It seemed a lifetime since last Kendziora had seen her sister, Karandras. They had been spending a day together, as they often had during their foalhood days, in Dimato Meadow together before heading back to their parents. Karandras had always gone home to their mother, The Shadow. Knif'nienar had always gone home to their father, Kratos. And Kendziora? She had always gone home to whichever parent she felt like dealing with on that particular evening. Sometimes their mother, sometimes their father. That particular night, she had opted to stay with their father and she had gone home with Nar.
And that was the last time either of the two girls had seen their sister.
Kendzi could not deny that she often struggled with a feeling of guilt. Maybe if she had just gone home with Karandras instead, their sister would not have vanished without a trace. Of course, whatever had happened to Kara could have occurred to her too. Or maybe Nar would have been the one to vanish instead. There was simply no way to know for certain what had happened or why or how or what could have been done to change the outcome. But Kendzi still felt guilty, no matter what the logical half of her brain might try to tell her.
Not long after Kara's disappearance, their mother and father had both vanished too. Odd, considering their mother had been a Versai and their father had been a Dark herd leader. What would have caused them both to vanish around the same period of time, Kendzi could not begin to imagine. Nor had she managed to figure out if any of it was related or not. She had tried, certainly, though before she'd at least gotten old enough to be taken seriously by adults, there had not been a whole lot of investigating she had been able to manage. At least now that she was two years old, it was easier. Equines were more likely to answer her questions instead of merely fussing over the fact that she was little and without parents or home.
Not that any effort to actually find a home had ever been a success.
Kendzi snorted softly at the thought. Though she and Nar had trialed a few equines over the past year and a bit, none had ever quite fit. None had ever been the sort of equines they could see themselves living with. So they continued with their nomadic life. It might not be ideal, but at least there was some hope that it would lead to finding Kara? Character;; Kendziora Tagged;; fleabittengray w/Abrasia Notes;; They originally met here

abrasia Because I'm the devil who's searching for redemption TW: Psychosis, mentions of sexual assault Just when Abrasia thought it was going to be safe to live again, the world erupted into flames yet again. She could hear the screams already from the war around them, could hear the pain and suffering. She knew that someone was coming for her, but who? Would it be Utopia? The Underworld? She feared death, though she had already died. Back when Underoath had ripped her heart from her chest and devoured it right before her very eyes. She could picture his maw now, covered in her blood as she cowered away from him, broken and bleeding. She could still feel the ache of him on top of her. Shuddering, the silver grullo mare closed her eyes and walked faster. But she could not walk forever with her eyes closed. It was dangerous. A moment more of blackness behind her eyelids and then she was blinking them open, snorting wildly, red-flecked green eyes glancing around her with paranoia written within them. Where was she? She didn't remember leaving the Keep. Somewhere in the Free Lands? When had she gotten here? How long had she been here? Swallowing down a lump forming in her throat, Abrasia forced herself to try and focus on her surroundings. There was a mountain here, no, a volcano. Heat radiated from it, as well as seeping up faintly through the earth's crust beneath her hooves. She could feel the heat in her bones, in the empty cavity of her chest, growing hotter and hotter by the second. Her hooves were going to melt. Yelping at the thought, Abrasia spooked, leaping into the air. All four feet left the ground at once as she bucked and twisted in the air, frantically trying to remove the imaginary flames from her feet. Upon landing back on the earth, she stumbled, nearly falling face first into the warm soil below. She caught herself at the last second, breathing heavily, panting. She forced herself to stand up squarely. She could still feel the flames around her, consuming her. Another glance around and she spotted another equine. She did not recognize her, despite having met her before, albeit briefly. She blinked at the other mare, eyes going wide and startled. How long had she been there? Was she really there? "Are you real?" she asked, her voice wavering. "Am I on fire?" Such odd questions, she knew, but that was a good sign that she knew the questions were odd. That meant she wasn't so far gone in her insanity that she couldn't make some sense of the world around her. Casually meandering, with no current destination firmly in mind, Kendziora could not say that she was particularly familiar with the locale into which she had wandered. Fortunately, she knew how to retrace her steps and how to get back to where she and Nar had agreed to meet up later on that afternoon. It was not often that the sisters split up, given that their other sister had vanished without a trace. However, there were rare occasions, such as this, where they hoped that maybe they could cover more ground and perhaps finally find some clue that would lead to finding their missing sister. Kendzi did not think she had ever been to this place before and curiosity was enough to draw her further along. Invisible brows furrowed a little at the sense of heat coming from the earth itself. While spring was well on its way towards summer and temperatures were rising, she did not think that would account for this sensation. It certainly did not account for a yelp that hauled Kendzi's attention forward to take in a silver grullo leaping into the air, bucking and twisting, clearly in a panic.
Blinking in confusion, the amber champagne dun peered curiously at the stranger. Or... maybe not a stranger? There was something familiar about the other femme. Considering the many equines she had met, especially after the disappearance of three members of her family, the two-year-old filly supposed it was hardly surprising that she might encounter someone who seemed familiar. Or whom she had met before. Searching her memory did not call forth remembrance of a name for this silver grullo mare, however. Perhaps they had merely crossed paths? The only thing she could recall beyond the sense that she had seen this mare before was a feeling of concern.
Which, considering what she had just seen, might explain why she would have felt concern upon that first meeting if it had been anything like this.
"Are you real?" No more time for pondering, Kendzi found herself the focus of the mare's wide, startled gaze as she continued to query, "Am I on fire?"
Not exactly the most common questions one might hear when meeting someone new -- or getting reaquainted, perhaps, as the case might be. However, not exactly completely foreign questions either. Nar sometimes struggled with reality and had similarly odd questions. Rather than simply dismissing the older female as being strange and leaving, Kendzi smiled, nodding slightly as she answered, 'Yes, I am real. My name is Kendziora, but you can call me Kendzi if you like.' Looking the mare over carefully, she added, 'The ground is kind of warm, but you are not on fire. Would you like to move to someplace else?' Perhaps if she was away from that sense of heat emanating from the ground, she would not feel like she was on fire? abrasia Because I'm the devil who's searching for redemption TW: Psychosis Living in a near constant state of unreality was exhausting. She had not seen her daughter seeing fleeing the Isle. She did not know what had ever become of Wendigo, and it was driving her further into her insanity. Wendy had been able to help her out of her psychotic episodes, knew just what to do to keep her mother calm, despite being mute. Abrasia didn't know what to do without her, but was much too cowardly to go after Wendigo herself. The silver grullo was in no shape to be fighting anyone, especially those that had raided her family's home. How long ago had it been, now, since she'd stepped foot in the Isle? How much time had passed since she walked the halls, or looked for shells along the beach? Abrasia was sure she would never return. She couldn't face it. Perhaps she would stay in the Keep, as a permanent refuge, if they let her. Surely Thomasin would let her. Right? Her sides heaving with each panicked breath she took, her body tensed to the point of being awkward and rigid, Abrasia blinked at the younger mare that was standing just a short distance away. She was not in the right state of mind to recognize her, not by sight or scent or name. To Abrasia, this girl was a total stranger. She would be lucky if she could even recognize her own reflection, should she glance into water, at the moment. Thankfully, the younger mare was also a kind soul, and not the type to take advantage of the situation. Abrasia was also comforted by the fact it was another mare, and not a stallion - after Oath's attack, she had become all the more skittish around men. 'Yes, I am real. My name is Kendziora, but you can call me Kendzi if you like.' Abrasia gave a wide-eyed by otherwise blank stare at the youth. Kendzi. Kendzi. She repeated the name in her mind several times over, trying to remember it, but as soon as she stopped thinking about the name it began to slip away. "I can't remember..." she murmured, frowning, eyes squinting thoughtfully at the other mare. Already, she had forgotten her name. Already, her mind had altered her reality, making it something much more terrifying, yet again. Kendzi looked her over, and Abrasia wondered if she could see the flames. 'The ground is kind of warm, but you are not on fire. Would you like to move to someplace else?' A startled snort came from the stocky mare and she looked down at her own feet, at her legs, because surely the flames were still there, licking against her skin, but as she looked she saw nothing but unmarred flesh. Her legs were, perhaps, a bit dusty, a little bit muddy - self care wasn't an easy thing for her to remember to do these days - but otherwise, no fire. She continued to stare awkwardly down at her legs for several moments, statue still. She'd forgotten all about the question that the mare had asked her. "I don't remember coming here." But gods, was it a good sign that she knew she didn't remember. There was still hope of her getting back home without Bedelia having to come searching for her. Again. This encounter was not exactly the type one usually expected when meandering out and about in the Land of the Free. Fortunately, Kendziora actually was not inexperienced when it came to dealing with someone who lost touch with reality. Her sister, Knif'nienar, similarly struggled sometimes with hallucination and delusion. Albeit, given the disappearance of their sister and then of their parents, Kendzi felt that perhaps the fear that someone was out to get them was not entirely unwarranted, all things considered. Whether it was delusion or not... who could say? Of course, Nar's struggles were not as acute as this mare's, from what Kendzi was observing, but at least all the times she had helped Nar would hopefully be useful in this situation as well. At any rate, she was content to patiently listen and do what she could for the silver grullo mare before her, rather than just leave.
Finding herself the subject of the older mare`s blank, yet wide-eyed stare, Kendzi offered a reassuring smile. A few moments of silence passed between them, before the other mare was murmuring, "I can't remember..." Whether the stranger was admitting that they could not remember Kendzi's name or something else, she could not be sure, but she simply nodded gently in acknowledgement.
'It's okay. I don't suppose Kendzi is the most common name out there anyway,' she remarked with a soft laugh.
Blue eyes followed the silver grullo's gaze to legs that looked a bit on the dusty side, but obviously untouched by fire. For several long moments, the older femmora remained as still as any statue, staring at her legs. Kendzi remained mostly as still -- albeit with the occasional restless movement of the young and energetic -- patiently waiting to see if this acquaintance would have any further questions or remarks.
As it turned out, the pale-pelted femme did. At least, insofar as she admitted, "I don't remember coming here."
Kendzi could not quite tell whether the older mare was bothered by that fact or not, but she simply queried, 'Would you like some help getting home?' Character;; Kendziora Tagged;; fleabittengray w/Abrasia Notes;; <3 Timeline;; 2 yrs; spring, midday
