The ruby knight had started to become restless the longer the war dragged on. He was constantly patrolling the edges of his island, even though there was only one way in and out. Though everything had been silent so far, he had continued to feel restless. No matter how much information he dug up or how many equines he managed to meet, the beast never felt like it was enough. There had to be something more. His land was ready to accept the injured, weak, or those who needed training, but no one had come yet. That was a good sign in general, but left the knight wanting to offer more for his kingdom. That was what made him rise with the sun to make his way across the land bridge back to the mainland. As he did so, Kladdan's guard came up in full force. During a time where the Afterlife can be anywhere, no where was truly safe. His whole body was on alert as he began the trek towards Trembling Shadows. He had yet to meet Azriel, but perhaps it was time for them to get to know each other. Maybe the Friesian would want to help Kladdan and Galdr with their plans for the isle. Or maybe the stallion had some intel he could share. In any case, it was better than sitting around and wondering if the war was going to bleed into his home. He paused near the border to take in the view and to see if any patrols came his way. Sure, this was another dark territory, but Kladdan preferred to be polite rather than barging in. The fields provided him with a clear view of the land, but only saw a few shadowed equines in the distance. The beast sighed to himself, slowly crossing the boundary while keeping his body language neutral. There was a chance that Azriel might know him, but there was also a chance that they would get off on the wrong foot. The bay decided to take the gamble regardless. He paused at a stream, taking a moment to let out a long call for any of the herd members to hear. Though he didn't know who might live here and didn't quite see anyone around him, it was better than being caught deep into another's territory. No need to caught trouble within his own kingdom. Seeing Brina and Melyra, along with the rest of the family, had been a relief of the sort no words could begin to describe. Telrunya had been hesitant at first with the idea of revealing herself to her family. Given that she could no longer dwell among the living, seeing as she was not of the living... she had worried about the impact that might have on those she loved. After all, she remembered struggling after the death of My Only Chance... and while it had been nice to see him again when later he had visited in angelic form, there had been... aspects with which she had continued to struggle a bit with afterwards. Then again, perhaps that had more to do with the precise manner and reason he had no longer been among the living, rather than that he had visited after he became a part of the Afterlife. Or perhaps it had to do with the fact that, at least back in those days, the Afterlife had not had nearly the kind of presence in the realm of mortals that it had now. Which, as it turned out, was both blessing and curse.
On the one hand, she could easily visit her living kin, albeit with the caveat of not being able to ever linger too long on the mortal plane without consequence.
On the other hand, a war between two Afterlife factions had inevitably spilled into the realm of mortals, endangering all those she loved who still lived.
Despite no longer requiring oxygen, a heavy sigh escaped the Vanner soul. Practically the entirety of her life had been dedicated to protecting her family. Even as a yearling, she had protected and mothered her younger sister. She had given her life protecting the beautiful daughter she and Jared had brought into the world. Not being able to stay with them and ensure her family's protection at all times now, when war raged... it was beyond difficult.
A long call from far closer than Telrunya would have anticipated nearly sent her straight back to Asphodel. Caught up in her own thoughts since leaving her family in the Free Lands, she had been merely drifting, with no attention whatsoever paid to her surroundings. A foolish mistake, no doubt, given the state of war. Yet unsurprising, given the pull of myriad thoughts troubling her. Halting forward momentum, she eyed her surroundings and the crimson stranger both, trying to decipher where it was she had ended up, along with whether this fellow might be friend or foe.
