It has gotten a little warmer out, just warm enough for the snow to melt slightly and turn into slippery sleet. The clouds are dark gray and ominous and the wind has picked up speed. The ice has not melted, so gladiators have to move carefully. It's more slippery than before. Unlike round one, posts are now 1000 words or less. Be careful not to go over the limit as points will be deducted. Two posts per person. Make sure you fill out the battle form and include all injuries from the first battle. Failure to do so will result in points being deducted. Three days to reply. If you lose two battles you are out.
@phantasm will post first with Incognito followed by @cats with Serena

INCOGNITO, "Back off, I'll take you on. Headstrong, I'll take on anyone." The bitterly cold wind tugged at the ends of his tousled onyx mane as if making an impatient effort to gain his attention – the same attention that he had focused on the slender mare that stood before him. Incognito made no attempt to speak as he remained motionless, his seventeen hand frame poised in the event of a sudden attack, but he wasn’t worried about the surprise being the winning factor in this battle due to the icy conditions. It would be too reckless; too predictable, and it would be hard to pull off without being injured. Incognito didn’t know about this mare, but he, himself, couldn’t afford to come out of this battle permanently damaged by his own stupidity and rash behavior. He was no stranger to the law of battle; he knew that he would not come out unscathed from this Gladiator tournament. He had fought in enough wars throughout his lifetime to know that when it came down to grueling duels it was considered pretty damn lucky if both competitors walked away alive. Incognito was the Dark Royal King, he already had a position of power, so he wasn’t here for the same reason that a lot of the newcomers were. No, Incognito was here to fight in order to have something to do – in order to have something to get his mind off of things – and it didn’t matter to him if it was unfair or unjust. He was lost emotionally and he wanted to find himself again, and if it took battling it out and getting rid of his aggressive tendencies then so be it.
His baby blue eyes rested on his opponent for all of a second before he focused on his surroundings. If there was one sure fire way to win this battle – or to be a capable adversary – it was to strategize. His obsidian nostrils flared as he expelled carbon dioxide into the intangible atmosphere, breathing out the negativity that he felt as he pushed all other thoughts besides for the fight at hand to the back of his mind. He wanted to make sure that he was focused on his opponent in the event of the impending attack, and he wanted to make sure that he wasn’t going to make things worse by thinking of things that he couldn’t fix. The past was the past, or so he had been told, but his heart didn’t quite want to believe that one. He wasn’t quite ready to admit that he would never see Emmaline or Gehenna ever again. No, he just wouldn’t believe it.
As he ran his salmon-pink tongue against the back of his teeth, he returned his eyes back to the mare before him in assessment. He was looking for any sort of conformation flaws that he could use to his advantage – that, or heavy scars where he would be sure that a previous injury had occurred. It would be a cheap shot, but it would be quick, and he could advance to the next round in this Gladiator tournament. As it was, this was the second stage of the tournament, for his first adversary had refused to battle, thus he had won by default. He knew that he was lucky due to the fact that he had not been preciously injured and he walked into this fight in full health, but he wasn't going to expect an instant win just because of this. As a matter of fact, hewasn’t here to prolong the fight and draw out the injuries; he was here to numb the pain that he felt. At this thought, Incognito grimaced lightly at the icy condition of the arena that laid under the melting snow. It, was far worse than it had been previously, for the snow had melted and made the ice underneath even more treacherous. He was no fool, he knew that this ice was much more dangerous.
He wasted no time in useless words as he gave a shake of his obsidian and alabaster marked head before he moved forward at a cautious trot in an effort to test out how the terrain would hold up with a little bit of speed. He knew better than to go any faster than this, unless he wanted to lose his footing and be at a disadvantage. As he trotted closer to his opponent, he weighed the pros and cons of an attack quickly, a single ear twitching momentarily before it returned to an alert position. It was the only indication to the fact that he was thinking as he slowly drew in on his circling, the sound of his hooves the only thing that he could hear other than the wind.
It was then that he attacked, having moved to within approximately ten feet from his opponent. As he lunged forward, his jaws parted and his teeth searched for any portion of the mere’s body as he used his body weight to carry him forward. As he drew closer he lost his traction on the icy ground underneath him and wobbled, trying to keep his balance and to keep from going down and being at an instant disadvantage. There was nothing worse than being down on the ground where the enemy could pin you and keep you immobilized while they pummeled you. Thankfully, at the last second, he was able to regain his footing and he lurched forward in a less graceful attempt at an attack than before. He struck out at his opponent, regretful that it had to be a female. His hooves and teeth reached for any portion of her body that he could reach, his obsidian ears pinned back to his skull as he pushed his bothersome thoughts to the back of his mind. Perhaps he would be able to win this battle, too, and maybe - just maybe - win this whole tournament.

Once again Serena was in the arena. The previous battle had ended prematurely when her for-a-little-while-enemy had forfeited the fight. She was not sure why he had done this, he had caused her some serious damage and she was sure he could have won if he had continued. Maybe the injury in his foot from being careless was more serious than she had thought at first. It did not matter now though, what mattered was that she had made it to round two with one win on her name. Serena was very fortunate that her last opponent did not badly injure her shoulder but he did leave a big painful bruise. The gap in her neck had stopped bleeding due to the cold -at least the temperature was good for something- but it would take some time to heal. She knew it was her weak spot so she had to be careful this fight to not expose it. A bite to make it bleed again would be extremely painful and she was not sure how much pain she could take.
The horse in front of her seemed very fit. From where she was standing she could not spot any injuries on him. She wondered if it was because his opponent had also forfeited but sooner than Serena's opponent or maybe he was just that good. Was it possible for a horse to dodge all attacks? The thought of it made Serena nervous. She has no idea how skilled the horse in front of her was and if she was in a major disadvantage. She would only know when the fight had started but it did make her more on edge.
The weather had also changed a bit since last fight. Instead of it being cold to the bone it was now more winter like. The sky had become much darker and the almost dark clouds threatened to unleash a snowstorm, which would not improve the arena at all. Despite all of this it had become a little bit warmer though and it had made the snow melt, creating a sticky and deceiving white pulp. She could still feel the ice underneath it -slippery and treachery as always- and these two layers combined were more dangerous than the freshly fallen snow. She had to be careful to not strain her feet when attacking. The pulp could suck a vacuum beneath her hoof and if she did not pay attention to it the force of Serena trying to pull her hoof of the ground could build some serious forces in her muscles.
She noticed the stallion slowly coming forward which confirmed her suspicion about the pulp. As he came closer and closer she tried to replay how her previous battle had gone. She had then been surprised by speed -something she thought she also possessed- and she would be careful to not be taken by surprise again, her two wounds would remind her of that. Even if she would not win this tournament, she would at least learn a lot from it. She would not let speed defeat her again. The pace of the steed had now become a trot as he circled around her. Being as cautious as possible, Serena circled around on the spot to keep an eye on her enemy, his hooves making a sucking sound.
He got closer to her and when he was around 3 meters away from her he tried to strike out to her. The stallion had lost his balance for a second though -maybe he had underestimated the pulp- and Serena decided to use this in her advantage. As he still glided closer to her, she used his own force against him. She had to use less force to get in range of him than he had to use and she lashed out with her teeth trying to rip some skin of his muscled neck. He regained his balance and tried to hit her with his hooves and teeth simultaneously. She was able to dodge his teeth but one of his hooves hit her already bruised shoulder. A sharp pain shot through it and she buckled over a bit. She did not have any movement or strength because of this and so she was not able to buck. Instead she used the force of her forward movement to try to smash his body with the full weight of hers, trying to push him over. Serena then trotted away to avoid being hit by hooves that might follow her last attack.
