DAHLIA
made by remi of rilla go! and adoxography
She was somewhere in the Outlands. That was all she knew. By the time they'd gotten here from Lyrarcor, it had been dark, too dark to see anything even if she hadn't been crying, sobbing the whole way. Her tears had dried now. She was all cried out. She could not cry anymore. In response to the trauma, she had now become numb. Once so vibrant and joyful, Dahlia now felt like a shadow or perhaps a ghost. All she could think about was Ragnar's grip on her brother, how the blood had flowed so freely from Hymn's throat. Everything happened all at once then. Xovad had come, charging at Ragnar, tearing him off of Hymn - and the Helkaer and their wolves had rushed her away. There had been three of them. Two grown mares, and a boy around her age, and the wolves. The wolves scared her, nipping at her heels whenever she started to slow on their mad dash to the Outlands. She supposed they had expected Val to come after them, for all of the Versai to come seeking them out, but time had passed and still she was here in the darkness. She was only allowed out with supervision, to eat, and then it was back into the tunnels, held captive, out of sight out of mind. But the Helkaer had not hurt her, not really. Nothing like what had happened to Hymn. She prayed every day that he was alive, that he had somehow survived. For a moment, tears felt like they wanted to fall again, but they never came.
Though her dark orange eyes could hardly see anything, she still tried to look around. Every day, she looked for a way out. She never found any. She missed her mom. She missed her brothers and Lirana. She missed home. Ragnar had never come to see her after that day. She wondered what had happened, why he did not come see her. Perhaps Val was holding him prisoner, and there would one day soon be a prisoner swap, and she could go home! But nothing would ever be the same. She was terribly worried about that, about not being the same. Her innocent nature had been taken and destroyed in the blink of an eye. The one thing her mother had tried to preserve, the one thing Allocen had hoped would last for much longer - gone. She would forever remember the standoff between Ragnar and Hymn, hiding behind her brother like a coward. But she had been scared. Her training had only just started! She didn't know how to fight! She still didn't. She knew only the history of Wild Equines, as much as her mother and Val had been able to tell her. She knew the names and the faces and the places to avoid - yet here she was, stuck in the Outlands somewhere. A great load of good that history had done her.
Grumbling to herself, the yearling continued to feel around the wall of the chamber that had become her "home" since being brought here. There was very dim light, only the glow of worms along the ceiling and walls allowed her to see anything at all, even though her eyes were well adjusted to the darkness by now. How long it had been, she didn't know. Only that it had been forever. Her muzzle bumped against a loose rock and for a moment, adrenaline coursed through her. She nudged against the rock, pushing and shoving, until it tumbled away from the wall leaving behind - more stone. The rock clattered a few paces away and then rolled to a stop. Silence filled the void around her again. Defeated, the adrenaline draining away from her, Dahlia huffed and leaned against the wall, closing her eyes and imagining what the sun might feel like today - and if she would ever feel it again.
