I was finally back to doing what I do best - hunting for information. I had been learning a lot about the war, but that wasn't my only goal. No, I had to remember my deal with Charm all that time ago. I was a man of my word, and I was to help him find someone - Sephenia. Not only locate where she was hiding, but to find out who had helped her escape from The Whore House. It was an interesting task, and we all know how I like solving puzzles. I only had a description to go off of, but that was enough for me. Even though I had managed to find a home on Grim Isle, I still wanted to hold up my end of the bargain with the powerful Shire. It wouldn't do me any good to disrespect him like that, and I would likely end up in his dungeons myself. While I wasn't entirely sure where to start, I did have some... friends in other kingdoms. Even if they didn't know Sephenia personally, they might know who I could ask or who would have had the balls to break her out. I had already sought out Nyko, but deep down I was too concerned about his safety to try and rope him into my plans. That was a disturbing thought - but one that I chose to ignore for the time being. I didn't have time for self reflection. I thought back to that awkward day in the spring where I had forced myself to meet new people, and remembered a quiet stallion who I thought might be able to help me. Leifr had never told me where exactly he lived, I had started quietly asking around and hunting along the borders of various lands to see if I could scent him. While it was a bit dangerous for a Dark to be lingering during the time of war, I didn't care if I roused suspicion. Today was no different as I made my way through the edges of the Neutral Kingdom. I avoided the capital, not particularly in the mood to become a prisoner. So far, two of the lands hadn't provided me with answers. Now, it was early in the afternoon and the heat had steadily gotten worse. I needed shelter, and my silver eyes had noticed a shadowy forest not far from a ravine that I had skirted past. I paused at the edge, hearing the faint, inviting sounds of a river. My head dipped to sniff the boundary, and even though it lacked Leifr's scent, I slowly weaved through the trees to cool off for a few moments. My intent was to quickly rinse in the slow moving water and continue on my hunt. It took me longer than I would have liked, my harks turned slightly backward to listen to anyone approaching. I swore that as I got closer to the water, the sounds of any cheerful wildlife had disappeared. Instead, all I could hear was shuffling in the undergrowth. I could catch the sight of gleaming eyes, but nothing else to indicate what might be hiding. I wasn't afraid, merely curious as I settled along the gravelly edge to take a long, long drink of the borderline frigid waters. SpeechTAG Indi with Leifr, as well as any other herd members! vojorn The world had spun on while she had been gone. Half a year lost to the torment of the violet-eyed mare. If Vojorn thought about it for too long, she got so angry she wanted to rip trees from their roots. Instead, she contented herself with training and patrolling, getting back into the rhythm. Her conversation with Avinash had been productive, but concerning. The Neutral Queen had disappeared. Utopia and the Underworld were at war. It was just as well that they'd just gotten a guardian angel in that respect. Vojorn had not wanted to get more nephilim in the herd so soon, but it might be necessary if the fight was going to spill into the mortal plane. Despite the help Utopia had provided over the years to Dark Woods (as well as the times that they'd failed them), Vojorn wanted no part of this war. She was not part of the Afterlife. She was mortal and she had mortal concerns. She would not have herself or anyone else in the herd getting involved. They could die or suffer permanent injuries. The Afterlifers could not. She could only hope her herd would remain as uninvolved as possible for as long as possible. If they got caught in the crossfire... well, she supposed that was what her guardian angel was for, right? When she spotted the intruder, the adrenaline that pumped through her body nearly knocked her breathless. The unfamiliar pelt of a stallion standing by the river... drinking from it, washing in it. Vojorn's entire body tensed with anger at the arrogance of it. However, she made herself wait for several moments, observing him, taking him in. What did he look like? Was he more familiar now that she was focusing on him? She discovered he was not. She had never seen him before. He was shorter than her by almost two hands. Dunskin. No visible scars to indicate fighting experience. With her assessment complete, Vojorn made her way toward him, her body language visibly hostile and her eyes blazing. Had he waited at the border, she would have been far more cordial. But he'd broken boundaries and decided to use her river as his personal spa. Perhaps if this went sideways, she'd be able to utilize all the training she'd done and show him what had made her a gladiator champion. "Enjoying yourself?" she said, her words dripping with sarcasm as soon as she was within earshot. "State your business here in Dark Woods," she said, a demand, not a question. She had no tolerance for any intruders whatsoever who crossed the boundary. Not after what she had been through. If he had been with the ones who'd taken her, she figured he would have been far more subtle about his activities, but an intruder was an intruder. And she would keep her guard up regardless. She would never be taken again. tag illɘgal Indi anyone else that wants to join in the fun timeline after meeting with avinash notes vojorn says fite me

x JAZMIN The summer sun shone down on Dark Woods. The atmosphere was hot and humid, sticky, but bright and with no hint of incoming storms like there had been the last few days. She hoped this meant there was going to be better weather coming to Wild Equines. It was about mid-summer, so there were still several weeks left of heat and humidity but that also meant plenty of sunshine and warm days to spend basking in the sun. Jazmin was patrolling one of the borders of Dark Woods now, staying in as much shade as she could so that she didn't burn up in the sun. She was along the furtherest border, making her way back toward the more occupied areas of her home. She always preferred to patrol this region, which she felt tended to be overlooked because it wasn't "used" as much as, say, the river. Though she was going to head to the river now, since she very much needed a drink after her patrolling. Her throat felt dry and her flanks were darkened and dampened with sweat. She could see the river appearing on the horizon now and she decided to push herself into a trot. A trot that quickly became a much faster pace when she realized that the two figures standing near the river were suspicious. Or, at least, one of them was. One figure she easily recognized as Vojorn, but the other equine who was in the river itself... she didn't recognize them. Fearing for the safety of the herd - they had been through enough hardships recently, damn it all! - she hurried to join Vojorn's side. As she neared the leader, she slowed to a trot again, then a walk, coming to a smooth halt beside her leader. Standing silent and observant, the Regent of Dark Woods eyed the unfamiliar stallion on their turf. Who was he, what did he want, why was he here? So many questions, and she was not going to leave until they had an answer to all their questions. She said nothing, assuming Vojorn had already began to question him, and she would learn soon enough who this brute was. illɘgal w/ Riddler, + ebonite + w/ Vojorn, Indi w/ Leifr 370 | JazminHope it's okay to post here! While the water was cold enough to freeze my veins, I found it to be extremely refreshing on this warm, summer afternoon. After several deep swallows, I raised my dark legs to slowly wade in. The river wasn't deep by any means, but it was enough for me to drunk my head and began rubbing some of the sweat and dust off my pelt. I sighed softly as my body temperature slowly lowered and I felt more comfortable in my skin. It was a sweet relief, and now I was ready to continue my search. As I tried to work out where to go next, the sound of twigs snapping made my ears flick back. I turned my silver gaze towards a tall, painted mare who's expression was anything but friendly. I knew I had crossed into a territory, but honestly had no clue where in the Neutral Kingdom I had found myself or who the lead was. Enjoying yourself? State your business here in Dark Woods. Her tone made my body tense, hyper aware that I was at a disadvantage being nearly knee deep in the slow moving water. Before I could try and explain myself, a more dainty mare appeared who was also taller than I was. She said nothing as she stopped beside the sarcastic one, and I eyed them for a moment with a soft sigh. I apologize for intruding. Today has been a particularly warm day, and I needed to rest. I'm not looking for any trouble. This time. I didn't blame the two for being suspicious, especially since neither of them were familiar to me and strangers could be dangerous. That didn't mean that I couldn't take note of how long it took them to find me or watch for potential weaknesses for further use. I slowly and carefully stepped out of the river, specifically choosing the side that the other equines were on. Perhaps that would make me look more friendly - or maybe even stupid. No use looking like I was trying to run away. They were both taller than me, though the painted one looked more likely to be able to chase me down if I chose to try and make a break for it. I forced my body language to soften, my ears relaxing as I glanced between them. My name is Riddler. To be quite honest, I'm looking for a friend and managed to get lost. Leifr. Do you happen to know him? My tones were careful and light, watching their movements in case they - rightfully - attacked me. I could only hope that they knew the stallion or at least could point me in the right direction before I got myself into some real trouble. But honestly? Things have been too boring lately. vojorn Vojorn's eyes never left the intruder, not even when Jazmin came up alongside her to assist. She only noticed the mare out of the corner of her eye. She'd been confident she could take him on by herself, but with Jazmin here as well, she was even more assured of that. She waited for the stallion to respond. He was still knee-deep in the river, at a significant disadvantage if Vojorn decided she didn't like his answer. 'I apologize for intruding. Today has been a particularly warm day, and I needed to rest. I'm not looking for any trouble,' he said, starting off with a soft sigh that made Vojorn even more annoyed. So casual about trespassing. His apology didn't mean much to her. If he was that hot, he could have wandered off to the Freelands to cool down in the many, many beaches and lakes it contained. The river in Dark Woods was not near the border, so he had wandered quite far into her lands to find a place to cool down. Her eyes narrowed as he got out of the water, onto the same side as herself and Jazmin. At least he hadn't tried to put the river between them. Though if he had, he would have been very sorry. She and Jazmin were far from the only herd members in Dark Woods that could fight. 'My name is Riddler. To be quite honest, I'm looking for a friend and managed to get lost. Leifr. Do you happen to know him?' The stallion continued to explain himself. Riddler. And he was looking for Leifr. Vojorn did not betray any recognition at Leifr's name on her face. That was something she'd learned from her mother. Leifr did live here, so it was lucky that it was these lands he'd "wandered" into. She didn't buy it for a second. He had some other ulterior motive here. If he was truly lost, he would have waited at the border for someone to point him in the right direction. Not brazenly wander in and take a bath. "My name is Vojorn and I'm lead of Dark Woods," she decided she might as well introduce herself. And if he recognized her name, that might make this all the better. "So, instead of waiting at the border of the lands for someone to point you in the right direction to find your friend, you decide to trespass and take a bath," she stated, her guard not wavering for a second. "So, either you're rude and not very intelligent or you have other motives for being here other than finding Leifr," she continued, cocking a brow, "which one is it?" Was it possible that he was telling the truth and he was just rude? Of course it was. But after what Vojorn had gone through, she was not willing to take the chance. tag illɘgal fleabittengray anyone else that wants to join in the fun timeline after meeting with avinash notes she's not giving him an inch lol

x JAZMIN Both Vojorn and Jazmin had been through trauma in their life. Neither woman was going to let this stranger get away with barging into their home, bathing in their water source. Jazmin was annoyed, angry even, but her face showed no emotion other than simple curiosity. Who was this man and why was he here? Knee deep in the river, he was at a disadvantage. The water would slow him down if he was trying to run. Upon Jazmin's approach, he released a soft sigh, one that had the slender featured mare wanting to roll her eyes. Instead, she quirked a brow at the hellion as he began his explanation. I apologize for intruding. Today has been a particularly warm day, and I needed to rest. I'm not looking for any trouble. Not looking for trouble, but had snuck this far into their home just to bathe and refresh himself? To Jazmin, that seemed a bit suspicious. Neither woman said anything, both staring down the brute that had intruded upon their home. He began to step out of the water. To his benefit, he came out on the same side of the river that she and Vojorn were standing on, dripping water down onto the grass along the riverbed. Jazmin let her eyes briefly scan over him, but remained silent, waiting for him to possibly continue on with his explanation. My name is Riddler. To be quite honest, I'm looking for a friend and managed to get lost. Leifr. Do you happen to know him? His name was unknown to herself, but he spoke of a boy that lived here. Leifr. Whose sister was currently missing. Decay had been unable to track her down the day she'd gone missing. Would Riddler know anything about that, possibly? One of her ears twitched, but other than that, Jazmin gave no real reaction to his words. "My name is Vojorn and I'm lead of Dark Woods," Vojorn started by introducing herself, and Jazmin followed suite. "I am Jazmin, Regent of Dark Woods." Let him know he had two high ranked individuals here. Maybe that would make sure he kept behaving himself. "So, instead of waiting at the border of the lands for someone to point you in the right direction to find your friend, you decide to trespass and take a bath," A humorless chuckle left the mare, dark brown eyes staring at the stranger - Riddler. The sun was beginning to make her scarred steel gray pelt sweat. "So, either you're rude and not very intelligent or you have other motives for being here other than finding Leifr, which one is it?" Reasonable question, really. Jazmin glanced over at Vojorn, wondering what her plan of action was. She wanted to ask how Riddler knew Leifr, but that might give away that he did in fact live here, so she kept herself quiet still. illɘgal w/ Riddler, + ebonite + w/ Vojorn, Indi w/ Leifr 480 | JazminNotes 7 years 8 months, summer, mid-day?, Leviticus is still missing

I carefully watched both mares' reactions as I stepped onto dry land, silver gaze flicking between the two. The angry one gave nothing away, but I saw the flick of an ear from the other at Leifr's name. Perhaps only she knew him? He never described his sister to me, so was this her? That would be a delightful coincidence if that was the case. My name is Vojorn and I'm lead of Dark Woods. My eyes shifted back to her with curiosity. Dark Woods. Vojorn. Neither of them rang a bell, not that I let it show on my face. I really had gotten myself lost. Should I even be assuming this was the Neutral Kingdom any more? The gray one introduced herself as Jazmin, a name that was also unfamiliar. How interesting that the lead and regent would be patrolling at the same time and in the same area. Was that normal for them? Who covers the rest of their land? So, instead of waiting at the border of the lands for someone to point you in the right direction to find your friend, you decide to trespass and take a bath. A fair point. I almost chuckled along with Jazmin but elected for the amusement to reflect in my gaze instead. Vojorn looked like she was ready to eat me alive, no need to encourage that. So, either you're rude and not very intelligent or you have other motives for being here other than finding Leifr. Which one is it? There may be a war going on, but there was truly no need for insults. We had only just met! It was hilarious to me that at a time when I was being honest, I was being treated as a liar. On one hand, I understood their concerns. On the other, if this was indeed the Neutral kingdom still, weren't they supposed to be... well, neutral? Even during war? Something like that. They were acting more like my alliance rather than one that sounds like it should be peaceful. I wanted to tell Vojorn exactly that, but remembered that only one mare was allowed to spill my blood. These two hadn't earned that right. Instead of instigating a fight that would most likely annoy the shit out of Queen Thomasin, I turned my expression into a sheepish one and gave a small shrug. You hardly know me, Vojorn. Is this how you always your treat guests? I emphasized the word with a lopsided smile, gaze turning to Jazmin before snapping back to the lead. I'd like to think I'm fairly intelligent. Though I assume you have already made up your mind. I am simply looking for my friend. If he isn't here, I'll be out of your hair in no time and you can resume harassing helpless visitors who just need to cool off for a moment. I looked at the gray mare with a tilt of my head. Maybe you know where else I can look for him? It's important.TAG + ebonite + fleabittengray Indi WORDS 500+ TIMELINE Summer, after meeting with Belial Sorry for the wait!

vojorn If this was going to turn into a fight, Vojorn was ready for it. She hadn't been in a proper fight in a long time and the anger possessing every muscle in her body was aching for violence. However, she still had some semblance of self control. Riddler had not made any threats, physical or otherwise, to either of them, so she would remain civil. That didn't mean she would let her guard down, though. She waited for the stallion to answer, wondering if her questions would tear down the mask or if he would truly reveal himself as someone who got lost and didn't think much of crossing borders to take baths. 'You hardly know me, Vojorn. Is this how you always your treat guests?' Riddler said with a sheepish grin and Vojorn merely snorted. Guests didn't trespass to take baths. Guests waited at the border like they were supposed to. He gave up being treated as a guest the moment he crossed the border. 'I'd like to think I'm fairly intelligent. Though I assume you have already made up your mind. I am simply looking for my friend. If he isn't here, I'll be out of your hair in no time and you can resume harassing helpless visitors who just need to cool off for a moment.' Good. She would be glad to tell him to be on his way and then she'd inform Leifr later that a stallion had come looking for him. If it turned out that Leifr did know this stallion and was fine with him visiting, then Vojorn would allow it and tell him to have better manners next time. She would not apologize for defending her lands against an intruder, especially after what she and her family had gone through. 'Maybe you know where else I can look for him? It's important,' Riddler then turned his gaze to Jazmin and Vojorn wondered if the mare had given away that they knew Leifr. Regardless, she kept quiet about that. That was Jazmin's cross to bear now. "Guests don't trespass to take baths. Had you waited politely, you would have gotten a very different response," she stated bluntly, shrugging. Hell, she might have even summoned Leifr to speak to him directly instead of pretending she didn't know him. Vojorn would wait for Jazmin to respond to Riddler and then she'd tell him to be on his way. tag illɘgal fleabittengray anyone else that wants to join in the fun timeline after meeting with avinash notes lol leifr better get here before vojorn and jazmin kick him out

x JAZMIN Jazmin's eyes never left the unknown stallion. Riddler would not be able to make a single move without the steel gray maiden seeing it right away. She was a capable fighter herself, and Vojorn, well... Vojorn was the best fighter she knew. Riddler wouldn't stand a chance against the both of them together. Perhaps he knew that, and that was why he wasn't trying to barge his way past them to go seeking Leifr. Annoyance was apparent on Jazmin's face, in the way her eyes were partially narrowed. She did not trust Riddler, or anyone that came trespassing into Dark Woods, not after all they had been through. She had learned the hard way to be slow to trust, and though it made her somewhat bitter toward the world, she was not unhappy. She was content with her life. And would be all the happier when Riddler was well away from here. You hardly know me, Vojorn. Is this how you always your treat guests? Guest! He trespassed into their home and dared to call himself a guest? Her jaw clenched, ears tilting back in anger. I'd like to think I'm fairly intelligent. Though I assume you have already made up your mind. I am simply looking for my friend. If he isn't here, I'll be out of your hair in no time and you can resume harassing helpless visitors who just need to cool off for a moment. And then Riddler was looking directly at her. Jazmin met his gaze with fiery eyes. Maybe you know where else I can look for him? It's important. She snorted, and felt a sudden urge to tear into him, but resisted because Vojorn was now speaking. "Guests don't trespass to take baths. Had you waited politely, you would have gotten a very different response," A mocking, tight-lipped smile appeared on Jazmin's lips then and she motioned with her muzzle back toward the border. "I wouldn't consider myself a guest if I was trespassing in someone's home. I'd consider myself an enemy." Her statement was blunt and to the point. Right now, Riddler was an enemy. He could be a supporter of the Underworld or the Helkaer or both for all they knew. Relentlessly, a sense of constant guilt gnawed at Leifr. While it was true that it had been his father who had instructed him to go on ahead to the event, he could never blame his father. Especially not when he was certain that Dad felt just as bad, if not worse, about the situation. And the fact that Dad could not be out helping search for Leviticus, but instead needed to keep close to Mom... No, he could never blame Dad. After all, it was not as if they had been left ignorant of the dangers that lurked in the world. Especially the Shire they had been warned about all their lives. True... obviously knowledge was not enough to prevent things from happening. Caelius had already disappeared. Had their adoptive brother's fate been the same to befall Leviticus? Considering he still did not know for certain what had happened to Caelius, but had only suspicions... that was a chilling thought to be certain. And it most assuredly did not stop the young grullo from feeling responsible for his twin's disappearance. If only both the missing members of their family could be returned to them safe and sound, with some benign explanation for being gone.
Alas, worst case scenarios were the ones that tended to play through Leifr's thoughts at all hours.
A long sigh escaped Leifr, wondering why his family seemed so often targeted for tragedy. What Mother had suffered... Aunt Fan... then Caelius had disappeared... and now his twin sister.
Not that he thought they were the only ones in the world to suffer. It had not been that long ago that others who had been missing from Dark Woods had returned, clearly having suffered. Including the leader of Dark Woods. Nor was his family the only ones in Dark Woods to have missing family who had yet to reappear, like Roux, who had yet to find her three missing sons. And when he had been out searching -- never alone these days, what with the aforementioned disappearances in mind -- he had met others who had missing family members. In fact, it seemed a rather disturbingly common thing.
Which definitely did not help him with feeling any sense of hope or optimism...
"Maybe you know where else I can look for him? It's important." A voice that was not immediately familiar, yet tickled at a sense of recognition in his mind broke through Leifr's grim thoughts. A quick scan of his surroundings pinpointed precisely where in Dark Woods his aimless meandering had brought him and it would seem he was not alone. Further confirmed by Vojorn's familiar voice, "Guests don't trespass to take baths. Had you waited politely, you would have gotten a very different response." And then there was Jazmin, adding, "I wouldn't consider myself a guest if I was trespassing in someone's home. I'd consider myself an enemy."
It would seem he had stumbled into the general vicinity of a tense standoff between his leader, regent and... someone else. A stranger to them at least, but... why did that voice seem... And then recognition sank in. It seemed a lifetime ago that he had attended the singles event. So Riddler was looking for him and it was important? Realizing he was not going to get any answers standing here pondering, he broke into a quick trot towards the sound of voices, slowing only when he could see all three on the bank of the river.
Feeling a tad awkward just throwing himself into the middle of the tension, wondering if him appearing would be approved, still he offered a respectful nod to Vojorn and Jazmin, before focusing on the other stallion present. 'Hey Riddler.' He wanted to know what was important, why Riddler had specifically been looking for him... but he could not frame the words. The current tension in the air, the multitude of sleepless nights worrying about his siblings, long days trying to find them or help with Mother... his brain felt like mush, just when he could really have used it being in tip-top shape. This afternoon certainly hadn't gone the way I expected. I didn't think I would be able to simply find Leifr, ask him a few questions, and have all the answers that Charm was looking for, by any means. But I wasn't expecting to irritate a lead and regent of a random land that I had stumbled into. Look, I know the war was making everyone uncomfortable, but where was the hospitality, friendly smiles, and exchange of pleasantries? Honestly, I was surprised that neither mare had tried to attack me yet. Instead, we were all in this awkward standoff and I was debating if it would indeed be possible to outrun Vojorn. As much as I enjoyed annoying and irritating other equines - which it appeared I was doing a good job at today - I really did have to find Leifr. Clearly, these two weren't going to help me. Guests don't trespass to take baths. Had you waited politely, you would have gotten a very different response. Despite the blunt words and casual shrug from the painted mare, I highly doubted that would be true. While I knew as little about her as she did about me, the lead didn't strike me as someone who would be friendly to anyone on her borders. But who knows? It was too late to find out. My gaze shifted to Jazmin as she gestured back the way I came. I wouldn't consider myself a guest if I was trespassing in someone's home. I'd consider myself an enemy. My joking demeanor finally broke and I rolled my eyes towards the heavens. Really? An enemy? As we have all established, we do not know each other. Mistakes happen. That doesn't have to make us enemies. My flinty eyes finally began to harden at the edges. I was looking for my friend. If he isn't here, I would appreciate it if you two would let me leave in peace. My ears flicked back at the sound of hoofbeats and my expression immediately shuttered as I waited to see who else was going to join the fray. I could possibly outrun Jazmin, potentially Vojorn if I was lucky. A third? That would be pushing it. I shifted back a step, then a half-smile pulled at my lips as a familiar graying stallion made his appearance. I fought the sudden urge to offer a taunting smile to Vojorn and opted to watch Leifr greet the two mares and turn his attention toward me. Hey Riddler. Leifr, it is good to see you! My tone lightened significantly with a light touch of sarcasm at the end. I didn't move closer in case either mare decided to finally launch themselves at me, but my gaze was locked on the stallion next to them. I have been looking for you. I was hoping you might be able to help me with a serious situation I recently found out about. I kept my statement vague, though I suspected that Vojorn and Jazmin weren't going to leave me alone with Leifr, even after he acknowledged that I wasn't full of shit. That is, if you are free for a few moments?TAG + ebonite + fleabittengray Indi WORDS 500+ TIMELINE Summer, after meeting with Belial Sooooo sorry for the wait!!!
