Judging A breakdown of the judging form Please read this post for information on what is expected of the judges when it comes to assessing battle posts. This post may also give the roleplayers who are battling insight into what the judges are looking for, and a guideline of how to improve their battle posts.
All areas of the judging form will be judged out of a score of 5, for a total score being out of 20. For every minor error that a judge finds, they will dock 0.5 points. For larger errors, 1 full point will be docked. Any time that points are docked, judges must make comments in regards to why there were points lost.
the judging form Self explanatory - please just confirm the roleplayer and character involved.
Cohesiveness is the area that takes into account the general flow and "readability" of the post. It is in this area that variables such as spelling and grammar are judged. Spelling and grammar mistakes will not be docked on an individual basis. However, if mistakes are happening frequently and are affecting the overall flow of the post and make it difficult to read, then points may be removed.
Please note that various styles are accepted and will not be docked. This includes wolf-speak, the use of first versus third person, etc. However, writing styles that are not grammatically correct will still be docked points. For example, transitioning between past and present tense in the same sentence when describing actions.
In addition, commonly used terms on Wild Equines, even if not grammatically correct, will not be docked marks because people use them differently. This includes terms like "subherds", "sub-herds", "sub herds" and "freelands", "Free Lands", "Free lands" etc. However, please remember that things like canon group names must still be capitalized, as they are in fact titles.
Realism takes into account how realistic the attacks and dodges are. For example, a realistic attack would include biting, kicking, slamming into one another, etc. Take the time to consider what is realistic for horses to do. Eg. Launching themselves straight up into a rear immediately following having dropped to their knees would not be something that a horse would do in real life.
Realism is also the area where power-playing and god-moding are assessed. Remember that these are not allowed, and to adjust your posts accordingly to ensure that you are not making any kind of assumption in what your character is actually doing to the other character, unless it has been addressed by the opposing roleplayer in a prior post.
Movement takes into account how well the horse moves and attacks compared to its opponent. Is one horse just aiming for whatever it can grab on the body of their opponent? Is one actually aiming for vital spots that would severely damage or hinder their opponent's movements? Movement can also include how the characters are moving in their surroundings. Are they battling on flat, dry ground which leaves no disadvantage for their motion? Are they battling in a storm, where the terrain has become slippery and footing a little bit more difficult to manage? Points here will be given to roleplayers who take the time to recognize such environments and write their characters accordingly. Another good way to gain points is to consider the size of your horse in comparison to their opponent. For example, a smaller, leaner Arabian could likely move with more agility than a massive Shire.
Completion of the form is the section that ensures the battle form has been filled out at the beginning of every single battle post. Common errors in battles include roleplayers forgetting to fill out the battle form in posts. Points are docked here because this portion of the form needs to be filled out to ensure that the injuries characters have received are being recognized and accounted for. For example, if in the second post the character's health had been 80%, and then their opponent landed a bite, in their third post their health needs to reflect this. In addition, a comment needs to be left that explains how severe the effective attack was, and what lingering effects if might have left. Eg. 70% - Character was bitten on the neck. The bite was able to sink into the muscle, which will cause a great deal of pain and bruising, limiting any further movement of the head going on into battle and over the next several months.
