"Speech."
Pain rocked through the body of the king. A terrible fire clawed through his throat and his lungs and sand filled his mouth with grit. The bastard king opened his eyes, the world around him only half shown as the full extent of the trauma sustained to his face was known. The ink and ivory colored hellion groaned and winced as he rocked to his side, small rocks and sand stuck into his sweat lathered hide. Selven was not fully aware of where he was, however he had come to know that he was assaulted by a small group of rebels. He did know, that wherever he was, was somewhere hot and miserable and dry, even within the depths of this darkness. There were no scents aside from those of his captors, no scent of an ocean, no scent of rain. Nothing. Selven blinked hard then, letting his faulty gaze adjust once again to the never ending darkness. His right eye still painful as the vision was mostly gone from it. His inky tower flicked. The deafening sound of silence the only thing he could hear. He was unaware of the time, there was no telling if it was morning or night.. but perhaps... just perhaps everyone was sleep or gone. Selven forced his body to rise now, the pain that shifted through his bones making the beast grind his teeth. The rebels had denied him food, and drink. Giving him less than enough to fully function but just enough that he did not die of dehydration.

He knew the rebel group were possibly planning on his demise at this point. Their whispers falling on his torn tower here and there, talking of their chance to take the crown. Their devilish tongues talking of bloodshed and usurpers. They had become sloppy though the longer he was here. Their names slipping freely through the dark and settling in his brain during moments of half consciousness. The dark king had no idea of his visual state now, but he felt tremendously weak. Cracked and bloodied lips picked at his own flesh as he craned his nape around to each side of him. His once fine and large muscles had slowly withered away, his sleekness replaced by grim and rough fur. The bastard king let out he smallest of sounds, yet it echoed loudly. He held his ragged breath, waiting for something... anything to make a sound in return. Yet there was nothing. Selven inhaled as deeply as he could, his ribs feeling bruised as new wounds split open from the action. He had been kept low daily, the fuckers not allowing him a chance to regain his strength. They were all cowards, hiding him in the dark, forcing his body into weakness. He would come for them... he would come for them all.

Selven began to move then, the heft of the bones in his tattered mane and tail uncomfortable against his skin. For once in his life he could feel the full weight of them, and it made this trek slightly more difficult. Selven groaned lightly, his bruised ribs and lungs straining with the movement. His torn nostrils flared as he now seemed to branch off into a tunnel that had a slight incline and the faintest smell tickled his nose. It was a vaguely rotten stench, but there was... something else on it. Selven's tired limbs pushed him faster, a painful limp marring his once beautiful and floaty gait. That can't be... he thought as the resounding wind grew louder but the stench lessened and it was replaced by familiar scents. The dark kings heart thumped painfully in his chest, his clear eye refocusing as a hint of light bounced off the walls and highlighted multicolored patches of ground and... bones. The bastard king did not slow now, old and new wounds alike reopening as he forced himself into an amble, his right shoulder clicking with each limp. "My babies.." The sound was like nothing that had left his maw before. It was dry, and strained, his vocal cords unused in some time. The bastard king looked down the closer he got, the sun light growing brighter as he reached the decayed bodies of his twins. Selven struggled to breathe now, his battered body shaking and trembling as he reached down to touch what was left of his stolen children. His eyes closed tightly, his heart breaking in ways he could of never imagined. The stallion said nothing else, but his mind screamed. His very soul screamed. "Surgeon.. I have never called upon the dead or the gods but I do so now." The beaten beast turned his heavy crown to look out at the opening of the tunnel then, the drop to the golden sands below dangerously close. Did his babies come this way hoping for reprieve? Were they slaughtered then drug here by their killer with the knowledge they would likely never be found? Anger rose in the kings sunken gut. His teeth grinding once more as he faced the sun, the darkness of the tunnels at his back.

"Use me as you will and help me."

The dappled obsidian bastard moved through the abyss unchecked, his presence a familiarity, a comfort. Something that always was and would always be, since his life was abruptly snatched from him. He had come to be one with the shadows, one with the very force of what made the Underworld tick, what made it thrive. He had raised the devil himself from a babe; when neither Grizmar nor Artemisia had bothered with Xerxes, he had. Yet, despite his efforts both mortally and immortally, he was now just a name uttered to foals, keeping them in their resting places out of fear of the grim reaper emerging from the shadows. The Surgeon allowed his claret optics to shift in their sockets, seeking the depth of the shadows as his knives dredged through the dense ash that sat atop the brimstone below. His thoughts dwelled on his daughter, Thomasin, the stories he had heard uttered on the haunted winds of the abyss. Her twins, his grandchildren, had vanished and so to had her King. How long it had been since the disappearance of Selven, he did not know, but he felt her pain, even in death. The obsidian behemoth allowed a small smirk to curl his lips, one of disdain, one of protection that a father felt for his child. She had not called upon him for aid, and he would not intervene lest she did. She was as prideful as she was strong…

As if by some savage twist of fate, a familiar voice called to him, the words almost a whisper. The demon halted, slicing his cords viciously against his hocks as he craned his nape slightly, holding it in a soft arch, as his hellish optics widened a mere fraction. “Surgeon.. I have never called upon the dead or the gods but I do so now.” Perhaps that was where he had gone wrong, had his pride become his downfall? "Use me as you will and help me.” The beast would have sighed had he needed to, yet that commodity had been long robbed from him. Whilst his own interactions with Selven had been minimal, he knew the importance of the fallen king to Thomasin. She had lost so much, if he could return Selven to her… Perhaps that sting could be tempered. Without further deliberation, he slid the thin layers of epithelium over his sanguine pools, the scent of the Underworld fading until he found himself in a large stone tunnel, the stench of death, filth, decay accosted his nares. The demon moved through the shadows, his footfalls silent, a shadow that crept along until the once Dark King came into view.

The hellhound appraised Selven silently, raking his eyes over his gaunt frame, the angle that his hip bones protruded through the skin, the sores where he had been laying in his own filth. His ribs stuck out like a xylophone, wounds were torn across his once magnificent hide, the once smugly handsome face was battered and disfigured. Who had done this to a king? The Surgeon then allowed his eyes to drift to the withered remains of the twins at his feet, their once beautiful hides sunk into the bone where muscle should have been. Where life should have been. Slowly, he stepped around them, his mug lowering to brush over the cadavers. Vengeance filled the demon’s eyes, those rubies set in his skull sparkling viciously as he moved to stand beside Selven. I am here, he spoke, his curious accent flat, the ire within him dispelling any pitch of his words. What do you need?

"Speech."

The fell bastard of a king kept himself as still as he could. Slight tremors tickled at his skin, the muscles in his body slowly beginning to shake from the strain of standing. His once luscious lips that always held a smile were now held in a tight line. His dry tongue wormed uncomfortably in his jaws, searching for even a drop of reprieve. His now mismatched eyes scanned the earth below him, the searing heat rising in waves that licked at his gaunt frame like flames. In the distance he could of sworn the bodies of his babes and his love stood shimmering in the glittering sands, but the king was not mad... not fully... not yet.

I am here, The voice came like a welcomed rain. What do you need? Selven exhaled a shallow and ragged breath, his limbs trembling slightly as he did so before his weight shifted uncomfortably upon each hind dagger. The ink and ivory bastard groaned as he parted his lips and his torn tower shifted to the obsidian ghoul that now stood beside him. "Your strength." Selven's voice was harsh as if he swallowed nothing but gravel and the desert sands, the pain that ripped through his throat silencing his once long and silver tongue. "They killed our children... ambushed me when I was already weak, tried to kill ME." Selven's marred crown turned to face The Surgeon fully now, the deep gashes from claw and hoof scattered wildly all around his throat, eye and bodice. The once burning glacial pools that sat so proudly in his handsome skull were now mismatched as the right one was nothing more than a ice tinted silver orb. He could see only the shadowy outline of Thomasin's father out of the battered eye, making his ghoulish figure even more so. However, his sight remained full in his left eye. And as the icy oracle settled upon the blood hued orbs of the specter Selven forced himself to speak once more. Pure and vile hatred soaking the quiet and strained vocals of the once dark king.

"Yet, I'm not dead.. They could not kill me.. And that... that is their greatest mistake." Selven's nostrils flared as his heart thumped harder, heat rising to his cheeks and towers as his teeth threatened to crack against the pressure of his grinding jaws. His mismatched gaze never leaving the specter that was The Surgeon.

"Get me home."

With that, and without word but with all intent within his dark soul did he relinquish his will to The Surgeon. Would the black ghoul take him and finish the job, stealing the dark kings life? Or would the hell-beast grant him reprieve and use whatever powers a demon of the underworld could possess to help guide him back home through the darkness of the tunnels? Selven knew not what would come next, all he knew is that Thomasin needed him. This was no longer about the attempted murder of a king, this was personal. These rebels... these renegades sought to destroy everything she had built. In turn sought to ruin the very thing this bastard loved, that he lived for.

For that transgression he would kill them all and leave their bodies to nothing as they so wished to do to him.

The swarthy demon surveyed the other half of his daughter's heart, his snagging pools two shimmering rubies set within the abyssal hue of his epithelium. The once magnificent bastard that had greeted him once before was but a sad imitation of that very beast, a ghost of the king. "Your strength.” Came Selven's reply, and the demon snorted, an expulsion of humourless air that had gathered in his lungs was evicted forcefully through his nasal passages. You shall have mine and the full force of the Underworld, The Surgeon uttered his vow, a solemn promise. First the child of Xerxes, slain by the Versai and now… this? Was this their doing as well or was some other heinous entity behind the murder of his grandchildren and the attempted murder of the dark king? The Surgeon appraised the injuries that lined the pelt of the two toned beast for a moment - superficial at best, they had not done enough to eradicate this regent. But the monarch continued on, "They killed our children... ambushed me when I was already weak, tried to kill ME.”

The Surgeon faced him now, drinking in the image of the bastard regent once more as he too faced The Surgeon. "Yet, I'm not dead.. They could not kill me.. And that... that is their greatest mistake.” The Surgeon bobbed his handsome countenance twice, a thoughtful hum rumbling from within his heartless chest. Who is they? Have you a name? There was a pause after his question, his salmon pink tongue rolling across the rears of his incisors thoughtfully. He would see to it personally that these assailants would be brought to justice, that the guillotine would kiss the vertebrae at the base of their skull with such force, it would leave their heads spinning. "Get me home.” The behemoth nodded, turning on his quarters to lead the way to The Keep. Did Selven know how long he had been gone? Did he realise what may very well lay in wait for him when he returned? The Surgeon mulled the idea over before deciding he would accompany the King as far as the guards would allow. Lean on me, my strength is your strength. Whilst he could not possess the regent, he was able to offer him some reprieve, the pain would lessen as long as he stayed near to him. Once he was home, The Surgeon had no doubt Thomasin would tend to him…

You shall have mine and the full force of the Underworld, Selven inhaled harshly at the promise of the demon. The silent acknowledgement between the two heavy in the air. Who is they? Have you a name? The ink and ivory king exhaled a ragged breath, his mutilated facade twisting as his grey matter struggled to find the names of the beasts he had heard. The demon before him let the silence settle once more as the bastard thought. His mis matched towers sunk into his unkempt tresses then before the Surgeon turned upon his haunches, Selven's silver and ice blue orbs settling on the beast as words left him. Lean on me, my strength is your strength. The bastard king groaned in acceptance, his gaze lowering to the remains of his babies before walking forward slowly. The pain within his bodice causing him to grimace and breathe harshly. He came to the side of Surg then, his heavy crown dropping slightly as he turned his face to take the surg in fully in his good eye. "Thank you.." Selven said, his strained voice quiet as he sighed, leaning against the undead. The presence and touch of the demon soothed his bones and loosed his throat just enough to make the pain more bearable and strengthen his stride. "I must come back for my children's remains when my strength returns. They must rest in our home." Selven said in breathy pauses.

A name came to mind then, as the pair trudged through the tunnel, the warmth of the opening in the cliffside slowly giving way to cool dampness once again. "----... ----....----" The names were given now. His dysregulated mind now able to focus solely on getting home. The surgeon would commit these callings to his own memory he was sure, and they would be hunted till the end of their days.
