Chime
The thought of leaving Shadow Canyon for the world beyond had been very intimidating for a while, but Chime was finally feeling as though she was strong enough to make an attempt. She couldn't remain cooped up in the canyon forever, it was possible her health would never return to what it was, and she refused to give up the improvements she'd made. It was time to get out there again, and Chime had an idea of her first outing.
With Midnight by her side (the bear having made a fantastic companion throughout her sickness), Chime set off for Dark Woods. It felt like a safe choice, especially given the state of the world. So much had happen while she'd been stricken by fever and delusions, she was still sorting out what was real and what was a product of her overheated brain. Her sister was missing, she knew that. It caused an endless twisting of her stomach and fear had a persistent grip on her heart, but she had to march on. The war with the afterlife had worsened, exasperated by mortal involvement and what Chime would describe as "pettiness" of both sides. She really wasn't sure what to think of the war, but she knew that she was sick of the violence.
When mulling over these changes, Chime wondered just what else she was missing. Minor social drama didn't seem so important, but there could have been things that she needed to know. Even more, she had little idea about the state of the other herds in the Neutral Kingdom and that had to change. It was what lead her to the borders of Dark Woods, eager for a visitation with Vojorn. The other mare was more experienced and fierce - Chime was certain that if there was anything to know, Vojorn would have already heard it.
Minding her manners, Chime did not press further than what she knew to be the edge of Dark Woods. There, she awaited a guard's approach and informed him that she was here to speak with Vojorn. Chime was fairing much better, though she was well aware that she still looked like shit. Scrawny, dull-coated, covered in various skin conditions in various stages of healing... she was not exactly the image of a strong leader. Nevertheless, she was not going to give up and stood proudly as she waited for the guard to fetch Vojorn.

Vojorn finally felt like it was safe to say she was better. The good days now outweighed the bad. She woke up in the morning feeling motivated again. The bad dreams had almost gone away completely. It had been over a year now since she'd gotten free - a freedom that she questioned without a doubt now. Her captors had let them go for whatever reason. She had not figured it out, but she would. She needed to gather evidence first. And she finally felt like she was in a place to start doing that. Would her other family members agree? She would have to find that out as well. Of all of them, Avitas seemed to have made the most progress. Vrakali was also making progress ever since the race, which Vojorn was grateful for. She had been worried about her. Her mother was as stoic as ever, but she seemed to be doing better as well. But doing better didn't mean that they were up for taking revenge and discovering who had taken them. And she didn't know if it was a wise idea to go forward with it until all of them were ready. The day was bright and sunny, which further improved Vojorn's mood. When she was told by a guard that there was a visitor for her, she perked up even more. She was getting a fair amount of visitors lately, which she supposed was not a complete surprise given the war that was going on. She headed off in the direction that the guard pointed to. The visitor had stayed near the border, which was much appreciated after the mess with Riddler. Vojorn did not recognize the mare at first, but recognition came to her slowly. Or perhaps it was not necessarily recognition, but the process of elimination. The mare before her was scrawny and covered in what looked like rashes. However, her stance was proud and her eyes clear. Given the recent visit that Vojorn had with her mother, she was reasonably certain that this was Chime, former leader of Shadow Canyon, who had been suffering with a terrible disease for some time now. It must have happened while Vojorn and her family had been taken. Vojorn could not say that she looked well - it was more accurate to say that she looked like she was healing. And that was not a bad thing at all. In fact, Vojorn was excited to see the mare up and about, visiting another herd. Her mouth widened in a grin, full of warmth, her eyes welcoming. "Chime! It's good to see you. Your mother was here several months ago and told me what happened," she said, her voice cheerful, "what can I do for you?"tag ❅ Icy Dragon ✩timeline about 4 months after meeting with nikko's melody "Speech"

Chime
The longer she stood, the more Chime's confidence threatened to waiver, but she forced herself to stay strong. The last thing she wanted was for the other leaders to look down on her or only offer pity - that wasn't something she was good at accepting. She was glad she'd brought Midnight, seeing her friend stand so steadily beside her gave her strength. Fortunately, she was not left waiting for too long. A flash of dark brown and white caught her eye in the leaves, and Vojorn emerged, looking actually very happy to see her. The smile was infectious and Chime broke out in a grin as well, offering a low nicker of greeting. "Chime! It's good to see you. Your mother was here several months ago and told me what happened. What can I do for you?" Vojorn sounded upbeat, something Chime was thankful for. She knew she'd made the right decision in coming to see Vojorn first.
"It's good to see you too," she greeted, taking a few steps forward to stand a more comfortable distance from the other mare. It sounded like she didn't have to explain much if her mother already had, and for that, Chime was grateful. She'd rather not delve into the details of her illness and the grotesque state it'd left her in. There'd been a good amount of time she'd been unable to stand out of her own droppings and that was not something she wished to share. "I've been feeling better! Decided to take a little stroll and Dark Woods is always a pleasure," she explained, offering a wink, "I thought I'd check in and see how you're all fairing. Apparently, I've missed out on a hell of a war... I'm still not sure if I should be relieved about that or not." Her smile faltered some, but she kept a soft expression and voice, "How are you doing, Vojorn? Have you gotten involved in the war?"
