It is sunny out with a few scattered clouds. It is bitterly cold out to the point that it almost hurts to breathe. The normally sandy arena is covered in a foot of snow and beneath that is a layer of ice. Gladiators must be careful not to slip. There is one pair in the arena at a time, so you will not see others fighting. Not following the setting will result in loss of points. The rules are simply. 800 words per posts, 2 posts per person. The battle starts immediately, you do not have to wait for your opponent to get there like in a normal battle. You can go for them right away. You are out of the tournament should you lose 2 battles. Good luck.
@phantasm will post first and then @faint

Name- Romeo/Rigor Mortis Breed- Thoroughbred Age- 11 Gender- Stallion Height- 17hh Alliance- Dark Health- 100% The golden fingers of the sun’s invisible rays stroked the heavily scarred and war-torn body of the Helkaer Commander as he stood within the center of the arena with his head held high in defiance. It was a beautiful – but cold – winter day; so cold that the oxygen one breathed in would feel like icy daggers in their lungs. Today was a day that one should spend nestled up with their family – not out battling for the sake of glory in Wild Equines, but then again, Romeo wasn’t your run-of-the-mill equine. He was the Helkaer Commander; a stallion of power who was feared, hated, envied and respected wherever he went. Charcoal-gray nostrils flared as he inhaled the scent of his enemy; a stallion whom he knew only by appearance. His lips curled upward into a smug smirk as his hazel eyes landed on his opponent; a stallion the color of spun gold that went by the name of Xiomar. For a fraction of a second, the only sound that could be heard was the soft whisper of the breeze as it forced its way through the stone structure that surrounded the arena, but then it was broken by the guttural chuckle that rumbled forth from Romeo. “You’re my adversary?” Amusement painted his words all the shades of sarcasm as his smooth teeth gleamed in the blinding light that was cast off of the snow. “Please, I’ve fought women with bigger balls than you.” As his words faded away, he moved forward in an attempt to get a feel for the surface of the arena that was underneath the thick layer of snow. Icy. It was just what he had expected for this time of the year and with these conditions. He would have to be a little more cautious with the way that he maneuvered around the Collosseum and with the way that he attacked, but in the end it shouldn’t be anything that he couldn’t handle. He was confident. He was conditioned. He was made of the perfect type of material to bring Xiomar down to his knees. “Tell me, Xiomar, have you ever wanted to know what it feels like to be a woman? Because I’m about to make you my bitch.” It didn’t matter to him one way or another if this golden boy took offense to his insult or not because all Romeo was doing was distracting him as he sought out the most strategic move to render this bastard useless once and for all in the weather condition that they were in. Instead of springing into action like a rampaging kamikaze, Romeo merely walked closer to his adversary, his heavily scarred head lowering slightly in an instinctive effort to protect the sensitive flesh of his throat. He knew better than to keep his head held high through the duration of the battle, for it would do nothing but make him more of an easy target. He had learned through experience that the throatlatch was the most common area to attack when in a battle, thus he knew that in order to keep his jugular vein intact he would need to keep this information at the back of his mind at all times. When Romeo had moved close enough that he felt confident that an attack would be beneficial, he sprang forward, the amusement long gone from the lines of his face as it transformed into a mask of hatred. He no longer felt the need to communicate with this lesser individual – no, the only thing he would do now for the little bitch boy was break him down, piece by piece, until there was nothing to left to recognize. Everything was a blur as he sped forward, his feet momentarily losing traction as his hooves dug into the ice underneath the snow, but he regained his balance quickly and used the momentum from the slip to spin around and throw out an aggressive – and low – cow kick that would meet above the fetlock and just below the knee if it landed. Unsure if it had landed with his haste to retreat, Romeo looked back, his eyes ablaze with malice and his blood fueled with white-hot adrenaline. He was a stallion of dominance; someone completely comfortable in the arena, and it was evident in the way he held himself after his attack; poised and ready. If the Xiomar character didn’t turn tail and flee in the other direction Romeo would counter any attack that his opponent made because there was no way – absolutely no way – that he was going to back down. He was born to fight. He was Romeo, the Helkaer Commander, a notorious stallion known for his ability to cause chaos – and chaos had just arrived. xx. Baby blue orbs looked at the scarred stallion across the arena. I had only heard of the Helkaer Commander, but his frame matched the rumors about him completely. He was a fierce stallion, one that never backed down from a battle. The rumor that ran throughout Wild Equines most was that he was cocky. I could tell by the way he moved that he was, in fact, just that. A cock. His chuckle made by blood boil and that was a hard thing to do, considering the air was so freezing that it made my lungs ache to even breathe.
xx. ‘You’re my adversary?’ He questioned his voice a lot raspier than I believe it would be. The game began with that one sentence. I knew this game, it was one of the mind. He wanted to get me worked up before the fighting even began! It was a smart move, for sure, but I was going to play this game a bit different. I was going to save my breath and use all my muscle for this battle. I was going to say nothing at all.
xx. I shifted on my hooves, allowing those muscles to ripple for a moment underneath my sun-kissed pelt. The snow creaked underneath my movement and I held back a chuckle as his next slam came to my auds. “Have you ever wanted to know what it feels like to be a woman? Because I’m about to make you my bitch.” Did he think his words were going to strike me and make me turn around and run out with my tail between my legs? I was no bitch that was for damn sure.
xx. Romeo walked toward me, muscles rippling underneath his scarred pelt. I threw my ears back against my skull, knowing that my pelt would soon look like his if I made it far at all in the Gladiator Tournament; and I was okay with that. When the brute was a yard from me, he sprang into action. I tried to move as well, but just as I went to bolt forward, my back hoof slipped out from under me, leaving me open to his attack. His blow landed square where he wanted to, sending a shock wave of pain throughout my entire bodice. I snapped my jaw shut, keeping the moan of pain inside and not out into the air. I didn’t want the kick to seem like it had caused damage, but it had. Not only was the skin broken open just above my knee, but the muscles were surely bruised.
xx. With a toss of my crown, I turned my bodice, now feeling the thick layer of ice underneath the snow. I mentally kicked myself for being so stupid and taking a hit that could cost me the battle. I faced the Commander once more and pawed the snow. Using my hindquarters, I rushed forward, flinging snow up into the air as I dug my daggers into the ice, now using it to my advantage.
xx. I aimed for the brute’s left shoulder, hoping to ram him hard with my right one. As I drew near, I lashed out with my teeth, hoping to have the bite land right on the base of his mane. I wanted to taste blood, I wanted to feel flesh and hair between my teeth and I wanted to see his frame hit the ice with a thud.

Name- Romeo Breed- Thoroughbred Age- 11 Gender- Stallion Height- 17hh Alliance- Dark Health- 88% Information so far - ** (( Romeo moved for Xiomar and lashed out with his hindquarters and back legs at Xiomar, aiming for an attack to the lower joint on the front leg. The attack connected (as described in Faint's post) and Xiomar instantly retaliated and flung his weight into Romeo and reached to bite out for his nape. Romeo didn't have enough time to move back from Xiomar's body weight unless he wanted to risk serious injury on the slippery surface but he was able to snake his head back in time to avoid the snapping teeth of his opponent. Romeo was brought to his knees by the force of his opponent's weight and his left knee is bruised and sliced up. He got back to his feet and instantly went for his opponent, sliding on the ice but regaining his momentum and launching up in a rear to strike out at Xiomar, whether it be the neck or the face he hasn't decided. )) **
A smile of arrogant triumph snaked its way across his chapped and bloodied labarums as he watched his adversary regain his balance, but not without a wince of pain and a favored leg. As he had hoped, his attack had landed where he had intended and it was probable that the bastard would think twice about using that leg for any sort of an attack – or, for that matter to take off fast on it. Romeo didn’t have a clue as to what kind of pain this Xiomar character could handle but he knew from simple anatomy that the body could only endure so much injury to the legs before they broke down and would not support the body that they carried anymore. It was a cheap shot, going for his legs, but Romeo wasn’t here to extend the fight. No, the darkened mahogany Helkaer Commander was here to get through as many battles as he could and to take down every damn equine that dared to take him on.It was a little disappointing that the smaller palomino bitch didn’t bite the bait that Romeo dangled in front of his fact but he knew he had plenty of other insults. The smile faded into a twisted smirk of confidence as he arched an eyebrow under the tangled fall of his onyx forelock, his pale hazel eyes gleaming with a predatory light. Silence settled between them like a thick and heavy blanket that did little to warm the atmosphere but he paid it no heed as he lifted his chin and flung his scarred head back in a sign of authority. He had never been to this specific battle arena but he had been to plenty of other ones in the past to know how they worked. He had to ensure that he used the land around him to his advantage lest it worked against him and hindered him with his ultimate plan; to win.
Xiomar used the next couple of seconds to launch forward into an attack. Romeo had predicted that his opponent would use the time following the attack to think of a smart maneuver but apparently the palomino stallion was driven forward by his need to retaliate. It was something that the experienced war horse could admire; the heart of bravery. It was almost unfortunate that he would have to break this colt down to move on to the next round – almost, but not quite. In fact, the more he thought about it the more humorous the situation seemed.
He listened to the hurried hoof beats of his adversary as he approached and he braced himself as much as he could on the slippery ground. Romeo knew that he had waited too long to safely move out of the way on this slippery surface and he wasn’t about to risk a severe injury just to avoid the clashing of bodies. In the next moment that followed he felt the weight of Xiomar crash into his shoulder and he staggered backward, wrenching his neck away from the bared teeth that were aimed for his nape. He chuckled, the sound low and guttural in his throat as he staggered to his knees, the icy ground underneath the thick snow biting into him and slicing open his left foreleg. “You’re mate, Juuri, she looks more like a man than you do, Xiomar. Yeah, I’ve seen her. I studied up on you before I came. I must say, I think you’re a little more homosexual than you let on, cupcake.” Romeo scrunched his lips together in an equine version of a ‘kissey face’ as he rose from his knees and shook off the excess snow that had clumped on his pelt. “I bet you’d rather kiss me than fight me, wouldn’t you? Sorry, I don’t swing that way. In fact, I got a dozen women back at home waiting to climb in bed with me.”
He smirked and instantly launched into motion to use the element of surprise to his advantage. He could feel his feet slide slightly on the icy surface and inwardly chided himself, but he continued forward. He pushed up off the ground as soon as he was close to the palomino body of Xiomar and he lashed out at him with both front legs, his hooves reaching for the sensitive flesh of his neck or his face. Romeo was no fool, he knew that this would leave the sensitive flesh of his stomach open for attack, but if it came down to it he could merely drop back down and try to take Xiomar with him if he tried to go for an attack on his stomach.

xx. The sound of my teeth snapping together bounced off the stone walls of the Colosseum. I clinched my jaw tight out of anger for missing my mark as I turned to look back at the Helkaer. A smirk of happiness appeared on my lips as I saw him on his knees. Blood stained the snow as his wound dripped the crimson liquid. It was the first signs of blood for this battle, but I was sure it wasn’t going to be the last. This brute was fierce and wouldn’t leave just because of a busted up leg, but at least now we were even. My own leg throbbed with each heart beat. I slowly turned my bodice to face him head on, favoring my injured left pillar.
xx. Words leaked from his maw and they sent a shiver down my spine. “You’re mate, Jurri…” It was all I heard before my world became red. He had crossed the line with the mention of my mate’s name. That was unacceptable. I took a few deep breaths, calming my rage before I realized that this was still part of his game. He wanted me to snap, to see red and to go bat-shit-crazy on him. It was his plan to get inside of my head and make me go after him, not caring about my own health in the process. Well, that plan wasn’t going to work.
xx. This tournament had brought danger to my mate, to my unborn child and to my land. After hearing his words, I knew I had to fight for her and our child, because if I didn’t then a snake, like the one on his knees before me, would try to steal her away. Winning was the only way to protect her. Winning was the only thing on my mind, winning and killing this son of a bitch.
xx. The movement of Romeo cleared my vision and I sucked in another breath of the icy air. Without warning he came at me and reared. His daggers lashed out at my face and throat, and without thinking I jerked to the side. My speed wasn’t fast enough though, for his hooves sliced a clean line above my right eye. The blood instantly began to seep from the wound and into my eye. I blinked furiously, trying to clear my vision from the crimson liquid.
xx. I knew from my wound and Romeo’s attack, that his pillars were high in the air, leaving his underbelly exposed to me. There was no way for me to turn and rear my hind legs into his stomach, since my leg would buckle out beneath me and send me crashing to the ground. The only option for another strike was to reach out, risk getting smashed underneath his body weight and take a bite out of the flesh underneath him. That, or do exactly what he was doing.
xx. Knowing this was my best option; I reared myself and struck out with my right pillar. It was the stronger of the two, since the muscles in my left leg had been bruised by his powerful kick. I aimed for his rib cage, hoping my dagger would slice into his flesh and down into his stomach. It was my only hope, seeing as I was now blinded by the blood flowing from the three inch gash above my eye and I was surely lame in my leg. Yet, this move was the smartest out of all the ones I could process in point six seconds.
