Schism was not sure what to do at this point. Or rather, he was sure but he didn't know if he could do it. The thought of trying to get into contact with his father again made him want to run far, far away. But he still hadn't found Roux. When a stranger had come up to him telling him that there was something that he had to see and he asked if it was Roux and they had said yes... Well he couldn't help but take them up on the offer. Even if he had never seen this horse before in his entire life. He had to give it a try. So, he had followed them into a place in the Free lands that he hadn't really explored that much before. It was pitch black out now and Schism could barely see through the shrouded moon. "Are you still there?" He called out into the darkness, wondering where his guide had gone. He hadn't even gotten a name from them. Just a "follow me, I know where Roux is!" Schism felt desperation take hold of him. How could he be so stupid? Of course they hadn't known where Roux was. It was just a trick, something to get his hopes up. Now they were gone and there was nothing for him to do but try to find his way out of here. Where ever "here" was. He glanced around, squinting his eyes, trying to make out something, anything, in the darkness.
There were a few trees around him, though that hardly helped him out. He let out a grumble of frustration. This was ridiculous. How could he let himself get conned into something like this? "I'm such an idiot," he grumbled. He wandered further along and tripped over something in the dark. Probably a rock. His foot smarted as he continued to walk. He would find a familiar land mark soon. After all, he'd lived in the Free lands for quite some time before living in Lyrarcor. He continued along, wandering past a few more trees. He didn't like this. He didn't like being in the darkness. It reminded him too much of a darker time. Before his conversion, he'd loved darkness like this. Loved the way it concealed him. Loved the way he could use it as a cover. He hated thinking about those times, but the memories came rushing up anyway. Horses screaming in pain, mares screaming for him to stop. He squeezed his eyes shut as he continued along. That wasn't who he was anymore. It couldn't be. He refused to ever go back to that life. It would haunt him forever and he didn't think he would ever make up for what he had done, but he would try. He would make an effort to be better, to fight against those who would harm others, and to educate those who were heading down the wrong path. He was not strong enough to do it yet, but he would be.
Distracted by his musings and burdened further by closed eyes, he managed to barrel right into another tree. He opened his eyes, hissing, and glanced upward. The trees outline was dark against the thin light of the moon. It was still bare from the winter time. However, a curious shape sat amongst the branches. He tilted his head slightly and the thing tilted its head back. Some kind of bird. "I don't suppose you know where I am, do you?" He muttered outloud to the bird. The bird screeched in reply and Schism figured that it was some kind of hawk. Well, unfortunately, a hawk was not going to do him much good out here. He glanced around again, trying to get a feel for his surroundings, but nothing looked familiar. Everything was hazy and dark. He sighed. If only he knew the way that he'd come. He leaned up against the tree, hearing the hawk screech again. "If you want to try and carry me off, go ahead," he said again. He didn't care that he was talking to a bird. There was no no else out here but the two of them, and if anyone else was out here, it was far too dark to see anyway.
"What am I doing here," he said outloud, groaning in exasperation at himself, "I'm so stupid. I'm never going to change am I? I can't find her. I don't know where she is," his voice rose in despair and he had to cut himself off as he became choked with emotion. He wouldn't know what to do if he couldn't find Roux. He had to find her somewhere, somehow. It couldn't end like this. She had to be alive somewhere. It was just a matter of finding her. But he was getting closer and closer to his last resort. "What if Lateralus won't help me?" He murmured outloud, giving voice to his worst fear. If he called his father and then his father refused what then? Call another angel? Hope that one showed up for a rapist and sinner like himself? He started laughing nervously. Abruptly, he started up his journey again. If he kept going forward, he would eventually find his way out of here. Or he would just end up staying out here until morning. He supposed that wouldn't be so bad, assuming that there weren't predators out here in the woods. That would certainly not be a pleasant end to his story.
Eventually as he continued on, he recognized the familiar cliffs of Kunipar Cliff. "Thank fuck," he muttered. He suppressed a shudder, not wanting to relive the very unpleasant memories that haunted him from this particular Free land, but at least he was out. He had no idea where the guide had gone. Had they fled as soon as he turned his back? Were they lost in the darkness as well? Or had he simply been imagining things, trying desperately to find someone who would know where Roux was? He supposed any of them were possibilities. But he was out. He breathed a sigh of relief and as soon as he was able, he veered sharply away from Kunipar Cliff. It was late and he should probably go home and get whatever sleep he could before resuming the search tomorrow. And hoping that no mysterious guide bothered him this time.
