x LADY FANTASMA Leviticus was missing, had been missing for some time now, and no one knew anything about where she might be. She had been heading to the Singles Mingle event in Unclaimed Hearts, getting a late start which caused her to have to make the journey by herself. She never made it to Unclaimed Hearts, and she never made it back home, either. Heartless One was distraught and riddled with guilt, since he was the one that encouraged her to try to go anyway, despite oversleeping. And her mother, Lily... Oh, sweet Lily... Fan worried for the woman's mental wellbeing. Lily was in no condition to be searching for her lost daughter, but Fan had promised her that she would do everything she could to bring her daughter back home. And as a Caretaker of Dark Woods, Lady Fantasma also felt like she had failed Leviticus. They had tried to hard to teach her about the dangers of the world... Had they failed? Shaking her head to try and clear it of her pessimistic thoughts, the tall palomino overo maiden set her sights on the land ahead of her. She was determined to search every inch of The Forsaken Mire today for any clues as to what might have happened to Leviticus. She was worried she would find nothing, but she would not stop searching until they found something, someone, that might be able to hint toward where Leviticus was now. And while Fan was not a fan of getting herself covered in swamp muck, she also was far from vain and did not hesitate to go marching right in, ankle deep in the ick, each step making a suctioning sound that made it entirely impossible to walk stealthily. Oh, well. At least she wasn't trying to sneak up on anyone because this was not the kind of place you could be sneaky in. Open! 313 | Lady FantasmaShe is open to all kinds of plots! She currently is a Caretaker in Dark Woods, and is one of Rasa's granddaughters. Tagging Indi just for visibility. If I have to change anything about Leviticus being missing and the events that happened between then and now, let me know. <3 8 years 10 months, late summer, morning, Leviticus is missing

DURAMUS Every so often, Duramus went for a stroll from Mount Vigilum to the Forsaken Mire. He saved it for the days when he didn’t intend to wander far from the Mount, as the Mire lay just bound the place the Vigilum called their base of operations. The Forsaken Mire was a dark place, one that Duramus typically did not enter save to see if there were any that required saving. It was treacherous; many equines, and other animals, had come into the swamp and never returned. Even stable ground sank beneath one’s hooves, making it wearisome to navigate as well as treacherous. Who knew when one step would lead to your demise, never to emerge from the depths? Duramus, built strongly due to his draft heritage, knew that it was particularly dangerous for him to go there. He was too heavy to have any chance of being able to skirt above the ground and avoid sinking – however, he was also strong enough to pull himself free of the much when he could. But he was Vigilum, and the Vigilum would go wherever the most trouble was to be found.
Dur skirted the edge of the Mire as he arrived, wary despite his desire to help others about actually stepping foot in the muck. The sound of squelching hoofbeats drew him in, though. There was another horse here today, and Dur hoped they knew how dangerous this land was. Maybe they needed help, or would be up for some casual conversation? Every conversation these days concerned the war – as well as it should, but Dur wished sometimes they could go back to focusing on helping others and keeping politics out of it. Politics rarely served anyone well. Dur remembered his discussion with Xerxes and Teca of the Underworld about what would end the war, and couldn’t help his drawn out sigh. He hoped Cassian would speak with Utopia soon so they could come to an understanding of what role the Vigilum could play. Dur thought a peace council mediated somewhere neutral would be good, but where even was that these days? It used to be the Light Kingdom, oddly, given they decided not to declare for either side of the war, but that had certainly come crashing down when the Dark Queen had brought the severed heads of what looked like two former Light Royals on in to the coronation festivities.
Shaking his head, Duramus traversed the ground carefully, the bay draft mix carefully placing each hoof and testing the ground before letting it take his full weight. It was slow going, but the squelching hoofsteps were easy to follow – and most likely, gave the mare he was starting to draw closer to fair warning. Hello he called, deciding he really didn’t want to startle her, continuing to draw himself slightly closer before halting. Are you searching for something or someone? Few other reasons draw someone to this swamp he remarked. His Vigilum brand was clearly visible on his shoulder, bared for the world to see, and hopefully that would put this stranger more at ease than she otherwise would be.

x LADY FANTASMA This was not the ideal place to be searching for her niece, but Fan knew she had to look everywhere. Leviticus could be anywhere. Decay had tried to track her down, had gotten as far as Geysir before losing the trail. There had been another scent there, a masculine one, but it was the Free Lands so that could mean nothing. They could have crossed paths briefly before heading in different directions. Or maybe that man was the reason behind her disappearance. Fan had rushed to Geysir to pick up the scent herself, with Decay's help, so that she may recognize it if at any point in time she came across the brute. But so far in her searching, she'd had no luck. Hearty, she knew, wanted to be out here looking as well, but he was so busy making sure Lily didn't fall off the deep end what with the disappearance of her daughter. The guilt her brother felt was immense and Fan could understand why, but she also didn't think this was his fault. The longer the girl was missing, the more Fan suspected foul play. Soon, after a couple of hours of marching through the swamp, Fan became aware of the sound of someone else nearby. She looked in the direction of their suctioning hoof steps, her one good eye focusing on the brute that was coming in her direction. Her nostrils flared to draw in her scent, but it was entirely unfamiliar to her. Most importantly, it did not match the scent that had been mingled with Leviticus in Geysir. Hello His voice was friendly enough, but still, the man-hating mare kept her body tense, ready to throw herself into a battle if she had to. Despite being half-blind, Lady Fantasma was still quite the warrior. She had taken her training very serious over the years. Are you searching for something or someone? Few other reasons draw someone to this swamp. At first, she was suspicious of his words but then she realized he must be right. Very few equines ventured here without reason. Sighing heavily, the gold and ivory mix gave a solemn nod of her head . "Yes. I am looking for my niece. Her name is Leviticus. She went missing some time ago, during the Singles Mingle event, and we've been unable to find her since then. According to her brother, she never made it to Unclaimed Hearts for the event." She paused, wondering just how much information she should give to this guy in the first place, eyes beginning to narrow. "Why are you here, then? You missing someone, too?" Her suspicion was clear as day in her voice. She did not trust this stranger just yet, despite him giving no reason to not trust him so far. DURAMUS Duramus could tell the stranger felt suspicious of him – she eyed him as though he might be a threat. Given the scars littering his body, his very tall height, and the musculature evident in his frame, this was a logical assessment. It was for that reason especially that Duramus was happy his Vigilum brand was in such a visible location. Once recognized, it tended to defuse tension before it could even manifest. The mare sighed heavily suddenly, as though accepting that his question was not an illogical or untoward one, and responded that she was searching for her niece, who went missing during the Singles Mingle event and had apparently never even made it to the named Freeland for the event. Duramus nodded, committing the details the stranger had revealed to memory. He was completely unsurprised when she turned the tables and asked what he was doing here, too.
I’m Duramus, a member of the Vigilum he introduced, hearing the suspicion ring through this mare’s voice and acknowledging he needed to get an intro out of the way, and fast. He nodded towards his Vigilum brand, wondering if she perhaps had not noticed it yet or actually did not know what it meant. I often come through here because it’s close to Mount Vigilum and there’s always horses getting stuck or needing help. The swamp is dangerous even to those who know it well. He counted himself among those who knew it well, to an extent, but that didn’t mean he was fond of being here, or that it was any less dangerous. This was definitely among his least favorite places to be. With his hooves sinking in with every step, and the knowledge that one firmly placed misstep could see him never emerge from the murky depths…Duramus had numerous reasons to hate this place, but none of them negated the need to ensure that all equines within the realm were safe.
As a Vigilum, I cannot lie, and I focus on helping others, including healing them of both physical and mental injuries he added, deciding he might as well elaborate further. Do you know anything else about how Leviticus disappeared? What does she look like? Maybe I can help, or I can ask my fellow Vigilum to help as well. It was only right of him to offer, and the Vigilum messenger bird system could likely be utilized to a great extent to aid this effort – if the mare became less suspicious of him, of course.

x LADY FANTASMA Both of her eyes fixed on the bay stallion, despite the right one being milky white and completely blind. She did not know him, had never seen him around before, but she did spot something interesting just above his front right leg. An interesting marking, one she thought she faintly remembered from seeing on someone else but she couldn't be sure. Maybe she was getting it confused with another mark, but something about seeing it made her feel not as tense. In fact, the stranger's whole demeanor was rather calming and kind. Fan just was not the type to relax, especially under these conditions. Leviticus was missing and though she had no proof, she had a feeling she knew where the girl had ended up. It would make the most sense if Charm had taken her. But Decay had not reported any sign of the Shire in the scents he had picked up when trying to track her down. Could he have sent someone else to do the dirty work? And how could her family confront him, without and proof? It would only end in pain and suffering. She knew all too well what happened to those that tried to stand up against Charm and those that called The Whore House home. That brothel was hell on earth. I’m Duramus, a member of the Vigilum. The brute's words tugged her away from her thoughts and Fan quirked a brow at him in curiosity. Vigilum! That was what the marking meant. How could she have forgotten? Slowly, a smile began to creep across her face because even though Duramus was a man, he was a man that could be trusted, if he was a part of the Vigilum. "I'm Fan," she introduced herself finally, feeling comfortable giving her name now she she knew a little bit more about Duramus. And being a Vigilum, maybe he could help her! I often come through here because it’s close to Mount Vigilum and there’s always horses getting stuck or needing help. The swamp is dangerous even to those who know it well. As the taller equine spoke of the dangers of the swamp, Fantasma sighed and looked toward the murky waters just beside them. One wrong step could spell the end of it for either of them... "I can't say I know this place very well at all, honestly." She didn't take to exploring the swamp very often, if at all. She couldn't even remember the last time she had come here, to be honest. There just didn't seem to be a reason to. As a Vigilum, I cannot lie, and I focus on helping others, including healing them of both physical and mental injuries. He began to explain the duties of the Vigilum and another mare came to mind as he mentioned mental injuries. Would he or any of the other Vigilum be able to help Lily? Do you know anything else about how Leviticus disappeared? What does she look like? Maybe I can help, or I can ask my fellow Vigilum to help as well. Sighing softly, Fan prepared herself for the difficult conversation. "We assume she was taken by someone, and are praying she is still alive. Leifr, her brother, came home from the event and informed us Leviticus never made it there. She had gotten a late start, having overslept, and the plan was for her to meet him there. She never made it." She swallowed dryly, trying not to let herself cry. "Decay, a stallion from the herd I'm in, tracked her scent to Geysir, but that's where the trail became too tricky for him to follow. We don't know for sure where she is, or who took her, but I do have a suspect in mind - just no proof in order to confront him."Her tone had grown cold, full of hatred and rage. She had to pause, taking a moment to calm herself, before she went on to describe the young girl. Leviticus is about 4 and a half. She's an Arabian mix, really shows her Arab side. Short, about 14 hands or so. She's a fleabittengray, with a skull marking on her left hip being her most notable marking. She's got blue eyes. Sweet kid... this never should have happened..." Her voice wavered and Fan had to stop talking, forcing away the tears and looking away from Duramus again, trying to force herself to take some calming breaths. DURAMUS Duramus noticed the way the mare immediately relaxed as he revealed his affiliation with the Vigilum. He was especially heartened by the smile that spread across her face. It was always reassuring to him when he was recognized by others for what he was – not someone out to harm, but to heal. He was especially happy that it made her feel comfortable enough to introduce herself to him in turn. The mare’s name was Fan – simple enough, and pretty in its simplicity. Dur’s smile remained respectful and genuine as he discussed what he was doing there and how this location was close enough to Mount Vigilum that passing through it was a matter of habit. He nodded in understanding as Fan revealed she didn’t know this area well at all. I wouldn’t either if didn’t live close to it, and even then I try not to know this place he replied, hoping his easy manner would put Fan even more at ease.
The bay draft mix moved on to specific questions as to the situation with Leviticus, asking after facts that might allow him to help. He was heartened by Fan’s response that Leviticus was taken by someone, and had never made it to a meeting with her brother, Leifr. Then a herdmate tracked her scent to the Geysirs, another Freeland that Dur knew well, and it became hard to follow from there. Dur nodded in understanding and to show his continued attention as Fan added that they didn’t know where she was or where she had been taken, but there was no proof to confront whatever suspect they had. Her tones were cold, full of anger and rage, and Dur felt his concern grow. They had a suspect? Why had nothing happened yet? Fan concluded with some details on Leviticus’s appearance, all of which Dur memorized. He neighed in comfort as Fan stopped talking, apparently too overcome to continue.
Who do you suspect, and why? Was there another's scent with Leviticus’s when Decay tracked them? he asked, wanting just a few more details in order to paint an even more complete picture of the situation. Dur wanted to know if the suspect in mind was due to evidence, or due to prejudice. Sometimes horses just assumed a certain horse was responsible in their mind even when they actually weren’t, and there was no explanation for that level of certitude. Dur was curious if there was such an explanation here. If so, it was likely that the Vigilum could act.

x LADY FANTASMA Fan worried day in and day out for Leviticus. She worried about if she was alive and being tortured - hadn't their family been through enough turmoil? When would they find peace? It just was not fair! Tears of frustration stung at the corners of her eyes but she refused to let them fall, blinking a few times and sniffling to try and focus her attention back on the larger stallion she was conversing with. She could not afford to lose her cool. He may be a Vigilum member, but he was still a man, and, well, Lady Fantasma wasn't exactly a fan of men, in general. But she was trying, if only for the sake of bringing Leviticus back home, safe and sound. She swore if Charm had his grimy hooves on her... she would rip his throat out herself! A muscle in her jaw twitched at the thought, teeth clenching, and she tried against to tone down her rage and sorrow, focusing on the taller, drafter Vigilum brute before her. I wouldn’t either if didn’t live close to it, and even then I try not to know this place. Despite herself, her lips twitched in a sign of amusement. "Do you call Mount Vigilum home, then?" she asked, assuming that must be what he meant. The mountain wasn't too terribly far from this god awful swamp. Who do you suspect, and why? Was there another's scent with Leviticus’s when Decay tracked them? Of course, the question was expected, but it still stung. It made her feel like he was questioning her devotion to her family, even though she knew that wasn't his intentions. She huffed softly, thinking of the Shire that had plagued her family and friends for so long, teeth grinding for a moment. "I have no proof of it, but when it comes to things going wrong with my family and friends, Charm will always be my number one suspect." She spat his name out like it left a foul taste in her mouth, her lip curling into a sneer. "But his scent was nowhere to be found anywhere near the scene, and the prints Decay managed to find were not large enough to belong to him. Besides, from what Decay saw, from the prints, it looks like Leviticus went willingly with whoever she encountered in Geysir." She paused, closing her eyes a moment, defeated. When she reopened them, even the milk white blind eye was glimmering with sorrow. "Leviticus has been warned all of her life the dangers that bastard poses to her, and her brother. She would never, never, willingly go anywhere with him or any known associates of him."Sunfrost w/ Duramus 446 | Lady FantasmaShe mad >.< 8 years 10 months, late summer, morning, Leviticus is missing

DURAMUS Dur took the brief amusement Fan showed as a good sign – she was clearly in a lot of distress, and whatever Dur could do to alleviate that, he would. Do you call Mount Vigilum home, then? That was a complicated thing to explain, and Dur opened his mouth and closed it a few times as he thought of how to make it make sense. Yes and no he responded. I’m there most of the time, and any horse seeking the Vigilum can find one of us there, but none of us call it our actual home. My home is technically all of Wild Equines…but I spend most of my time there. He wondered if that made any sense whatsoever. The Vigilum weren’t necessarily banned from living on the Mount, and Nati had done so after retiring from the Vigilum and continued to live there upon her return, but Dur considered the Mount more of a base camp than anything else. It was a safe place, but also a place of business. Dur sometimes wished he had another location entirely divorced from that, but he loved what he did as a Vigilum, so for now it worked well.
The Vigilum listened carefully as Fan described how she had no proof, but that when things went wrong with her family, Charm was her number one suspect. Sensing history there, Duramus filed that information away and listened as Fan went on to say his scent hadn’t been found anywhere near the scene, and that it seemed as though Leviticus chose to go with whomever she had encountered. Was it forced or willing? That would be what Dur wanted to find out. And maybe Charm had sent someone else and they had brought Leviticus to him? Dur didn’t know the extent of history there, but he knew of Charm. He made it a habit to keep as up to date on herd happenings as he could, and Charm’s…business was a well-known source of anger and angst in the realm. Dur wished he could do something about it as a Vigilum without appearing biased against a herd leader. Was there no edict for crimes against equinekind?
Fan finished by claiming that Leviticus would never go willingly anywhere near Charm or his associates. Dur nodded, gray eyes blinking gently as he pondered the information Fan had given him. It sounds as though Charm has purposely targeted you and yours before? he asked, wanting to learn more about that particular situation. How long has she been missing? he added. The length of time could tell him whether this was a disappearance situation or a long stay with a friend. He needed to know more facts about the situation before he could state make more solidified assertions.

x LADY FANTASMA A notorious man hater, Lady Fantasma was not too happy about having to rely on yet another man for potential information. First Decay (who had found a bit of a trail, but in the end, had not been successful) and now Duramus. Would he be helpful at all, or would the Vigilum member lead to yet another dead end? It had been several months since Leviticus had been taken (because Fan was sure that was what had happened) but without any true evidence, there hadn't even been a sign of a struggle, they could not just go charging into The Whore House. That would just start more violence and war, putting her family and herd mates in great danger. Charm was not someone to be messed with, and if he had taken Leviticus, then he knew they would be coming as soon as they found out. He would not be letting his borders go unguarded. Anyone trying to enter would surely leave with a few new scars - if they ever left at all. She thought of poor Talia, who had been trapped by Charm for so long, despite being an angel. And Caelius was still missing, too - and Fan was damn sure Charm had been the one to take him as well. Yes and no Fan quirked a brow at him, curious. I’m there most of the time, and any horse seeking the Vigilum can find one of us there, but none of us call it our actual home. My home is technically all of Wild Equines…but I spend most of my time there. A nomad, huh? Fan was no stranger to the nomadic lifestyle. She had lived as a nomad for a portion of her life as well, though she much preferred living in a herd. Dark Woods was nice. "I call Dark Woods home, but I am familiar with the nomadic lifestyle as well. I must admit, for me, herd life is much more preferable. It's easier to keep track of my family that way." She paused, eyes darkening with anger yet again. "Usually, anyway." Damn it all to hell! Could she and her family ever catch a break? It sounds as though Charm has purposely targeted you and yours before? Fan's skin crawled just hearing Duramus speak Charm's name and she huffed out an unamused bit of laughter. "You could say that," she snapped, clearly bitter toward the Shire. How long has she been missing? Tensing, jaw clenching, Fan eyed Duramus and the only thing that kept her from snapping at him again was the fact that he was a Vigilum member and if anyone could help, it would be the Vigilum. "At least six months now. All trails have been washed away since then. We are left with nothing but our suspicions, lacking proof that anything malicious happened. He's not even come to gloat and run it in our faces, which is unlike him." She sighed, defeated and drained. "I suspect Charm has Caelius, too. He's been missing even longer than Leviticus. He is a Nephilim - and Charm's son."Sunfrost w/ Duramus 516 | Lady Fantasmanotes 8 years 10 months, late summer, morning, Leviticus is missing

DURAMUS Duramus listened and couldn’t help his smile as Fan discussed how she somewhat understood his lifestyle. She called one place home, but apparently used to be a nomad. Fan expressed that herd life was much more preferable because it made it easier to track family, something Dur couldn’t help but express a fervent head nod to. He noted her anger as she mentioned how it “usually” worked that way, current situation excepted. I can understand that he offered. My son, Ruse, does not really live with me anymore. The moment he turned one, he started wandering everywhere, separately from his mother, too…and it’s been hard to meet up with her, too... It occurred to Dur that he hadn’t heard from or seen Esalu for a while. He hoped she was all right, and resolved to find her at some point soon. Theirs had been a union of affection, though it hadn’t ended up being what one would call a traditionally stable relationship. That had been fine for Duramus, though. His lifestyle wasn’t necessarily suited to that kind of arrangement. I imagine if we all lived in the same herd, it would be far easier to keep up with each other he concluded, knowing that he needed to bring the conversation back up and around away from his inner musings.
The bay draft mix listened with rapt attention as he asked about Charm’s history with Fan. Even mentioning his name caused a reaction from her. The moment he asked how long she had been missing, he was regarded almost with suspicion before he received an answer. Six months gone, no trails left, only suspicion. Dur nodded, his gray eyes sympathetic as Fan described how she assumed Charm also had Caelius – perhaps another family member, and apparently Charm’s son. That surprised him, and clued Dur in slightly to just what kind of history Fan and her family may have with the leader of the Whore House. And a Nephilim, to boot…there was too much here to unpack, and a lot Dur imagined Fan wouldn’t necessarily want to share with a stranger like him, Vigilum or not.
Would you like for me to go to the Whore House and investigate for you? he asked, completely serious. As a Vigilum, he should (in theory) be a bit more protected than any other random wanderer showing up. Charm would doubtless understand that taking a Vigilum member hostage would be bad. And for Fan, who had clearly already suffered so much, Duramus was willing to take the risk. Better him than someone else, or Fan herself, who had already been through enough with this stallion. Dur would rather find the root cause and see what he could do to bring about a solution. It was putting on the diplomacy hat of the Vigilum – one of the many that they wore, in addition to healer of the mind and body. To Dur, it almso seemed to be one of the most forgotten.
tagged// fleabittengray notes// I legitimately will march him into the Whore House to conduct this investigation or do something for Fan - did you already have a rescue plan in mind that Dur could be part of? I've gotten attached during this thread <3

x LADY FANTASMA TW: sexual assault mention Fan and her family had suffered greatly throughout the years. She'd often wondered if her family line was cursed, and if it extended to those that were "family" by association. She wondered if it was because Rasa was her grandmother. Maybe those related to the Lady or Lord of Utopia were doomed to chaos in their own lives... maybe that was why Rasa went through so many Lords, and always seemed to be struggling herself when Fan saw her. Rasa tried to hide it, sure, but Fan could pick up on the elder angel's stress. She related to her grandmother a lot, however, and understood why Rasa didn't just take a group of angels and ransack The Whore House, looking for Leviticus as well as for Caelius. It could just lead to more trouble, especially if they weren't there in the first place. Charm had already held one angel captive... for so long... and no one knew how he'd done it. She knew Rasa didn't want to risk that again, especially with him being aligned with the Underworld - quite openly, she might add. I can understand that Duramus's voice brought her out of her thoughts and Fan realized she had developed a deep frown on her lips. She did not try to fix that, nor her furrowed brow, as she listened to Duramus. My son, Ruse, does not really live with me anymore. The moment he turned one, he started wandering everywhere, separately from his mother, too…and it’s been hard to meet up with her, too... Hearing that Duramus had a son warmed her heart a little, just enough for her ears to twitch forward for a moment, a display of interest. She had always been a motherly type, even if she'd never expected to have a child of her own due to her literal hatred toward the vast majority of men (and being a lesbian). Not that she didn't love her daughter, Dragula, but she really would have preferred to not have been assaulted for her conception... "Well, should you ever decide on settling down some place, I'm sure Vojorn would be more than happy to welcome you and your family." Dark Woods already was quite a large her, but they had never turned anyway away who meant no harm, to her knowledge, when they came seeking a place to live. I imagine if we all lived in the same herd, it would be far easier to keep up with each other. Fan nodded, followed by a heavy sigh as she briefly looked down toward the ground, her left eye, a pretty blue color, observing the muck that made up the Mire.
