yvette i was born of god's spite, i reflect my own light i was never yours to create (tw: childbirth)It was a curious act, constructing a tale of living in a herd in the Light lands during the duration of her pregnancy to reassure Valfrid that she had a decent place to stay for it. With the war looming, she had decided that living among the Versai would be far more dangerous for her than some place in the Light Kingdom. Better for her to remain some unknown face than someone that the Underworld could use against Valfrid, yes? She'd even gone to lengths to persuade one of Nemesis' herd members to play the part of midwife in case anything went wrong to further reassure the Versai stallion. Her last birth had been "stillborn" after all. And when the time was near, she promised to send off a messenger to Valfrid so he could be present for the birth. Perhaps it was foolish of her to allow him to see his children when she fully intended on keeping him away from them, but it was a necessary risk for her to take. Soon the charade would be up. Soon she would reveal everything to Valfrid. She was so excited at the prospect of seeing his face and witnessing his pain. It would be so delicious. Even though her original plan of infecting him with the Underworld disease had not panned out, this would be just as sweet. The idea of mortals having an immunity to her disease was a concern to her and one that she wanted more information about. Not many mortals had it, given he was the first one she had ever encountered in her many experiments, but it was something she had to keep in mind for the future. When the familiar pains of labor started, Yvette immediately sent out her messenger to the Highlands and requested for Valfrid to meet her in Femiet Beach. Her claim was that she was taking a walk in the Free lands when the pains started so she did not have to somehow weasel her way into the Light Kingdom - a place that she did not want to give birth in. In reality, she would now have to travel from Toxin Raj to Femiet Beach to keep up her own ruse. She did not mind. She gritted her teeth and did it, traveling through Caerali, having to pause every so often as the contractions gripped her. Fortunately, she was not alone. She had brought her midwife mare and also enlisted the help of two more guards that could be spared from the borders for a few hours. She had to protect herself from both the unknown factors of the Free lands and also from Valfrid himself should he choose violence at the revelations. He was a decent fighter for a Versai and she would not take any risks by daring to underestimate him. She had gotten lessons from him firsthand. He knew what he was doing and she'd be damned if he hurt herself or her children. In addition to those three, she had also brought Murmur with her. Her daughter had reached her second year and was eager to prove herself. She did not outwardly show it, but Yvette knew her daughter's expressions well and could tell she was bursting at the seams. She would also stand guard from a distance, perhaps another revelation to throw in Valfrid's face. Her child had survived and her child was the daughter of Xerxes, a stallion that Valfrid was not particularly fond of, she had to imagine, being Lord of the Underworld and all. The journey was difficult but she eventually made it to their usual gathering spot for training. By this time, she was coated in sweat and had to stop herself from grinding her teeth to dust. Her body seemed to have learned from the last experience and was speeding up the process for her. Which was appreciated. At this rate, she would give birth before Valfrid arrived. Perhaps that was best, however. Giving birth was when she would be most vulnerable to any attacks from him, in case he somehow suspected something before she was done. As if by some sense of self-awareness, her body signaled that it was time for her to lay down and she obeyed, panting. Why was it so hot? The midwife mare hovered near her, her brow creased. The mare was not truly a healer, but had given birth before, so she would be of some use. The two guards and Murmur remained farther away, talking amongst themselves. Watching them, Yvette was struck by how much her daughter stood out. She would not deny that she was slightly disappointed that her daughter would not be able to follow in her footsteps as a spy, but she still had plenty of other uses. She towered over everyone else in the Free lands. At only two years old, she dwarfed her mother by four hands. Like father, like daughter, Yvette thought, smiling, though it quickly devolved into a grimace of pain. It was time. Keeping in rhythm with the contractions, Yvette pushed until she thought her head might explode from the heat. The pressure eased and she glanced down to see the foal stirring. It was a bay with black stripes, bright orange eyes. Just as she was about to clean it, she realized that the labor pains had not eased off and in fact, were increasing. Twins? The thought made her giggle. She had wondered, given how big she had gotten. Twins, just like herself and Nemesis. Twins, to further torment Valfrid. Beautiful. She laid back down and repeated the process, pushing until she felt the pressure ease and the pain begin to fade. When she glanced down this time she noted a chestnut paint. Two healthy foals, by the looks of it. Both were struggling to stand. Yvette waited a few more seconds, just to make sure it was done before getting up and tending to the foals. Cleaning them both up, she noted that the chestnut and white was a filly. Beautifully colored. The other child, however, appeared to have both sets of organs. She could not recall seeing that before, but thought nothing further of it. A unique child for sure. As the child grew, she'd find out which gender they preferred. It seemed both of them were perfectly healthy and that was the most important thing for her. Now that both were standing, they came to nurse and she felt a glimmer of pride. Now it was time for the second part of the grand event. Her eyes scoped out the Free lands, looking for her victim. Where was Valfrid? profiletag fleabittengray with Valfrid and Alecto timeline murmur is 2 years old, the war is nearly wrapped up notes if i need to change anything let me know <3 i figured they would have met and discussed some things in between so he's aware of her pregnancy lyrics xenogenesis by 3TEETH "Speech"art by amber18db

And let me crawl inside your veins I'll build a wall, give you a ball and chain It's not like me to be so mean
He was going to be a father. He hadn't quite processed that yet, having kept himself distracted with everything involved with the war, but when a messenger appeared in the Highlands, letting him know that Carmilla was requesting his presence in Femiet Beach, it struck him suddenly. He froze, red eyes going wide as he just stared at the messenger, the shock of it nearly making him fall over, legs feeling weak. It was happening. The foal was being born. Oh, fuck, what did he do? Lurching forward in a sudden mad dash out of Lyrarcor, frantic and worried, Xovad even forgot to thank the messenger for even letting him know about the situation. All he could think about was getting to Carmilla, making sure she was okay, making sure their baby was okay. He was nervous. He'd never been a father before. This was a whole new responsibility, a whole new world opening up before him. What was going to happen now? Was he supposed to take Carmilla as a mate, because he'd had a baby with her willingly? Was that how this thing worked? His gut twisted uneasily at the thought, thinking of Nixi, the Light Queen, and his love he had for her. Sure, Carmilla was pretty and sweet and he liked spending time with her, but Nixi... he loved her. Surely there was a difference? Would things be easier, though, if he just picked Carmilla? Convinced her to come live with him in the Highlands? She was improving with fighting, and he was sure his mother would like her, would approve of her...
But that was all because he was ignoring the warning flashing before his very eyes. How Carmilla so closely resembled Nemesis, the Helkaer. He wasn't picking up on all the holes in her story - though in his defense, she was a good liar. Xovad had been through so much already that he was clinging to this one thing, this one good thing. He was going to be a father. Even if that fact scared the hell out of him, the Versai Druid was going to be a good dad. He wasn't going to mess this up. He was ready for this! He had to be. Still, his heart was hammering as he neared Femiet Beach. It had taken longer to get here than it usually would for him, the Curse making him slower, but he pushed through the pain and the desire to rest, to take a moment to breathe, to try and get to Carmilla as quickly as he possibly could.
Frantically, his eyes scanned the sandy shore until he spotted her in the distance. She was rising to her feet, and approaching the two little bundles of joy. Hold on. Pause. Two?! His galloping stride faltered as the realization of Carmilla and him having twins hit him like a kick to the chest, stumbling and having to slow his pace so that he didn't faceplant into the sand. Holy shit she'd had twins? He finally slowed to a walk, sides heaving as he struggled to catch his breath, approaching Carmilla cautiously. He knew she'd wanted him here, but he also knew sometimes the rush of hormones from pregnancy and labor could make a woman lash out. "Carmilla," he called out, giving a small smile. Slowly his eyes looked down at the two foals, now standing and trying to nurse. Two foals. Two kids. Twins. "How are you feeling? Are you alright? Anything I can do?"

yvette i was born of god's spite, i reflect my own light i was never yours to create She debated over names while she waited for Valfrid to show up. It was something she had done before Murmur's birth as well. It was a decent enough task to occupy her time while she waited. If she didn't keep her mind busy with something, she might explode. She pursed her lips. Alecto was a name that she'd taken a liking to. A nice gender neutral name. She preferred it that way, if she was honest. It made everything easier. Alecto and... perhaps Nile? Yes, that would do nicely. But which name for which child? Alecto will be the first child to stop nursing, she decided. Only moments after she silently made her decision did the paint filly take a break from the milk to peer at someone walking toward them. Alecto you are. And that means the bay child is Nile. Her lips curled in a satisfied smirk. When she noticed that it was Valfrid walking toward them, she almost forced herself to change the smirk to a smile - oh, old habits died hard! - but there was no need that anymore. The ruse was up. She could be who she wanted to be now. Her children were healthy and their father would have no say in their lives. They would be trained by the Helkaer's best to wreck havoc on the world and claim their rightful place as the superior species. Valfrid may be immune to the cambion disease, but his children were still cambions. She had taken note of that already. The filly's was on her belly and the other child's was on their tongue. Both good places that were easy enough to conceal. The two of them were a bit flashy, but not as much as Murmur. Valfrid was within earshot now and Yvette met his gaze with her typical gleeful expression - a cheerful countenance with barely concealed malice. He would immediately know that something was off. 'Carmilla,' he called out to her with his own smile. His gaze went to the twins. 'How are you feeling? Are you alright? Anything I can do?' he asked her. "I'm feeling wonderful, Valfrid," she said to him, her eyes twinkling. Her voice was still Carmilla's, but her expression was painfully Yvette's. Let him slowly see the signs before he realized the full picture. The build up would be delicious. "My twins are beautiful and healthy. I've picked out names for them already! I've been pondering over them for months. Making the final decision helps keep you occupied during labor. Definitely helped me during my first one, though she turned out quite opposite to her name, if I'm being honest," she said, her voice still in Carmilla's style. A number of warning bells should be ringing in Valfrid's head by now, if he was being attentive. Though it was all true. Murmur was the name of a demon yes, but its other meaning as a form of muffled speech was quite opposite to her daughter's intimidating appearance. Yvette watched him intently, waiting for his expression to break, waiting for the slightest sign that he was getting suspicious. She had left her cambion mark uncovered as well, if he was observant enough to see it on her. In fact, her entire appearance was far more put together than Carmilla ever was, even after she'd recovered from losing her baby. Other than the sweat stains from labor, Yvette's body was pristine, her hair free of debris and tangles. Her pose was different, exuding confidence. He was bound to notice something. He was a smart Versai boy, wasn't he? She just had to wait and see his reaction. And let me crawl inside your veins I'll build a wall, give you a ball and chain It's not like me to be so mean
He knew as soon as Carmilla looked in his direction that something was off. It made his ears twitch back slightly, but his smile did not falter as his eyes glanced between the twins and then to Carmilla. She looked different. No longer disheveled with tangled mane and tail. She had some lingering grime from labor clinging to her, but otherwise, she looked pristine. Confident. And as his eyes met the eyes of the woman he had called friend for so long, another word came to mind. She looked absolutely unhinged. He was tempted to take a step back away from her, but he didn't, watching her with a now suspicious look in his eyes. Something was wrong. Was this a sort of... postpartum hysteria? Was Carmilla safe? Were the kids safe? Should he try to contact Duramus or something? Feeling vastly unsure of himself, Xovad shuffled his hooves in the sand, ears perking forward when Carmilla finally spoke.
"I'm feeling wonderful, Valfrid," There was a twinkle in her eye and she sounded like her old self but as the same time... not like herself. Lost as to what to do, Xovad merely cleared his throat and muttered. "Oh, uh, good. That's good." But he could not shake the feeling that something was wrong. Very, very wrong. "My twins are beautiful and healthy. I've picked out names for them already! I've been pondering over them for months. Making the final decision helps keep you occupied during labor. Definitely helped me during my first one, though she turned out quite opposite to her name, if I'm being honest," Huh? His eyes squinted slightly, troubled and puzzled by her words, because... hadn't her foal died? What the hell was going on here?
Taking a couple of hesitant steps toward Carmilla, wanting to get a closer look at the two foals, he could not shake the feeling that he was in danger right now. Alarm bells were going off inside his head. But how could that be? Carmilla was his friend! The mother of his children! She had to know that he meant her and the kids no harm... right? "Carmilla... are you sure you're okay?" he asked her gently, ignoring the blaring instinct within him to run, to flee the scene, because these were his kids and he had to make sure they were safe. "I know labor can be a lot for mares, my mom told me. Do you need me to get the Vigilum or something? Maybe... maybe you got a little too, I dunno, stressed?" Probably not the best thing to say to a mare in a moment like this, but, Xovad was stumped. "You're acting... different."

yvette i was born of god's spite, i reflect my own light i was never yours to create It was wonderful, watching Valfrid's expression falter, if only a little. His ears pinned back and his eyes narrowed with the slightest suspicion, though the smile never left his face. Oh, he was still clinging to hope, wasn't he? Clinging to the image he had of Carmilla, his friend. They had known each other about two years, hadn't they? Perhaps longer than that. Yvette had played the long game and it had paid off. Two children with Versai and Helkaer blood, cambion marked, and ripe for training. Her eyes flickered toward the spot where the two guards and Murmur were standing and she gave a subtle flick of her tail to signal them to start coming closer. The grand finale was approaching and she did not want to risk any harm to her children. Valfrid being the good soul that he was would probably try to take them away from her. Strong as she was even through her pregnancy, Yvette had still only given birth mere moments ago. She would not risk her children because she was too prideful to have a backup plan. Besides, it would also add further salt to Valfrid's wounds to see Helkaer guards and the daughter she had with Xerxes that was supposed to be dead. Two birds, one stone. 'Oh, uh, good. That's good,' he said to her and she normally would have stopped the giggle from escaping. This time, she did not. She let it flow freely. 'Carmilla... are you sure you're okay?' he asked her. Oh, this should be good. 'I know labor can be a lot for mares, my mom told me. Do you need me to get the Vigilum or something? Maybe... maybe you got a little too, I dunno, stressed?' The Vigilum?! This time she let out a laugh. The Vigilum would take one look at her and tell him to run far away. She would be a beacon to a walking lie detector. 'You're acting... different.' She quirked a brow, her expression amused. "Oh sweet, sweet Valfrid! Such a good boy," she said, Carmilla's voice completely dissolving into Yvette's typical cadence. "You're right. I am actually acting like myself." She could see the two guards and Murmur steadily coming closer, talking among themselves as they went, but making toward Yvette. Perhaps it was time for Valfrid to meet her daughter, the daughter who lived. "I do have to give you credit. You are what the Versai are supposed to be. A good fighter, a believer in morals, and even now you're still clinging onto hope," she continued, grinning at him as the two guards flanked her on either side. Nile gave a small start and then sniffed up at the newcomers, disturbed from their nursing. Then they yawned, revealing the black biohazard symbol imprinted on their tongue. Yvette's gaze softened slightly as she looked down at Nile. A perfect place to conceal such a marking. Perhaps she could make a spy of them yet. When she looked back up, the hulking form of her firstborn was beside her, the guard having stepped away to give them room. Murmur was a tank among toys as she gazed down upon them, her violet gaze a mirror image of Yvette's own. That, however, was the only thing she and Yvette shared in common as far as appearance. The rest, her daughter had all taken from Xerxes. Her build, her height, her gray color, and the black mark that encased her jaw. If Valfrid had spent any amount of time with the Lord of the Underworld, he would recognize it immediately. "It's time you met my firstborn. Her name is Murmur. It doesn't entirely suit her, you see?" she said, passing her tongue over her lips like a cat savoring its first bite of prey. "And my name is not Carmilla," she continued on, her eyes gleaming with malice, her expression more serious and deadly than it had ever been. In this moment she started embodying more of Nemesis' side of things, though she was no less practiced than her sister. If Valfrid decided to fight back, he would see just how vicious she could be. profiletag fleabittengray timeline murmur is 2 years old, the war is nearly wrapped up notes shivers lyrics xenogenesis by 3TEETH "Speech"art by amber18db

And let me crawl inside your veins I'll build a wall, give you a ball and chain It's not like me to be so mean
TW: langauge
He felt the world caving in around him. He had been looking forward to this day, meeting his firstborn child - children, as it turned out - and now... now it was turning into a nightmare. Though honestly what part of his life wasn't a fucking nightmare anymore? His body was tense, though there was no hostility in the red-eyed brute. A fight here and now could bring harm to the children and he refused to hurt them. They were blood of his blood. Even if they were not, Xovad would never stoop so low as to hurt a child. Kids were the epitome of innocence and as he cautiously stood there, feeling a sense of overwhelming dread, he couldn't help but still feel a bit of awe at the sight of the twins. They were beautiful. The chestnut and white one, a filly, was too busy nursing to really look at anything around her. Such sweet innocence. How long would that last?
Carmilla laughed at him and Xovad felt his heart drop all the more. Carmilla had never sounded like that before. He swallowed dryly, working to keep his breaths even. That was much easier said than done, as it turned out. "Oh sweet, sweet Valfrid! Such a good boy," He got the feeling she was mocking him and his ears pinned, angry, but not making a move to attack. He dared not harm the children. "You're right. I am actually acting like myself." Warily, his gaze shifted from Carmilla to the other equines that were walking closer, feeling his heart starting to race in his chest. "Huh?" He was so confused, frowning deeply as his gaze slid back over to Carmilla - or who he thought was Carmilla.
"I do have to give you credit. You are what the Versai are supposed to be. A good fighter, a believer in morals, and even now you're still clinging onto hope," Two of the equines flanked Carmilla, one on each side, and Xovad felt his confusion turning to rage. A rage that simmered for a moment as one of the children startled slightly. It tugged at Xovad's heart. He wanted to scream. "What the fuck is going on?" he finally spat out, ears now pinned flat, tight against his skull.
And then there was another mare, Xovad's fiery gaze looking at her, taking her in - and grinding his teeth in anger when he recognized her as kin to Xerxes by the marking upon her jaw, same as the Lord's. "It's time you met my firstborn. Her name is Murmur. It doesn't entirely suit her, you see?" Her firstborn. The very same firstborn that was supposed to be dead. "And my name is not Carmilla," His world was crumbling. All those months of training, of getting to know someone who didn't actually exist. Xovad snorted sharply, stomping a hoof into the earth. "You.. you lied to me. You used me. You're..." His sentence cut off short, staring at her, and that's when it all clicked. "You're fucking Helkaer, aren't you?"

yvette i was born of god's spite, i reflect my own light i was never yours to create She could almost feel his confusion, seeping from him like a tangible object. His ears pinned back further against his skull and he looked warily between Yvette and the two guards that flanked her. 'Huh?' he stammered out and she wondered what his next move would be. Would he continue to cling to hope or would he embrace the truth that stared him in the face? Would he run, cry, attack, scream? She was rabid for his reaction, barely keeping herself under control with the weight of her excitement. She lived for this, to witness his pain and rage. Let him feel his emotions. Let him cry. Let him scream. Let him rage. She welcomed all of his feelings with gusto. She would take joy just by witnessing his reactions. 'What the fuck is going on?' he spat out, his ears fully pinned now, his rage beginning to take hold. She didn't answer - she merely grinned at him in reply, waiting for him to figure it out himself. He was a smart boy. She had faith that he would see the truth now that hope was finally out of the way. The appearance of Murmur seemed to finally solidify everything for him. He stomped a hoof on the ground. 'You.. you lied to me. You used me. You're...' he paused, as if a realization had dawned on him. 'You're fucking Helkaer, aren't you?' She laughed, the sound saturated with joy. Only the birth of her twins had made her happier so far today. "Yes," she confirmed for him, her eyes glinting maliciously, "but that is not all I am. I am Yvette, twin sister to Nemesis, the Helkaer Commander, and a cambion daughter of the Underworld." Her smile lingered for a few seconds before her face dissolved into a thoughtful expression. "I had not originally planned to carry a child. I planned to poison you instead with my disease. The fact that you are immune is a concern, but also valuable information. And I cannot say that I regret carrying these children," she eyed the two of them, genuine affection in her gaze for the briefest of moments. "They will become worthy additions to the army. Powerful, unique, superior in all ways to mere mortals. They will lead extraordinary lives. You should be proud of them and excited for their potential," she continued on, genuine in her words, but also all too aware of the salt she was throwing into his fresh wounds. He would have no part of Nile or Alecto's lives. They were hers and hers alone and they would serve the Underworld and the Helkaer. With the reveal over with, Yvette had nothing more to say. Her manipulation of Valfrid was over. All that was left was to return home and start the next chapter, which was to raise her two children as she had raised Murmur. She didn't doubt that she would see Valfrid again. He might try to take the children from her or to seek revenge on her and the Helkaer for what she had done. She welcomed the challenge. "I suspect this will not be the last time that we see each other. I welcome the challenge. Goodbye, Valfrid," she said, giving him one last grin - this time from Carmilla, a sweet, shy, and gentle smile, enough to rip out the heartstrings, if he had any further to spare. With that said, she signaled to her guards and to Murmur to start the trek back to Toxin Raj. This would be a long journey with two newborns and an angry donor potentially following after them. profiletag fleabittengray timeline murmur is 2 years old, the war is nearly wrapped up notes ouch lyrics xenogenesis by 3TEETH "Speech"art by amber18db

And let me crawl inside your veins I'll build a wall, give you a ball and chain It's not like me to be so mean
TW: none
His heart was shattered. How could he have been so stupid, so blind? He blinked away tears that threatened to gather in the corners of his eyes, stomping a hoof and letting out a harsh snort. He wished he could fling himself at this woman, this liar, and give her a couple scars to remember him by - but she had children to nurse, his children, and Xovad could not bring himself to attack her, nor the two thank guarded her, regardless of his rage at the situation. All he could do was stand there, dumfounded, jaw clenched and eyes glistening with anger and sorrow. He felt like a complete and utter failure. How had he been so blind? Blinded by hope, by his own wants and desires, by the uncertain futures that life held. I can't let the children go with her, he thought, but the thought was nothing more than that. It was not put into action because he knew, realistically, until the foals were at least weaned, they were better off with their mother. There were no nurse mares in Lyrarcor and he would force the foals to wean so early. It was dangerous to their health. Becoming a parent meant thinking about more than just yourself, after all.
Her laughter was grating on his nerves, the sound of her outright joy at his heartbreak. He mourned the loss of Carmilla, who had never existed after all, and now was confronted with the bitch's true nature. "Yes," Though it was the answer he expected, it still hit him like a kick to the chest and he took a half-step backward, ears pinned so tightly to his skull it was difficult to distinguish them from his flaxen locks. "but that is not all I am. I am Yvette, twin sister to Nemesis, the Helkaer Commander, and a cambion daughter of the Underworld." Twin sister to Nemesis? Now Xovad truly felt blind. He could see the similarities between them now, but he had been too hopeful to see them before. He closed his eyes, letting out a slow exhale to calm himself.
"You and your sister are going to pay for all you've done to my family," he said, cold and angry. He wondered if Yvette and Nemesis had planned this together, or separately. "I had not originally planned to carry a child. I planned to poison you instead with my disease. The fact that you are immune is a concern, but also valuable information. And I cannot say that I regret carrying these children," Yvette looked at the twins and Xovad was honestly relieved to see the fondness in her eyes, her expression not cruel toward them, but somehow loving. "They will become worthy additions to the army. Powerful, unique, superior in all ways to mere mortals. They will lead extraordinary lives. You should be proud of them and excited for their potential," She had high hopes for the twins. Xovad gulped, swallowing down the lump that had formed in his throat.
"If they ever need or want it, they will have a home in the Highlands open to them. Should they ever decide not to fight for darkness and chaos, Lyrarcor would readily accept them. Please, Car- Yvette. Let them know that. Let them at least know they have a father who cares. Every child deserves that." And though the rage was still there, his vocals had quieted - defeated, unwilling to retaliate with two innocent souls present. "I suspect this will not be the last time that we see each other. I welcome the challenge. Goodbye, Valfrid," One of the twins was looking at him, head cocked, and green eyes studying him innocently, before she was being ushered away by her mother and the guards. Xovad wanted to scream. "Keep them safe, Yvette!" he called after the mare, and there was a faint warning to his tone. "Keep them safe or I swear to the gods you'll regret it."
Feeling his eyes welling up with tears yet again, Xovad stared after the retreating Helkaer group for a moment, feeling his heart shattering all the more. He felt familiar panic welling up inside of him and he shook himself, turned back the way he'd traveled, and started on his way back home with the thought of those two foals weighing heavily upon him.
