The iron maiden moved across the ash strew turf of her home with purpose, each stride forced into the earth with determination and drive. Today she had decided, strangely for her, to remain within Oinaze, her most recent encounter with the formidable commander still placed at the forefront of her grey matter. Avversaria had never felt quite right, never felt at home with herself nor the skin she was contained within in. She had felt very much an imposter, an unwanted entity contained with a body that may not have been hers. And in some strange way, that was true. Her mind, body and soul were hers and yet they were not. The force that controlled her in her most dire times was the main inhabitant, the very reason she now existed was to house that soul, to give it another chance. Was she upset by this? Not at all, the idea of being a conduit for a once Lady of Hell, a nefarious entity that in her mortal years had been a force to be reckoned with, was but a blessing and an honour to her. Avversaria could feel her, Artemisia, she could feel her coil around her soul when necessary, she could feel her thoughts and feelings as if they were her own. What an enigma, what a puzzle. The enlightenment Sly had bestowed upon Avversaria was invaluable, it was worth more than she could ever say. It had added a fervour to her ire and a vehement desire to do better, to be better.
The silvery hag moved across the charred hellscape of Oinaze, translucent tendrils of mist swirling at her knees as she swung her atlas this way and that, scouring the borders for intruders. They were at war after all, and who could blame the opposition for feeling above their post? With the inflated egos of the Utopians acting as wind in their sails, Avversaria was almost not surprised to see a lone figure crossing the sands in the distance. Her towering mass halted squarely, four half moons marked into the topography as she kept her halcyon lampistras firmly upon whomever was brave enough to approach. There was a moment, a brief pause in time where that familiar pendulum motion took place, a swaying within her bones that rocked her as the serpent in her soul seemed to rouse. Let her come and play, let her have her fill on whatever equine thought themselves brave enough to venture this far from home. Whilst Avversaria may have laid in wait, biding her time to truly assess the situation, the soul of the once Queen of Hell was not so forgiving. With a furious roar that shook the ashen atmosphere, the dimly lit clouds shielding the autumn sun from warming the earth below.
The dappled iron wraith powered towards the stranger, her jaws set, her lobes flat against her poll. Let there be no illusion as to who she was about to encounter. The hag thundered across the turf, her nape held in a powerful arch, her limbs snapping up in a lofty thrice beat. The mare before her was an inch or two smaller, their builds similar. Yet whilst Avversaria bore no trinkets, this stranger was draped in strings of gold and beads of bone, a necklace suspended around her nape with a shimmering stone. Avversaria skidded to an abrupt halt before the intruder, her golden pools two glowering holes within her eerily beautiful features. A mass of silken obsidian tresses shifted about her nape, framing her facade in an almost ethereal way. Otherworldly and intimidating, fiercely beautiful and deliciously savage all at the same time. Avversaria slowly raked her eyes over the other mare, a cynical brow arching as her raspy, seductive tones escaped her. I've a feeling you're far from home, she began, her tones firm, What business do you have with the Helkaer? Sunfrost Words

Regina wasn’t sure what led her in the direction of the Outlands today. Perhaps it was impatience, or merely desperation. Solovey, her best friend, the father of their twins, was still missing. She hadn’t been able to find him. Their children were growing up without a father, where they actually should have had one. It was unconscionable for Regina. What kind of mother was she if she couldn’t find their father? Solovey had been through enough, ascending to be King, getting her back from the Dark Kingdom…if the Helkaer had him, she wanted to know, and to free him by any means necessary. She played a part in the war now, siding with Utopia, though it wasn’t as known as she it could be. She’d stayed on the down low, barely made any sort of impression. All of that could change in an instant. She could go out and do something, or she could continue to wallow in Rain Forest Beach and do nothing.
Depositing her children under the watchful eye of another – they were yearlings now, and should do well enough without her there constantly – Regina made her way out of the Light Kingdom, nervously casting her dark teal eyes about to pick up on any threats to her being. She wore her sunstone necklace, and the beads threaded in her mane and tail clicked together gently as she made her way out. Her looks bespoke Light Alliance very strongly, from the white splashes across her light gold cream splash coat to the yellow, gold, and white color of her beads. How was she to do anything useful? She’d probably be attacked on sight. Brainstorming, Regina thought furiously even as she proceeded to the Outlands. Maybe she’d be able to collect information by pretending to be a spy? But what could she possibly lie about?
She was knifing her way across the Outlands, totally lost in thought, when a loud sound interrupted her. Trying not to curse, Regina’s eyes saw the form of an iron gray mare, taller even than Regina, thundering her way towards her. She moved gracefully, but there was no mistaking the fury in her eyes, the wrath that those hooves could wrought if Regina let them. Regina paused in her trot, letting the mare approach, projecting confidence outwardly while inwardly trying not to flee on sight. What had she gotten herself into? And without a plan, to boot! The stranger examined her, and Regina determinedly did not shift as she waited under her purview for the inquiry she knew was coming. I’ve a feeling you’re far from home. What business do you have with the Helkaer? This mare acted like she was a Helkaer herself, but she had no marking upon her hide. What was Regina going to say? Why was she even out here?
Scouting, information…maybe Regina could return with information! Helkaer, are you? she neighed, trying to mimic the ferocious demand within the other mare’s voice with her own tone. I don’t see a brand upon your pelt. She made her dark teal eyes rake the mare’s hide, as though she could set fire to it. I come with information for the Underworld on Utopia she quickly invented, hopefully keeping the same tone. But I don’t know if you are who you say you are – a Helkaer. Let the mare defend herself from that! Regina hoped she could bluster her way out of this, and perhaps learn something to boot, but how far would her acting skills go? This was certainly the boldest thing she’d done to date.
tagged// A z z y notes// Lol she's trying her best, feel free to have Avversaria catch her in the lie or play along and reverse the tables to try and get information from her. I didn't see it going this way when I started typing, but here we are! XD

Avversaria held the stranger in her scrutiny with an unyielding ferocity, the depths of her molten gems held the gold and bone stained woman relentlessly. Whatever shifted behind her, be it leaves or translucent tendrils of fog, Avversaria did not release her from her gaze. She held the attention of the iron maiden with ease, yet there was something hollow about her confidence, something fake. As Avversaria demanded to know why she stood upon the ashen borders of Oinaze, there was a pause, a fleeting moment that could have been interpreted as doubt. Avversaria did not shift, she did not soften her stance in the presence of the intricately adorned woman, but instead rose her jaw higher, looking down upon her as if she were but shit upon the floor. And to Avversaria, that's precisely what she was. Helkaer, are you? Came the retort, matching the dominant tones of Avversaria. Yet whereby the stranger tried to mirror the taller equine, Avversaria merely grinned, a dangerous smile that dissected her swarthy lips as her atlas cooked slightly. I don't see a brand upon your pelt. At these words, and as those teal optics danced across Avversaria's hide, the valkyrie merely chuckled, a sound almost too soft for such a hag of a woman.
Well, aren't you an observant little thing, she cooed, yet the edge to her words would not go unnoticed. I come with information for the Underworld on Utopia. But I don’t know if you are who you say you are – a Helkaer. The rest of the stranger's reasoning was delivered before the iron maiden could continue, her salmon pink vernacular sliding along the voluptuous curve of her lips as she stared almost hungrily at the other woman. Her brow furrowed, deeply and deliberately as she studied the vix, a playful shimmer entering those molten eyes of hers. I did not claim to be a helkaer, she began, a single step taken towards her with ease. I simply queried what business you, a stranger, would have with them… she purred, her husky tones dripping from her mug as she took another pace forwards. Each step was taken with precision, a calculated trail towards the prey before her. Would she quake beneath her? Avversaria almost expected it, she could almost taste the way in which this encounter would play out. Soon enough, she stood but half a metre from the mare, shoulder to shoulder, head to tail. Her nares flexed and expanded, the audible rattle of oxygen being pulled into her lungs could be heard. The stranger stank of iodine and salt, a scent she had become familiar with at the coronation of Hunroor…
What is this information you have? Avversaria barked, distrust glowering in her optics as she rounded the mare, striding around her until she stood back at her helm once more. Need I remind you, it is you trying to enter my home. If anyone should doubt the other's true intentions, I'd hazard a guess it'd be me… she snarled, almost seductively as her crown rose, readying to face the deceit this stranger may throw her way. The steel and snow stained witch remained steadfast, unyielding as the winds of the desert whipped and pulled at her obsidian tresses. The warning hung in the air - if she was to bolt, now would be her opportunity to do so. Well? This time the single syllable was a demand, leaving her counterpart little time to cobble together whatever half truth she wished to spill into the void between them. Then, and only then, would Avversaria decide her fate…

The mare in front of her wasn’t buying it. Regina thought her assertion wasn’t just her worry speaking, but also borne of observation. This stranger regarded her as one would a pile of dung, and only seemed to smirk, as though she saw right through Regina’s façade. And maybe she did, but the Light mare suddenly found herself determined to go through with this anyway. Eventually being found out as false was much, much better than suddenly being attacked. The longer the tall Regina could put off fighting, the better. She really wasn’t much of a fighter at all. The stranger chuckled as Regina accused her of not being Helkaer – what kind of reaction was that? Shouldn’t that have elicited some sort of reaction, given they danced upon the borders of a Helkaer land?
Well, aren’t you an observant little thing. The mare cooed the words, talking down to Regina in the way only Darks did. Regina restrained herself from gritting her teeth. Must all those who supported the Underworld and walked in darkness be so damn unnerving? What was the game? Regina delivered the rest of her story, a pitch of sorts. The mare stared at her as though she was dinner, and the gold cream champagne barely repressed her answering shiver. Hadn’t she gone through enough? What was she even doing here, playing this dangerous game? Did she truly feel so powerless now that her only recourse was to put herself in dangerous situations? Hadn’t she learned enough from when she and Solovey had explored the Dark Kingdom lands, been accosted, stolen, and then rescued by a Versai? Those actions had led her best friend to become Light King, and now he was gone. Regina supposed she simply had had nothing more to do with herself than this.
The arrogant mare explained, as though to an idiot, that she had not claimed to be a Helkaer, but had instead queried what business Regina could have had with them. The mare came closer to her, which made Regina instinctively tense and draw herself up even further into her seventeen hands of height in an attempt to answer intimidation with intimidation, as unintimidating as she was to begin with. If you query as to my business, one would assume you are a Helkaer or associated with them, because why else would you care? Regina retorted, answering the woman’s unspoken query. It made sense to Regina, anyway. The mare suddenly asked her what information she had, circling her, telling her it was Regina trying to enter her home, and therefore she had full rights to be suspicious.
You certainly act the part Regina mused, as though considering whether to part the information she was about to make up to the mare in front of her. I suppose you may be representative of the Helkaer after all. She eyed the mare warily still, teal eyes meeting the mare’s own. I bring news from Rain Forest Beach she neighed, deciding to start with some half truths. The Lights continue to not know where King Solovey is, and King Naberus remains…unwell. She would try to avoid divulging that information until she had to, and she imagined the piece of information about Solovey was well known. Her voice wavered slightly as she mentioned Solovey, but she berated herself mentally and injected additional steel into her voice as she neighed Queen Nixi will take drastic action to protect the Light Kingdom. The action is unclear so far…maybe siding with Utopia, maybe forming additional defense mechanisms. Both might happen, Regina knew, but it wasn’t like she had given away key details yet, and Regina also knew Nixi had not formally sided them with Utopia yet, but some disinformation could go a long way. How might the Helkaer prepare for this, as allies of the Underworld? she asked, wondering if the mare would divulge any information in response to the news she offered. Regina hoped she would have something, anything of note to take back, but if the stranger made to attack her, Regina had no doubt she would flee rather than remain.

It perhaps had become second nature for the iron maiden, to discern a liar from one who spoke truth. Her lack of trust had been implanted deeply within her from the moment she took her first mouthful of fresh air. She had never forgotten the look in her mother's eyes, nor the callous disregard shown to her by the striped cretin who had delivered her to Sly when she was old enough to not need her mother's teat. They had hated her, the two who were supposed to encourage, love and support had treated her as if she was infected, a sore upon the world, one they must rid themselves of. If one could not trust the very vessel they were forged in, how could they trust anyone? Avversaria kept the stranger in a death stare, barely seeming to blink as she devoured the image of the woman before her. No matter how much she denied it, the fact this bitch claimed to be an ally of the Underworld did not sit entirely well with Avversaria. If you query as to my business, one would assume you are a Helkaer or associated with them, because why else would you care? Avversaria levelled her gilded scrutiny upon the mare yet offered her silence as an accompaniment. Let her dig and dig until her lies swallowed her whole.
You certainly act the part, the stranger surmised, rousing an amused snort to force its way through her iron hued nasal passages. Without missing a beat, Avversaria interjected with And you do not. However, she did not say another word, curious to see and hear how this ice and sun stained intruder would justify their actions. I suppose you may be representative of the Helkaer after all, she began and Avversaria grinned, a devilish smile that held nothing but ill intention and dastardly thought. I bring news from Rain Forest Beach. The Lights continue to not know where King Solovey is, and King Naberus remains…unwell. Avversaria remained silent, her lobes twisted forwards, attentive, keen to discover more, to decipher fact from fiction. The names spoken already had been whispered to her in passing - Solovey a measly King, fell by Sly. And Nabreus? The black sheep, the one facet of the royal family they had tried to keep hidden. Still, the shiver of her vocal cords when mentioning Solovey was enough to pique the interest of Avversaria… why? Why did the name have such an impact when the savage, mad king’s did not?
Queen Nixi will take drastic action to protect the Light Kingdom. The action is unclear so far…maybe siding with Utopia, maybe forming additional defense mechanisms. How might the Helkaer prepare for this, as allies of the Underworld? Avversaria hummed thoughtfully, her features softening slightly as she twisted her countenance to view the borders of Oinaze in distance. Was this the mare's first rodeo when trying to lie through her teeth? It certainly felt like it. Avversaria allowed a smile, one that could be misconstrued as friendly, curl her lips slightly, her beautiful features turning back to face the stranger. There was a moment of calm, of ease, the once hostile demeanour of the iron maiden relaxing into something a little more warm, perhaps. Her crown bobbed, as if accepting the information, as if she had been successful in her endeavour to sneak by those who defended the helkaer. It has already been factored into our approach when dealing with enemies… she purred, a wry smile curling her lips. Particularly those who have already proven themselves to be weak, unprepared and open to repeated attacks… was she prodding the bear for some sort of reaction? Definitely, but the weakness in the armour was already there.
We are also prepared for piss poor attempts at deceit… that same sultry purr rolled through her as that friendly facade slowly eroded. Avversaria sank her lobes into the flat of her dome, her lips tightening across her canines as a snarl threatened to rumble from deep within her bosom. You claimed to have intelligence for the Underworld yet you have simply asked for our own strategy against an enemy barely worth considering? Tell me, Avversaria's towering mass seemed to grow as she coiled the muscles beneath her hide, her tendrils snapping against her hocks as she took a predatory step towards the other mare. How far did you expect your lies to carry you? And how quickly can your legs save you from them? This was the stranger's chance to run, to pencil this down as a failed attempt, to learn from it. For as Avversaria took another step in her direction, the window of opportunity was closing for the mare to bolt, as all the lights did…

And you do not. Regina decided to ignore that even as her unease built. This mare apparently saw right through her. Either Regina was a far worse actor than she thought, or this mare was great at detecting lies. Probably both. Regardless, the Light mare knew she wanted to forge on and see if she could get something, anything at all out of this interaction. As Regina acknowledged how Helkaer-like the mare in front of her was, her teal eyes did not miss the threatening look on the stranger’s face. This mare seemed as though she was willing to entertain Regina for now, but how long would that last? Regina noted the mare’s attentiveness as she delivered her “news” from Rain Forest Beach, and knew that no matter if the stranger thought Regina was a liar, she was still going to get what information she could from the gold cream champagne.
As Regina delivered further information and posed her question, she noticed that the Helkaer affiliate’s gaze became fixated on the horizon, past Regina, and that she emitted a quiet, thoughtful hum. Did that mean she was buying Regina’s story? The Light mare waited with bated breath, not daring to believe it as the Dark mare turned to face her with an almost friendly smile on her face. Regina felt danger in the air, though, wishing to but unable to believe that things were truly working out in her favor, not after the beginnings of this exchange. The mare nodded, as though accepting what Regina said as truth, yet Regina fought the urge to relax. She remained tense as the mare spoke, purring that this information had already been factored into the Helkaer’s approach, particularly those already inclined towards their attacks. Regina did not react, even as she wished she could get more specifics.
She certainly got them as the mare declared they were also ready for piss poor attempts at deceit, the friendliness evaporating as the mare challenged her directly, asking how far she expected her lies to carry her and how quickly her legs could carry her, to. Regina gulped, knowing she had been seen through for the liar she was, and knowing that if she chose to stay, it would need to be out of preparedness to battle, for only a battle would be the outcome. And did she want to fight, here, far from her herdland and deep within enemy territory, with no allies nearby? Her, with little to no combat experience, against what was likely a hardened veteran of the Helkaer?
The answer was absolutely not, and it was with much alacrity that Regina turned on her heel, bucking out once with her back legs in case the stranger had started pursuit and gotten closer before galloping away as swiftly as she could go. Panic labored her breaths, panic and endless mental beratement for her sheer stupidity. What had she hoped to achieve, coming out here?! This was madness! She’d learned nothing, except that she sucked at lying! But for now, Regina would save her words, and express nothing. It was obviously more important to get away, and hope that she would never face this mare again…
