i'll tell you my sins, & you can sharpen your knife
ADORA | FOUR | 15.2 | PALOMINO OVERO
lady of the sunset shores
she didn’t know what she was doing here, in truth. it had been some time since she'd returned to the free lands. it reminded her of ... a simpler time, perhaps? adora was a landholder now, after all. no longer free to take on the world as she wanted. on the contrary, she thought, this is what she wanted: to follow a higher power. it was her youth slipping through her hooves, so to speak, something that she had long accepted. the mare sighed then, feeling so painfully aware of the ghosts of her homeland as they danced around her. in due time, she would travel back to meraki woods to speak with boudicca with high hopes for a future alliance. with ludovico back in her life, should she not feel grateful for how the wold swayed in her favor?
adora's gaze lifted from the geysers ahead to the skies above, sucking in a hard breath of the warm winds that were erupting around her. alabaster tendrils swirled her face as she finally started forward, strides light against the slippery tread of ground. her legs carried her into the mists, letting the steam mist her tired muscles. as she moved, adora could see the faces of olde in the back of her mind. for a few moments, she was home; before the tithing broke them, and before she knew the hardships of being a filly in a time like that. adora could picture her mother just at her side with that wide smile spread across her face. gods, she missed everyone.
the palomino did not know how long she had been lost to the magic of nostalgia, but when she came back to, she could see a blur of another off in the distance. adora's audits flickered, slowing her pace. had they been watching her? she wondered, snorting in the direction of this stranger. with her body feeling anew, the baroness of sunset shores trudged onward. "you there!" adora called out. "what say you?"

Soon, so soon. The wraith moved slowly along the edges of her territory, eyes scanning the landscape for any more unwelcome strangers. She paused on a slight hill, breathing the cold, frigid air. Winter was one of her favorite times of the year - harsh, unyielding, and a tendency to smother life. Today, however, it had pulled her thoughts to the last time she went for an adventure out in the snow. That lapse of judgment had led to her first set of infuriating twins and a festering vendetta against the Dark Kingdom. While she couldn't act on that now, the truce wouldn't be in place forever. When that time was up, the private looked forward to speaking with the Dark Queen again - this time with more blood. A snort slipped through her nostrils as the Helkaer turned to move back towards the Freelands. Harlan knew that after this mission from Xerxes was complete, she would spend more time in Sinheim, so she might as well get out now. The dappled mare stalked towards one of the few lands she had yet to visit, magenta eyes taking in the shooting pillars of water with interest. It was the type of volatile beauty that the phantom could appreciate. She slowly wandered, the smell of sulfur overwhelming her senses. If she were a softer mare, it would have been comforting. Harlan slowly weaved between the sizzling columns as she started to work through her plans. They were intricate, but nothing that concerned her. As the Helkaer wove around a particularly tall and wide pillar, she saw a shadowy figure not too far away. The mist from the heat was too thick and the distance was too great to determine if they were someone familiar, but Harlan began to stalk forward anyway. Would she be lucky enough to run into Thomasin all alone again? That would certainly make the day much more interesting. You there! What say you? The wraith slammed to a halt as the voice reached her ears. They immediately snapped back against her skull and anger began to seep into her features. She was sent back to her life before coming here and joining the Brotherhood - the past that she fought hard to move past. Suddenly she remembered that young, wide-eyed filly from a tiny herd that was dazzled by a large kingdom and handsome heir. An heir who betrayed her. That betrayal cut even deeper when he was promised to someone shiny and new. And her voice was deeply ingrained in Harlan's memory. Lengthening her stride and ignoring the geysers around her, Harlan's attention locked onto the other mare, who signified her failures. Her magenta depths blazed with anger as she took in the familiar palomino mare in front of her. What the fuck are you doing here? No preamble, no greeting. The Helkaer's tone was full of malice. What happened, princess? The word dripped from her lips like venom. Looking for another prince to call your own?SpeechTAG JUNI! and Adora! ADORA | FOUR | 15.2 | PALOMINO OVERO
lady of the sunset shores
adora froze - the world around her suddenly quieting to make way for the other mares voice. her heart thrummed deep within her chest, and she felt like the world had just ended for her once more. she had been here long enough now that she'd hoped the day of unannounced reunions were over. ludovico was one thing, but this? adora took a small step backward, her pupils narrowing to mere slits as the magenta eyed witch spoke. "what happened, princess? come to find another prince to call your own?" not much had changed, adora noted. harlan didn't know, she realized, and the malice that dripped from the others lips sent shivers down the palomino mares spine. it had been some time since she'd seen harlan. her sire had done unspeakable things to secure her betrothal to the kings son, but adora had fought for that not to mean taking this mares life. the would-be queen was a wrench in their plans, her father said. "we were children then, harlan. a lot has changed," adora mused after some thought.
"i bear it so they don't have to," the lady of sunset shores reminded herself. not much had changed for her, either. in truth, these two knew little of one another - but adora was nothing more than a usurper. back then, the decision to keep quiet about the arranged marriage was solely for adora's safety. harlan was admired by the masses. so strong willed, beautiful to match, but she could do nothing but accept her father, and the kings, choices. harlan looked unto her as the one who took everything from her, and though adora desperately wanted to spill the pages of the treachery, she knew it was for naught. there would be no understanding here. she would never know the life she was escaping if the palomino could help it. as the geysers raged on around them, she let her cerulean gaze meet the magenta witch's. "i came here for the same reason as anyone else, if you must know. i have no interest in you or your affairs," she said. adora wanted to be as casually cruel as the other, but it was so out of her nature.

A sharp thrill of hunger ran through the wraith's veins at the other mare's retreat. Albeit, it was a small one, but was still noticed. What was the bitch's name again? Adora. Adora. As if she was already demanding to be loved and cherished by all those who met her. It was disgusting. It was irritating all those years ago, and just as irritating now. We were children then, Harlan. A lot has changed. The private's ears flattened even further when her name fell from the other's tongue. Indeed, a lot had changed. Those were the most impressionable years in Harlan's life, and look how she turned out. It hadn't taken long for her personality to warp and shift into something more volatile. Did this backstabber realize she had such a role in Harlan becoming the creature before her? She doubted it. A cruel smile carved its way across the Helkaer's face as she moved closer, edging around a dormant geyser. Yes, things have certainly changed. I know I have, a dark laugh snaked from her chest. Adora had no idea what the phantom had become - what she had found. The Brotherhood had allowed her to grow into who she truly was. Was the other mare ready for the new and improved Harlan? She was someone else back then - sweet, charismatic, gentle. That filly no longer existed. Had Adora figured that out yet? Did she realize that the Harlan she knew had died? I came here for the same reason as anyone else if you must know. I have no interest in you or your affairs. Harlan merely snorted and shook her head as she continued to stalk closer. She met those blue eyes with dark delight gleaming in her own. Why do you think I'm here, Adora? The Helkaer spat the name out with a snarl. She took another large step forward with the intent of being in the mare's bubble. What would she do? Attack her? The thought made another soft chuckle fall into the warm air between the pair. Harlan had her revenge planned since the day she saw that mare next to the heir of the kingdom. The pieces might finally be falling into place, but she certainly wouldn't rush her plans. Unfortunately for you, I am interested in your affairs. So please, do enlighten me. Why is the princess all alone? Her tone was anything but sweet, the threat an open invitation. let me give you my life illɘgal & harlan there was something awful retching in her chest; a tightness she could not escape no matter how calm her breathing was, or how much distance she tried to keep from the other mare. harlan spoke of change within herself, and the palomino crooked her ears to the side. closer and closer the other got, leaving her sitting back into her pasterns by the time their eyes met. "why do you think i'm here, adora?" gods, her skin could have crawled off of her body at the sound of her name falling from harlan's maw. "another arranged marriage, perhaps?" she retorted, her tone as airy as it had been before she'd realized what a grave mistake approaching this stranger would be. adora felt guilty for her anger toward the other, but what was she to do? what could she say? her bark was for naught. the magenta eyed snake stepped into her, and adora twisted herself to bend against it. the feeling of harlan's energy was something wicked, something she hadn't experienced since leaving home. it made the mare grateful that she'd not gotten caught up with her betrothed ... the things they would've been capable of would've destroyed their people. part of her laughed, even, thinking about how much her sire would've liked how this serpent tongued witch turned out. the irony of it would be one for the stories she'd tell her children someday. "so please, do enlighten me," harlan said, "why is the princess all alone?" adora at last perked her stance. her spine tensed, and her once languid muscles turned to stone in one short breath. adora whorled her head up to be eye to eye with the other, a soft snort huffing from the confines of her lungs. "i am no princess. i am a soldier," she breathed. "you think you're the only one with hardships? you do not know a thing about what i have endured in your stead." adora leaned herself in closer then, the creases above her eye furrowing in calculated restraint. her heart felt heavy in that moment -- like she was doing wrong. pressing in closer, cerulean eyes intently on the lines of harlan's facial markings, tone low to catch her ears just right; "i do wonder, have you changed, or did who you are finally come to light?" a d o r a TEMPLATE BY ELIZA @ Delusional & SP

A snicker pushed past the wraith's lips as Adora mentioned an arranged marriage. Is that what she truly thought what had happened? Was it so hard for the princess to imagine that someone had had affection for the Helkaer when she was young? Harlan couldn't recall when the two had spoken other than passing greetings. The mare was smart enough to weasel in and ruin the phantom's chance at a happy, normal life but hadn't been able to decipher the clues that were right in front of her. How... disappointing. It was almost surprising that the princess wasn't nearly as smart as young Harlan had assumed she was. She did not clarify that prior situation - let Adora believe whatever she wanted. Instead, she relished in watching the other mare's body shift as she drew closer. Harlan held the other's gaze with a hardened one, waiting impatiently for the answers to her questions. I am no princess. I am a soldier. Harlan scoffed at the words. You think you're the only one with hardships? You do not know a thing about what I have endured in your stead. Hardships? As a princess? What a joke. What, was it hard to plan parties and be loved by everyone? Yes, quite a difficult time in the young fem's life. Harlan remained steadfast as the palomino leaned closer, curious to see what bullshit would pour from her mouth next. I do wonder, have you changed, or did who you are finally come to light? The Helkaer bared her teeth as rage began to flow through her and thrash beneath her flesh. I am what you made me, Adora. The words were soft and full of venom. Do you honestly believe I have always been this way? I am a product of your actions. I chose to rise above it and find where I truly belonged. Don't pretend you know anything about me. You didn't bother to get to know me then, and you will never have the chance now. Magenta eyes blazed with fury as they bore into the mare's with the hunger started to seep into the edges. I have grown - changed into a better version of myself. But have you changed? You say 'soldier', but do you know what that actually means? The urge for Adora's blood started to change from simply wanting to cause pain to that feral need that simmered beneath the surface. The princess would never understand Harlan's choices, how the Brotherhood had allowed her to reach her true potential, and how the desire for flesh had only made her feel more powerful. The Helkaer might have thought her purpose was to help rule a kingdom and wear the facade of royalty. Now, she understood that that destiny was not hers. She was meant to be a part of the Brotherhood and spread terror and chaos through the lands. That was where she truly belonged. But where did Adora belong? Alone among the hot, spewing geysers? It was pathetic. I ask you again - why are you here?SpeechTAG JUNI! and Adora! WORDS 500+ TIMELINE Winter, after Gidge meeting, *after* Dahlia plot Ouch

let me give you my life illɘgal & harlan "i am what you made me, adora."it felt as if her whole world had shattered once again. her heart, her love for her people, her mother -- the wounds strewn open by the mere fraction of happenstance that harlan spoke of. the air in her lungs hitched, face becoming solemn. after everything, she had ever regretted her choices so much until now. she had come to the geysers for peace, mindfulness, only to be met with the ghosts of her past. "i gave you an out. i think you should be more grateful for that," adora retorted. she wouldn't waste her breath trying to convince harlan that she was better off, nor would she divulge into the world in which she'd left behind. she still refused to allow het to put such a heavy burden on her shoulders. she had enough of that to deal with, already. the wraith continued, and the pale golden mare shifted her weight away. her ears were still pricked back against her skull, eyes narrowed. "do you honestly believe i have always been like this?" harlan said. she scoffed, eyes looking toward the astelands around them. "i am a product of your actions. i chose to rise above it and find where i truly belonged." gods, she wanted to roll her eyes. adora flickered her tail in the others direction. "don't pretend to know anything about me. you didn't bother to get to know me then, and you will never have the chance now." this time, a tart laugh erupted from her throat, head shaking. "is that supposed to hurt me in some way, helkaer? am i missing something so profound about you? i am in shambles about it, truly." this time, adora gave into herself and rolled her cerulean eyes. if harlan thought so highly of herself, maybe she'd feel better to know that her once betrothed was probably six feet in the ground by now. anyone she'd known back then had likely met the same fate, not that adora thought she cared. not now, at the very least, if ever. it had crossed adora's mind a time or two in that short span that she very much was the usurper who took a crown that did not belong to her. no matter the malice shared between them, there was the budding shame in her chest to know it was her. her father's hand guided her choices, all the things she could've done differently had she not lived in fear. "i ask you again - why are you here?" harlan's voice broke her concentration, blue eyes darting back to the others face. a sneer prickled her lips back, pearly whites flashing in her direction. "i am here to serve under queen nixi and the light alliance. i've taken over sunset shores in ares nune's abscence," adora knew better than to allow the enemy knowledge of any kind; maybe it was arrogance making her feel untouchable in that moment. she didn't care. all the things she would lie to harlan about, her namestake would not be one of them. the heklaer would find out sooner or later, wouldn't she? "are you happy now, harlan? i am here to stay. i'm sure that will bring you great joy." a d o r a TEMPLATE BY ELIZA @ Delusional & SP
