I got fire for a heart I'm not scared of the dark You've never seen it look so easy Ann was scared. Terrified, actually. She could only hope that she was doing the right thing. It was saving her leader's soul, but was it going to damn her own? Within her womb was growing a Cambion, sired by a demon named Acacias. He'd promised to protect her during her pregnancy, and while the child was nursing, but once the child was weaned... the deal was that Acacias would take the foal. He'd promised that he meant the child no harm, and Ann was choosing to believe him because she she not want to think about the alternative. Over the last two months, Acacias had visited her a few times, wanting to know how the pregnancy was going though he did not seem to care about Ann, personally. It was more like a business deal than anything personable. The young grullo mare was cautious whenever he was in Rosemonde. She did not trust him, not really, because trusting a demon seemed like a very, very bad idea. They were deceivers by design, after all, with Xerxes and Teca at the head of their cruelty. And apparently Acacias was some high ranked demon, but he had not explained it much to her. She also had not asked. Her visit to Amaravati today was in hopes of speaking to Luna, the Versai. As High Priestess, she deserved to know the deal that had been struck and what was going on. After all, Ann's foal was going to link Acacias at least loosely to the Sisterhood. Ann had been born and raised in the Highlands. She was a Light and Versai ally wholeheartedly. She'd never thought she would had to make a decision like this, however. To be linked to a demon, and then have to give up her firstborn child to him... it was not going to be easy. Her brothers were not at all happy about the situation. However, Ann was a grown adult and was capable of making her own decisions. Still... that did not make this decision any easier to make. Gulping as she walked through the steep paths of Amaravati, Raggedy Ann tried to focus on where she was putting her hooves instead of her current predicament, at least for now, so that she didn't trip and fall and do something to hurt her unborn foal. It was early enough in the morning that it was not terribly hot, which made the traveling through the mountain paths a little easier. She was hardly even sweating by the time she'd made it to the border of the High Priestess' home. She hoped that Luna was around right now. She really did want to speak with her, though this was going to be a bit of an awkward first meeting... Coming to a halt once the footing had leveled out a bit more, Ann cleared her throat, stood silent for a beat, and then lifted her muzzle and let a polite summons echo out from her lips. Now, all that was left to do was wait. It was another pleasant enough day within Amaravati. Sani had bedded down close to her herd members the night before, and now she greeted the morning with her usual routine. Stretch out all muscles, practice a few battle movements, and set out on patrol. A smile curved her face despite the current state of war as she set out for the borders of her land. She was content when in her lands. Being High Priestess of the Versai was a major responsibility, but it was one that she welcomed. The responsibility and importance of being Versai had strengthened her while she was growing up, and being High Priestess had tempered that strength into what she felt was something more like wisdom.
It was as she approached the initial ascents into the borders of Amaravati that a sound caught her attention. Ears swiveling, silver eyes seeking, Sani saw the form of a grullo mare with a slight pregnant belly standing within her borders. Amaravati didn’t necessarily get a lot of visitors, and it was with wariness that Saniyya approached this stranger. She did not appear hostile – in fact, she looked as though she might be slightly nervous. That was usually a good sign that a horse did not mean harm. Taking courage in that, Sani further narrowed the distance before them and then stopped, greeting the mare with a polite nicker. She did not recognize this horse, but she doubted a pregnant mare would be out and about in a stranger’s lands unless there was a great need.
Hello there. You’ve reached Amaravati and I’m Luna, High Priestess of the Versai Sani introduced, her pseudonym slipping easily from her lips. I’m afraid I don’t recognize you…are you from Lyrarcor or Rosemonde? Is there something I can help you with? The mare seemed comfortable enough in the Highlands to be from here, but uncomfortable enough that Sani knew they did not know each other. She was curious about the mare’s reasons for being here and hoped it wasn’t due to some tragedy or other. There’d been more than enough of those lately.

I got fire for a heart I'm not scared of the dark You've never seen it look so easy She was nervous to meet Luna. She hadn't met the newest High Priestess of the Versai yet and this wasn't under the best circumstances that she was meeting with her, after all. Though it was already warm this morning, Ann felt a chill go through her body, shooting down her spine and down her legs. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes as she waited for the arrival of the Versai leader. She wondered what Luna would say. Ann did not regret her decision to carry a foal for the demon. It had released Ole's soul, once Acacias was sure that the pregnancy had taken, and that was the most important thing in this situation, wasn't it? Keeping the Versai safe? Though did her unborn child not count? Should she not be trying to keep the child safe as well? Her eyes opened and she turned her head to look warily at her left side, wondering when she would start to really show her pregnancy. What would it feel like, to have a foal growing inside of her? How painful would labor be? Oh, she was scared, but Ann had been through pain before and she would get through this just as well. Hearing the steps of another approaching her, Raggedy Ann looked forward again, biting her lip anxiously as she waited and then through the sunlight came the figure of Luna, as had been described to her. Ann blinked at her, giving a kind but uneasy smile as she dipped her head. She hadn't been expecting Luna to be so young, though that was probably because she was still used to Eos and Allocen - now retired - being in charge of things. Hello there. You’ve reached Amaravati and I’m Luna, High Priestess of the Versai After getting confirmation that this was, in fact, Luna, Ann let out a soft little sigh of relief though her anxiety was still heightened. I’m afraid I don’t recognize you…are you from Lyrarcor or Rosemonde? Is there something I can help you with? The grullo mare shifted her weight, taking a calming breath and raising her gaze to meet the eyes of the High Priestess. "Nice to finally meet you, Luna. I am Raggedy Ann, or just Ann. I live in Rosemonde," she stated, her voice shaking just enough to let it be known that she was nervous. She glanced around them, as if expecting Acacias to pop in out of thin air and stop her from letting the High Priestess know. For all she knew, he might be watching her right now. Shuddering at the thought, she said in a much quieter, but urgent, tone, asking, "Do you have a place where we can talk privately? Somewhere that's, I dunno, hidden?" She hated the feeling of being watched. It was something she always felt these days. Like the Underworld was going to creep up on her when she least expected it. The stranger introduced herself as Ann, a resident of Rosemonde. Sani blinked, recognizing that this mare must be one of Seren’s herd members. A warm smile took to her face as she nickered a greeting, especially given how the mare’s voice was shaking as she introduced herself. She was clearly nervous to be here despite being a herd member of the Highlands. What could she have done that would make her so nervous? What news did she have to impart that was so horrifying yet necessitated the attention of the Versai High Priestess? Sani’s silver eyes took in the mare’s form, noticing that she appeared to be pregnant. Maybe Ann was just worried about the impact the war could have on her unborn foal? Both Sani and Xovad had joined the war on Utopia’s side, though Seren had stayed neutral. Maybe she was worried about the implications?
The mare asked urgently if there was a place they could talk privately, somewhere that was more hidden. Sani blinked, uncertain how to respond to the request. She had no guarantee that Ann was actually a herd member of Rosemonde, after all. She’d never met the mare before. How was she to know that this mare could be trusted? This could all be an act to make Sani go somewhere with her and be assaulted in some way. If she was hidden, then no one would ever find her once they got to where they needed to go. Sani considered all of this from a new veil of suspicion, eyeing the mare before her. She wouldn’t put it past the Underworld to send a pregnant mare to do their bidding, the better to lower her guard and make her vulnerable to attack.
I’m sorry, Ann. I don’t know you, so I don’t know if I want to go somewhere with you that is more hidden than this. Please give me a reason to believe that you are who you say – a herd member of Rosemonde. She wondered what evidence the mare could think to provide. What would be something only a true herd member of Rosemonde would know? What is the name of the Sister who lives in Rosemonde? Who knows the path to the river in the middle of that land? This was something only a member of Rosemonde would know. The first question was easy, but the second question was not. Only Seren knew the path, and her herd members would know that. Sani assessed the mare in front of her as she awaited a reply, prepared to fight if need be and if this mare ended up being an imposter.
