"Speech."
Every muscle in the dark kings body screamed. The blood that flowed from his now half missing ear had slowed to a trickle, the deep cut along his brow had filled with dust and so coagulated the blood into an unsightly mess of clots and jiggly bits of stringy flesh. The eye was slightly traumatized, but he was till able to see. With each step out of the land of Geysir, the king winced, his chest and barrel rose in labored breathing that he tried to suck in. Teeth were gritted so hard, he was sure h would shatter his teeth. Though Selven had some new scars, and bruised flesh, the angel did not go away unscathed. Though, the winged vermin would keep its treasured appendages for now. The dark king groaned quietly, as he felt his shoulder crack. The strain of the push and pull of the fight settling ever deeper into his bones. However, his attention was soon taken by the sound of childish whinnies, and the quick vicious snarl of a woman he knew well. Selven's cold eyes snapped to the worn bodice of Vendettra. Her dark blood eyes were shadowed and slightly sunken, the normal sheen she had to her deeply dapple pelt had become dull and slightly unattractive. She had a yearling at her side, a colt that resembled him far more than the smaller, new child. She was a bright, nearly orange, colored overo. The main culprit of her heritage being that signature blue eye.
Selven chuckled, the sound raspy as he felt pain through his chest. "And here I was thinking I looked like shit." Selven gave a half hearted smirk, as Vendettra scowled. He truly believed he never did see the witch smile. "Come Ven, let me take you to meet my beloved." He said softly as the trio approached. The group then turned, preparing themselves for the long trek back to the Howling Keep. Small introductions and information exchanges keeping them occupied.
The group found a somewhat large cave on their trek as they entered a wooded area at the base of mountains, the path known but somewhat forgotten due to the trauma Selven had sustained. Vendettra had yet to travel to the keep herself so was not fully aware of its location. The night came quickly though, and with them both unfit for a full fight Selven made them all hunker down. Perhaps he was over confident, or not confident enough but this would prove to be a fatal error. In the still of the night as Selven's eyes closed outside of the cavern he was snapped awake by the sudden sound of claws on stone. His heavy crown rose violently as his body curled, jumping to the side as wolfen teeth snapped at him. A deep bellow left his throat as he struck out with his forelimbs, hitting the wolf square in the head. Despite this quick dispatch, he could hear more and knew there were more not far off. Selven's crown swung to look behind him at Vendettra's struggling form. His inky thorn slammed into his tresses as he looked back out into the darkness before hurrying to Vendettra's side. "Come. Quickly, Woman." Selven snorted at the children. Knowing their mother, he knew that they were well versed in her silent commands and would understand his own. They stuck close to him as he ushered them all out. Vendettra was in no shape to fight, hell neither was he. Selven growled to himself as his hark swiveled atop his skull, listening to the howls and the rustling. He could see flashes of them in the tree's their glowing eyes unnaturally menacing in this moment.
"Boy." Selven said sternly as his eyes followed the enclosing predators, "Take your sister, and hide. Run if you must. Find my beloved, she has golden eyes like yours, dark as the night with snow upon her back, and a painted crow. Find her and her alone, do not trust any others. We are at war and you will be a target. Her name - " Selven was cut off by the sound of multiple paws rustling the earth and snarls and barks. Selven whipped his body around, teeth bared at the first wolf that came at his hocks, he snapped at grabbed the beast by the hackles, before flinging it away. However another leaped at his flank and he kicked out, missing. More came then, Vendettra trying to head them off. But it was to no avail. She was drug down first, and as Selven's wide eyes glanced at her another beast sunk its teeth into the flesh of his neck. Claws tore at his already battered hide and he reared up, taking the wolf with him. Jagged daggers flailed knocking the beast from him. "GO, NOW." Selven roared at the children, startling them into action. But there was no time for him to look at them as they ran. He charged over to Vendettra, hooves stomping and striking, teeth snapping at anything within reach. He had never heard such an agonizing sound come from Vendettra as she laid there being assaulted by the wolves. One had her by the throat, and Selven kicked it square in the ribs. its yelps alerting the others that it was time to retreat. Selven snarled and bellowed at the remaining predators, snaking them away from the dappled mare. Selven had managed to catch another, striking it with both front hooves, smashing its spine.
Blood poured from the bastard now, seeped from the claw marks and bites all along his neck, and face and legs. Why there were so many wolves, he could not guess, but he turned back to Vendettra' whom still had not gotten up. His breathing as well as hers was ragged, but he could see by her position, she was done. "Oh Ven.." It was sad to see her succumb to a similar fate as her own beloved. He remembered the dark mare faintly but he knew Ven was reconciling with the fact that she would see the egyptian mare soon. Red eyes rolled back to look at him, that same scowl she always held never softening even as she lain bleeding out. "Kill me already." She said bitterly, between choking. "Take my babies, and kill me." She hissed. Before blinking rapidly, her frail limbs shuffling the dirt, "Do not let them see." Selven did not speak. He merely nodded, before waiting for her eyes to close. He reared above her head before slamming down with force. Despite his ultimate displeasure for the old woman, he had respected her. Killing her in such a way was less than she deserved. He could not take her body back, could do nothing but leave her. He could still hear the faint howling of the wolves. At least now, they would have reason to leave he and the children alone.
"After the battle with the angel, Castiel, Selven finds Vendettra with two foals, his own being the youngest of the pair. Although weakened and exhausted from the fight with the holy being, Selven forces Vendettra to come to The Howling Keep to recover. Along the way they are attacked by an unusually large pack of wolves. Without the aid of Shenzi, his companion, and Vendettra's weakened state from the rough back to back pregnancy and birth, Selven's fight to protect themselves is futile."
