose. Harlan wasn't entirely sure where she was going, she just knew she needed a change of scenery and someone to torture. The war must be keeping everyone home because as the dappled mare moved smoothly along worn paths, there weren't any many equines across the landscape. They must all be afraid. How sad. Shaking her head, Harlan continued through the morning, slowly meandering as the hours ticked by. Growing more and more bored, the vixen reached the far edges, her hooves sinking into damp sand. A frustrated sigh pushed through the Helkaer's nares as she turned to walk along the edge of the water. If she was that type of mare, it would have been a beautiful day. When Harlan had almost decided to head home, her eyes snagged on a form further down the beach. She glanced back at herself as was satisfied to see that her mane had laid back down to cover her marking. Usually she had no problem showing what she was - but it was time for something new. Harlan moved down towards the stranger, giving as friendly of a call as she could as she approached. She stopped a respectable distance, keeping a wary expression on her face as she took in the palomino. There was something about him... Good afternoon, stranger. I'm glad to see that the war hasn't ravaged this place yet, her tones were friendly but guarded - which she assumed would be appropriate given the state of the world. Her eyes looked out to the water with a half smile across her white dipped lips. I hope it never does.TAG fleabittengray and Xovad! You'll never know what hit you
He stood still after some time, facing the ocean and breathing in the salt and brine aroma. His hooves sank slightly into the damp sand beneath him and for a moment, just a moment, Xovad felt peaceful. He smiled, slow but bright, and basked in the afternoon autumn sunlight. The soreness from his battle with the Helkaer mare had left him, and his wounds were healing. He was left with some bruising and scabs, but had healed fairly enough. The bite above his right eye and the small gash above the Versai brand on his chest, though scabbed over now and more or less healed, were still signs of a recent fight with someone. He wondered if others would see the forming scars and think he was cruel, someone to avoid, just because he bore signs of a recent fight. If only they'd known the truth. He'd gone to the Outlands not for a battle, but for a civilized discussion. He'd hoped to run into Sly, the Helkaer Commander, but had been intercepted by another Helkaer. He'd not gotten her name, and had not done much digging into figuring out who she was just yet, but he figured he would get around to it eventually. He had no retaliation planned, he wanted to start no wars with the Helkaer as a whole, but he would like to at least know the name of the crazed maiden that had tried to belittle him.
His red eyes were closed when he heard the slight shifting of sand beneath hooves, a sign of someone walking nearby. He paid them no mind, for the moment, though an ear was swiveled in their direction - listening intently, and ready to defend himself, should the need arise. It was only when he heard a friendly (or so he thought) call that his eyes opened and he turned his head in the direction of the stranger - for they were, indeed, a mare he had not yet met. He smiled at her kindly, dipping his head, and a quick glance over her bodice (or at least, what he could see of it as she approached) showed no signs of injury - or of her being another Helkaer. She halted a fair distance away from him, and had a wary look on her face, but Xovad did not immediately believe her to be innocent. Still, he would treat her kindly - he would be a poor example of Light if he did not!
Good afternoon, stranger. I'm glad to see that the war hasn't ravaged this place yet. A quiet chuckle left the Versai hellion, watching as the mare's eyes turned out toward the horizon upon the sea itself. I hope it never does. He nodded his agreement before speaking. "Yeah, it would be a shame to see this place be destroyed by war. It's so nice here, even when it starts getting cold." He breathed in a deep inhale of the ocean air, letting out the breath in a quiet sigh. "It's almost possible to forget about the war, with the ocean glistening underneath the sun like it is."

Injuries from battle with Nemesis (it has been at least 3 weeks since the battle by this point):
- Bite to the right side of his throat/neck area. Nemesis was not successful in getting a direct hit to his throat, but still managed to get a bite in the general area. - Bite above his right eye, the skin is torn and bleeding (moderate). - Small gash on his chest above his Versai brand that is bleeding (low), from Nemesis's hoof cutting him. The surrounding area is also sore and will bruise.

Upon closer inspection of the painted stallion, the phantom noticed indications of a recent fight - healing wounds on his face and one above a marking she couldn't quite make out. A thrill shot through her at the idea of meeting another possible Underworld supporter or someone who may be looking for protection. Protection that could possibly be given by the Brotherhood, at a price of course. She still couldn't shake the feeling that there was something familiar about the beast even though they had never met. He didn't appear to be immediately concerned by her presence, which could mean that she wasn't familiar to him either. But, only time would tell if that was true or not. Yeah, it would be a shame to see this place be destroyed by war. It's so nice here, even when it starts getting cold. The wraith's magenta eyes shifted back to the beast with curiosity openly dancing across her features. Some of it was real, like wanting to make that mental connection. The rest? She assumed that was how a foolish mare would act. Inwardly, however, she rolled her eyes. In her opinion, Harlan wouldn't mind seeing what would happen if the war did seep into the beach. Would the sea reach out and heal everything it touched? Or, would it suddenly take over and drown whatever life was left? It's almost possible to forget about the war, with the ocean glistening underneath the sun like it is. The Helkaer was pulled out of her thoughts in a snap, her small smile growing into one she hoped looked more friendly than she felt. It's hard to find places like this to escape to. A soft laugh. It's not exactly a good hiding spot, but it sure is beautiful.Harlan gestured towards his injuries, eyes still trying to make out the marking on the stranger's chest. If these are the worst of your injuries during this war, you should consider yourself to be lucky. I've heard of people disappearing while out for walks! The wraith shook her head, continuing softly. I'm not sure what trouble you got yourself into, but it's good to see that the Afterlife didn't gain another soul. The Helkaer wanted to gag at her words, wanting to know all the details or move closer to see if she could finally recognize the stallion. Who did he fight? Who won? What side was he fighting for? There were a thousand tiny details she wanted but had to tread carefully. For now. TAG fleabittengray and Xovad! WORDS 420 (heh) TIMELINE Fall, after TF meeting [before Dahlia plot and before Regina fight] I know we're past the deadline, but I would love to see how this goes!

You'll never know what hit you
There was no reason to be suspicious of this mare, not yet, but Xovad still kept his wits about him. He didn't want to get in another damn fight. It would be a waste of time and energy. Couldn't anyone just have genuine conversations anymore, without resorting to violence, even if they were enemies? It honestly disturbed him, how quickly others resorted to fighting. Xovad was a good fighter, he had skills, he had nearly won that battle with the Helkaer mare. It had been a close fight, and had left the both of them battered and bruised. But just because he knew what he was doing in a fight didn't mean he had to go looking for them. He thought of Carmilla, how timid she was, but gaining confidence as she started to learn how to defend herself. He smiled a little at the thought of her. She was a pretty maiden. Timid and shy, but sweet. Oh, if he only knew.
At his words, this other mare was smiling, though there was something about that smile that seemed a little offer. He tried not to think too much of it. Maybe she was just nervous, and he did look a bit beat up. There was no way of telling if he was a good guy or a bad guy. If she saw his Versai brain on his chest, and knew of their history, perhaps she would even immediately think that he was the worst thing to walk the face of the earth. He was trying to change the perspective on the Versai. So far, he had managed to make some potential friendships in the Vigilum. It's hard to find places like this to escape to. She laughed softly, and Xovad turned his head to look at her. She was on his left side, her right side facing him, and thus, the Helkaer brand on her withers was not yet visible to him. It's not exactly a good hiding spot, but it sure is beautiful. Xovad thought of Rain Forest Beach then, and of the beautiful Queen Nixi that lived there. His heart ached for her, longing for her, but she had not come to see him in a long time. Perhaps he would go see her... It seemed the Versai were allowed in the Light Kingdom again.
"Yeah, I've always been fond of beaches," he admitted, a fond look on his face, eyes twinkling as he looked back out toward the sea. He could not help but feel so light and warm when he thought of the Queen. He only hoped that she felt the same way. From the corner of his eye, he could see the mare beside him motion toward his healing wounds, and also seeming to try and get a better view of the Versai mark upon his chest. He made no move to show it more clearly. Why put himself at such risk? If these are the worst of your injuries during this war, you should consider yourself to be lucky. I've heard of people disappearing while out for walks! He snorted out a laugh, lips moving into a crooked little grin. I'm not sure what trouble you got yourself into, but it's good to see that the Afterlife didn't gain another soul. Again, he chuckled. "It's gonna take more than this to kill me, I assure you," he spoke with confidence, but without sounding overly cocky.
