Slowly, Thor's Storm drew in a deep lungful of the salt-tinged air, feeling calm wash over her in time to the soft rumble of the waves crashing against the shoreline. She smiled slightly, reminded of the name of the stallion who had led this herd when first she had arrived. It had been many years since Salty had been Lead and she could not deny that she missed him. Salty had been a dear friend and was the one who had come to trust the blind Morgan enough to appoint her as Beta of his herd. And then he was gone. Just like so many others to follow who had led this herd for a time, only to disappear. Some lasted a few years or more. Too many, it seemed, had only lasted scant months. Like one of those Lead stallions who had wanted to make Storm his Lead mare. She had declined and, given the tendency towards transience that Leads seemed to have, some superstitious part of her could not deny wondering if she had been spared some unfortunate fate by opting not to accept his offer. Either way, she had been content to remain in the role Salty had appointed her all those years ago.
Only once had her dedicated service to this land and herd been truly interrupted. Spending some free time out in the Free Lands assisting in the search for Aearion had resulted in being accosted by that vile brute, Toxic of the Helkaer. A fitting name for such a beast, though she did not voice her personal opinion regarding the stallion. She knew that Mjolnir had loved his father, despite the many faults the brute had and did not wish to complicate things further for the boy. Of course, perhaps it no longer mattered, given that Toxic had long since vanished from the lands of Wild Equines. Not a piece of news that Storm herself had grieved, though she knew it had been hard on her son. At least Mjol had managed to convince Toxic to release her by the time he was weaned. She would never forget the jaunty sound of his steps as he "led" her home, so proud of being able to help his mama.
Never mind the fact that she had actually guided him in the right direction the entire time.
That had been quite a few years back now, though, and only a few extra scars bespoke the experience. Perhaps a little extra caution as a result of what had happened. Not that she was frequently on her own these days. If he was not helping to keep track of what was going on along the boundaries of their home, Mjol was usually with her. Especially when they were out and about, be it assisting in the search for various missing equines or in visiting Danuvius in the Free Lands.
A faint frown touched the grey-pelted femmora's maw. One of the individuals she and others had been searching for the longest was finally home. Though... could he be said to be safe and sound? Storm did not know what Aranu looked like, but his scent, the sounds he made when he moved... the fact that he had clearly not recognized her when she had stopped by to see how he was doing.... And Aearion said it was no better with any of the family either. What precisely the former Light King had endured was anyone's guess, but the aging Morgan suspected much of it had to have been truly horrific. She could only imagine how heartbreaking the situation had to be for the rest of his family. She could only pray that he would find peace and healing now that he was home where he belonged.
In the meantime, her own home had a bit of a change as well. No longer was Ares Nune leading Sunset Shores, but it would seem that another had taken up the reins. What sort of leader and how long she would last, Storm was admittedly curious to find out. baroness of the shores ,
want for nothing.
the quiet world that was the shores always offered adora great peace. for the first time in her short life, she knew what it was like to not have to be on edge, and she greeted that feeling with open arms. as she always did, she woke with the first light and patrolled the borders, careful not to wake the sleeping herd members where they lay. the sun rose higher and higher, and it's warmth told her that spring would soon be underway. there were many things on her mind that morning; the singles mingle event would be starting soon, and adora knew she'd be preoccupied with it for a time. beyond that, she still had yet to meet everyone, and was pleasantly surprised as she made way for the shoreline to see someone standing there in their lonesome. the palomino painted mare flickered her ears, head tilting to the side as she watched for a time. before long, the mare started forward, taking up a slow trot on approach. she whinnied to announce her arrival, a small smile on her pink lips. adora pondered who it might be, mind still fuzzy with tiredness, but as she closed in she could tell it was the once-beta. slowing to a walk, the mare took up space beside storm, looking unto the water in the same way as the other. "the sound of the waves always brings me great pride," she found herself saying after a moment. "as i'm sure it does for you, as well." her smile faded into a line as she focused on the smooth lull of the water, a slight breeze passing through her blonde tendrils. "i am adora, sunset shores new lead. it is nice to finally be able to meet you, thor's storm. i assume i am correct in that is you?"

Harks twitched gently from time to time, keeping the blind Morgan apprised to her surroundings, but for the most part her stance was relaxed. Even in this time of war, there were moments in time where one could find peace. Time spent with loved ones. Instances of just pausing to enjoy the beauty of the world despite all the chaos. Thor's Storm had certainly lived long enough to learn how to manage all that and more. She liked to think that she had a fair store of wisdom to share with the next generation and onward. In fact, already she'd had the opportunity to offer mentoring; she still remembered the day that Aranu -- still King of the Light Alliance at the time -- had approached her about mentoring his blind son. Knowing full well how difficult life could be in a world not exactly designed for those who did not have the use of their eyes, she had been happy to help. And he had been such an eager student, enthusiastic and unfailingly energetic. It had enraged her to learn that Galaga had taken advantage of Aearion's kind heart and broken her heart to find the changes to have taken place in her young protege.
Still, he had endured and survived, and she knew that he used those experiences now to help others. And for that, she could not be more proud.
Errant wintry breezes teased at her iron tresses, bringing with them news of another equine to have approached. It was not a scent so familiar as the rest who called Sunset Shores home; it seemed she would finally have the opportunity to meet the newest individual to take up the role of Lead. Perhaps as Beta she should have been more proactive in seeking the younger mare ought to ascertain what all the future held now for the herd of Sunset Shores, but with so much going on...
Sandy terrain always made things a little more tricky, but Storm deduced that Adora was approaching at a slow trot. The precise direction of her approach was defined by a whinny that announced her arrival. Stance still relaxed, Storm turned her sightless gaze upon the younger mare as she remarked, "The sound of the waves always brings me great pride, as I'm sure it does for you as well."
A gentle smile curved the dappled grey`s lips as she nodded slightly, 'Pride might be one word. Though often it brings peace. Calm. Nostalgia.' The land of her birth had been far from the ocean, but Sunset Shores had been home far longer and at this point there were a million and one memories woven into each inch of the lands Salty had appointed her Beta.
"I am Adora, Sunset Shores new lead. It is nice to finally be able to meet you, Thor's Storm. I assume I am correct in that is you?" Introduction told Storm she had been correct about the younger equines identity. In turn, the introduction was followed by the correct guess of Storm's own identity.
Inclining her head once more in affirmation, she answered, 'It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Adora. I am indeed Thor's Storm, though you can call me Storm if you like.' Pausing a moment, "surveying" the younger mare a moment with the senses she had, Storm added, 'How have you been finding things in Sunset Shores thus far? I have been beta for... more years than perhaps I should admit to, so if there is anything you need, any information I can offer, you have only to ask.' Would she retain the position officially which Salty had granted her all those years ago? Storm had no idea, but official or not, she was unlikely to forget her duty, no matter what.
