There were plenty of familiar faces to be seen, just as there were plenty of strangers to meet as Kida wove about, speaking with each equine she encountered with the same familiarity one would expect had she known them well all their lives. Which probably was a bit of an odd experience for many a Dark who had attended. At least, of those who had never met or heard of the gentle matron who had spent most of her life at this point either in Dark territory or in the Dark Royal herd. Shayhen had taken her into his herd when he had found the oddly marked mare "dancing" with wolves. It was from him she had first learned that they were not, in fact, dancing with her. But had wanted to make a meal out of her. He had taken her under his wing and when he had become Dark King, it had been the most natural thing in the world for her to follow him from his old home to Lachlan Breck.

And that was where she had stayed, for the most part, other than the times she had been stolen. Not that she really understood what that had meant. She held no grudges against any of the equines who had stolen her, thinking they were just friends who had been lonely and needed company. An odd way to get company, mind you, but it was the only reason she could come up with to explain such behaviour.

Of course, there had been the most recent move, leaving Lachlan Breck behind. Sort of. Kida admittedly still liked to visit the place, even if it was uninhabited now. There were nooks and crannies she had loved dearly and it was nice to see them from time to time. Not too often, but on rare occasions when she got homesick. The Howling Keep was nice, of course, but she would be lying to say that she liked it better than Lachlan Breck.

Times like this when lots of visitors filled the land were marvelous, though. At least, as far as the friendly dame was concerned. She loved meeting new equines and she also loved getting reacquainted with old friends. Better yet, this time a coronation had occurred not because their king or queen had disappeared, but because it would seem the previous king had opted to allow another to take his place while still remaining. Far better such circumstances than losing yet another dear friend. Or worse, one of those she had considered just as much her own children as those she had brought into the world.

TEFACHED

His muzzle was coated in scarlet, barely visible against his blackened pelt aside from the glossy sheen of it against his hair. He licked the remains of blood from his lips, dark eyes scanning the crowd he was on the outskirts of. Flesh was stuck between his teeth, a very unnatural for an equine, but for the cannibalistic brute, it was quite normal. He always preferred to fear on flesh than to casually dine on grass.

He began to walk then, wandering along the edge of the clearing the Coronation was being held in. His hulking 19 hand frame moved with a predatory grace. On his way around the edge of the clearing, debating if he wanted to leave early or not, Tef spotted another equine nearby. He knew her, if only by her description. Charm had spoken fondly of her. Deciding to go over and have a chat, the draft mutt turned his body and began to stalk toward her. "Kida," he greeted her, giving a fleshy grin before licking more of the blood from his lips. "Are you enjoying the Coronation?"

Normally, Tefached was not one for small talk, but he supposed he could make an exception for her.

There was such joy in the expression of the aging femmora, a zest for life unquenchable despite all that life had thrown her way. Looking at Kida, one would never imagine the depths of all that she had endured the entirety of her life, right from the very beginning. Few would guess at what could have been a terribly lonely childhood; of course, for her, it had not been lonely at all because it had been populated by multitudes of imaginary friends to keep her company. No need for such imaginary companions in many years, of course. Not since leaving the stone-hearted family who believed her touched by the devil himself.

What irony, if only they knew. Her markings had not been from such a source, but perhaps the hatred those markings had inspired and the assumption behind such hatred had been a self-fulfilling prophecy...

She never contemplated the past, though. At least, not so far back. Shayhen had found her and that was when her life truly began. He had been her best friend and even after all this time, she still missed him dearly. He was the reason that she lived in the Dark Royal land, a fact that she had never found a reason to regret. Even now, surrounded by the blackest of hearts, a warm, unquestionably sincere smile was on her lips as she interacted with various equines who had come to the coronation.

"Kida." The sound of her name immediately captured her attention and the mare in question turned slightly, taking note of the stranger stalking towards her even as he continued, "Are you enjoying the Coronation?"

Smiling more brightly still at the inquiry, if such were even possible, she answered, 'I am indeed enjoying the Coronation! I hope you are as well?' Tilting her head slightly, noting the fact that she had no idea who he was, she added, 'I'm sorry... I don't believe I know your name, though you seem to know mine.'

Kida radiated joy and happiness, everything that Tef was very much not. That wasn't to say that he was unhappy or depressed or anything along those lines. Rather, he was just dark and eerie and honestly rather disgusting. He truly was a brute, someone who cared not what others thought of him. He used force frequently, and would not hesitate to eat you alive, if given the chance. He'd done it before and would, without a doubt, do it again. Yet here he was, attempting to converse with some joyous creature while he had bloodstained lips and bits of flesh stuck between his teeth. To Kida's credit, however, she hardly seemed to care. Perhaps she didn't notice. Or maybe more along the lines of not realizing it. Tef had been told she was quite a naive woman, seeing light even in the darkest of behemoths. It was almost amusing to him, really, because what fool would believe there was a speck of goodness, kindness, or compassion within him? Tefached was known for his brutality and nothing else. He did not have charisma like Charm did. He did not try to trick others into trusting him. It was either listen or be eaten.

Yet here she was, smiling up at him, this oddly marked maiden, and Tef gave a bit of a smirk back. 'I am indeed enjoying the Coronation! I hope you are as well?' There was a curious tilt to her head as she then inquired, 'I'm sorry... I don't believe I know your name, though you seem to know mine.' And even as she stated that fact, there was no hint of fear or suspicion in her tones. Tef let out a low hmm of agreement, giving a nod of conformation to the fact that she did not know him. "We've never met, but I am friends with Charm, and he has always spoken highly of you, Kida," he explained. "I am Tefached." As to the Coronation... well.. He glanced towards the rest of the mingling crowd, watching them for a time, before looking back at Kida. "Coronations aren't quite my thing, but I agreed to tag along. I am certain I will be leaving before things wrap up entirely. Charm is here as well, if you've not seen him. He's bound to stay here longer than I am. He tolerates... social events much better than myself."

The fact that the stallion before her had an aura so completely different from her own joyous cheer did not seem to faze Kida in the slightest. Was she aware of the blood staining his lips or the bits of flesh that were stuck between his teeth? Probably not, though two of her sons were aware and keeping a close eye on things, watchful protectors, though as yet not moving to intervene. If only because the brute their mother spoke with had made no movement or gesture that suggested he was currently a threat to her. Of course, here in the royal land, especially all things considered, surely only a complete fool would threaten a member of the Dark Royal herd? Not to say that such equines did not exist who really were that foolish. However, most were not. Or, at least, most that they had observed were not. Kida, of course, remained oblivious to their watchful stances nearby -- close enough to leap to her defence if necessary, but not crowding the gentle matron... no matter how much Keroscenic Hazard might prefer otherwise. Her attention remained on the tall inky stallion, smiling up at him without the slightest hint of nervousness, just as at ease as if she had known him the entirety of her life, the best of friends.

"We've never met, but I am friends with Charm, and he has always spoken highly of you, Kida," the dark-pelted stranger explained, adding, "I am Tefached."

Though many equine would disagree with the sentiment vehemently, Kida smiled brightly as she answered, 'It's lovely to meet you, Tefached! I am glad to have the opportunity to meet a friend of Charm's.' Was she aware of the kind of monster Charm was? And consequentially no doubt many of his friends were the same. Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on your viewpoint... the innocent femmora did not have the slightest clue that her new friend and the friend they both knew.... were far from being good. Or even decent. Rather, they could better be described as black-hearted villains with no consideration for the lives they destroyed.

Tefached seemed to observe the crowd for a moment, before saying, "Coronations aren't quite my thing, but I agreed to tag along. I am certain I will be leaving before things wrap up entirely. Charm is here as well, if you've not seen him. He's bound to stay here longer than I am. He tolerates... social events much better than myself."

With a quiet laugh, Kida noted, 'Some of my family are not particularly excited about the coronations either.' Of course, their reasons probably had much less to do with being antisocial and more to do with worrying about the naive matron who waltzed up to complete strangers and chatted with them as if she had known them all her life, with no regard for the potential danger she could be placing herself in. 'I thought I saw a glimpse of Charm. I suppose he is the one who convinced you to come?'

He was not kind. He was not caring. He was not the type that typically cared at all what happened, or about consequences. The large brute merely cared about being able to continue devouring the flesh of others - horses were his main meat of choice, making him a cannibal by nature, but Tefached didn't care what others would think of him for feasting on the flesh of his own kind. It kept the slaves in line in the brothel, knowing they very well may be eaten alive should they do the wrong thing at the wrong time, piss somebody off they shouldn't have. However, Kida was someone he was considering himself more neutral toward, if only because Charm had a mild obsession with the oddly marked mare.

'It's lovely to meet you, Tefached! I am glad to have the opportunity to meet a friend of Charm's.' He was, of course, much more than that. He was a tormenter and executioner, but explaining that to Kida he imagined would be useless. So he just snickered. "Oh yes, lovely." He could not help the sarcasm that dripped from his vocals as he spoke. 'Some of my family are not particularly excited about the coronations either.' She spoke the words with a quiet laugh and Tef looked toward those that were hanging further back; family members, he assumed. Probably children, or grandchildren. 'I thought I saw a glimpse of Charm. I suppose he is the one who convinced you to come?'

His darkened gaze turned back to Kida and he nodded in return to her question. "Yes. Charm thought it would look good for our home if the both of us showed up. I was inclined to agree," he said, staring down at the smaller mare for a moment. "You should come visit Charm some time, if you don't get to speak with him today. I'm sure he would like that."

Such an unlikely pair of equines to be partaking in conversation. In contrast to Tefached's savagely forboding aura -- accentuated by his hulking nineteen hands of height -- Kida could not have been more different if she tried. A bright smile lit her features, evidently enjoying herself immensely, despite the stallion's ominous appearance. There was, without a doubt, nothing Kida loved more than being able to get to know other equines and make new friends. Especially in the case of already sharing a friend! In the space of a few words exchanged, she had a habit of immediately considering whoever she spoke with to be another new friend whom she cherished, each one just as dearly as those who came before. A list that now included Tefached, even if some might suggest he looked about as friendly as a hungry shark. Given his cannibalistic tendencies... probably not an entirely inaccurate assessment, to be sure. Not one that crossed the friendly matron's own thoughts, however.

A snicker escaped the tall stallion as he answered, "Oh yes, lovely." Though sarcasm dripped from his words, that sarcasm went right over the smiling dame's head. Would she have understood if he explained his role in Charm's herd? There was always the possibility... however small. Probably just as well he did not mention it, especially with her sons present to hear.

She watched him glance about, taking in the presence of the family she had mentioned, before his gaze returned to her. A nod followed, before he added, "Yes. Charm thought it would look good for our home if the both of us showed up. I was inclined to agree."

Kida gave a nod of understanding, remarking, 'That seems reasonable.' Her understanding and awareness of politics could probably be summed up in a couple words, if that. However, she had an understanding of the impact politics and roles of leadership could have on those who ruled. She had always done her utmost to help grant respite to her leaders in her own way, when the toll of ruling burdened them overmuch. She hoped that her new rulers would allow her to help them too, just as she had others in the past.

Meeting his gaze, she smiled when Tefached said, "You should come visit Charm some time, if you don't get to speak with him today. I'm sure he would like that."

Bobbing her head cheerfully, she agreed, 'I'd be happy to go visit Charm sometime, especially if I don't get to speak with him today.'

Antisocial as he was, Tef really did not plan on staying at the Coronation much longer. He had showed up, he had stayed long enough, and really he must be getting back home. He wasn't fond of parties. He would much rather be at home, perhaps making use of one of the captives in the brothel. He had his own personal servant, Maiko, but he used Maiko for other things. Like spreading chaos. Maiko had informed Tefached of a murder he and a friend had made. An elderly woman named Afterglow. There had been a child present, who had been allowed to go free, but seeing as no one had ever come looking for Maiko, Tefached and Charm weren't all that worried about it anymore. That all had happened quite a number of years ago now. He wondered if Kida would still be talking with him so casually had she known everything Tef had done, and all that he had allowed to happen. After all, Tefached was more likely to eat her than he was to actually care about her.

'That seems reasonable.' She was so proper and polite and sweet. It was sickening, really. Tefached was much more used to cruelty than he was to whatever the hell Kida was. It was frustrating to have to behave himself, but, Charm found her endearing, so alas, he could not be mean toward her even though that was his first instinct. "Charm is a reasonable man!" he said with a chuckle, a dark twinkle in his eyes, because that was far from the truth. Charm was not one to be easily reasoned with, especially if he gained nothing from the reasoning. 'I'd be happy to go visit Charm sometime, especially if I don't get to speak with him today.' To that, the large draft mutt nodded. "Very well. I am sure I will hear all about it, when we return home."
