WENDIGO
made by remi of rilla go! and adoxography
Time had passed since her captivity. And since her release. She was learning how to be free - truly free - for the first time in her life. Wendy had never been free until her grandfather had helped her out of Hound's clutches, giving her a voice in exchange for her soul, which now was kept in the hands of the Underworld. Before being held hostage, however, Wendigo still hadn't been free. She had been forced to care for her mother, Abrasia, pretty much since the day she was born. Abrasia was unstable at best, and completely unhinged at her worst. Wendy had been the only one able to calm her down and snap her back to reality - a heavy burden for a child to bare. She'd been desperate to speak to someone, anyone, about the helplessness she had felt all of her life. Yet she had been silent as a child, not because she wanted to be, but because she had been born completely mute. She had never been able to utter a sound, not a scream or a cry or a sob. Her life had been lived in silence, trapped inside her own head, wondering if it would one day drive her to madness just like her mother.
Perhaps she should actually thank Hound and his friends for keeping her locked away for so long. After all, it had lead to The Surgeon giving her a voice. Freedom. And though she still rarely spoke (she was so used to silence), it was still nice to have the option of it now. She wondered what her mother would think. It would probably make her think she was having a psychotic episode. Wendy huffed a bitter laugh as she prowled through Eden, frowning. She had yet to see her mother or any of her family or former herd members since her escape. She had learned of them being in the Royal Lands. But she did not care to seek them out. After all, no one had come to her aide. So long she had waited, hoping someone would come for her, or at least try to. No one ever did. Not until The Surgeon had come. It had taken a miracle for her to get away. So why bother going to her mother or to any of the others? Let them think she was missing. Let them think she was dead. Let them feel some of the anxiety and fear and pain and sorrow she had been forced to feel. Though unlike her, they would have others to seek comfort in. But Wendigo? She had been alone. The only interaction she'd had was when someone would toss in a limited supply of food into her room. She'd learned to embrace hunger, to stretch out how long the food would last. She had prayed for rain, though often felt she may die of thirst before she would be freed. Perhaps the Underworld had heard her prayers. Perhaps that was why The Surgeon had found her and rescued her. And though the Underworld already had her soul, Wendigo wanted to do more, to pay a debt she felt was owed, as well as to give herself more of a life's purpose.
Videnie was barren and rocky, the atmosphere eerie and still. So unlike Eden, which she'd had to go through to get here. There were no tall trees and sweet grass or pretty flowers here. Only stone and cliffs and an endless abyss below. It was there where she came to a halt, looking around her. The terrain was vast, but empty. Her ears twitched. How did she call for him? Would Xerxes truly hear her from here? Would anyone come when she called? "Xerxes." His named was spoken quietly into the void, not yet able to make herself speak much louder than that - shouting still felt very unnatural to her. "I wish to speak with you about becoming a Seer for the Underworld."
