Cassian The winter moon hung high in the star-studded sky, casting a silvery glow over the tiered alcove of Crystal Pools. The crescent moon-cut canyon cradled this ethereal sanctuary, a haven of tranquility in the heart of the frigid season. Cassian, ventured into this realm of crystalline serenity, the hot springs cascading in tiers like liquid staircases.
The air was thick with the mingling scents of crisp winter and the delicate fragrance rising from the warm pools. Steam curled and danced in the moonlit night, weaving a dreamlike tapestry that enveloped the stallion as he approached the first of the crystal-clear pools. The thin waterfalls, fed from underground sources, trickled and spilled into one another, creating a soothing symphony that harmonized with the rhythmic beat of Cassian's hooves against the rocky ground.
The pool before him reflected the moon's radiance, transforming the clear blue-white water into a mirror of celestial light. The sandy bottom cradled memories of warmth beneath the cold surface. Cassian, though attuned to the chill of winter, found solace in the warmth emanating from the heart of Crystal Pools.
As the guardian of honor and code, Cassian knew that the conflicts of Wild Equines extended beyond the battles on the surface. The crystalline depths mirrored the complexities of alliances and the interwoven destinies of those he sought to aid. His hazel eyes, reflecting the moon's glow, held a determination that surpassed the physical chill surrounding him.
The Vigilum brand on his flank, a mark of commitment, shimmered in the moonlight. Cassian approached the water's edge, his breath mingling with the steam as he observed the intricate dance of reflections playing upon the liquid surface. The tranquility of Crystal Pools offered a respite from the battlefield, a moment for introspection amidst the tiered wonders of nature. The powers granted by the River Justice echoed in the delicate echoes of waterfalls, a gentle reminder of his connection to a force greater than the conflicts that raged on the surface.
The guardian stallion, clad in his chestnut leopard coat, lowered his head to the water, feeling the warmth seep into his being. The winter's chill yielded to the serene embrace of Crystal Pools, and Cassian, with a heart laden with purpose, finely entered the warm water. Stone yielded to the sandy bottom and Cassian let out a long sigh of contentment. Memories of past meetings within this very pool threated to wash him away with sadness but with an effort he pushed the gloom away and settled more comfortably into a soothing water.

Winter nights where the moon hung high and visible in the sky were always quiet. Even in undeath that fact remained the same. It was still just as cold too. Cadence found himself in the freelands once more in an attempt to decompress from all that had happened. These solitary, quiet nights were often exactly what he needed. Crystal Pools expanded before him in no time. Most equines would be asleep by now. It was rare he'd run into someone so late in the dead of winter. The roan lord was surprised to see another equine in crystal pools. He was even more surprised that they seemed familiar. That was until he spotted the vigilum brand on their flank just before they sank into one of the many pools. Cadence waited a few moments before he decided to approach the stranger appaloosa. He cleared his throat as he approached the Vigilum from behind. "You're a member of the Vigilum right?" Cadence asked. He'd definitely seen the stag at coronations. His memory wasn't as great since he'd come back from the mists. Sometimes he would forget if he'd met someone before. Cadence walked until he was opposite the appaloosa. They were both some type of appaloosa. "Forgive if we've met before, the mists sometimes still seem to keeo my memory from me..." He trailed off with a gentle smile. Cadence didn't know much about the vigilum beyond what they stood for and the abilities of remediation and healing they boasted." I hope you don't mind if I join you. I don't think I've had a chance to speak st length with one of your members." Cadence spoke again as he stepped into the pool. Ot was warm, and comforting. Beyond that though it was useless. Cadence didn't really have muscles anymore as he was a soul. He needed not air nor food to survive, but sometimes he still did those things out of habit. There was something comforting in habits. It made death a little more bearable. "I'm Cadence, lord of Utopia. Can you Tell me about the vigilum? Why did you join the group?" Cadence wondered if this individual would be put off by how talkative he was being. Part of him was curious how this stallion would respond to who he was. If the bronc woukd indulge him or chastise him for his part in the war.. Cadence somehow didn't believe that fact would go unnoticed. Pippin

Cassian Cassian wasn't sure how much time had passed before the sound of someone clearing their throat broke the quite stillness of the night. Only years of training as warrior kept the Vigilum stallion from starting in surprise. No sound or scent had reach him and as the stranger spoke Cassian turned to face them. "You're a member of the Vigilum right? Forgive if we've met before, the mists sometimes still seem to keep my memory from me..." He understood then as he beheld the being behind him why none of his other senses had been alerted to the others approach. Cassian nodded his head in response to the horse before him, a member of the afterlife. But not just some random horse either but the Lord of Utopia. "That is correct, I am of the Vigilum." He spoke to the Lord, thinking back to the many events he had attended over the years. Yes he had see this stallion before but they had never properly met before now. "I've seen you from afar a few times but we've never spoken before." He responded.
For a moment his thoughts where side tracked wondering what this being had experienced in the mists. They where a mystery even to the undead that lived so near to them and few ever returned to this realm after being taken by them. His mind was pulled back to the stallion before him as he spoke again "I'm Cadence, lord of Utopia. Can you Tell me about the vigilum? Why did you join the group?""My name is Cassian. What would you like to know about my order? I sure you're looking for something deeper than what is commonly known, that we are healers and diplomats." The second question caused Cassian to pause and think hard about his answer. Why had he joined? The magic in his blood demanded truth, though he would never lie about his reasons even without that pull. "I joined because I want to help others, I've seen pain and strife. I lived a life of such and I want to do my part to end that world."
He fell quite for a time as he wondered about how to word and ask his own questions without seeming rude or brash. "You... You where in the mists before this war with The Underworld started," He said "Why do you continue it? The slights they committed, while horrendous, have no pull on you." Cadence watched as the chestnut and ivory stag turned to face him. His tones were neutral, and neither friendly nor unfriendly. He affirmed what Cadence already knew, that he was a member of the Vigilum. Cadence nodded in response to this but remained quiet. His companion also agreed that the duo had never spoken prior to this.
Cadence again nodded quietly as he felt the tension building inside of him. He'd been looking for a pleasant conversation, but he expected the diplomat to confront him about the war. That was at least part of the reason he had subconsciously avoided them since the war started.
The chestnut and ivory man introduced himself as Cassian and again affirmed what he already knew. They were healers and diplomats. He asked what else Cadence wanted to know. The roan considered the question in a thoughtful manner. "Well, what are things about your group that isn't well known that you wished was more well known?" He asked and for a moment he felt very clever.
It wasn't that clever, but at least it gave Cassian the floor to share. He did offer that he had wanted to help others and so he joined the Vigilum. "That's an honorable reason." He offered with a nod. Then the question came that he had expected. Cassian said that the sleights the Underworld had committed had no pull on him.
That was when he frowned softly. There was more to this war than a single event. That and the afterlife was different. At times, for him at least, he could feel the things that were done in his core. The pain of both the Utopians and mortals alike. Cadence remained quiet for a few minutes as he considered how to answer Cassian. "I doubt that I can say anything that will make you feel otherwise. I disagree with you that this has no pull on me. This war is about much more than the great loss of another Lord. Not to mention the severity of the fact that he was lost to the mists."
The roan offered tge gentle reminder that he knew what that was like. It had changed him more than Spike ever had. "That's true of most wars It's not usually one thing that causes them, but those who grow tired of the death by a thousand cuts. I think we are alike in that we want to help others. The afterlife is different, and maybe this is just me but I can feel the pains if Utopia and mortals alike. Each time some sleight is carried out by the Underworld. I have the power to do something about it I cannot sit idle."
Cadence expected Cassian to suggest that war wasn't the only answer. But it wasn't him who had spent years enduring this death by a thousand cuts. It was those in the afterlife furst, and then the mortals.
