It's like a war I fight inside myself I always lose and I can't help Fall for the beating of my glass heart Flurries drifted down from the clouded morning sky, the sun's rays just barely flickering through the overcast heavens. Through these clouds flew the blackened figure of an angel, his wings giving powerful flaps to keep himself airborne. He did not feel the cold, unable to feel anything to do with the mortal realm, but after several trips here - mainly to visit his best friend - he was used to the lack of interaction with the mortal plain. Today was another scheduled visit with Nessa, the mortal girl he had met when they were both foals. Since their first meeting, the two beings had kept in consistent contact and Leviathan was always looking forward to their next meeting. Today, they had decided to meet at Crystal Pools for a venture through the Free Lands. It felt strange to be going to do something fun, with Utopia and the Underworld at odds with one another, but Levi needed a break from all of the stress and being around Nessa was always very soothing. She was so much fun to be around and never failed to ease his worries, no matter what they were. She was his best friend, had been since they were just innocent foals. Levi wasn't so innocent anymore. He had been to Hell. He was the son of Rasa, Lady of Utopia, and darkness pulsed through his veins. Half of his heritage was demonic. He was not a full angel, but rather a Daeva: half angel, half demon - but fully devoted to Utopia. Banking left, circling through the snow-filled clouds, Levi allowed his figure to drift lower and lower. The flurries continued to gently drift around him but instead of settling on his pelt and melting, they simply passed through him. Even his wings did not disturb the swirls of snow. He looked nothing more than a ghost, translucent, nothing about him solid while he was within the realm of mortality. He had been born in Utopia, had never known a day of life as a mortal, and therefore... he could not interact with their world. Usually, he did not mind, but he would be a liar if he said it didn't break his heart a little more each time he saw Nessa, unable to give her the hug he knew she had been wanting ever since they first met. She had attempted to hug him upon their first meeting but had fallen through him instead - quite alarming for the both of them, since it had been Leviathan's first visit to her world. But he'd never stopped coming back to see her. He doubted he ever would. He could never abandon his best friend! Already, the large stallion was grinning as he landed upon the surface of the earth, folding his wings against his sides and breathing in the oxygen around him. He did not catch Nessa's scent just yet, but that could also be because the wind was not working in his favor. Wondering if she might be nearby, Leviathan whinnied, ears perked and waiting to hear a returning greeting. Crystal Pools was such a lovely place. Nessa loved peering into those crystalline depths, fascinated by just how clear the water was. As if it was not even there. As a tiny filly, she might well have accidentally drowned herself in her fascination, had the rest of her family not been there to haul her out. It had hardly seemed possible for her head to be underwater when looking down it seemed so clear. Even now, waiting at the place she and Leviathan had agreed upon for their visit, she could not help peering curiously at the nearest pool. She could feel Ophion's eyes on her and knew her older brother was probably ready and waiting to jump to the rescue again. He had been little more than a yearling when she first had stuck her head in the water to investigate, but he remembered the experience. Especially as the tale had been told more than once since it had occurred. She cast him a grin, playful yet also reassuring. As curious as she was about the pools, she knew better now than to go sticking her head under. Especially for too long. Much as she looked forward to the day she could finally touch her best friend, she was not in any great hurry to leave her mortal body just yet.
Giggling a little at the expression on her brother's face when she edged just a little bit closer to one of the pools, all such further intent in that vein was forgotten in an instant when a familiar whinny reached her harks. Whinnying loudly in return, Nessa spun with all the grace of a dancer and darted towards a familiar inky figure she quickly spotted. Despite his ghostly appearance, she did not hesitate to approach, beaming brightly as she drew near.
'Levi!' she greeted warmly, brown and hazel eyes dancing with delight, 'It's so good to see you!' Character;; Nessa (Ophion in the background) Tagged;; fleabittengray w/Leviathan Notes;; <3 Timeline;; 2 years; late winter, morning, before the war.

It's like a war I fight inside myself I always lose and I can't help Fall for the beating of my glass heart Levi's horned head moved from side to side, a faint but content smile on his lips. He needed this meeting with Nessa, needed to see her again and forget all the troubles in Utopia even just for a short while. He knew his mother was getting more and more stressed about the situation. He wanted to help and do what he could, but so far, she hadn't given him any tasks other than keeping his sister, Hayyel, safe and distracted from the drama. She was still quite young, after all, and yet Leviathan wondered just why she should be so sheltered. In his opinion, it was just setting her up for failure. He wanted his sister to be able to protect and defend not just herself, but Utopia and their allies. She was old enough now to start learning about the Bad, not just the Good. He knew why Rasa wanted to protect her, because she hadn't been able to protect him from the Underworld, but... what if it was the wrong approach? Thankfully, a cheerful and familiar whinny answered his call, dragging him out of his shadowed thoughts and causing his smile to widen all the more. His ears perked, his wings fanning out slightly with excitement. Laughter fell from his lips as he saw the way Nessa was now gallivanting toward him from wherever she had previously been. He yearned to embrace her, to be able to nuzzle against her, but he knew that he couldn't. Not until -- but he didn't want to think about that. As much as he wanted to hug his best friend, he knew what that would mean. In order for them to touch, she would have to die. Such a morbid thought, really... 'Levi!' Hearing his name from her lips had him feeling warm, prancing forward a few steps toward her and whinnying again, a happy sound. 'It's so good to see you!' Fanning his wings out completely at his sides, smiling brightly, Levi let the flutter once. "It's good to see you too, Nessa! How have you been? What's the latest news in the mortal world?"Tagged: Indi Words: 354 Character: LeviathanNotes: Wholesome babies <3 Timeline: 2 years 10 months, late winter, morning, before the war

Seeing the ghostly figure of her best friend sent such a thrill of joy through Nessa, for which there were hardly words to describe it. Ever since that very first time meeting him, Nessa had looked forward to every single subsequent meeting. True, that first encounter had not been without a little bit of a figurative "bump in the road" so to speak, considering how alarming for both youngsters it had been when she had fallen right through Leviathan. The two infants had certainly not been prepared for such a thing to happen and it had been rather frightening for them both.
Neither Mama nor Infected Mushroom had been able to provide much in the way of answers when she got home, but fortunately when she and Mama had gone to Eden to see Levi again, his Mama had been able to explain things. It had been a lot to take in, especially that her best and dearest friend could not at all interact with the mortal plane. Which just so happened to include her own mortal self as well. Only when her immortal soul fled her mortal body would things change, but that was a morbid vein of thought she did not often contemplate.
For the most part, Nessa was just happy to see him. To talk with him just as long as she could. To explore their surroundings together. To just enjoy the time spent together, no matter what they did.
Hazel and brown gaze was warm as she greeted him with sincere joy, hopping from hoof to hoof in the sheer excitement of the visit. A delighted laugh escaped her as he fanned his wings out wide, fluttering them once. Much as she was in no hurry to surrender her mortal life, she could not deny that she was looking forward to acquiring a lovely pair of wings someday. To be able to fly! What a delightful thing that would be. But not too soon, hopefully.
"It's good to see you too, Nessa!" Levi returned her greeting, a bright smile upon his maw, "How have you been? What's the latest news in the mortal world?"
'I am well,' she answered with a nod. Stepping closer, gaze brimming with happiness, she added sincerely, 'Even better than well right this minute.' Head tilting slightly, she considered his next inquiry, regarding news in the mortal world. To be honest, plenty of events of import had a habit of bypassing the innocent damsel. Sometimes simply because she struggled to grasp some of the darker, more horrific realities of the world, courtesy of her mother's unwitting influence. Sometimes because her brothers tried to shield her from truly horrible things. She might not be quite as naively unaware as her mother; from Levi, after all, she had learned that there was not only Good, but also Bad.
What precisely that meant and how to keep an eye out for it was something she was still learning.
So she probably was not the best source of news in the mortal realm for anything of real importance. But for more innocent news, she did have at least a few things she had picked up from family and friends. She was happy to tell of new members of the family -- both born and those her Mama had in essence adopted -- in particular. But there were other cheerful little tidbits here and there. And the less cheerful admission that, 'A lot of everyone at home seem very... unhappy. Or angry. Or a little of both, maybe. Stressed, I guess.'
Warm gaze on Levi, she then queried, 'And what's the latest news in the immortal world?' Character;; Nessa Tagged;; fleabittengray w/Leviathan Notes;; Love these two <33 Timeline;; 2yo; late winter, morning, before the war.

It's like a war I fight inside myself I always lose and I can't help Fall for the beating of my glass heart Nessa had been his best friend basically all of his life. He enjoyed every second he got to spend with her. Of course, being a member of the Afterlife, he had limited time he could spend in the mortal realm, but he tried to visit as often as possible. He felt like it was more important now than ever, with how angry mom was with the Underworld. He didn't know what was going to happen, but it wasn't going to be good, whatever it was. He was worried about her, and Hayyel, and Lat. But he was also very worried about Nessa and her family. They were mortals, after all, and mortals were much more fragile than the dead. The living couldn't even hurt a Daeva like him! But he could manipulate somewhat the world of mortals. He was able to give miracles (his first had been to heal Dark Woods, to show Reth that Utopia was still there and listening) and he'd discovered he could visually project into someone's mind. Maybe he should try that with Nessa some time! And show her how beautiful Utopia was. She would probably like that. The way the mortal girl hopped from hoof to hoof with excitement when he called out to her, and they finally met, had him positively beaming. His smile was bright and cheerful. 'I am well,' Nessa stepped closed toward him and the ghostly Daeva felt his heard sore and break at the same time. He wished he could give her a hug. He knew that she would thoroughly enjoy that. Nessa loved hugs! 'Even better than well right this minute.' Leviathan chuckled, giving a nod of agreement. His day always drastically improved whenever he was with Nessa. She was great. The greatest, actually. "Good! That's good to hear!" he said all too cheerfully, though he imagined their conversation might take a more serious turn. There was no avoiding what was happening in the world, especially with his mother involved in it all. 'A lot of everyone at home seem very... unhappy. Or angry. Or a little of both, maybe. Stressed, I guess.' The boy sighed softly, gently, but still offered an encouraging smile. "It's gonna be okay. I'm sure of it!" But he could not deny the dangers that her and her family may be in. 'And what's the latest news in the immortal world?' With her warm eyes on him, Levi could not lie. He hesitated, though, not wanting to worry his best friend - but also unable to lie to her. "Not so great. Mom's very upset. Angry. All of the Utopians are. There's a lot of tension between Utopia and the Underworld and..." He paused, frowning then as he looked at her with worried eyes. "I just have a bad feeling about things, is all." Another pause. Leviathan lifted his horned head, snorting softly. "You know I'd do anything to protect you and your family, right, Nessa? No matter what happens, I'll find a way to protect you."Tagged: Indi w/ Nessa Words: 502 Character: LeviathanNotes: They're precious <3 Timeline: 2 years 10 months, late winter, morning, before the war

It was not the easiest thing, to have a best friend whose very existence was so very different from your own. The fact that they could not even touch had been no easy fact for such an affectionate damsel to overcome as a small child. Sometimes, without even thinking, Nessa had tried some kind of contact… only to be reminded of the reality of their situation.
Someday, she would be able to touch him. Give him the hug she had tried on that very first day that had ended in such consternation and confusion for them both. Be able to interact with him as freely as she interacted with the rest of the world she knew now.
Given what that would require, of course… well, it was a conundrum of equal parts looking forward to, yet also in no hurry for it to happen. And perhaps, given how confusing it was, Nessa did not exactly spend a whole lot of time dwelling on it. For the most part, she just enjoyed getting to see Levi and spending as much time with him as possible. It was rare for her to feel too downhearted about the difficulties in their friendship. Especially at times like this, in his presence!
A chuckle sounded from her dearest friend as he nodded agreement, answering cheerfully, ”Good! That’s good to hear!”
She beamed in return, hazel and brown eyes alight with joy merely in having the opportunity to enjoy this time together. Even if… well… there were some less than exciting topics that came up soon after as they conversed. Still, her smile returned quickly as Levi offered an encouraging smile, saying, ”It’s gonna be okay. I’m sure of it!”
Nodding, she answered, ’I think you’re right. I just wish everyone wasn’t so unhappy. I wish I could make them all feel better. Even Mama can’t seem to cheer them all up.’ That last seemed like such an impossibility to Nessa. Mama always made her feel better now matter how low she might somehow be feeling. And she had always seemed to have a gift for cheering others up to. That it no longer seemed to be working was… baffling to the innocent damsel.
Concern flickered into the painted femme’s expression as Levi hesitated, something in that hesitation telling her that things were not so wonderful in Utopia. Strange to think such a thing was possible in that realm Levi had described to her from time to time.
”Not so great. Mom’s very upset. Angry. All of the Utopians are. There’s a lot of tension between Utopia and the Underworld and…” Again, her best friend paused, the frown upon his features breaking her heart with longing to have been able to hug him and help him feel better. ”I just have a bad feeling about things, is all.”
Though Nessa nodded, before she could come up with anything comforting to say, Levi was snorting softly as he continued, ”You know I’d do anything to protect you and your family, right, Nessa? No matter what happens, I’ll find a way to protect you.”
His words were so earnest, so sincere… and Nessa felt her heart skip a beat, followed by an indescribable flutter. Though on other occasions she might have laughed, reassured him that there was nothing to worry about given her significant lack of understanding when it came to danger in the world, beyond knowing that wolves would eat her if they could and that there was Bad in the world. But something in the way he had spoken left her instead nodding solemnly, answering softly, with the utmost degree of absolute trust, ’I know.’ Character;; Nessa Tagged;; fleabittengray w/Leviathan Notes;; <33 Timeline;; 2yo; late winter, morning, before the war.

Leviathan It's like a war I fight inside myself I always lose and I can't help Fall for the beating of my glass heart There was very little that Levi wouldn't do to keep his best friend safe from the dangers of the Underworld. She reminded him a bit of his sister, Hayyel, in the way she did not always see the troubles and dangers in the world. She was so trusting and kind and Leviathan really liked that about her. She was able to get him out of his shell of seriousness (usually, when they weren't discussing such hardships as they currently were, at least) and he just thoroughly enjoy having her in his life - even if they could not physically interact. It was strange, being a Daeva, unable to interact with the mortal realm. Even now, his hooves did not quite touch the surface of the earth and if he dared to go into one of the pools here, he would make no ripples or splashes on the surface of the water. He was more or less a ghost, holding no physical body in the mortal world because he'd never been a mortal himself. A strange concept, perhaps, but it was his reality. ’I think you’re right. I just wish everyone wasn’t so unhappy. I wish I could make them all feel better. Even Mama can’t seem to cheer them all up.’ Ah, Kida. The world just needed to be full of more Nessa's and Kida's, honestly! It would be a much more peaceful place, no doubt. Leviathan sighed, soft and a bit sad, but offered a small smile despite his fretting. "I am sure you and Kida do bring more joy to those around you than you realize, Nessa," he assured his friend, wishing that he could reach out to touch her. She sure brought him a lot of joy and happiness. Just being around her brightened up his entire day, his entire week! She was a great friend. When he spoke of doing whatever it took to keep her, and her family, safe she made no jokes or laughter but instead nodded solemnly and Levi felt his heart swell with adoration for the other youthful equine. ’I know.’ He took a deep breath, giving a bob of his horned head, his smiling growing a bit, despite the topic of conversation. "No matter what, yeah? I promise." And this time, he did reach out, though stopping before he could actually "touch" Nessa. It was still a bit spooky to just go through someone when he tried to interact with them, but at least he could offer her his friendship. For now, that would have to be enough.
