It felt like a lifetime since the last time Djinn had taken a moment to say a blessing for her family. To be fair, she didn't want to think about it, she didn't want to revisit the day they'd all fallen at the hands of an unravelling kingdom. Hidden thoughts of distress were pushed down, forced away into the shadowed corners of her heart. She felt she needed to ignore their pain, and avoid the scars their loss produced both on her body, and within it. She was no longer a mess at the mere thought of her mother and father overtaken by a small army. Like nightmares the scene replayed every night, but not to say goodbye, only to haunt her -- safe to say Djinn's survivor's guilt was still strong, but subdued for now, slowly digging a hole into her chest like a hot iron spike.
She shook her dial in order to strengthen her mental defenses. She'd been this way all day it seemed, distracted and otherwise struggling to focus on getting back on her pathway through these chaotic territories. Her own guards had to be up at all times, and she'd gotten better at holding her own, but that didn't mean she was successful every single time. The liver and snow colored doe swished her braided tail aggressively a few times, striking at both sides of her barrel and flanks, a nervous reaction as if she was trying to avoid completely unravelling herself The doe's nares flared, using the stinging salty air to numb the welling tears in her chocolate eyes. Taking a few deep and long breaths she felt herself relax. There was still anger within her, the beast she kept locked away still wanted to come out but still she was refusing it.
"Me dijiste que me mantuviera fuerte, y eso es lo que estoy haciendo... estoy tratando de hacerlo--" "You told me to stay strong, and that's what i'm doing... I'm trying to do it--" Her voice was quiet, glistening eyes full of tears stared at the setting horizon before her, the orange yellow glow it emitted warming her face as she closed her eyes mid-way through quietly speaking. Her voice was broken, clearly she was holding back shaky emotions while trying to say what she wanted to say. She chose to use her fathers language, as if she were trying to reach out to him the most. Djinn lowered her dial, neck elongating towards the sand before she elegantly pushed her shoulders down to follow, beginning to bend one knee into a bow before she stopped herself abruptly.
She froze halfway down into her show of respect, jerking her body up. It was as if she wasn't ready to completely say goodbye to them, too scared to finish her display. The mare backed up a few feet, pale hooves sliding sand back with her, she chose to stay standing, unaware of her surroundings, but no longer looking to say anything else at the shoreline, merely take in the last of the warming rays, and gently wiping her eyes dry on the inside of her front cannons, quick to get rid of the weakness shed expressed. Clearing her throat she felt her jaw clench as she swallowed back everything she'd been feeling trying to escape. She breathed deep and forced herself to relax and keep moving forward.
Turning on her haunches, the sabino doe blanketed in a snowstorm swiveled to face away from the water, only to have an unfamiliar scent reach her nose. Her nares flared, auds swiveling to catch any sounds other than waves crashing gently to shore. The sun had nearly set completely, leaving a pinkish-purple haze to veil over the darkening beach and sky, the water was still glistening like it was beaded with pearls -- beautiful to witness, but currently seen as a backdrop to potentially bad situation.
