Versai

It was difficult for her young mind to wrap around the threat of war. It was not how she imagined her first few months of Versaihood would be. Now the threat was becoming more and more of a reality. Serendipity had less time to prepare for this role than the others and the thought of jumping blindly into battle seemed like a poor decision on her part. The young mare had never even met a member of the afterlife, so joining the fight on either side was not a decision she felt she could make at this moment in time. The Versai mare was not even sure what the other Versai's plans and thoughts were for the threat, and Serendipity wasn't sure if she would want them to influence or force her decision in any way. The smoky quarab wanted to make her own determination and hear all sides prior to making a decision that could reflect badly on herself or any of the other Versai. What if she joined and she was questioned why she joined one side or the other? The young mare needed a definitive answer. The other question was could she still aid those in need from the war without necessarily joining? At this time she felt staying neutral in the conflict until she could determine who exactly she was in this new role.
The thoughts of war and her new title as a Versai were pressing on her. Aurora, her mother, had suggested she get away from Rosemonde for a bit and recommended Crystal Pools which had been one of the former Versai's favorite territories. Serendipity had passed through the land from time to time but had never stopped to visit the land and enjoy it's healing waters. It seemed silly when the Highlands had their own spring, but she followed her mother's advice and made her way to the Freelands. The walk alone did wonders for her chaotic mind and she basked in the alternating sunlight and shade from the trees. It was fun observing the oddly shaped patterns of the tree's shadows as she walked. As she got closer to her destination the trees became more scarce and their shadows were replaced with boulders and canyon walls. They shifted again as the pools came into view. There were many around, some having heated discussions about the pending war. She wondered how many of these equines would soon be battling one another. That thought sent chills up her spine as she imagined the lifeless bodies and beautiful pools turned crimson with blood.
Her stomach churned and she found a nice place to pause her journey and gather control of her thoughts. Seren began to have doubts that getting out was really the answer to her questions, but not wanting to make the trip for nothing she scanned the area to find and empty and secluded pool. Without too much thought, fearing her imagination would run away again, she entered the warm waters with a splash. The waves spilling water over the lip of the pool and flooding out a ways before seeping back to the main body of water. Her mother was right about one thing, the waters were definitely very relaxing. She could feel the warmth easing the tension in her muscles. The mare released a long sigh as she settled down and closed her color changing orbs.

x LINA Recently a year old yet feeling like she was very much an adult, Lina had snuck away from the territory known as Desolate Earth in the Light Kingdom to come out to the Free Lands by herself. Normally, she would come here with her mother or someone else from home, just because she was "a child" and now there was the fact that the realm was in a supernatural war between Heaven and Hell... which apparently made things even more dangerous. However, Lina had never truly experienced danger in her life, nor did she have any concept of what war really was since this was her first time living through one. Sanctio had taken his time to try and explain it to her, about how there would be death and destruction and she was going to have to be very careful about who she talked to even more than usual (especially since Sanctio himself and Desolate Earth as a whole were aligned with Utopia). She had listened idly and nodded her head giving little "uh huhs" whenever he asked if she was listening and understood, but really, she had just wanted to go exploring. She'd already done something she'd promised not to do - left Desolate Earth without telling anyone exactly where she was going. Sure, they would probably assume the Free Lands, but there were a lot of lands to explore! How were they supposed to know she was heading to Crystal Pools that hot summer day? Still, despite knowing she would be in trouble for it later, the spotted yearling hummed happily to herself as she followed the winding paths through the Land of the Free. It took her a little bit to remember which path led to where, since normally she was just following along after whoever she was coming here with, but eventually she found the right direction that would take her to the warm bathing pools that so many in Wild Equines enjoyed and spoke highly of. She couldn't wait to soak in them and get rid of the mud on her legs! Soon enough, the canyon and the pools came into sight. There were a decent amount of equines mingling, and almost immediately, Lina noticed the tension in the air. It was this thing that was nearly alive, rippling and crackling through the atmosphere enough to have her slowing her pace and tilting her ears back. She blinked a few times, looking around and spotting a lone female in one of the pools. She looked rather peaceful - and safe to approach! So that was her target. Walking forward, Lina approached the pool the older mare was soaking in and clear her throat politely. "Excuse me, ma'am, but do you mind if I join ya? Everyone else seems a little..." she paused, glancing around them again. "Well, they look a lil' grumpy."not AVA! w/ Serendipity 476 | Breathe CarolinaI hope you don't mind her popping in here! <3 1 year, summertime, mid-day

While her first impression was relaxed, the voices from the surrounding parties were beginning to break the small amount of focus she had gathered. Peaking out from under her lashes, Serendipity could see the silhouettes of the surrounding equines. Some were in heated discussions, others glanced around fearfully as if someone were going to attack them. Though there were no battles waging around her, she could feel the war around them. It was terrifying, making her uncomfortable. She desired to leave, but she couldn't just hide away in a time like this. She was a Versai. A beacon of hope for those who needed it. Light and purity in times of dark and evil. Pools of sapphire fully opened to see another approaching her.
The smoky mare straightened up in the waters awaiting the greeting from the newcomer. She hoped that she too was here to escape the stressors of war, as that was the only way she could truly relate to anyone about the current events. Truthfully Aurora wasn't sure that she would be able to have an intelligent conversation with anyone about the topic of war since she was ignorant about the topic. The young mare was still trying to figure out the details of the uprising and her own stance on the war. "Excuse me, ma'am, but do you mind if I join ya? Everyone else seems a little..." Seren smiled softly as the other equines notes entered her drums. The stranger seemed nice enough and maybe that was also why she had approached Serendipity. Maybe she too was looking for an escape from everything. Sure! It would be nice to have some company to help block out all the chaos surrounding us. Her warm tones hopefully were welcoming enough and would allow the other equine to know she did not mean any harm to her.
"Well, they look a lil' grumpy The young Versai mare nodded glancing around. There seemed to be more parties of debate surrounding them than she had noticed before. It was sad in a way to see the world in such a state. Normally a place like this would be full of families and friends spending time with one another. Unfortunately war will do that to the masses.. She started with a sigh. ..or so I have heard. I can't recall ever being alive during a war time. She added pausing for a moment before introducing herself. My name is Oleander or Olli for short.

The spotted sooty bay shuffled her striped hooves in the earth as the other maiden looked toward her. Lina wasn’t really shy, had always been very outgoing and extrovert, but she’d also gained some of her mother’s naivety as well as the typical childhood innocence that lingered within most yearlings. She was not dumb, had been told of dangers beyond her imagination, especially now that she was deemed “old enough,” even if she wasn’t considered an adult yet. Lina was so curious about Wild Equines. She had been born here, unlike her mother, who had miraculously stumbled upon the realm and survived despite having been raised by creatures called “humans.” Lina wondered if the made in the pool would know anything about humans or if she had been born here. Had she come from a land far away? Or had Wild Equines always been home? Lina was so curious, but managed not to blurt out any questions as the stranger smiled at her. She was so pretty! Sure! It would be nice to have some company to help block out all the chaos surrounding us. Lina giggled, ears twitching to listen to the faint arguing in the distance. ”I promise I’m not here for chaos!” she spoke, smiling as she walked forward and gave a sigh of relief as the warm water engulfed her legs and began to wash away the mud. Unfortunately war will do that to the masses.. Again, Lina’s ears swiveled but her brown gaze stayed locked on the stranger. ..or so I have heard. I can't recall ever being alive during a war time. The stranger paused and then spoke again, introducing herself. My name is Oleander or Olli for short. Lina flashed a smile, shifting her weight in the water and glancing down at the ripples for a moment. ”I’m Breathe Carolina, but everyone just calls me Lina!” She lowered her muzzle to the water, hugging at the surface before her lips touched the liquid and she took a small drink, letting the water sigh the dryness that had developed in her mouth and throat on the way here. ”Is it so unbearable hot everywhere in Wild Equines?” she asked as she was raising her head once more, water dripping from her muzzle. ”I’ve not been very many plans other than home and some of the Free Lands. What about you? You live around here or did you just get here?”not AVA!

The discussions around them were either heated or filled with fear. Serendipity wasn’t sure what she could do to help. Choosing a side was not an easy and justifiable decision. She chose to not join one for now and hoped that she would be able to help those in need as a neutral party. There was no sense in mortals dying for an immortal war. The other equine’s words brought her away from thoughts of war. Serendipity was relieved that the horse to choose to join her was not someone who wanted to bring her more worry. Glad to hear it, there is enough chaos as it is. She giggled in return. The other equine entered the pool. Mud swirled from her pelt as was she cleansed by the liquid. Serendipity wondered how long the other equine had been traveling. In stereotypical fashion their conversation landed on the weather. The Versai mare needed that sort of normalcy though. The weather would be as it was despite current events. She pondered the topic for a brief moment before formulating her response. I believe there are some places that are more mild in weather that I have visited. I am not as familiar with the freelands, but I know there are places in the highlands that are. She replied, thinking about the mild weather of her homeland, Rosemonde. It had been one of the only places she had known for years. It was why she was not as familiar with the lands in the freelands. Her mother had needed her home so her exploration phase as a youth was very limited. While she wished things had been different, Seren had been happy to help her mother in her time of need. She felt it was what lead her to the path she was on now and she would not regret becoming a Versai, even under current circumstances. The topic flowed naturally to where they were from. Having already been thinking of home Serendipity was able to answer without too much thought. I’ve been a few places in the freelands, but that has only been recent. I am trying to get out and explore more but that is becoming more difficult with the current events. she paused briefly to separate thoughts. I spent most of my childhood in the Highlands. Serendipity explained, seeing that they had both been similarly sheltered from the freelands. What about you? She asked curious about Lina. Tag: fleabittengrayWords:411

x LINA Growing up in times of war was strange. Her mother didn't even understand war, really, but everyone was always warning her at home to be super careful who she spoke to, especially in the Free Lands if she went by herself. They really didn't want her going along, but she also didn't want to tag along with those that were older than herself. She was one of the youngest residents of Desolate Earth and, well, it would just be awkward, honestly. Well, maybe Samson wouldn't be so bad. They had some stuff in common, sort of, and he wasn't quite so intimidating like Mariposa could be. Not that Mari meant to be intimidating! And, well, Titan, too, she could ask... but he was kinda intimidating as well. Honestly, Samson was just a gentle soul and she would rather hang out with him than any of the others. The only downside was that he was so sad all of the time and it made her feel awkward, trying to pretend not to notice his sadness. It made her feel kinda weirdly guilty. Thankfully, this older mare didn't seem to be the sad type, and Lina was looking forward to get to know her. Maybe they could be friends or something, despite their age gap! Glad to hear it, there is enough chaos as it is. The two maidens stood in the pool, giggling, and Lina bobbed her head in agreement. "It's pretty strange out here, for sure! Not a fan of the chaos at all. My herd gets sooo protective when I decide to head out for the day - which, well, I'm young, I get it, I suppose," she rambled sheepishly, giving a lopsided grin. I believe there are some places that are more mild in weather that I have visited. I am not as familiar with the freelands, but I know there are places in the highlands that are. At the mention of the Highlands, Lina tilted her head, ears perked forward. "I never been to the Highlands before!" But, hey, at least she clearly knew of the Highlands! I’ve been a few places in the freelands, but that has only been recent. I am trying to get out and explore more but that is becoming more difficult with the current events. Current events... like the current war. Ugh, war was so stupid! Bunch of idiot adults all fighting each other. Useless, really. I spent most of my childhood in the Highlands. But back to the Highlands! Lina's brown eyes widened a bit, pleasantly surprised. What about you? She wondered if she should say where she lived, but figured, if this mare was from the Highlands, it wouldn't hurt to say! "If you live in the Highlands, does that mean you're friends with all the Versai?" she asked first, not realizing that this mare was one of the Sisters just yet. "I live in Desolate Earth, in the Light Kingdom! Sanctio is the leader. He's friendly with, umm... I think her name is Allocen? Something like that! Underoath used to be the leader but he.. uh, got into trouble with the Kingdom, sooo now Sanctio is our leader!" Okay, so, maybe she was babbling a bit too much but... she couldn't help it! not AVA! w/ Serendipity 544 | Breathe CarolinaSorry for the wait! <3 1 year, summertime, mid-day

Seren was all too familiar with what it was like to be from a protective family. Being the heir to her mother’s crown she had been well guarded growing up. While she was allowed to explore at one point in her life, things changed when her mother was attacked and left disabled. That day she vowed to help her mother wherever she could. That had been the end to her childhood as she knew it and the little freedoms she had. Its understandable for them to be protective when war is just peeking over the horizon. Though I am glad you are able to join while there is little fighting. She paused with a sigh, but for how much longer would the tension hold. How long till there was fighting and bloodshed and death. Serendipity wish she could stop it. That the immortals would fight their own battles instead of inviting the fragile lives of earth. Lina spoke of never visiting her homeland, the Highlands. It was understandable as they had not been allowed to really associate with one another till recently. I am sure you haven’t. The Versai were banished from the light kingdom till just recently. I am sure anyone who associated with us would have been punished: She smiled but it did not reach her eyes. The downfall of the former Versai was something that was hard to celebrate. First it meant that she and the other Versai had a long uphill battle to be back in favor with the rest of the lands. Second it meant the downfall of the old Versai. Her mother was no longer who she was and she would never be the same. The next of Lina’s questions made Serendipity smile as she asked Seren if she knew the Versai. Without hesitation she replied. I am very familiar with the Versai. She started with an amused smile realizing that her mark was hidden in the waters. The young filla had no idea who she was actually talking to. I know the first former Versai as well. My mother was a Versai before me. She explained letting Lina in on her secret subtly. She didn’t want the young mare to feel silly for not realizing that Seren was a Versai. Truthfully there was no way Lina would have been able to tell as her mark was hidden in the waters. Excitedly Lina spoke of her home. The name catching Serendipity’s attention. She hadn’t heard the name in some time and it cause a sharp stab in her heart and she remembered her brother. She wondered if he knew of what had happened to their mother and that she was now a Versai. Now that she was able to visit maybe it was time to stop by, before things got too escalated with the war. Desolate Earth? She questioned excitedly her color changing pools brightening. if you are from there you must know my half brother, Samson She stated excited to have a different connection to the young mare. x LINA Lina was still quite childish. She still had a lot of growing up to do, but with a mother like Autumn, no one would be surprised if she retained some of her immaturity. Her mother was not a native of Wild Equines. In fact, she was not even born wild. She had been raised by humans, and often spoke of them and how she missed her life on the farm. Lina was sure that, if she could, her mother would go back to her old life. Lina, on the other hand, couldn't imagine living with humans and having to carry them around on her back all of the time! She wondered if this mare had any experience with humans, but Lina doubted it. Olli seemed like the type that was born wild and would always be wild. She seemed like a strong young woman, the type that Lina hoped she would one day grow up to be like. She didn't want to be weak. Her mother was kinda weak in a way... she didn't know how to fight or defend herself. Didn't grasp the concept of it, and never bothered to train. Lina, on the other hand, had started asking Mariposa all different questions about defending herself especially now, with there being a war. Its understandable for them to be protective when war is just peeking over the horizon. Though I am glad you are able to join while there is little fighting. The yearling sighed, looking around at the others within the realm of Crystal Pools and wrinkling her nose. "I don't get why they all gotta fight over nothin'! They ain't even involved in the Afterlife, if they're still alive!" Of course, there was more to the war than that, but she was too naive to understand it. She would not know until she was older the reasons for war, in any capacity. I am sure you haven’t. The Versai were banished from the light kingdom till just recently. I am sure anyone who associated with us would have been punished. Olli's words had Lina's attention turning back onto her and the young girl frowned, brow furrowed. "Oh. I didn't know that. I think. Maybe someone told me and I just forgot." And then she shrugged, not caring enough about the past to ask any questions about it. I am very familiar with the Versai. Lina's eyes widened and she huffed softly in surprise. "Really?" she asked, sounded excited, because to her, the Versai just sounded so cool! I know the first former Versai as well. My mother was a Versai before me. Lina didn't get it at first. "Your mother was a- OH! Are you a Versai Sister now?" she asked, whispering the words, and sounding very much in awe of the older mare. She hadn't noticed any mark on the mare to show her Versai position, but, they were also both submerged in the water. Desolate Earth? She gave a nod of confirmation, grinning brightly. if you are from there you must know my half brother, Samson Again, she nodded, giggling with amusement. "Yeah! He's my friend!" Lina cocked her head to the side as she looked at Olli then, curious. "Do ya think ya can come visit some time? I'm sure Sanctio wouldn't mind! And maybe it'll cheer Samson up! He seems so sad all the time - but don't, uh, tell him I said that, okay?"not AVA! w/ Serendipity 572 | Breathe CarolinaThis is so cute 1 year, summertime, mid-day

Serendipity was still young and learning the ins and outs of being a Versai. Even though she had been raised for a few years as a Versai heir, there was only so much her mother could teach her. The old Versai was severely disabled by the time she had started her training. While her mother could cover scenarios she had encountered and how she handled them or handled them differently, but there was no guarantee that Seren would ever find herself in the same situations. To make things more complicated, they were in war and her mentor was in not right state of mind to help her. It would have been a bit easier to figure things out if times had been more at peace, but now she had to figure it out in this chaos. It was good to hear others who thought as she did. It made her feel validated. She parted her kissers to reply, her tone a bit defeated. I am baffled as well. She paused briefly before adding. I can't understand why they would allow mortals to fight for them. This statement alone was one of the big reasons why Serendipity could not bring herself to take a side. It was selfish to encourage involvement of the mortals in their affairs. They preached peaceful approaches and finding better ways of handling things but then involve everyone in their battles. She was glad for the Versai not yet having to take a side, and she hoped that it would stay that way. It warmed her heart to see the other equine to get excited about meeting her. She nodded simply in response. Not only was it the first time she had seen someone excited about meeting her, as a Versai, but it was also good to see equine who still liked the Versai. It was good to hear that her bother had a friend. She couldn't remember the last time she had seen him, and she felt bad for it. There had been so much going on and with their mother in the condition she was in, it was hard to invite others to visit or to even get away for long periods of time. It would be nice to visit, but Serendipity still wasn't sure of where the Versai stood when it came to the light kingdom. Yes they were invited to the coronation, but she felt that was more due to Luna helping them out. Maybe that was something to consult the other Versai when the time came. She had no relationship with anyone in the light kingdom aside from her brother. Finally finding the words she needed to say Seren spoke. I am not quite sure if I am welcomed in the light kingdom, I don't want to get anyone into a bad place with the king and queen. I did attend the coronation, but I still hesitant to venture there. She took a breath gathering her thoughts before continuing. Once I find out I would be happy to visit as long as Sanctio is okay with it. You both are also welcome to visit me any time as well. I am sure seeing Samson would also bring a smile to my mother's face. She left the topic open for now. Seredipity did not desire to say no, but she wanted to make sure that it was safe for all for her to do so. Tag: fleabittengrayWords: 572
