ENVY
character: kiki korpse
- Father, please, please forgive me... -
TW: Self-harm, language, violence.
Kiki did not know where she was. She had never been in this part of Wild Equines before. It was chilly out, nearing sunset. The sun was sinking lower and lower on the horizon and it was threatening to be a cold, early autumn night. She felt like she must be somewhere in the mountains, where it was colder than in the rest of Wild Equines. The Highlands, maybe? Mount Vigilum? Fuck it, maybe she wasn't in Wild Equines at all. She had been traveling for so long she couldn't remember if she had gone beyond Wild Equines' borders or not. Perhaps she was in an entirely new land. Wouldn't that be nice? A brand new start. Not that she'd had much of a start here in Wild Equines. Been here for how many years and still had yet to find a home or really make any friends? Maybe because she was a fucking ugly loser. No one wanted her. The eight year old gray thoroughbred was covered in black scars, the majority of which were from self-inflicted injuries. There were a couple on her chest that were fresh wounds, currently scabbed over. A few fading crimson pathways of blood could be seen on her chest, vibrant against her gray hue, but she didn't realize it. She'd forgotten that the blood stains were there, honestly, because she was so often coated in her own blood. It was not uncommon for the lonely mare. Sighing, the thourughbred continued her walked. She felt as if she walked for hours, for days, for years without really noticing where she was going or where she was. Nothing stuck out to her, nothing seemed interesting enough to want to pay attention to it. That is, until she noticed that, rising from the rocky mountain path she walked along, a mist was swirling around her long, slender pillars. She blinked down at it, pausing in her forward motion, staring at the mist. When had it gotten there? Had she been walking through mist all this time and just not noticed it until now?
"Careful now, darling. Don't want to linger too long in this mist. It might just be the end of you." Kiki's head snapped up at the sound of the voice, eyes widening to stare in the direction of the feminine vocals. She snorted in alarm, taking a step back, and as she did she noticed that the misty atmosphere seemed to increase, growing more ominous. It was swirling around the tops of her legs now, a pungent smell rising from it - almost sulfuric, now that she thought about it. The young mare gulped, squinting through the growing darkness in the direction of the voice. "Don't strain your eyes, sweetheart." She jumped forward, startled to find that the voice was now suddenly coming from behind her. Whipping around with ears paced back against her skull, Kiki bared her teeth and was ready to shout at whoever had snuck up on her through the mist, but instead her jaw dropped in awe as she came face to face with the most beautiful mare she had ever seen in her life. The mare was tall and elegant, with a silvery mane and tail that fall down to the trampled grassy path underfoot. Her eyes were the color of emeralds, bright and fiery and sinister. Her coat was nothing she had ever seen before, a mixture of colors. Buckskin and golden champagne, she was guessing, and despite the lack of lighting, her pelt seemed to be gleaming. She had black markings on her hips that Kiki couldn't quite make out, no matter how hard she tried to sneak a peek at them. It was only when the mare laughed, the sound light but eerie, that Kiki realized she was staring. "Cat got your tongue, sugar?" the mare drawled out and Kiki's ears laid even further back against her skull, if at all possible. She growled, taking a half-step back from the mare, annoyance radiating from within her when the stranger just took a full step towards her.
"The fuck do you want?" the scarred gray snapped, lashing her tangled white banner against her flank. But the mare didn't seem phased at all, laughing again and taking another step forward, emerald eyes on her. They were the greenest thing Kiki ever saw, even greener than the forestry around them."I want you," the stranger cooed, and her voice was so sultry, so seductive, so... perfect. Meanwhile, Kiki's own voice was a deeper tone than most females. Sometimes she was even mistaken for a man by her voice alone. The mare's voice matched her looks perfectly. It was beautiful. She was beautiful. Kiki's jaw clenched, then, and she huffed. "Oh yeah?" she scoffed, rolling her eyes - and what boring hazel eyes she had, compared the the gems this gal had. "And just who the hell are you, then?" The elegant stranger chuckled, taking another step towards Kiki, the sulfuric mist framing her bodice. Kiki was... transfixed by her appearance. She didn't even look real. "Sweet, sweet, Kiki," the stranger cooed and the scarred femme felt chills go down her spine. How the fuck did this stranger know her name? Kiki had never met her before. She would have remembered someone that looked like her. "Don't you know me? I'm Envy." Envy personified, was more like it. Kiki felt bitterness rise within her and she huffed, rolling her eyes again, turning to walk away from this mystic, only to stumbled over herself as the stranger once again appeared before her. Kiki stared again for a moment before looking back over her shoulder at where the mare had been just moments ago. How in the hell...
"Nice little magic trick there, Envy," she snapped, gritting her teeth as she walked forward, shoving a scarred shoulder against Envy's unmarred shoulder as she passed. There was a prick of electricity that coursed through her as they touched and Kiki quickled jerked herself away from the mare, snorting harsly. "Freak." No, that's you. Her gut tightened, eyes cast down to the ground as she continued to walk away from the stranger. She could hear Envy laughing behind her. That stupid laugh. It kept echoing in Kiki's ears. She couldn't get the beautiful mare's image out of her head. Grumbling to herself, she kept walking, aimless in her wandering, until she found herself at a split in the path. One path led right and the other to the left. To the right led off into a forest. But to the left, nearly hidden by the mist that still swirled around her, there seemed to be some sort of cave system. Kiki felt herself being drawn towards the left path, feet moving in that direction without a second thought. The closer she got to the entrance to the biggest cavern, the thicker and more pungant the mist became until it was nearly burning her eyes and nose. She coughed, shaking her head, but continued onward, a supernatural pull seeming to lead her into the dark abyss of the cave.
Inside, it was nearly pitch black. She could hear the faint sound of trickling water somewhere in the distance, further inside of the cave. She blinked, standing still until her eyes adjusted to the darkness. She could vaguly make out the size of the cave, though when she looked forward, all she could see was darkness. The mist didn't seem to penetrate further into the cave, so Kiki carefully took a few steps forward. Her hooves clacked against the solid rock beneath her. It felt slippery. She'd better be careful. Squinting, she marched on. And then she heard it. Another set of hooves, clicking ahead of her against the cavern floor. And then she caught a whiff of the other equine's scent and senseless rage boiled within her. Envy. Again. "HEY!" she shouted, her voice echoing loudly off the walls. Her shout disturbed bats that had been sleeping overhead and, all at once, they came swarming around her, squeaks and flapping wings all she could hear. She grunted, closing her eyes until the bats had cleared, chin tucked against her chest. When she opened them, she was, once again, face to face with Envy. The silver-haired mare was grinning, emerald eyes somehow seeming to glow in the darkness of the cave. "Are you fucking following me?" Kiki snapped, her voice quieter now in fear of disturbing another swarm of bats."It would seem that you are the one following me, darling." Kiki huffed, stomping a hoof down with a hard crack. "You must think you're hot shit, huh?" She snapped, shoving her face in Envy's, lip curled into a snarl. "Beautiful and perfect," she spat out, her words increasing in volume. All the while, Envy just stood there, with that stupid grin on her face. "You're just a fucking slut, aren't you?"
Kiki found herself growing to irrationally hate this total stranger. She found herself wanting her gone, lost forever in this unknown cave. And all Envy was doing was standing there, smiling. "So what if I don't fucking look like you, huh? So what if I got a couple scars?" More than a couple. Tears were beginning to well up in her eyes and she hastily blinked them away. Kiki swallowed down the sudden sob that wanted to break free, a lump forming in her throat, and, finally, Envy spoke."The Underworld sent me for you, Kiki. They know of your self-hatred. They know you want to be beautiful. Like me." Jealousy surged through the scarred femme and she lunged forward, startling Envy who hadn't been expecting the sudden attack. Kiki managed to latch onto Envy's cheek, ripping it open with her teeth. The taste of blood against her tongue both thrilled and disgusted her. Envy let out a squeal, ripping her head away from Kiki, her emerald eyes wide. Kiki spit the blood from her mouth, licking it from her lips. "Not so pretty now," she hissed, thinking of her own scars, how they took away from any potential beauty she could possibly have with her plain colored pelt. "You shouldn't have done that," Envy said, her voice calm, and Kiki just laughed, the sound manic. "Go tell the Underworld to stop sending me beautiful women. I don't need them." I feel bad enough about myself without having to see them. Envy just shook her head. "You had your chance at being beautiful. And you let a little jealousy ruin it. Such a shame, Kiki. Such a damn shame."
Envy began to walk away, and Kiki followed. She didn't know why she followed. Every second she spentin this woman's presence made her hate herself even more, so why did she feel compelled to follow her. "What do you mean?" she asked, curious but trying not to show it. Envy just laughed as they neared the opening of the cave. Kiki noticed that the sun had fully set now, leaving twinkling stars in the sky. She also noticed that the mist was gone. How peculiar. Frowning, she trotted forward to catch up to Envy, who was still walking away. How did she walk so fast? It was like her feet weren't even touching the ground. And come to think of it, speaking of the ground... why were there no leaves strewn around it? Kiki took a moment to observe the terrain around her, noticing that all of the trees had their leaves, and that the leaves were perfectly green. The grass was green and healthy. Green vines weaved their way up the trunks of strong, healthy trees. And yet it was cold, clearly not summer time, so why was everything so fucking green here? As if she could hear her thoughts, Envy chuckled."Goodbye, Kiki," she cooed and Kiki looked ahead of her, noticing just how far away Envy had gotten, her long, silvery tail trailing on the grassy path behind her. "Wait!" Kiki called out, feeling tears well up in her eyes as she rushed forward, trying to catch up to the mysterious mare, but in just seconds... she was gone. "Wait..." The word came out as a choked whisper, her lower lip quivering. "Why can't I be pretty, too..."
