ADORA | 4 YEARS | 15.2 HH | PALOMINO OVERO
what was she doing here, exactly? the word of sunset shores vacancy had changed adora’s course without a second thought, finding the thicket with ease. the question hanging in her mind every step of the way. it was no small feat to oversee lands, but she was confident in herself; young, though far from naive. it was easy for her to consider the challenges that would lie ahead having grown up a princess with the warriors blood. as a child, she watched those around her carefully. knowledge was power, and studying the ways of her elders had always played a big role in the way adora looked at the world.
so, as the sunbeam laden mare weaved through the jungle-esque foliage, she reminded herself why she was there.
adora had gotten word that queen nixi would be lingering to speak to prospective leaders. the journey seemed tormenting, but the mare was able to slip through the mouth of the thicket and into the open. cerulean eyes scanned the forest around her, the sound of waves off in the far distance eased what small troubles clouded her mind. as a stiff breeze passed by, adora let out a long winded whinny to arouse whoever was nearby, turning her body to head for what she could only assume was the heart of the forest. the mare picked up a slow trot and her ears swiveled to & fro, curious on what would remain or lord ares’ reign.
truthfully, she wasn’t complaining about the travel — it gave her time to plan a life where equine would want for nothing. ah, yes, that pesky question again, except this time the answer had never been clearer. adora had come to sunset shores to fulfill what she had left her homelands to do: that was to serve a higher purpose.
adora stopped abruptly then to sit back into her hips and let her gaze wander to the treetops. sucking in a breath to gather herself, a smile threatened to break through, but composure was everything. adora’s eyes settled in that moment, realizing that she’d found the freshwater pond. something in the air changed, causing a gruff whicker to erupt from the palomino’s throat as she noticed someone ahead of her just far enough that she could only make out glints of gold and white. hopeful that she was correct on who it might be, she called out;
“queen nixi, i am here to seek audience. with the departure of ares nune i have come to bare the title as baroness of sunset shores.”

Another friend had gone to the wind. Another loss for the Light Kingdom, as Ares Nune stepped down as leader of Sunset Shores. This beautiful iconic landmark held so much history within the Light Kingdom over the years, and if anything, Nixi had only experienced a quarter of it. Sunset Shores had been around for as long as anyone could remember, which was why it seemed only right to keep the same title over the years. With Ares Nune’s absence came the announcement from the Light Royals of an Open Land Claim, leading Nixi to check for newcomers every day. She had set an approximate time she would be in the lands, and if anyone was outside of those hours she had guards stationed to listen for calls. Today, however, she had a few hours to herself so she decided to explore the historic land. It was a task she had to delegate time to, so if she had to stand in the sun for a few hours so be it. Sunset Shores didn't stay as warm year-round as its neighboring land, Rain Forest Beach, as it seemed the mountains cut off the warmer ocean tides. It didn't seem as buried in snow as other lands further central, but there was mild accumulation around the mountain bases. Chillier temperatures were much colder for the Light Queen, as her home was always generally humid. If anything, her coat became well insulated during winter as humidity didn't necessarily mean heat, it meant dampness in the winter months. Luckily it wasn't cold enough back home for anyone to get sick from the dampness.
Nevertheless, there was no snowfall today. The buckskin splash queen stood next to a pond near the middle of the land, its edges partially frozen with frost weighing down lily pads in the middle. Everything was glistening like crystals as the sun beamed down, but it was not warm enough to melt a significant amount. Mountain wind encased the valley, meeting the cool ocean breeze. The wind chill was colder than anything. She hadn't been waiting for too long when a call rang out, her ivory-stained dial turning to her left as her audits picked up on both the call and the sound of someone approaching. Queen Nixi, I am here to seek audience. with the departure of ares nune I have come to bear the title as baroness of sunset shores. Whomever this individual was, Nixi could barely see her. They were not close enough as the only thing she could pick out was they shared the same base coat color. Her chocolate optics observed this equine for a few moments, watching how they moved and whether they were suspicious or not. Nixi was more cautious than ever with recent events. With nothing significantly standing out, she approached the mare. Not getting too close, but close enough that they could speak in normal volume, she addressed the newcomer. Welcome. I appreciate your time and decision to come here today. However, might I have your name before you claim such a title? She tilted her dial slightly, surprised by the confidence of this vixen. Confidence was not a bad thing, but to state she was going to claim leadership of this land without stating who she was or even asking came off...a little too strong perhaps. I have many questions before you can claim such a title. The Light Kingdom has been going through some trying times, so this land will not go to just anyone. There are requirements. She paused a moment. This mare wasn't anyone she had ever met within her Kingdom, and while it was absolutely fine and a good thing to have a newcomer, they had a screening process. You don't seem like you're from around here. Why do you believe you are a good fit for this land?

ADORA | 4 YEARS | 15.2 HH | PALOMINO OVERO
adora stiffened just slight as she heard hoof steps against the cold ground. her ears remained in the direction of the sound, though she didn't move to look until the other stopped. the mare realized she was right in her assumption and softened her stance, keeping her head lower than the other to respect her status in these lands. "welcome. i appreciate your time and decision to come here today. however, might i have your name before you claim such a title?" adora felt foolish then, head nodding in agreement, a small smile playing the corners of her ashen lips. "adora, your grace. please excuse my informalities; i come from the neutral kingdoms coronation. it was a long travel," she said, tipping her head. queen nixi continued, and the mare nodded along, ears pricked up to focus. adora considered her next words carefully; nixi's presence illuminated strength in a way that the younger mare had not seen in a long time, not since before the tides changed in her home.
"as you will it, so it shall be," adora affirmed with another small dip of her crown. she finally rested her body, keeping tension in her shoulders to keep herself up; she knew not to slouch, but the light queen seemed content enough that she felt confident in the fact she would pose no ill feelings. "you don't seem like you're from around here. why do you believe you're a good fit for this land?" the question was expected, and the palomino sat in silence for a brief moment to think. on her way here, she had played out a hundred different outcomes of this meeting and what it would mean for her future. as much as she wanted to bleed her life story into the words of her response, she thought better of it in that moment. adora lifted her head to take in the world around them, smile fading into something more serious.
"i hail from the verilias isles," she said. "i sought refuge in this place some months ago and laid low for a time. it is ... it's own world here, if i may. i see the hardships the light alliance has endured through the words of others; i resonate with those hardships after a lifetime of surviving my own." adora shifted her weight and cleared her throat. at four years old, barely a lifetime in itself, she still felt as if she'd lived a hundred times over. adora didn't know how much of the outside world these equines were aware of, she wondered if her homelands name would matter. she didn't care, really; her home had burned with the sins of her people.
her cerulean eyes fell on nixi again. "i was raised to be queen, and chose to be a soldier. my place as queen was never about my intelligence, my abilities ... it was about having a scape goat. something pretty to look unto while they betrayed their own blood. i took my duties as seriously as i could knowing what was to come, and trained for heavy combat under the moon with those who felt safe." adora swallowed hard. there was emotion whirling in her chest, but her expression remained unchanged. "i am familiar with the wilds of such a forest, was born of seafoam myself and believe i could bring to fruition a herd dedicated to our alliance for generations to come. sunset shores is beautiful beyond comparison to anything i've seen before, but it's structured for strategy. with the war beyond the rocky crags, i could make sanctuary here." her attention had pulled from the light queen, eyes misty as she took in the pond. adora barely realized that she had stepped to face it, a small wind brushing alabaster tendrils across her face, filled with forlorn. "i have many things to offer your kingdom if given the chance to prove it. i sought a higher power and found one under your rule that was worthy of those very same abilities my olde kings wanted to silence."

As she spoke to the newcomer, her optics overlooked her appearance. Her colors reminded her of her own daughter, Anahita, but her patterns displayed differently. Audits perked forward, listening as she spoke apologetically about not introducing herself, stating her name was Adora and that she had come from the Neutral Queen's coronation. Something Nixi had not made it on time to attend. She had ended up arriving the day after, only to realize her days were mixed up from her running around. Nonetheless, she would apologize to the Neutral Royals and catch up with them after. For now, her audits attentively focused on Adora's backstory. She came from a place called Verilias isles which the Light Queen had never heard of - likely an outside place as Adora explained her refuging here and calling it a new world. It wasn't the first time she had heard this - she remembered a meeting once with a stallion by the name of Constantine whom had significant differentials from that of any close land. Some equines here even vanished to areas outside the norm, only to come back a long time later changed. It was a mystery for sure, but nothing that phased Nixi. After finding out the afterlife not only exist, but there is a devil and angels, not to mention much more, the world outside of Wild Equines was not scary.
When Adora spoke of understanding the hardships the Light Alliance had been through, Nixi's brows squished. The public only knew half of the struggles she had experienced, so how much could this mare really understand? She began explaining she was raised to be a queen, but chose to become a soldier. She had trained heavily, and sounded ready for a war. There seemed like there was more to the story however - likely a past that perhaps she didn't want to share yet. The only problem with not sharing though was there had been too many secrets within the herds, secrets that could potentially stop someone from being lead. From being trustworthy. The Light Queen didn't particularly want to recruit outsiders for the war, but the fact of the matter was she needed them. What she needed the most was friends who she could trust with her life and her home. At the end, she stated, "I have many things to offer your kingdom if given the chance to prove it. I sought a higher power and found one under your rule that was worthy of those very same abilities my olde kings wanted to silence." Nixi's chocolate optics met Adora's cerulean gaze, possibly feeling the hardship emitting from the palomino mare.
Nixi took a few moments of silence to think of her choice of words. Wild Equines is certainly one of a kind - but I wouldn't know much otherwise, I was born here. I have heard from several individuals from the outside lands say the same phrase, however. What I do know, is it's certainly a fresh start. She paused a moment before continuing. It sounds as if someone, something tried to suppress you and you grew stronger because of it. I understand that feeling quite well. Being a pretty heir princess didn't give my alliance much faith that I could support them, especially with all of my appointed Kings disappearing. Nevertheless, they know now that I earned this position. Her gaze had not left Adora's. Just as you, have earned this land. However, as a Mainland Leader of the Light Alliance, there are many duties and responsibilities you have. Your main responsibility is your loyalty and honesty with the Light Royals, and our alliance as a whole. Partnership and trust mean everything to me. The buckskin Queen cleared her throat, trying not to tread on any touchy subjects. I will get straight to the point. I notice hesitation and heavy emotions when discussing your past, and while you can move on and heal from that here, I must state the utmost rule in our alliance. No killing. If you are found to have intentionally murdered or been involved in the murder of someone, you will be kicked out with no questions asked. So I must ask - have you murdered or assassinated anyone? If you have, this may not be the right alliance for you.

ADORA | 4 YEARS | 15.2 HH | PALOMINO OVERO
there was something in the way that nixi held adora's gaze without trying that affirmed she had made the right choice in coming here. the pale golden mare was always willing to give others respect, but few earned it with actions over their words. it didn't take long for the queen to finally speak, and she had the blonde's attention. "wild equine is certainly one of a kind," nixi said. she nodded in response, knowing this to be true even with how little she knew of it. "but i wouldn't know much otherwise, i was born here." adora blinked slow as she took the thought in. "i have heard from several individuals from the outside lands say the same phrase, however. what i do know, is it's certainly a fresh start." they were in agreement, then. adora shifted her weight as nixi began again, this time acknowledging the similarities between the two of them. it had been a long time since she'd felt seen in her life, not since losing her mother. "being a pretty heir princess didn't give my alliance much faith that i could support them, especially with all of my appointed kings disappearing." the words caught her off guard some, but she felt levelled with in that moment. adora hadn't the grace of disappearing kings, no, but being a usurper of someone's throne had it's prying eyes and petty gossip following close.
"nevertheless, they know i earned this position." the words struck a cord within her. adora wondered if she could've ever had that same feeling with her people had she not left, had it not burned to the ground in the wake of her escape. a chill found it's way down her spine, and she dared not speak, almost embracing for impact as the buckskin mare continued. "just as you, have earned this land." admittedly, she was overjoyed to hear her say it. pride was swelling within her chest, frayed nerves settling into themselves. adora wanted to reach out for the other instinctively, but she hung back, and kept a composed face. "however, as a mainland leader of the light alliance, there are many duties and responsibilities you have. your main responsibility is your loyalty and honesty with the light royals, and our alliance as a whole. partnership and trust mean everything to me." with that, adora dipped her head. "i give you my word - you needn't question my loyalty. i will prove that to you at all cost." adora wished trust was given so easily with words, but with an entire kingdom to tend to, nixi deserved to be on high alert with those around her. the other cleared her throat, and adora became stark still in wait once again.
"i will get straight to the point. i notice hesitation and heavy emotions when discussing your past, and while you can move on and heal from that here, i must state the utmost rule in our alliance," nixi said, her gaze unwavering. "no killing. if you are found to have intentionally murdered or been involved in the murder of someone, you will be kicked out with no questions asked." adora understood this. "so i must ask - have you murdered or assassinated anyone? if you have, this may not be the right alliance for you."
the pale gold mare finally, after all this time, dropped her gaze. with all of the demons that befell her, murder had not been one of them. "no," she replied after a moment. "i will tell you the truth of it now ... back then, the thought crossed my mind a hundred times. i could've ended everything. had my family, my friends, my people. hundreds of lives for a few. an eye for the whole body." there was a laugh that escaped her, looking out into the shores. "i used to think it was cowardice that stopped me from doing so. i chose to leave and many died for the mere chance my legs could make it out." adora found nixi's face again, faint remnants of a smile smile playing on her pink lips. "cowardice, bravery, stupidity ... i'm sure everyone has their own word for it. at the end of the day, i didn't do it. those who lived to see this day will be faced with their sins when they meet their maker. i am no god to be playing with others lives." the mare sucked in a breath, still stone faced, still trying to grasp the heaviness which she spoke of. "i am a soldier, yes, but i am trained to disarm. protect. dodge. those capabilities are yours as you see fit."
