As Naya lay there, grappling with the surrealism of her surroundings, fragments of memories began to flicker in her mind like distant stars in the night sky. She recalled the warmth of her newfound family, the laughter of her siblings, and the gentle embrace of the mare who had welcomed her with open arms. But amidst those fleeting moments of happiness, there was a darkness lurking—a shadow that threatened to engulf her. The memories sharpened, the images becoming painfully vivid. She remembered the predatory gleam in the stallions eyes, the sense of dread that had crept over her as he drew closer. And then... the violence, the pain, the darkness swallowing her whole.
A shudder ran through her body as she relived the horrors of what had just happened. Or had it? It felt like it was just moments ago, but it could have been days or weeks as well, she wasn't sure how this worked. She had just heard of the Afterlife, and if she was... Here, she either had to be alive or have traveled to the next life. Seeing that she felt no pain... She was betting on herself being dead. The realization hit her like a physical blow, leaving her gasping for breath in the suffocating darkness. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she struggled to come to terms with the truth of her fate. She had been murdered—her life snuffed out in an act of senseless violence. The thought was almost too much to bear, a heavy weight pressing down on her chest, threatening to crush her spirit.
But even as despair threatened to consume her, a glimmer of hope flickered in the darkness. She remembered the stories her adoptive family had told her—tales of the afterlife, where the souls of the departed found peace and solace. Could this be Asphodel, the realm beyond the mortal plane? The Afterlife that could give her another chance at life, so to speak? The thought filled her with a strange mixture of fear and curiosity. What awaited her in this mysterious realm? Would she find the answers she sought, or would she be condemned to wander the darkness for all eternity?
With trembling limbs, Naya pushed herself upright, her eyes scanning the empty expanse before her. Despite the chill that permeated the air, she felt a strange sense of determination stirring within her—a resolve to uncover the truth of her existence, no matter the cost. Taking a tentative step forward, Naya began to explore her surroundings, her senses alert for any sign of life. But the darkness remained unyielding, swallowing her footsteps as she moved through the void. Time seemed to lose all meaning as she wandered, her mind consumed by thoughts of the life she had left behind. She thought of her family, her friends, and all those she had loved and lost. Would they miss her or were they nothing more than distant memories, fading with each passing moment? Would they forget her like she was nothing?
The uncertainty gnawed at her insides, filling her with a sense of profound loneliness. But even in the depths of despair, a spark of hope remained—a glimmer of light cutting through the darkness, guiding her toward an uncertain future. As she pressed on, determined to unravel the mysteries of Asphodel, Naya knew that her journey was far from over. Whatever lay ahead, she would face it with courage and resilience, drawing strength from the love and memories that had shaped her into the person she was meant to be. And perhaps, in the heart of the darkness, she would find the answers she sought—or perhaps something even greater: redemption, forgiveness, and the promise of a new beginning.

War plagued the realms of the living and the dead, the two sides clashing for what feels like an eternity, all because of a feud started by the high and mighty. Getting her hooves dirty was not high on the Lady of the Underworld's list, yet she would fight if it were necessary, for her demons and her Lord, even though her feelings for her ruling partner were only platonic. Xerxes's children had been taken and their demons, one had since been traded for but recently Akroma had been taken, all for what? This tit-for-tat was getting rather boring and Teca was more interested in corruption rather than force-stealing Utopia's mongrels, to silently kill Utopia's numbers by getting into the minds of would-be followers and current Angels seemed far more exciting. Now she also had little helpers, such as her son Xiuh, who she hoped to use to get into the minds of the Utopian foals and one little filly seems to have taken a liking to him so far. Teca had yet to see a Utopian forsake their home to join the Underworld, and there were a lot of unknowns surrounding the what's and ifs, yet that wasn't any of her concern unless the fallen Angels were serious about changing their ways.
The Lady's elongated ears flicked as the familiar calling from Asphodel alerted her of a new soul, causing Teca to dismiss the demon she had been conversing with before setting off, interested to see what kind of soul was waiting in the frozen land of in-between. This one didn't call out for anyone in particular and didn't seem to have made a decision in which path they'd rather follow as others have in the past, calling for either Utopia or the Underworld. Instead, as Mictecacihuatl drew closer, all she heard was a feminine voice call out, "Hello? Is anyone there?". A fresh one, newly passed and more than likely scared and confused as to what is happening, believed to be dead yet living, and some don't handle that well. Sleipnir didn't as he tried to attack her upon hearing news of his sister, yet Teca welcomed him when he settled and agreed to be obedient, he didn't last long though, disappearing just as quickly as his sister had, a shame really. The decorated woman landed carefully within the frozen lands, her ruby eyes falling upon the angelic soul that she stood in the path of, waiting to see how long before the damsel noticed her. "Hello there little dove," Teca called out as she tucked her wings against her sides, waiting patiently for the other woman to join her, "are you lost dear?" she asked despite knowing the obvious answer. Nothing about this stranger screamed devilish, her soul felt soft and kind, someone perfect for Utopia yet Teca wasn't about to allow them to add another to their numbers.

As Naya'li wandered through the ethereal expanse of Asphodel, her mind still reeling from the realization of her death and the unsettling memories that had accompanied her here, she felt a chill run through her despite the relative warmth of this place. The landscape around her seemed to shift subtly, the peace she had just begun to embrace now feeling precarious, as if it could be disrupted at any moment. "Hello? Is anyone there?" she called out again, her voice trembling with a mix of fear and determination. Her ears twitched at the sound of approaching hooves, and she turned to see a figure descending gracefully from the sky. The mare who landed before her was striking—an imposing presence with wings that folded elegantly against her sides and ruby eyes that gleamed with a mixture of curiosity and something darker.
"Hello there, little dove," the mare said, her voice smooth and almost soothing, yet carrying an undertone that made Naya'li's heart quicken with unease. "Are you lost, dear?"
Naya'li took a hesitant step back, her eyes wide as she took in the sight of this otherworldly being. There was something about the mare that felt both alluring and dangerous, a paradox that left her feeling more vulnerable than ever.
"I... I think so," Naya'li replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't really know where I am or what's happening. One moment, I was..." Her voice trailed off as the memories surged back—the predatory gleam, the pain, the darkness. Shaking her head lightly, she closed her eyes for a moment, just to try and erase those memories from her retinas. She didn't want to see it and re-live it again and again.
"What is this place? I've only heard..." cutting herself off as she looked around, she tried to figure out how to best say what she meant. She still had a hard time believing that she was truly dead and had ended up in some kind of limbo, because that was what this was, right? Or was it truly the afterlife? "Is this the Afterlife?"

Once the snowy maiden noticed she was no longer alone, innocent jade green eyes widened at the sight of the Underworlds Lady, taking a hesitant step back from the red woman. Did her image bring fear to the recently dead? Teca thought she appeared quite welcoming or at least interesting enough to stick around, or maybe her beauty was just that astounding. The thought made Teca chuckle for a quick moment, her attention shifting from her inner thoughts to what the stranger was saying. "I... I think so," the maiden seemed to stammer at first, her voice barely audible, "I don't really know where I am or what's happening. One moment, I was...", this time she trailed off, as if getting lost in memories of her past life and what may have occurred before death. Mictecacihuatl allowed the woman some time to collect herself, seeing that the cremello had closed her eyes, perhaps in a way to shut out whatever bad experience that led her here, as clearly, this woman had passed away before her time was up.
After a short time, Teca's acquaintance spoke again while answering her own question, looking around as she did, "What is this place? I've only heard... Is this the Afterlife?". Taking a step closer, Teca offered a reassuring smile as she allowed the silence to take hold for a moment so that the other woman could process the new world around her. "Yes child, you have come to the Afterlife and this land you have found yourself in is called Asphodel," honeyed words flowed smoothly, confirming the woman's thoughts before finally introducing herself, "I am Lady Mictecacihuatl, one of the rulers that take care of those who come to the Afterlife." Teca was unsure how long it will take this soul to come to terms with their new life and form, some handle it well and come with a passion for either side, some get lost in their emotions and end up ceasing to exist, then there were some with this woman, who seemed to need a guiding hoof. "I can help you find purpose again, to become more than you once were, all I ask in return is your devotion," it may have been a big ask of someone that Teca had just met, to have them devote themselves to her despite Teca not truly being honest about the whole of the afterlife, that there is an Underworld and a Utopia, yet she didn't want to risk losing someone that she'd be able to manipulate into a fine demon. "And please, call me Teca, I know my name is quite the mouthful," the blood and bone woman added, curious to see how accepting this mare is and if she will be met with any resistance.
