He had been away for far too long, he didn't even remember why he had been gone. The gilded stallion paced forward, a new limp apparent in his step, as he wandered through the familiar terrain of the Mire. Though he had been away, Sange Rau hoped that his friends and his leads would still allow him to remain in his post, despite his absence and his new injury. In his absence from the Mire, he had ended up with what he thought was a strained muscle, or perhaps a hairline fracture within his left foreleg. A soft snort slipped free of his muzzle as he limped his way across a path over the water of his homeland. He paused for a moment in the middle of the path as he met the gaze of a reptilian guardian. "Oh c'mon now, you remember me, I'm only a little older and a little less proud." He teased the beast as it sank back into the depths of its watery home. Chuckling softly to himself the golden stud continued into the land of his home. He just hoped that everyone still remembered him and wanted him around again, after all, he had just up and vanished for months on months. He was away from WE, away from Amira, away from Ravashi and Akrasia, away from Topthorn and Nitocris. Now that he thought about it, he had left when Kauv had announced her departure from the Mire. He shook his elegant tiara and then found his way into the clearing where they usually held their herd meetings. What better place to meet up with the others than a meeting place? He smiled, drew his seventeen point one hand frame to a halt and then, taking a deep breath he parted his muzzle and allowed his gentle bugle to escape and fade into the atmosphere all around his home. Then, he flared his nostrils and breathed in all of the familiarity of his old home. The scents of the others were weak, but he highly doubted that they were no longer here. As he stood in the clearing, he lifted up his left foreleg, just a little to relieve the pain. Now he just had to wait to see if anyone was home. Word Count: 379 "Speaking" Listening

The morning was cool yet not unbearable as winter was coming to an end, spring was right around the corner with the promise of new life and new beginnings, though no new life would be coming to the Mire in terms of foals. The ebony and ivory monarch was of the mind that she was done having foals, a mother of seven, five that had come from her womb with an additional two that she had taken the role of mother after finding them. While her age and body were not the deciding factors as Nitocris was still fertile, her mind was made up and she was ready for the next generation to take over, yet who would she choose to take the land over from herself? This was something she had debated on often, with Vi living her own life, the next eldest was Nymphadora, yet Nitocris wasn't sure if Dora had the heart and mind to defend her home and herd, a soft girl but Nitocris had been soft once.
A heavy sigh left the draft woman as she held her family within her blue and yellow gaze, Dora grazed in the distance as Noctis stood watch over them, and Lady Cyra and Vakrez lay nipping at each other lazily in the soft grass. The sound of a familiar voice alerted the family as their heads all lifted to look in the direction in which it had come, a relieved smile curved the corners of Nitocris's lips as she headed off to meet an old friend, her children in tow. She wasn't sure if Sange would remember the cambion twins she had adopted, if not then she hoped that their presence didn't alert him, they were good children and listened well to their adopted family. "Sange! Welcome home friend! Where have you been, what happened?," Nitocris called out to him at first and as she drew closer the more quieter her voice became so that she wasn't shouting at him, concern washed over her face as she noticed the way Sange held his front foreleg up. Dora and Noctis stood behind yet on either side of Nitocris as Cyra and Vakrez stood at her sides, she wasn't sure if Alec, Korinna and Topthorn would be joining them or any other herd members, it would be good if they did though so they can greet a trusted member of their herd.

As he stood within the familiar embrace of his home, the Beta stallion smiled as he was surrounded once more with the smells of his family. Then he heard a sound and his towers pricked forward toward the spot from whence the sound was coming. From within the trees he spied five very familiar forms approaching his location. His lead mare was at their head and a smile drew across his muzzle as aqua chasms settled on the onyx and ivory painted draft as his towers settled forward as she spoke, Sange! Welcome home friend! Where have you been, what happened? He smiled as the group drew to a halt before him. "Hello Nito!" He called happily as he greeted her just as warmly as she had greeted him. Then he looked at all the others in return and the smile grew, he remembered each of them and warmly greeted them all in turn as well. Then he turned back to Nitocris to answer her other inquiries. "I thank you, it is so nice to be back home once more and I need to apologize for just up and vanishing on you all." He said softly and then looked down for a moment before looking back up and continuing with the answers. "After Kauv left us, I needed to go and see if I could figure out exactly why she had to do this to us. I know she's not my mate but she and I could speak as if we were, however in my long absence from you all, I still failed to find her and ask. I felt so bad. It seemed the right thing to do." He said and fell silent again briefly before taking a deep breath and attempting to put his hoof down once more. It was a bit easier, but it still hurt a little. He had probably sprained it when he had fallen on that frozen lake on the way back. He smiled, "As to what happened, please don't think less of me M'Lady, but on my way home, I was so excited to get back and see everyone I was running and not paying close attention and I happened to slip and fall hard upon a frozen lake. I fear I may have sprained my knee and strained my ankle. I'm not as young as I used to be." He finished with a small, good natured laugh. He fully expected at least one, if not all five of them to laugh along with him at his stupidity. Gosh it felt good to be home again. "Do you happen to know where Amira may be?" He asked a little sheepishly, much like a young stud in his first relationship. He fully expected that she would likely be a little sad, or possibly angry with him for leaving her without telling her what he was doing, but deep within, he hoped that she would not be too angry at him. He only did it as he thought it would be the right thing to do for a friend and a family member. He was pretty sure she would understand that if nothing else. Life in Jade Mire seemed to have been quiet, sometimes a little too quiet. They had lost a few members, but never family. Everyone that had once lived in the Mire had been considered family - one way or another. Some members had even gone missing without a notice, one such member had been a good friend to the lord of the lands. The silver dapple eighteen hand beast moved through the lands of the Mire, enjoying the view of his home before a bugle sound entered his auditory range. Lifting his crown, he glanced in the direction that the sound had come from. Shifting his form carefully, he started to head in that direction.
As he drew closer, it was clear someone else had beat him to greeting an old friend. Mismatched voids shifted and landed upon his mate and the lady of the lands as a small smile graced his velveteens. Though, it didn't take long before his gaze shifted toward the golden stallion that had finally returned home. He had made it to them to catch the final words that had fallen from Sange's vocal cords, do you happen to know where Amira may be? A soft chuckle escaped his vocal cords as he noticed the way Sange sounded like he was in his first relationship. Hello old friend, he greeted with a deep humming voice, I am sure she will be along shortly. We've made sure that her and your children were safe and taken care of. As the words escaped, Topthorn moved towards his mate and children. My love, he greeted her with a soft nuzzle to her neck.
