As a little girl, Inferi could never have anticipated the path her life would take or how tremendously things would change one day, never to go back to the "right" shape ever again. Life had seemed perfect, spending just about every waking moment exploring the wonders of the world with her father, sleeping snug against him at night. She had never imagined that there were threats out there. That there could be anything to shatter the idyllic life she enjoyed.
Not until that fateful morning when she had woken to find herself snuggled against someone who was definitely not her dad.
How embarrassing. Even now, remembering that moment made Inferi cringe a little. She was mostly sure that Kasdeya had no idea about it, but it was still embarrassing to think about. Maybe that was why she had been a little more snappy with him afterward, when he woke up. Then again, given his attitude... maybe it had just as much to do with him being a silly boy and nothing to do with the other. At any rate, she'd had quite a while to get to know him. Given they were stuck in the confines of some kind of cell for longer than she cared to remember. Of course they had tried to find a way out. With pauses taken to verbally put him in his place when his nonsense got to be too much. Unfortunately, no way out was to be found for two youngsters such as themselves.
Inferi had been so sure that her father would find her and make everything right again. Every day she had expected he would come galloping to the rescue. Probably after making their captors rue the day they ever thought of capturing her. And Kas too, maybe. But that day had never come.
Instead, it was eventually Kasdeya's parents who had rescued the duo. With no idea where her father was, nowhere else to go... Inferi had ended up staying with Kas and his family.
Despite the fact that she tended to inevitably butt heads with Kas -- at least verbally, though occasionally they did spar -- Inferi could not deny that she was glad to stay with him. Something familiar when the proverbial rug had been pulled out from under her hooves was much appreciated. Even if it was Kas. And she would definitely never admit any such thing to him.
Not without thoroughly trouncing him before and after making such an admission.
Grinning to herself at the thought, Inferi paused in her meandering to take a look at her current surroundings. Though she had been born in a herd, thanks to her mother... she was finding that she did not mind that nomadic lifestyle. There was something to be said about not being tied down to any one place or other. Maybe it helped her feel safe too, in a way, after having been trapped unwillingly in one location as long as she and Kas had been captives. She would rather avoid anything even remotely resembling that experience if it could be helped.
She had been through Nomalanga a time or two before. Mostly in the winter, when other locations were likely to freeze your tail right off. It was not the safest of places to hang out, but she never let a little danger stop her from doing what she wanted. Especially if there was a chance Kas would think her scared. Not gonna happen.
It was quiet... but everywhere tended to be quiet these days. The Afterlife was fighting each other and apparently plenty of mortals had gotten dragged into the mess. Inferi knew nothing about what had led to the war or why or how it was going. All she knew was that she was glad she and Kas and his family had been left out of it thus far. And hopefully that trend could continue.
