The place she awoke came first as a surprise to her. Ana had never expected that she would join the Afterlife at all. Did everyone who fell beneath the control of death end up here? This place she awoke in was bleak, and gray. It lacked the vibrance of life, though hers had never been quite that vibrant. Ana pulled herself back up onto her feet and began to wander through the emptiness. It wasn't truly empty, it just felt that way to the newly deceased mare. The first thing, aside from the lack of vibrance, that she noticed was the complete silence. Were all their souls spilled into some sort of enclosed place? Untouched by the movements or remnants of their former life? Ana was as curious as she was frightened by this revelation. What if there were souls here that had not yet been born?
The young Appaloosa could feel her fear rising in her throat. She knew there were Afterlife leaders, but she had never sought them out. Ana had spent much of her life trying to be as active and trying to do as much as possible. Ana paused her movements, and stared straight. She also felt no physical ailments that had followed her in life. Her fear subsided at this revelation and she soon took off at a full gallop through the silent world. It almost felt like this was magic, or maybe this was another delirious state her illness had left her in. She'd often dreamed of flying on her hooves, and being free of any pain. Now it was true, at least to some degree.
Ana stopped just as suddenly as she had started racing across the silent world. One that wasn't really silent, but it was devoid of the background chatter of life. "Hello? Is there anyone out there that could help me?" She called out, and wondered if she would be forever trapped her alone. So far she had not seen another soul, and she wondered if she would.

The Lord auditons were coming up and Rasa was nervous about them. Wary. What was going to happen? Would all three men make it through the auditions, or would one - or all - of them fail? She had promised those from Asphodel a place in Utopia for auditioning, but even that hadn't spurred much of an interest from the realm of limbo. At least she had gotten two angels to want to audition. Thunderhead and Cadence. Thunderhead she did not know well at all, but Cadence she knew well enough. She had been a bit shocked when he went out for the audition after what Spike had done to him, but she was glad that he still held some faith in the position, enough to want to go for it himself, or so she assumed. Maybe she had it all wrong and he was doing it just to spite her and Spike. Rasa's jaw clenched and she sighed heavily. She was walking toward the Gates of Utopia, limbs carrying her without thought. She did not know where they were taking her, just following the tug on her soul in the direction of... someone. Something. Somewhere. Rasa was used to that supernatural tug on her being, leading her in the direction of someone who needed help, someone who needed her. She had felt it during the war... but had ignored it. Her chest clenched at the memory of ignoring the burning of the Neutral lands, of not going to fight in the war. She still felt immensly guilty over that. She didn't think she would ever not feel guilty over her inaction during the war. She just knew that she would not allow it to happen again.
She pondered the war as she walked aimlessly, not realizing where she was heading until she was out of Eden and in a silent, etheral land. Her steps faltered for a moment as she looked around at the vast nothingness, frowning and then realizing where she was just as a voice called out, "Hello? Is there anyone out there that could help me?" The bay Utopian Lady felt a smile stretching across her lips at the sound of a feminine voice and she nickered sweetly, warmly, before she began to walk in the direction where the voice had called from. Long legs carried her at a quick pace and in no time she was standing in front of the new soul. "Hello, dear," she said in a tired but warm tone, dipping her head. "I am Rasa, Lady of Utopia."

Ana peered into the empty world around her. She could feel the way that this place was lonely, and she almost felt guilty for wanting more than this. Even if this place ensured she did not feel any pain. A short time later, another equine appeared. She was a lovely bay equine with wings. Ana suddenly realized that she was staring in admiration of the other equine. The only thing that did not fill her with warmth was the fact that this mare looked quite tired. Ana wondered if it was her fault, but chased the thought away. There was too much happening right now for her to dive into the blackest pitch of her soul. The mare introduced herself as Rasa, the Lady of Utopia. Her thorns strained so far forward that they threatened to tear themselves off her visage. Rasa's words were as tired as she looked. Ana refrained from commenting on that though.
Ana decided it was rude to greet Rasa with her apperance. Even if she was tired. The Appaloosa mare smiled back at Rasa. "Hello, Rasa. So that means you're one of the Afterlife Leaders right? Wow! That's really impressive!" She gushed to the bay mare, though part of her wanted to keep her awe-struck state to herself. Ana tried to reign in her excitement for the time. "I'm Anacrusis... or really just Ana." She began, she didn't want to make it seem like she only wanted to speak to Rasa because she wanted something. "Can you tell me where I am?" Ana asked next, her voice was quiet. The wonder had vanished from her frame, but there was a flicker of curiosity alive inside her.
Ana wondered if Rasa would have to go, and leave her here. She didn't like the thought of that. She wasn't great with loneliness, nor being left on her own. Ana hadn't ever had it as bad as her brother, Cadence. It was still not something she boasted about openly. She felt another pang of guilt, and worried she was leaving him behind. She hadn't seen him in years, but she still worried. Cadence kept away from the family, ever since they had told him that his romantic orientation was disgusting. Ana shook the thoughts away. She was here before, potentially, an Afterlife leader, and all she could think about was her brother. "Am I dead? I don't feel any pain.. not physically anymore... Will I be stuck here for ... whatever the rest of this is?"

Sometimes Rasa wondered when all of this would come to an end. Not just the mortals' lives, but everything. The mortal realm, the afterlife... whatever was beyond the afterlife. Would it ever all come to an end, or would is just keep on going and going and going, forever and ever, no end in sight? The thought had her feeling even more exhausted than she already was. The idea of having to be the Lady of Utopia forever and always was honestly a bit daunting, a bit scary, a bit... well. Tiring. She wondered if she would be destined to be the reigning Utopia Lady forever. She didn't even know of any other mares in Utopia that were interested in the position. In fact, she barely even spoke to any of the other mares in Utopia. She didn't really speak with anyone in Utopia... that had to change. They, as angels, should be a close-knit family, not equines that barely knew one another. Right now, they had no stability. She was the most stable thing about Utopia and that was another scary thought. She really wanted to find a Lord that would be just as stable as she was, if not more so. Would she ever find that? She doubted it. She wasn't looking forward to this upcoming audition. She honestly didn't know who to pick, though she supposed she wouldn't know until she did the audition. For now, she was traveling the realm of Judgement, looking for those that were lost and wandering, waiting for acceptance into either Utopia or the Underworld.
The mare she had just approached had a look of awe on her features, ears straining forward as Rasa spoke to her. Rasa kept a friendly but tired smile on her face as she waited for a response from the stranger. The Appaloosa stranger smiled back at her, speaking after a moment. "Hello, Rasa. So that means you're one of the Afterlife Leaders right? Wow! That's really impressive!" The Lady of Utopia chuckled, giving a sheepish nod of her head. "Yes, I am one of the leaders of Utopia," she confirmed, a bit of pride in her voice despite how goddamn exhausted being said leader of Utopia was making her feel. "I'm Anacrusis... or really just Ana." Rasa chuckled softly again, finding this mare to be quite endearing. There was something about her that made her want to laugh and just talk for a while. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Ana," she said and then looking around the realm as Ana asked the same question so many others had asked her before. "Can you tell me where I am?" Rasa had been through Judgment once before herself. She could not remember who it was that had judged her soul, so long ago it had been. "This is the realm of Judgment. All souls must pass through here before they had go to either Utopia or the Underworld," she explained, speakings slowly and simply, hoping not to frighten the mare if she didn't yet realize that she was dead.
"Am I dead? I don't feel any pain.. not physically anymore... Will I be stuck here for ... whatever the rest of this is?" Rasa smiled a bit sadly as she gave a nod in response to the question of Anacrusis being dead. "Yes, my dear, you are dead. However, you will not be stuck here forever. You can receive a task in order to be judged into Utopia, if you wish, or for the Underworld, if that's... more your speed. If neither suits you, you can always live out the rest of your days in Asphodel, though I don't personally know how anyone can handle living in limbo for the rest of eternity."

Ana continued to study Rasa, the mare gave her a tired smile. One that was familiar to the young Appaloosa. The Bay mare confirmed that she was one of the Afterlife leaders, and she could hardly contain her excitement. "Oh wow! I haven't ever met anyone from the Afterlife before! Let alone any leader. I imagined I would have been intimidated by one of your before, but you seem sweet." Ana gushed again, once more she was unable to keep her bubbly personality inside. Rasa had told her that it was nice to meet her, but she seemed to pull a face that someone who was not very mature would pull. Ana's face scrunched up into an expression of partial disdain. "It is nice to meet you too, Rasa. I mean I don't know about meeting me though! I don't think anyone but my brother even noticed me, or knew I existed at all before." She admitted, but her words came as honesty, and were not wrapped in the sadness she felt about that fact.
The conversation was quickly steered toward where they were. The place of in-between. Where souls came to be judged. Rasa told her that this would be where she could decide to go to Utopia, the Underworld, or stay in this lonely world that she felt too closely mirrored her internal state. Rasa offered for Ana to do something to earn a place in Utopia. She brightened up at the mention of a task, she had never been given a task before. "Oh wow, you'd actually give me something to do? Nobody has ever done that. I was always too sick. I haven't ever run a day in my life, nor been asked to do anything. Everyone was always too worried they would cause my death. I just wanted to live, you know? Wow! A task. I don't want to be stuck here, and I don't think I'd fit in with the Underworld crew... do you?" Ana joked and pulled another face with her tongue stuck out for a few seconds.
"They'd probably tear someone like me apart. No, I definitely want to go home with you. " She said in a decided fashion, but her features were bright. Ana wondered if she had been the happiest soul that Rasa encountered. Who would ever be happier dead? Ana was, but she was free of her illness. She was truly free for the first time in her existence.

This mare seemed like one of the happiest horses she had ever met which was odd, considering the woman had just found out that she was dead, but maybe her mortal life hadn't been all that great or something. "Oh wow! I haven't ever met anyone from the Afterlife before! Let alone any leader. I imagined I would have been intimidated by one of your before, but you seem sweet." Rasa was a bit surprised by being called sweet. It made her smile and she sighed softly, happily, for a moment looking maybe not quite as exhausted. "Thank you, dear," she said with a grin, wondering just why Ana was so nice and warm and friendly. She definitely wasn't Underworld material so Rasa hoped that she would decide to come to Utopia with her. Utopia could use an angel like Ana. Someone bright and full of life, someone that wasn't all doom and gloom. Perhaps she would be the type that wanted to go out to the mortal realm and interact with them as well. "It is nice to meet you too, Rasa. I mean I don't know about meeting me though! I don't think anyone but my brother even noticed me, or knew I existed at all before." The bay angel's eyes widened in surprise, her head cocking slightly to the side as she looked at Ana. "I find that hard to believe. I think you're lovely." It was the truth. There was just something about Ana that she was drawn to, something that made her want to befriend the mare and have her join the ranks of angels.
"Oh wow, you'd actually give me something to do? Nobody has ever done that. I was always too sick. I haven't ever run a day in my life, nor been asked to do anything. Everyone was always too worried they would cause my death. I just wanted to live, you know? Wow! A task. I don't want to be stuck here, and I don't think I'd fit in with the Underworld crew... do you?" The joke at the end of the mare's words had her snorting out a laugh, and then the face that Ana pulled had her laughing all the more and she shook her head, still chuckling as she replied, "No, I do not think you belong in the Underworld. And I would love for you to join Utopia." She grinned in a friendly manner, wings tucking more against her sides. "They'd probably tear someone like me apart. No, I definitely want to go home with you." The Lady of Utopia was pleased to hear that. Now, she just had to think of a task.
"Hmm," she pondered out loud, face scrunching up in thought. "I would like for you to meet someone who is sickly in some way and bring them some joy. It could be a physical or mental ailment that they need help with. Talk to them, get to know them. Perhaps with someone like you speaking with them, they will be more willing to call upon Utopia for help and find more joy in life."

Rasa's features remained mostly neutral, leaning toward friendly. Ana thought she caught a brief glimpse of surprise in the Bay Angel's eyes though. The emotion was fleeting, but the tired smile was not. Rasa murmured out a "Thank you, dear." to her compliment about Rasa seeming sweet. Ana couldn't help but recognize her exhaustion. It was lessened more than before, but the bright girl couldn't help but be attentive. "Are you tired, Rasa? I could watch out for you if you wanted to take a nap!" She gushed again, her offer was out of concern for the Angel she hoped she could call her friend soon. This second life opened up so many opportunities for her. She could finally be normal. She could hang out with mortals and make friends.
Rasa widened her eyes when Ana expressed that it might not be as impressive to meet her. The Lady of Utopia denied that, and stated she thought Ana was lovely. "Oh wow, really? I hardly think I'm special. I think it might take awhile to think about myself differently. I'm not a sickly equine who can't do the same things as others.. But you're the Lady of Utopia, Rasa! You're far more impressive to meet than an ordinary mare like me. I hope that means you would be my friend though. That would make my whole life!" She chattered excitedly. Her eyes sparkled as she spoke about her eagerness to befriend the lovely Utopian.
Her joke had earned a laugh from the Bay Angel, and Ana chuckled along with her. She agreed that Ana wouldn't fit in with the Underworld creatures. She said she would love for Ana to join Utopia. Her grin had lost some more of its weariness. Ana's auds pricked upwards with an eagerness at that comment. "Really!? I would love to join Utopia. Oh wow, I could make so many friends." Ana spoke eagerly again.
Rasa began to contemplate as Ana literally bounced on her toes. She launched herself into a bounding, bouncy run. Ana circled around Rasa as she thought aloud. Ana began to bounce just a few inches in front of Rasa. Her toes danced in anticipation. Rasa finally asked her to find someone else with a sickness and get to know them. It seemed eerily similar to her own life. Ana's family hadn't paid much attention to Utopia, but if they had, maybe she could have had a full life. Ana's eyes widened. This task felt so important. Ana danced a few more steps before she ran a few feet ahead of Rasa. She turned back with a wide smile on her lips. Her front left leg lifted to her chest. Ana would wait to hear what Rasa said before she rushed off. "I won't let you down, Rasa. I can't wait to see you again. When we can go home together!" She laughed again. Her grin was so wide. She had never felt so full of life.
