Evanska's mind was buzzing with possibilities. She loped through the forest, her eyes focused on the path ahead. She paid no mind to any of the trees that passed right through her. Someday soon, she was going to be able to lead missions with seraphs at the helm, taking on missions in Wild Equines in the name of Utopia. She just had to speak to Cadence and Rasa about it and hopefully get their approval. She couldn't really think of a reason that they wouldn't approve of her idea. It wasn't like it was dangerous or anything for any of the seraphs. Nothing here could touch him. The only complication was organization. Evanska had not really paid much attention to any of the politics in the world much, so that was something she was going to have to learn fast if she was going to be able to do something like this. Eventually, she wanted to be able to head off on missions on her own without going over the logistics with Rasa and Cadence. She had a lot of learning and research to do.
That was what she was doing now, actually. She was heading through the Free lands toward the allianced territories. She figured she would start with the Light Kingdom first. Things were rather busy there, what with the drama involving the Versai and all. Evanska didn't know exactly what that meant or what had happened, so that's why she was heading that way now. She needed to learn what had happened and its causes. Horses had muttered about in the Free lands, but details were never dropped. And, it was better to get it directly from the source rather than filtered through rumors anyway.
She didn't get far though before she felt the eerie sensation of being watched. Usually this didn't bother her given she couldn't be touched by anything here, but something about its presence was off. She glanced around, slowing down her pace, stepping through a particularly large tree as she did so. Her ears pricked and struggled to pick up any kind of noise. She couldn't hear anything but the familiar sounds of forest - breezes moving through plants, small animals moving through the ground and climbing up the trees, birds chirping. But something was making the hair on the back of her neck stand up. Evanska was a fan of listening to her instincts and this was one of those times. Taking in a deep breath, she headed toward the eerie feeling.
She burst out of the forest and into a wide open clearing. What she saw definitely set her hair on edge. It was something long and sinewy, standing on only two legs. It had an odd texture to its skin... almost like feathers? Scales? It was difficult to tell. It was primarily gray but some black and white spots. Evanska's wide eyes took in the instrument it was clutching in its feet. It was long and metallic and it was emmitting some kind of blue light. It scanned over the trees, making beeping noises. The creature made some kind of clucking sound and the blue light stopped. Evanska started as the creature suddenly turned its face toward her. It had four eyes and antennae sprouting from its forehead. Evanska blinked several times, wondering if she was seeing things. The creature was still there every time she opened her eyes.
It made clucking noises and stepped toward her. It was a full two feet taller than Evanska was. When it was about a yard away, it stuck the instrument toward her and turned the blue light on. Evanska squinted against the harsh light, but felt nothing else otherwise. The creature tilted its head, its antennae twitching. It moved the device around her. It never beeped. Faster than Evanska could react, the creature ran toward her, thrusting the device out. The mare flinched, but if the creature meant to strike her, the blow never came. She glanced down to where the device was touching her leg. It went through her.
Of course, she thought, feeling incredibly foolish for forgetting that she could not be touched by anything here. Not even this weird creature and its weird instrument. The creature made a sound of alarm that sounded remarkably like a bird screech. It put the device down and ran toward her, paws or feet or whatever they were, grasping out to grab her. They slid through nothingness while Evanska stood perfectly still. She refused to flinch this time. The creature made more noises, stepping its whole body through her, turning this way and that, confusion and panic saturating its otherwise alien calls.
It backed away from her then and Evanska stuck her tongue out at it. "That's right, you can't touch me," she said, smirking. "What are you?" the creature said suddenly, startling Evanska again. Why was it talking to her now when it couldn't before? Because all it heard before were birds, she realized. "I'm a seraph and my name is Evanska. What are you doing here?" she asked, nodding toward the instrument. "Your planet is suitable for inhabitation," the creature replied. Evanska had no idea what a planet was. But before she could ask that question, the creature was talking again. "We want to replace you," it said, aiming the device at her again. And again it registered no beeping. Replace her? Yeah, she didn't think so. "Yeah, there'll be no replacing here. I think you and your device should leave," she took a few steps toward the creature. It backed away from her. "I won't ask twice," she said again, taking steps toward the creature now. It backed away some more, but seemed hesitant. Evanska had no idea what this creature was and whether or not it was telling the truth, but she wanted nothing to do with something that wanted to "replace" her. "I said leave," she hissed and ran at the creature. It fled before her, scrambling over the terrain, running around and occasionally into trees. Evanska ran after it, not stopping until this creature was well out of the borders of Wild Equines.
She chased it for a long time, watching with amusement as it tumbled over rocks, tree roots, and fallen branches. While it hissed as it ran into water, Evanska ran through with no trouble and no splashes to indicate her own movement. This seemed to frighten it even further and it picked up the pace. Evanska put on a burst of speed, but it was short-lived as the creature grabbed onto some kind of vine and scrambled up it, tucking the device into its armpit. Evanska jumped, trying to grab hold of the vine with her teeth. Predictably, the vine went through her body, but the creature didn't seem to know that. Its panicked cries had turned away from horse-like and back to bird-like. Evanska glanced upward then and saw another... device? though it was so much bigger than the one the creature had been holding. It seemed to float in the air. The vine was snatched into the device as soon as the creature made it. Evanska met the creature's eyes once again, staring deep into the yellow depths of them. She stuck her tongue out again and this time she broke out into a dance, her hooves churning up the earth, her tail lashing against her sides. "You better run!" she yelled. The creature let out a final screech and some kind of door slid closed. The device climbed up higher into the air, making only soft, high-pitched sounds as it did so. Then it was gone, taking off so fast that all it left was a gust of wind in its wake.
I might need to tell Rasa and Cadence something else too, she wondered, staring at the place the device had disappeared to. Maybe there was another problem that the seraphs could solve that didn't involve Wild Equines politics at all.
timeline technically the day after she meets with raziel and before cadence loses his position - however this is noncanon lol
