Silence, utter silence was all that could be heard, could be felt. Not even a single breath of oxygen stirred against the topography, the scent devoid of equine flesh, of flora, of.. everything. Confusion rippled through the lone vixen, as her body connected with something hard, firm. The ground? She wasn't quite sure, her entire mindset was reeling as she tried to orient herself, tried to bring herself to her bearings. Where the was she? Fibers flexed as the vixen rotated herself upwards, bringing her body to lay upon the bottom of her barrel once more, tucking her peach hued daggers beneath her flesh as she extended her nape outwards. her muzzle brushed against the soil beneath her flesh. Yet as she did so there was no scent to it, no mossy tang to tell her what type of bio dome she lingered upon, nothing that could identify where she was at. Lifeless ivory pools blinked, blinking again as the vixen's thorns swiveled, attempting to hear some sort of animal, to listen for the world around her. Nothing... Confusion flared across her grey matter, blooming into almost sheer panic as she tried desperately to figure out what was wrong with her. As if the familiar panic triggered it, her mind began to whirl, to flash as she was thrown backwards in time, into her memories. She was running, the oxygen in her lungs refusing to sustain her, to bring her enough of it's life sustaining force to keep her going, clawing at her rib cage like lightning bolts. Her daggers pounded at the terrain, so unfamiliar to her, and her blind panic she stumbled multiple times, taking several hits to her knees, her hocks. Her family was gone, she had lost them, though the metallic scent of their blood still clung heavily in her nasal cavity, staining her sensory system with its vile scent. Daggers pressed harder, the small vixen propelling herself forward, trying desperately to out run the snarls and howls that snapped so close to her limbs, her body.
Then there was nothing, absolutely nothing. As if her body was suspended, the world ripped right out from below her feet and she was flying. The impact was short lived, as she remembered her limbs snapping, and then everything went dark.... A shuddering breath cleaved through the petite damsel, and with horror she realized it was the first breath she had taken in... how long? The truth slowly began to ice over her mind, her limbs, as the horror of what happened began to settle into her bodice, her mind. I'm dead...? The sound sorted through her mind like a whirlwind, though the panic that was associated with it was edging closer, creeping through every fiber of her being. How could she be dead? And what of her family? Were they here too? Their lives forfeited by the pack of wolves that had demolished them in an ambush? To many thoughts, to much to process, the damsel felt numb and a frenzy all at once. If she was here, what did that mean? Where was even here? What would she become?

Colour Me In from my skin to my bones Cadence found himself in Asphodel for the first time since he had been granted a spot in Utopia. It was ironic how the very equine to invite him in, had tried to tear him a part. The memory was still sour, and the pain he felt that day was still too close for him to be comfortable. Cadence felt some of his memories were tainted by Spike. That he himself was somehow tainted by being taken in by the former Lord. Cadence wondered if Rasa had less faith in him because of this fact. Once upon a time Cadence had admired his predecessor, and now all he had was a burning hatred for him. Cadence hadn't come to Asphodel to take a walk down memory lane, he had felt another soul get dumped into the breach. He moved through the bleak territory that he did not miss in the slightest. Asphodel was like a reflection of his internal world.
Although his mind was more of a prison than Asphodel could ever be. It didn't take long for Cadence to find the mare who seemed to have shown up here recently. She was pale with red hair. Soft pink hues decorated her pale flesh, and from her eyes he could tell that she was without sight. Cadence stopped for a few moments and contemplated what he wanted to say. He hadn't judged a soul before. There was a first for everything, but he wasn't sure he was the one to help her yet. Cadence felt the familiar sensation of doubt creep in, and he had to do his best to keep it from infecting his ability to function. He could tell that she was confused, and parts of her were scared. Cadence pressed a soothing sensation her way, he didn't want her to feel frightened, though he knew most souls felt this way.
They did not all wake with the same crippling disappointment of another failure. Whatever power brought him here must have been pleased that he'd ended up where he did. As if he had proved the judgment of the Afterlife to bring him here as beneficial. Cadence exhaled quietly when he finally decided on what to say. He wanted his soothing to take effect first. "It's alright, you're in Asphodel. A part of the Afterlife. I know that might be alarming, but this is nothing more than a second life. I am Cadence, the Lord of Utopia." He introduced himself cautiously to the mare. His voice was warm, and welcoming though. He hoped that his soothing aura would help her deal with the news of her death.
"Asphodel is the place all souls go to first. It is a place in between Utopia and the Underworld. Tell me, what is your name? What did you do in life?" He spoke again, his voice was still warm and welcoming to the mare. Cadence hoped he wasn't c oming on too strongly, but he really wanted to do this right. He wanted to give her the information that he had not gotten at first. He could only imagine how much more frightening it might be if he wasn't able to see.

BLY Nasal cavities flared as the damsel forced herself to inhale the stale oxygen, bringing with it no sense of life, nothing that could distinguish what was around her, what the world before her was. Her vision was dark, as it had always been. She had been born that way, her lifeless orbs showing her nothing of the world. It had never been a hindrance to her before, not when she had learned to adapt, to listen to her surroundings and adapt. Yet here, it was void. There was no life, no air, nothing, nothing to give her a foot hold on the area where she was at, what she was around. The panic that had begun to form in her belly simmering and low, she did her best to push it back, to force her grey matter to stay collected, but it was an ever loosing battle. Slowly the painted jezabell lifted her petite frame from the surface of the topography, drawing her limbs out from underneath her as she stood in a swift, agile motion. Her bodice felt weightless, as if one wrong move and she would suddenly find herself no longer attached to the world that she was currently on. The thought was enough to snap the tethering hold she had on the flaring panic, sending her nearly spiraling into despair.
It was then that the cooling sensation slipped into her flesh, a wave of calm slowly winking that near blinding insanity out of her mind as she began to settle within herself. Her thorns perked upwards, as she forced the oxygen through her useless nasal cavity once more to pick up the traces of another. His sent was different, masculine definitely, though there was some lingering aspect that she had never experienced before, something she couldn't quite place upon it as her tiara turned towards the direction of him, her lifeless eyes unseeingly landing upon flesh. "It's alright, you're in Asphodel. A part of the Afterlife. I know that might be alarming, but this is nothing more than a second life. I am Cadence, the Lord of Utopia. His tones were warm, soft as he spoke, his tone seemed to be gentle enough to keep from spooking her more. Utopia? Was it really a thing? She felt like she was in a dream, or a nightmare, she couldn't quite figure out which. Surely these were simply the makings of her mind tricking her and she was going to wake up back in her harem once more. But the memories, even though she had not witnessed them per say, were still vivid, the fall, the wolves. She shook the shudder that escaped her fragile frame, focusing upon the behemoth before her once more.
"Asphodel is the place all souls go to first. It is a place in between Utopia and the Underworld. Tell me, what is your name? What did you do in life?" Asphodel, was that this place? The place where she could feel no life, nothing except his presence that was not known to her? "I am Bly." She spoke smoothly, filling the oxygen between them in a gentle and smooth voice. She was not afraid of him, even with that calming force that had washed over her like a tidal wave, she wondered if that was from him. "Why is there no life in this place? I cannot feel anything, except for you?" Smooth, delicate tones slipped from the vixen's muzzle, her lifeless gaze holding upon his visage as she kept her attention upon him, listening to his bodice. He was not lying in the aspect of souls, as she could not hear his breathing, he didn't seem natural essentially. "Why did I come here? I don't understand... I don't feel my family..." Her tones were gentle, low toned, though there was nothing but curiosity in them, understanding almost. She was no longer afraid, she knew that he meant her no harm, she could feel that in her bones, but it still didn't make sense to her. Her mind slowly processed the questions he had asked her, and she offered,"I was a medicine woman, at least that is what they called me. I tried to help those that needed it when I could. When I couldn't, I would lay with them until they passed..." Was this where they had come? Surely not, this land was foreign she had no idea where she had been at the time, what she had become, was this where they came?

Colour Me In from my skin to my bones Cadence waited patiently for his companion to get their bearings before he would say anything more. He knew that this transition could be highly stressful to new souls, but then there was likely also the odd one or two that were accepting. His companion waited until he finished asking their about her life before she responded. The new soul introduced themselves as Bly. The words that flowed from her mouth were smooth. Her voice was gentle, with an obvious feminine lilt. "Bly. It is nice to meet you." Cadence responded to her, his words were as even and gentler as they had previously been. Bly asked her first question about Asphodel, she asked why it was so devoid of life. She explained she felt nothing except him here. Cadence smiled bitterly, more comfortable with displaying expressions in her presence. Cadence envied the realm of Asphodel for one reason alone, it had never known life. "Asphodel knows not what life is. No living creature has ever set foot inside this realm. Asphodel is the domain exclusively for souls. Both members of Utopia and the Underworld are able to walk here, but mortals cannot." Cadence answered her as honestly as he could.
He did want to comfort her, but he also wanted to be as clear as possible when explaining things to new souls if he could be. He paused a few moments, and waited to see if she would have more questions. It was likely, even he had questions when he was a new soul. Cadence couldn't help but feel his entry into the Afterlife was tainted. He was invited in and torn down by the very same equine. He had never felt such betrayal in his life. When Bly spoke again, she asked why she was here and where her family was. Cadence studied her quietly for a few moments. She was the only soul here that he could feel. There were no other urgent tugs in within his existence for aid. Only hers. Cadence felt a pit in his stomach at the thought of his own sister, and the loss of his family for a brief moment. It was fleeting. "You came here, Bly, because you have died." Cadence told her with an earnest pause to let the news sink in. He did not want to assume she was prepared for these words, and tread cautiously.
"Not all who die come to Asphodel. You are the only soul I noticed. Perhaps they are in the mists. But I cannot tell you where they are." He answered her again, his words were decisive, but compassionate. Throughout this entire conversation, Cadence had not heard her ask once to be granted sight. It was a curious thing, for that was something he himself would have asked for. He knew not everyone was like him, so he decided not to bring it up unless she decided to. Cadence would not force his own ideas on others if they did not want them. Bly went on to explain that she was a healer of sorts, and a mortal ferryman for those who were dying. His ears piqued in curiosity as she explained. Cadence wondered if she wanted a place in Utopia. They could use more angels, especially those who had compassion.
"I see. That is quite a noble background you carry, Bly. Tell me... if given the choice, where would you like to go in the Afterlife? There are three choices. You can stay here in Asphodel with the others who prefer neither Utopia or the Underworld. You could join Utopia upon the completion of a task, or you may summon one of the Underworld leaders to aid you in your journey to the realm of the vile. The choice is yours alone to make, though I will help you in any way I can until you make that decision. I do hope you would like to join Utopia though. You sound like exactly the type of Angel we need right now." Cadence offered her. He was wholly committed to the idea that the dead should choose their path in the Afterlife. Nobody was his enemy until they made that decision.

"Bly. It is nice to meet you." His tones were gentle and smooth, it seemed everything so far about him was that way, at least to the senses that worked. Obviously she could not see him, the sight of her pale ivory pools was still gone, an ever existent black around her. Yet she found herself wondering what he may look like. Was he tall? Was he short? She didn't even attempt to think of colors, for what she imagined they were to look like she would never know. "As it is with you as well Cadence." She offered the behemoth, attempting to remember she had been raised with manners and was not some barbaric heathen that had been thrown out with the wolves, even in death. "Asphodel knows not what life is. No living creature has ever set foot inside this realm. Asphodel is the domain exclusively for souls. Both members of Utopia and the Underworld are able to walk here, but mortals cannot." His explanation was simple and smooth, as she tipped her lopes forward to catch his tones with ease. Her unseeing pools were trained upon him, though her tiara was cocked slightly sideways, the only indication to a trained eye that she was indeed blind as she took in what he spoke of. The Underworld? Utopia? They were real places? It was like she had stepped into a fairy tale from when she was a foal, the stories their parents used to speak to them about in regards to keeping them in line. Yet as she stood there, she could not sense oxygen, could not sense anything besides him. It was like he was the only living creature, and from what he was telling her, it was the opposite. "So this is where we come when we die?" A simple question, devoid of emotions, but rather curiosity. There was no changing the fate of the fact that she was here, and that was meaning she was dead. She remember distinctly what had happened, and yet, she felt calm. Perhaps it was the calming demeanor that had come when the behemoth had showed up, she wasn't sure. "You came here, Bly, because you have died." He spoke the clarifying words, and she found herself nodding her small tiara. The memories flashed in her mind smoothly, though she blocked them out the best she could before she spoke once more. "I remember it clearly, I fell from something, being chased by wolves... Though the way I jerked awake here, I thought I was dreaming for a moment, except that I couldn't sense anything.. I've always gotten by with sensing and yet there was nothing.." She let the shiver take its course down her delicate spinal column, not wanting to admit to the fact that it was perhaps that rather then death itself that had disturbed her so. "Not all who die come to Asphodel. You are the only soul I noticed. Perhaps they are in the mists. But I cannot tell you where they are." So her family, they could be dead and gone, or they could still be alive. She supposed she would never find out, considering he could not sense anybody other than she. She felt the thought sadden her heart, would she ever see her family again? She was not sure, but she supposed she couldn't dwell on the minor facts of that. You sound like exactly the type of Angel we need right now." His next words nearly caught her off guard, as a delicate chuckle escaped her parted pink muzzle. "I don't know about noble, I am simply a blind mare who was looking for a purpose with her life, something that I could actually do that would not just leave me helpless and weak...." She offered the words smoothly, letting her tones die for only a moment, before she continued one. "I don't think I would be a fit for the Underworld however, if it is anything like they told us in our kids tales and such. I don't think horns would suit me..." She gave another chuckle, shaking her tiara lightly, the slight nervousness she had begun to feel slipping from her shoulder blades with ease. "You said you were Lord of Utopia correct? What is it like? What is your purpose there?" Again her vocal cords became devoid of emotion, but simple curiosity lingered there, the interest in what her life could hold beyond a mortal body. She knew that she could not exist here, not in this place where there was... nothing. It would drive her mad. Though she was not sure she could live in the pits of hell either. She was no saint, but that did not mean she wanted to be subjected to the articles of hellfire. So she waited, curious to see what the behemoth would say to her about his life. status - completeword count: 0926tagged: ➳ T e c h n o ➳muse: goodtimeline: first post on we.notes: sorry its crap.

Colour Me In from my skin to my bones TW: mention of suicide.
Bly returned his pleasantries, and he smiled though she could not see it. "Well thank you, Bly." He offered her with a light chuckle. It had been awhile since he had met anyone who told him it was nice to meet him. That went with the territory though, not everyone was going to like you. He had enemies simply because he had taken the position as Lord, and he was well aware of that. She responded next to his words about Asphodel not recognizing life. She asked if that meant that this was where souls went when they died. Cadence noted that she was insightful, and he nodded though she could not see him. "Yes, the souls that do know vanish into the mists come here. Sometimes those souls join us later, but not always. The souls that come here will either be judged or remain in Asphodel." He answered her affirmatively.
Bly didn't seem fazed or surprised by his admission that she was indeed dead. She instead talked about her death as though it were a dream, she thought it might have been. Cadence felt uncomfortable as she described falling before her death, he knew what that was like. She had been chased by literal wolves, not figurative ones that had plagued him. She talked too about how she had gone through life utilizing her other senses, and that it seemed absent here in Asphodel. It was almost like Asphodel was a void of sorts. Cadence let out a soft 'hm' of interest as she explained that part of her life. "I am sorry, Bly. That sounds very disorienting. I would say perhaps to give it some time, perhaps you will be able to adapt your use of senses in the Afterlife as well. It may take more time, but I don't doubt it is possible." He offered her. It might be harder considering most mortals didn't have the reference of the Afterlife.
Bly was humble, as she denied the claim that she might be considered noble. That she was simply trying to find a purpose in life. Cadence admired her for that. She had done what he could not. He sometimes wished he could be more like Bly, or others who could search for purpose rather than cave into the pressures he placed on himself. Bly, thankfully, stated she would not likely fit in with the Underworld, although he already had the feeling she would say that. Cadence always wanted to offer souls a choice, even if he didn't agree with them. "You know, some Utopians like horns more than wings. That isn't as defining as the barbaric traits of the Underworld inhabitants. I think you're a far cry from Underworld material, but I give every soul the same choice when I meet them." He explained with a light laugh once more.
Her next question caught him a bit off guard. It was the first time he had been asked what being Lord was like. Cadence offered her his own nervous chuckle. "You're the first one to ask me that, Bly. I won't say that the position is not hard work, because that would be a lie. It is a lot of work, and I am still new to it. Lady Rasa had been the one to hold all of Utopia in her hooves long before I came along. My purpose is to ensure the balance of the mortal realm remains stable along with Lady Rasa. So that the world as we know it does not devolve into depraved chaos. To help those who need help, and to judge and comfort the souls as they come through the Afterlife." He answered her as truthfully as he could. This was purely Cadence's view on what it meant to be a leader of the Afterlife.
"So Bly, since you've decided that you don't want to remain here, or join the Underworld, then that means I can provide a task for you to join Utopia. I would like you to share your experiences with a fellow healer, perhaps teach them something they might not have known. Maybe it would help them help others find purpose in life just as you found for yourself. Does that sound like a fair deal to you?" He inquired of her now, she could choose to deny or accept his task. Cadence didn't want to underestimate her. Bly it seemed had lived a very full, albeit difficult life.
