If she was able to shake the discomfort that she felt lingering beneath her skin at the idea that she was working for someone else... She might feel somewhat accomplished. But being who she was, the individual she always had been, it was difficult to accept the win. She had successfully completed the first task set out for her, and that had been to bring the mare Inertia to the Outlands for "safe keeping", so to speak. Realistically, however, she recognized that this was a job that had been assigned to her... Something that benefited someone else, and not her. Sure, at the end of the day, she had done what was asked of her because of what she would get in exchange... Cooperating with Xerxes after all was a means to an end, for satisfying his requests would eventually provide her with the power she required to conquer others. That did not make it easy, particularly when the Helkaer as a group, let alone Sly herself, had been the last sort of equines who would actually ally with anyone. Yet, here they were. Allied with the Underworld. Working alongside the Dark Royals, if required. It was fucking weird and uncomfortable, but Sly was willing to do what she had to so that she would have a fighting chance against the Utopians.
Inertia was supposed to be used as an example - a mortal who had both a fascination with and a dedication to the Utopians. In particular, their fallen Lord Nehemiah. Xerxes' plan was to take her captive, to show what would happen when one opposed the Underworld. Inertia's imprisonment, forced upon her by Sly and watched by Xerxes, would show that not even the god-like being Rasa could save you. It was for this reason that Inertia now was held against her will within Oinaze, biding her time until Xerxes was ready to complete the final portions of his plan. While he worked towards this, Sly had other tasks to work towards as well. The second assignment that had been offered to the Helkaer Brotherhood had been regarding cambions. Xerxes had explained to Sly, Nemesis and Harlan that his intention was to focus on the children of the Underworld, and ensure that their beliefs and allegiances lay where they should. If they did not, they would be targeted. Them, and their loved ones. The Helkaer were to seek out these cambions, these Utopian supporters... Sly knew of at least one lingering within the Light Kingdom for certain, from when the Light Queen had been a little naughty... The Helkaer Commander had sought possession of the cambion child, Naida, previously - but instead, she had ended up with the custody of the Light King Solovey instead. A fair trade, in her mind. But now, Naida was a target once more.
She was preparing to journey to the Light Kingdom when she spied a body lingering upon the borders of her domain. Amidst the smoke and mist stood a lone figure. She narrowed her voids in order to peer through the vapour more clearly, an invisible brow raising when she saw who it was that stood before her. She called out to him, her words cruel and mocking, "Well, well, well. Who do we have here?"

The young stallion had no idea what came over him when he woke up that morning, but he knew he wanted to do something bold, something to act. Energy was practically arcing out of his skin as he contemplated yet another day guarding Eacarrah’s borders. He wanted to get out there and do something, anything that was proactive. Ever since the Helkaer had attacked, Gavin had been on edge. The silver tobiano buckskin had been unable to sit still, practically living along the borders of his land due to constant patrol and wariness. The war was only growing more violent and dire with each passing day. Far be it from him to be anything less than prepared for what would come to pass. Yet today, of all days, Gavin finally knew what was eating away at him. His constant wariness was replaced by a need to act and a need to know. Was the Helkaer’s raid of Eacarrah due to whatever his mother had done in not paying back Sly? Had the Helkaer Commander herself initiated this raid? And Gavin knew he had to know, right at this moment, or it would constantly bother him.
Feeling more than a bit reckless, Gavin took off, loping into a steady canter as he made his way beyond Eacarrah and towards the Outlands. It was a bit of a journey, and he’d never been out that way before, but he knew where the Commander of the Helkaer lived. She’d been Commander likely longer than he’d been alive, and his mother had mentioned at least that much knowledge to her children that weren’t her direct heirs. Gavin used that knowledge now, eventually coming to a land that matched the poisoned description of Oinaze. Along the borders he lingered, suddenly overcome by a sense of unease. What was he doing? This land could kill him as easily as its inhabitants. He was no longer a completely unblooded youngster who had never fought in his life, but he was no match for a trained Helkaer warrior, was he?
A voice sounded then, a voice that instantly made a chill creep down his spine. Turning his gaze, Gavin’s violent eyes caught the flame colored form of the Helkaer Commander herself, calling out in that cruel and mocking tone of hers Well, well, well. Who do we have here? Gavin knew there was only one thing for it. He drew himself up, muscles tense and ready to spring, and gave as honest a response as he knew how. You know who I am he neighed, dispensing of the pleasantries and getting straight to the point. Sly had been the same way when she’d come calling into his lands, and he would return the favor. Are the Helkaer going to attack Eacarrah again? Was that your initiative in return for the favor my mother left unpaid? There. He’d said it. Now he’d see if she was going to attack and rip him limb from limb or not.

When her chasms came into focus, and she realized the identity of the individual before her, she was surprised. Poor young Gavin. He had suffered such a terrible fate already. Having been left with the burden of a favor owed by his mother, simply because she had abandoned him, and he had taken over her domain. Having been the target of Nemesis' raid. All Helkaer eyes pointed on him, at one point or another. She recalled how fearful he had been when Sly had come visiting to his lands, seeking out his mother, and encountering him instead. He had been right to feel such terror. But clearly despite the impression that the Helkaer Commander had left, as well as the damage that the raid had caused him and his lands, he had not been too concerned to stay away from The Outlands. What had made him so confident? "You know who I am." The vocals were released from a tensed bod, his musculature coiled beneath his dual-painted pelt. "Indeed, I do." The fiery witch responded plainly, but then eyed him suspiciously. "What I don't know, is why you were so bold to have come here." Particularly, why he was so bold to have come here alone. Whatever Gavin thought he was doing, he was putting himself at great risk. The Helkaer Commander was curious to know his motives, before she proved to him just how much danger he had truly placed himself in.
"Are the Helkaer going to attack Eacarrah again? Was that your initiative in return for the favor my mother left unpaid?" He wasted no time in asking her, drawing her attention. Why would the brotherhood waste their time targeting a territory that they had already combatted? Sly's favor aside, that was. "Has Eacarrah aligned with Utopia?" Sly demanded in kind, voids thinning into slits as she glared. She would have been surprised if the neutral territory had made any choice aside from supporting the heavens, though she supposed they could have kept to their namesake and simply stayed out of the feud. But otherwise, she couldn't imagine why he might be here if it was not related to the war. After all, Sly had only made threats - it had been her second-in-command, Nemesis, who had actually taken action upon Eacarrah. "Believe it or not, and unfortunately for you, that attack had nothing to do with me." Well, that was more or less true... Nemesis had known about what Sly had been owed by Eacarrah, and had decided to make it known to Gavin that the Helkaer would not forget this debt. But the raid had not been a collection of the debt, nor had Sly asked this action be taken by her protege. Even despite what Nemesis had done... Sly was still unpaid.
